Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy Walkthrough and Achievement Guide

Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy looks like a single collection, but a clean run is really three different Ace Attorney skill sets stitched together. Apollo Justice asks you to examine evidence in 3D and catch witness tells with Perceive. Dual Destinies adds Athena’s Mood Matrix, Revisualization, and a much heavier achievement cleanup route. Spirit of Justice layers in Divination Seances and several easy-to-miss optional checks.

This guide is built as a practical walkthrough and achievement route for the whole collection. It gives the safest episode order, the mechanics you should understand before they cost health, the missable accolades to check before you advance, and the cleanup points that matter if you want all 32 Steam achievements without replaying huge chunks blindly. It is spoiler-light rather than spoiler-free: case names, mechanics, locations, and achievement triggers are included, but the article avoids retelling culprit reveals or reproducing full testimony scripts.

Use this guide like a route map. The story is the fun part; the value is knowing when to save, when to examine optional objects, and when a one-line choice can unlock or miss an accolade.

Best Route At A Glance

For a first completion run, play in the menu order unless you already know you want a chronological Dual Destinies Special Episode route. The collection contains 16 episodes total: the 14 main episodes from Apollo Justice, Dual Destinies, and Spirit of Justice, plus the two formerly DLC-only Special Episodes.

  1. Turn off automatic story or reader-style assistance if you care about achievements. Community achievement routes consistently warn that these modes can disable many accolades. Manual play is safer.
  2. Make a manual save at the start of every investigation and trial segment. Chapter select helps, but a close save is still faster for one-off choices.
  3. Talk, examine, and present before leaving a room. New topics often appear after you present the right evidence or profile.
  4. Inspect evidence in 3D. Apollo Justice in particular hides progress on rotatable evidence, not only in dialogue choices.
  5. Check the Accolades menu for multi-step progress. Mr. Charley, Ladders and Stepladders, Forensics Expert, Trucy’s Woes, and A Man of Many Hats all benefit from progress tracking.
  6. Do bad-ending or wrong-answer achievements first, then reload. That is safest for One Jurist’s Verdict, The Problem with Love, and Betty’s Life Choices.
  7. Use chapter select for cleanup. Most missed optional achievements can be recovered from the relevant episode part, but a full replay is much slower.

Full Episode Order

The table below is the clean play order and the main thing each episode asks you to protect. “Story clear” achievements unlock from beginning-of-episode play, so avoid jumping into a late chapter if you are trying to earn that episode’s completion accolade.

Spirit of Justice Special Turnabout Time Traveler Final Mr. Charley check and final ladder/step-ladder check.

Core Trial Habits

The trilogy rarely punishes patient players. The bad guesses usually come from acting too early. Before you present evidence, press the statement if the game allows it, re-check the Court Record description, and inspect any 3D evidence that might rotate or open. If a statement is amended after pressing, the new line is often the real contradiction.

Situation Safe Habit Why It Helps
Normal testimony Press suspicious or vague statements before presenting evidence. Pressed testimony often adds a new line or reveals which evidence category matters.
3D evidence Rotate, zoom, and examine every visible side. Several Apollo Justice deductions require a hidden surface, mark, or compartment.
Psyche-Locks Save first and back out if you do not have the right evidence. Wrong answers cost health, and some lock chains are long enough to punish guessing.
Choice prompts If the answer sounds like a joke or a bad ending, save before choosing it. Several achievements ask for the wrong answer once, then expect you to reload or continue correctly.
Investigation rooms Talk about all topics, examine the room, then present new evidence or profiles. Ace Attorney progress is often gated by a present action after normal conversation is exhausted.

Perceive is less about speed than attention. Wait for the exact phrase, watch the highlighted tell, then confirm only when the motion and statement line up.

How The Special Mechanics Work

Perceive: Apollo’s bracelet signals that a witness has a physical tell. Read the testimony slowly, watch the marked body part, and confirm the tell on the statement where the animation and wording clash. If you are stuck, repeat the testimony at normal speed first, then slow down on the suspicious statement.

Mood Matrix: Athena’s tool compares a witness’s emotions against what they are saying. Do not guess based on the loudest icon. Ask which emotion is impossible for the event being described, then pinpoint that emotion on the exact statement. After the Noise Level drops, read the revised testimony as if it were a normal cross-examination.

Revisualization: These segments are logic summaries. Treat them as a recap of facts already proven, not as a place to invent a new theory. When a joke answer is tied to an achievement, choose it first if the guide flags it, then continue with the serious answer.

Divination Seance: Spirit of Justice asks you to compare Rayfa’s written insight with the victim’s final sensations. Work in three passes: line up the statement number, check the sensory category, then watch the timing. If an insight changes after your objection, re-check the whole vision; the new contradiction may be in a different sense or a different moment.

Forensic tests: The Forensics Expert accolade spans the whole collection. Fingerprints, footprints, luminol, poison testing, and x-ray analysis are mostly tied to required progress, but you should still finish each tutorial carefully and avoid skipping investigation scenes with story assistance.

Mood Matrix contradictions are emotional contradictions. First understand the witness’s claim, then ask which displayed feeling does not belong there.

Save Before These Moments

Most mistakes are recoverable, but these moments are worth a separate save. They either unlock a missable accolade, branch the ending, or move past a character who will not be available later.

Episode Save Before Safe Action
Turnabout Succession The final jurist verdict choice. Choose “Guilty” first for One Jurist’s Verdict, reload, then choose the good-ending route.
The Cosmic Turnabout Fulbright’s Psyche-Lock question about motive. Answer “Love” first for The Problem with Love, then proceed with the correct answer after the achievement registers.
The Magical Turnabout Before returning Trucy’s Notebook. Present the notebook to Athena first for Foot, Meet Mouth.
The Magical Turnabout The late Revisualization choice. Pick “Her life choices” for Betty’s Life Choices, then continue through the actual deduction.
The Rite of Turnabout Before leaving the Rebel Hideout. Examine Dhurke’s written order twice for A Rebellious Recipe.
Turnabout Reclaimed Before Apollo stops being available at the agency. Present both the whistle and the fish to Apollo for A Man of Many Hats progress.
Turnabout Reclaimed DePlume’s first trial testimony. Press the opening statement about going to the aquarium for Birds on the Brain.

Apollo Justice Route Notes

Turnabout Trump is a courtroom tutorial with no investigation day. Use it to relearn the press-present rhythm and to see the first Perceive prompt. The most important habit is inspecting the Court Record when new evidence appears. The collection’s remaster makes evidence easier to view, but the logic still expects you to notice tiny physical details.

Turnabout Corner is where the game opens up. As soon as you can move around the agency, examine Charley the office plant for the first Mr. Charley step. Later in the case, examine the ladder in the Meraktis Clinic garage for the first Ladders and Stepladders step. The case also starts Forensics Expert progress with fingerprint and footprint work. If Ema introduces a forensic tool, finish the tutorial instead of rushing to the next dialogue topic.

Turnabout Serenade is built around timing, video review, and repeated location checks. Two ladder/step-ladder checks are tied to concert locations: Lamiroir’s dressing room and the stage. Trucy’s Woes also finishes here if you catch both pieces: the early dialogue about Gavinners merchandise and the Day 2 investigation check involving the speaker above the dressing room door. Luminol progress for Forensics Expert occurs during this case as well.

Turnabout Succession is the Apollo Justice finale and the only place where you must deliberately choose the bad route for an achievement. During the early present-day investigation, examine Charley again. Later, when the MASON System opens past locations, go to the old Wright & Co. Law Offices and examine Charley there too. Near the finale, save before the jurist choice. Choose “Guilty” for One Jurist’s Verdict, let the short bad ending register, reload, and then finish with the good-ending choice. Poison testing and x-ray analysis also bring Forensics Expert progress to five of eight if you have been following the route.

Dual Destinies Route Notes

Turnabout Countdown introduces the new presentation style and Athena. The case is mostly a controlled trial route, but it sets up Mood Matrix logic: an emotion can contradict a statement just as strongly as physical evidence does. Read the revised testimony after each Mood Matrix success; do not assume the same line remains the key.

The Monstrous Turnabout is chronologically earlier than Countdown and reintroduces Apollo’s Perceive. The important cleanup point is Ladders and Stepladders step 4. In the Fox Chamber, wait until the Day 2 investigation point after Fulbright leaves the scene, then examine the air vent/ladder item. Earlier mentions and tutorial dialogue are not reliable substitutes for the accolade step.

Turnabout Academy has the School Days achievement. During the investigation, present Themis Herald material to Phoenix once the relevant evidence is available. Community routes note that Themis Herald or Themis Herald Extra can work, but the safest habit is to present the school newspaper material to Phoenix as soon as the crime-scene investigation allows it.

The Cosmic Turnabout contains The Problem with Love. During Detective Fulbright’s Psyche-Lock, pick “Love” when the motive question appears. That is the achievement answer, not the correct progress answer, so save first or be ready to recover. The case also continues the larger story directly into the finale, so do not treat Episode 4 as a standalone side case.

Turnabout for Tomorrow starts A Man of Many Hats. At the Wright Anything Agency, talk to Trucy about “What to do?” as early as possible. This step is easy to overlook because it is conversational rather than puzzle-driven.

Turnabout Reclaimed is the Dual Destinies Special Episode. Release-order players can do it after the main game; chronology-minded players may prefer it after The Monstrous Turnabout. For achievements, the key is availability. Present the whistle and the fish to Apollo at the Wright Anything Agency before the case passes the point where he leaves your reach. During DePlume’s first trial testimony, press the opening statement about going to Shipshape Aquarium for Birds on the Brain. The pool luminol test gives the sixth Forensics Expert step.

Dual Destinies is generous with hints, but the optional accolade route is not automatic. Treat each new investigation day as a checklist before you advance.

Spirit Of Justice Route Notes

The Foreign Turnabout is your Divination Seance tutorial. The best way to solve these is to separate the written insight from the vision itself. If the insight mentions a sound, do not stare only at the image. If it mentions pain or touch, scrub the timing of the final moments carefully. The game often wants you to object to a sensory mismatch, not to present a traditional Court Record item first.

The Magical Turnabout has several of the collection’s easiest misses. Examine Charley at the agency for Mr. Charley step 6. After finding Trucy’s Notebook, present it to Athena before returning it to Trucy for Foot, Meet Mouth. During the later Revisualization, pick “Her life choices” for Betty’s Life Choices before finishing the real deduction. The case also contains a fingerprint step for Forensics Expert.

The Rite of Turnabout has two cleanup points that are easy to confuse. For Ladders and Stepladders step 5, talk with Maya about the extra ladder/step-ladder topic in the detention center sequence. For A Rebellious Recipe, wait until you are actually in the Rebel Hideout and examine Dhurke’s written order twice. Do not confuse that hideout with the place where you first talk to Datz. The Rebel Hideout luminol work can complete Forensics Expert if you already collected the earlier seven steps.

Turnabout Storyteller is a short trial-focused episode. It is more about careful testimony than long investigation cleanup, so use it as a breather. Press thoroughly, watch testimony amendments, and keep your next manual save ready before the final Spirit of Justice stretch.

Turnabout Revolution is long and has multiple cleanup points split between characters and countries. At the Wright Anything Agency, examine Charley when the episode gives control for Mr. Charley step 7. In Dr. Buff’s study, examine the golden airplane rather than only treating the room as a normal crime scene; that is Ladders and Stepladders step 6. Talk with Sarge in the study for the final A Man of Many Hats step. Later, while playing as Apollo in Khura’in, inspect the overturned urn at the Royal Residence for Always on the Defensive. If you missed earlier forensic opportunities, this episode can also provide backup fingerprint or luminol progress, but do not rely on backup if you are doing a tidy route.

Turnabout Time Traveler is the Spirit of Justice Special Episode and the final cleanup stop. Examine Charley at the Wright Anything Agency for Mr. Charley step 8. The final Ladders and Stepladders step is tied to the broken lantern in the Reception Hall sequence. Once those trigger, most remaining work should be normal case completion.

Achievement Cleanup Checklist

Steam’s public achievement page lists 32 achievements for the collection. Many are episode completion or all-accolade rewards, but the checklist below covers the ones most likely to be missed during normal play.

Achievement Where What To Do Risk
Opening Objection! Early first trial Present evidence during your first cross-examination. Very low; should happen naturally.
Stylish Threads Dual Destinies or Spirit of Justice Use one available costume, then enter gameplay. Low; easy menu cleanup.
Trucy’s Woes Apollo Justice Episode 3 Hear the merch/allowance dialogue chain, including the speaker check in Lamiroir’s dressing room on Day 2. Medium; tied to optional examining.
One Jurist’s Verdict Apollo Justice Episode 4 Choose “Guilty” at the final jurist decision, then reload and finish properly. High; save before choosing.
School Days Dual Destinies Episode 3 Present Themis Herald or Themis Herald Extra to Phoenix during the academy investigation. Medium; present it as soon as possible.
The Problem with Love Dual Destinies Episode 4 Answer “Love” during Fulbright’s Psyche-Lock before giving the correct answer. High; deliberate wrong answer.
Birds on the Brain Dual Destinies Special Episode Press DePlume’s first statement about going to Shipshape Aquarium. Medium; tied to one testimony.
Foot, Meet Mouth Spirit of Justice Episode 2 Present Trucy’s Notebook to Athena before returning it to Trucy. High; do it before the story advances.
Betty’s Life Choices Spirit of Justice Episode 2 Choose “Her life choices” during the relevant Revisualization question. Medium; harmless wrong answer but easy to miss.
A Rebellious Recipe Spirit of Justice Episode 3 In the Rebel Hideout, examine Dhurke’s written order twice. Medium; location confusion is the usual problem.
Always on the Defensive Spirit of Justice Episode 5 As Apollo, examine the overturned urn at the Royal Residence after the route opens. Medium; make the check before leaving Khura’in investigation beats.

Cross-Game Multi-Step Achievements

These are the achievements that make a single clean checklist worthwhile. If one of them does not unlock, use Accolades progress and chapter select to identify the missing step rather than replaying the whole trilogy.

Achievement Count Clean Route Summary
Mr. Charley 8 checks Examine the agency houseplant across Apollo Justice Episodes 2, 3, and 4, Spirit of Justice Episodes 2 and 5, and Turnabout Time Traveler. Remember that the MASON System past office has its own Charley check.
Ladders and Stepladders 7 checks Meraktis Clinic garage, Lamiroir’s dressing room, the stage, Fox Chamber Day 2 after Fulbright leaves, Maya’s extra topic in Spirit of Justice Episode 3, the golden airplane in Dr. Buff’s study, and the broken lantern in Turnabout Time Traveler.
Forensics Expert 8 techniques Follow every fingerprint, footprint, luminol, poison, and x-ray sequence. The clean route reaches five in Apollo Justice, adds Turnabout Reclaimed luminol, and finishes with Spirit of Justice fingerprint/luminol opportunities.
A Man of Many Hats 4 parts Talk to Trucy about “What to do?” in Turnabout for Tomorrow, present the whistle and fish to Apollo in Turnabout Reclaimed, then talk with Sarge in Dr. Buff’s study during Turnabout Revolution.

What To Do If You Are Stuck

If a trial stops moving, do not shotgun the Court Record. Work through this order instead:

  1. Press every statement once, then re-read any new or changed statement.
  2. Check whether the contradiction is in a profile, not only in evidence.
  3. Open every 3D evidence item and inspect all sides.
  4. If Perceive is active, repeat the statement at normal speed and watch for a repeated physical habit.
  5. If Mood Matrix is active, match emotion to claim, not emotion to character personality.
  6. If Divination Seance is active, compare statement, sense, and timing separately.
  7. If the game seems to require a present action during investigation, present new evidence to the most relevant character before leaving.

If an achievement did not unlock, first confirm whether you started the episode from its opening chapter. Then check Accolades progress. Many optional achievements can be recovered with chapter select, but story-clear achievements and multi-part chains are easier when you play from the intended starting point.

The trilogy rewards methodical play. Save often, examine optional set dressing, and let the story breathe instead of turning every testimony into a brute-force evidence dump.

Final Cleanup Plan

After all 16 episodes are finished, open the Accolades list and sort the missing items into three groups. Story clears are fixed by replaying from the beginning of the episode. One-off missables are fixed from the nearest chapter select point. Multi-step achievements need the exact missing count, so do not replay randomly. Mr. Charley and Ladders are usually missing one optional examine; A Man of Many Hats is usually missing the whistle, fish, or Sarge conversation; Forensics Expert is usually missing a skipped or backup forensic test.

If you only want the story, ignore most of this and play naturally. If you want a clean 100% route, the whole trick is to make each episode do two jobs: solve the case and leave no optional accolade behind.
