Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy Walkthrough: Case Order, Evidence, and Missable Achievements

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy is a story-first courtroom adventure, but a clean completion run is not just about picking the right evidence. The trilogy has 14 episodes across three games, a handful of one-time joke achievements, a trilogy-spanning ladder/step-ladder achievement, and several choices that are worth saving before you touch them.

This walkthrough is built as a practical route planner for a first or replay completion run. It keeps the main story readable, flags the missable achievements before they pass, and explains when to make backup saves. It does not reproduce every line of every testimony. For most players, that is the sweet spot: enough help to avoid dead ends and missed achievements, without turning every cross-examination into a script.

The trilogy is generous with story progression, but not every achievement is generous. Save before odd choices, special testimony, and late-game branching decisions.

Best Route at a Glance

If you want one efficient playthrough, use this order:

  1. Play the cases in release order: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, then Justice For All, then Trials and Tribulations.
  2. Before every investigation day, talk about every available topic, examine new rooms, and present your Attorney’s Badge or relevant profiles when an achievement calls for it.
  3. Before every trial day, make a manual save at the start.
  4. During testimony, press statements freely unless the guide notes a choice that can advance past a missable.
  5. Keep a separate save before Angel Starr’s testimony in Rise from the Ashes, the bad-ending choice in Farewell, My Turnabout, and Jean Armstrong’s achievement chain in Recipe for Turnabout.
  6. Do the ladder/step-ladder checks as soon as each location becomes available.
  7. After finishing all 14 episodes, return only if you missed an achievement. The game tracks many achievements across replay, but separate saves make cleanup much less tedious.

How Ace Attorney Progression Works

Each case alternates between investigations and trials. Investigations are usually about unlocking locations and collecting Court Record entries. Trials are about finding contradictions between testimony and evidence.

Mode What To Do Common Mistake
Investigation Talk to everyone, examine the room, present key evidence/profiles, and move once new locations open. Leaving after one topic. New topics often appear after presenting evidence.
Trial Press suspicious statements, then present evidence where a statement conflicts with the Court Record. Presenting too early. Pressing often adds the statement you need.
Psyche-Lock Save first, then present the evidence chain in order. Guessing through locks. Wrong answers cost health and can complicate achievement routes.
Forensics Follow the tool prompt carefully: spray, examine, rotate, dust, or point at the relevant part. Rushing the cursor step. Several puzzles require pointing at a specific detail.
Achievement cleanup Use manual saves before missable choices. Depending on autosave after the case has already advanced.

Full Case Order

The Steam release contains all 14 episodes from the first three games. The table below gives the completion order and the main achievement risk for each case.

Game Episode Case Watch For
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney 1 The First Turnabout Answer with Mia Fey when asked who the defendant is, then continue correctly.
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney 2 Turnabout Sisters No major missable achievement from the verified checklist; use it to learn investigations.
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney 3 Turnabout Samurai Ladder/step-ladder check in Studio One.
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney 4 Turnabout Goodbyes Borrow all three of Gumshoe’s secret weapons; leave the Metal Detector until last.
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney 5 Rise from the Ashes Lunchbox Specialist, ladder/step-ladder check, and forensic pointing puzzles.
Justice For All 1 The Lost Turnabout Press Gumshoe’s marriage-related statement for Mind Your Own Business, Pal!
Justice For All 2 Reunion, and Turnabout Guess Lotta’s name as Lotta Hair when prompted.
Justice For All 3 Turnabout Big Top Present Max’s profile to Maya, and examine the Big Top ladder/step-ladder.
Justice For All 4 Farewell, My Turnabout Press Oldbag’s Nickel Samurai statement and save before the bad-ending branch.
Trials and Tribulations 1 Turnabout Memories Press Dahlia’s statement about Feenie being pushed twice.
Trials and Tribulations 2 The Stolen Turnabout Basement Warehouse ladder/step-ladder and Oldbag-related object checks.
Trials and Tribulations 3 Recipe for Turnabout Violetta’s donut and Jean’s Foreign Language Course are both easy to miss.
Trials and Tribulations 4 Turnabout Beginnings No extra missable from the verified checklist beyond clearing the case.
Trials and Tribulations 5 Bridge to the Turnabout I Hate Childhood Friends, final ladder/step-ladder, and trilogy completion.

Trials are built around testimony pressure. If a contradiction is not obvious, press first; many key statements appear only after pressure.

Universal Trial Rules

These rules solve most non-achievement problems without giving away every answer:

  • Read the Court Record after every update. Autopsy reports, photos, profiles, and maps often change quietly.
  • Press before presenting. Many testimonies add or alter a statement after pressure.
  • Profiles matter. Later cases often ask for a person, not a physical item.
  • Pay attention to time, position, and handedness. Ace Attorney contradictions often come from when someone could act, where they stood, or which hand/side a detail appears on.
  • When asked to point, inspect the image first. You may need to point at a specific area of a photo, map, body, or object rather than present a whole item.
  • Save before deliberate wrong answers. Several achievements require intentionally wrong choices, but some wrong choices simply damage your health.
  • Do not rush past optional investigation checks. The funniest conversations are optional, but so are several achievement triggers.

Missable Achievement Checklist

Use this as your main completion checklist. It focuses on achievements that can be missed during a normal story run.

Achievement Case Trigger Save Advice
Please Turn In Your Badge PW:AA Episode 1 When asked who the defendant is, answer Mia Fey before giving the real answer. Save at trial start if you want a clean redo.
Secret Weapons Three PW:AA Episode 4 Borrow Gumshoe’s Fishing Rod, Missile, and Metal Detector. Pick the Metal Detector last, because it advances the investigation.
Lunchbox Specialist PW:AA Episode 5 See every Angel Starr lunchbox, including the optional wrong-choice lunches. Make a backup before Day 2 Trial Former testimony.
Ladders Vs. Step-Ladders Across all three games Trigger every ladder/step-ladder conversation listed below. Check each location as soon as you can access it.
Mind Your Own Business, Pal! JFA Episode 1 Press Gumshoe on the statement about Dustin and Maggey talking about marriage. Save at the start of the tutorial trial.
Um, Lotta Hair, Was It? JFA Episode 2 Choose Lotta Hair when guessing Lotta’s name. Save before meeting Lotta if you are replaying quickly.
Naruhodo A. Wrighto JFA Episode 3 Present Max’s profile to Maya at Wright & Co. Law Offices during Part 1 Investigation. Do it before the investigation moves on.
Judge Wackner JFA Episode 4 Press Oldbag’s claim that she saw the Nickel Samurai. Save at the start of Part 2-1 Trial.
Justice Ill Served JFA Episode 4 Get the bad ending by presenting the wrong item/person at the final branch. Save when the judge says not to waste more time; then reload for the correct ending.
Beware, Your Honor! T&T Episode 1 Press Dahlia’s statement about Feenie being pushed twice. Save before the second Dahlia testimony if needed.
Smells Like Oldbag T&T Episode 2 Inspect the DeMasque Hideout fishbowl and the Oldbag-related objects in the KB Security room. If it does not pop, examine everything else in the security office before moving on.
Violetta’s Home-Made Donuts T&T Episode 3 During Viola’s Psyche-Lock, answer the first question incorrectly. Save before breaking the Psyche-Lock.
Jean’s Foreign Language Course T&T Episode 3 Exhaust Armstrong’s special dialogue across investigation and trial sections. Use multiple saves; this is the easiest achievement to miss.
I Hate Childhood Friends T&T Episode 5 As Edgeworth, present the Attorney’s Badge to Larry at Main Gate, then examine the flags at Heavenly Hall. Do both during Part 1-2 Investigation.

Ladders Vs. Step-Ladders Locations

This achievement spans the entire trilogy, so it is easy to lose track. Trigger the conversation at each of these five locations:

Game Case Location Note
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Turnabout Samurai Inside Studio One Available during the first investigation for the case.
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Rise from the Ashes Underground Parking Lot Check during Day 1 Investigation.
Justice For All Turnabout Big Top Big Top Available during Part 1 Investigation.
Trials and Tribulations The Stolen Turnabout Basement Warehouse Check during Episode 2 investigation.
Trials and Tribulations Bridge to the Turnabout Courtyard Use Gumshoe’s metal detector during Part 3-2 Investigation, then examine the ladder/step-ladder.

Rise from the Ashes adds forensics. Slow down on evidence screens; several answers require pointing at a precise detail.

Lunchbox Specialist Route

Lunchbox Specialist is the biggest first-game missable. Most lunches appear through normal progression, but several require optional actions or wrong choices. Use a backup save before Angel Starr’s Day 2 trial testimony so you can recover if you choose the story-progressing option too early.

Phase Required Action Why It Matters
Day 1 Investigation Present the Attorney’s Badge to Angel before heading to the Prosecutor’s Office. Gets the missable Lunchland’s Pickle Supreme branch.
Day 2 Trial Former When asked whether to object or say no problem, choose No Problem first. Shows the First Love lunchbox before the case proceeds.
Day 2 Trial Former During the relevant Angel testimony branch, choose What she saw, then later The order of events before the correct answer. These wrong choices reveal P’tooey and Orange-Peel, but they penalize you.
Day 2 Trial Former After those wrong choices, continue with the correct route and press through the later decisive evidence section. Several later lunches are tied to normal progression and pressing.
Day 2 and Day 3 Investigations Return to the Underground Parking Lot and talk to Angel when she becomes available. The achievement should complete after the final parking lot conversation if all earlier lunches were seen.

Justice For All Cleanup

Justice For All has fewer fiddly collectibles than Rise from the Ashes, but Episode 4 has a unique achievement trap. To get Justice Ill Served, you must intentionally see the bad ending in Farewell, My Turnabout.

When the judge says not to waste more time during Part 4-2 Trial, make a manual save. The correct ending route uses Shelly de Killer’s profile and the Video Tape at the final branch. For the achievement, present something else to trigger the bad ending, then reload your save and finish the case correctly.

Do not combine this with a no-save roleplay run unless you are comfortable replaying a long finale. The bad-ending branch is exactly the kind of moment manual saves are for.

Trials and Tribulations Cleanup

Trials and Tribulations has the trilogy’s most fragile achievement chain: Jean’s Foreign Language Course in Recipe for Turnabout. Treat that case as a save-management case.

  1. In Part 1 Investigation, save before Armstrong’s Psyche-Locks.
  2. Ask about Maggey’s motive again when it becomes locked.
  3. Present evidence and profiles to Armstrong broadly before progressing.
  4. During the Psyche-Lock, deliberately choose wrong answers when the achievement route calls for it, then continue with the correct evidence.
  5. In Part 3 Investigation, save when Armstrong appears in the Kitchen and present evidence/profiles again before he becomes unavailable.
  6. In Part 4-1 Trial, press every statement in Armstrong’s relevant testimony sections.
  7. When the “How many minutes after?” option appears, choose it before any option that advances the testimony.

Violetta’s Home-Made Donuts is much simpler: when breaking Viola’s Psyche-Locks, save first and intentionally answer the first question incorrectly. Then reload or continue through the correct chain depending on your health.

In Bridge to the Turnabout, do not forget the two-part I Hate Childhood Friends trigger: present the Attorney’s Badge to Larry at Main Gate, then examine the flags at Heavenly Hall during the same investigation part. Later in the case, use the metal detector in the Courtyard and inspect the final ladder/step-ladder conversation.

Investigation achievements often depend on optional presents and room examinations. If a character is about to leave the story, check them before moving on.

Evidence Strategy by Case Type

Every Ace Attorney case has its own gimmick, but most contradictions fall into predictable categories.

Contradiction Type Look For Examples of Useful Evidence
Time contradiction A witness says something happened before or after the Court Record allows. Autopsy report, blackout report, weather data, photo timestamp.
Location contradiction The witness claims to see, hear, or move through a place that does not match the map. Maps, sketches, room photos, bridge or hallway evidence.
Identity contradiction The person in the statement cannot be the person the witness claims. Profiles, clothing, photos, notes, disguise-related evidence.
Physical contradiction The object, wound, hand, side, or position does not match testimony. Crime photo, weapon, autopsy report, fingerprint, blood or cloth evidence.
Motive contradiction The stated reason for an action ignores money, blackmail, revenge, or a hidden relationship. Letters, profiles, newspaper clippings, blackmail documents.

Save Plan for a Clean 100%

Use rotating manual saves. You do not need dozens, but three active slots make the trilogy much safer.

Save Slot Use It For Overwrite?
Slot 1 Start of current investigation or trial day. Overwrite at the next day break.
Slot 2 Before an achievement choice or Psyche-Lock. Keep until the achievement pops.
Slot 3 Before long finale branches, especially JFA Episode 4 and T&T Episode 5. Keep until the case is complete.

What This Guide Does Not Claim

Several supplied references were blocked or too thin to use, including most TrueAchievements pages and the StrategyWiki page. They were captured and reported, but they are not treated as verified evidence. The route above relies on readable RPG Site, GameFAQs listing, Steam Community achievement/progression references, and official Steam metadata.

This is also not a full line-by-line spoiler script. The trilogy is at its best when you still read testimony, consider the Court Record, and enjoy optional dialogue. Use the tables here to avoid missing achievements, then only look up exact testimony answers when you are truly stuck.

If you see a ladder or step-ladder, check it. This is not just a joke; one achievement tracks the running argument across the trilogy.
