Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1&2 Remastered is really two different completion jobs in one package. The first game is an exploration-heavy hunt for powers, glyphs, health pieces, warp gates, and boss-specific achievements. The second game is more linear, but it has several timed, weapon, and one-chance achievement checks that are easy to forget while you are following the story.
This guide is written as a practical completion roadmap rather than a transcript of every hallway. Use it to plan saves, avoid the big missables, clean up the important collectibles, and know when a puzzle or boss is asking for a specific power.
Spoiler warning: the guide names bosses, areas, powers, late-game puzzles, achievement triggers, and the order of both games. If you want the story completely blind, read only the first checklist, then return when you are ready to route achievements.

Best 100 Percent Plan
- Do not use cheats on an achievement save. Community testing notes and achievement guides warn that cheats can disable achievements, and Soul Reaver 2 achievement guidance also says to avoid cheats if you want unlocks.
- Make manual saves before long platforming routes and every boss. Soul Reaver 1 has no friendly autosave habit. Save from the pause menu whenever the option is available, especially before Drowned Abbey, Dumah, Oracle Cave, and the final Kain route.
- In Soul Reaver 1, collect powers first, then clean up. The best cleanup point is after Rahab gives you swimming and again after Dumah gives you Constrict. Most optional glyphs, health pieces, and glyph-energy upgrades become much easier once those powers are available.
- In Soul Reaver 2, keep a separate save before the late Swamp / time-device push. That lets you backtrack for Sarafan Stronghold achievements without overwriting your route toward Janos Audron.
- For Soul Reaver 2’s six-hour achievement, do a second fast run if needed. You can earn many missables on a careful first playthrough, then use your knowledge of the forges to clear SR2 | Vampire Champion later.
- Track achievement popups as you go. Steam lists 83 achievements total. Many are story-related, but the low-completion ones are usually timed puzzles, weapon finishers, boss tricks, or collectible cleanup.
Soul Reaver 1 Roadmap
The first game loops around Nosgoth. You are usually looking for one of three things: the next clan territory, a new movement power, or an optional glyph route that just became possible. If you get stuck, shift realms first; if the geometry still does not solve itself, you probably need to return after a boss power.
| Route Stage | Main Goal | Important Checks |
|---|---|---|
| Underworld to Raziel’s clan territory | Reach the Necropolis and defeat Melchiah. | Learn manual saving, activate warp gates, and note blocked gates and scalable walls for later. |
| Melchiah aftermath | Use the spectral pass-through-bars ability to return toward the Pillars. | Optional early cleanup: Force Glyph route and the first reachable health pieces. |
| Pillars and first Kain fight | Defeat Kain and receive the Wraith Blade / Soul Reaver. | Return to Ariel when the route allows; her hints matter for SR1 | Ariel Remembers. |
| Silenced Cathedral | Solve the bellows, pipe, valve, mural, and bell sequence to reach Zephon. | Save before the bell tower route if you are protecting SR1 | Don’t Get Your Feet Wet. |
| After Zephon | Use wall climbing to reach the Tomb of the Sarafan. | Zephon gives wall climbing, which opens several optional health and glyph-energy paths. |
| Tomb of the Sarafan | Defeat the Tomb Guardian / Morlock and gain Force Projectile. | Force Projectile is the key to breakable windows, distant blocks, and several combat achievements. |
| Drowned Abbey | Reach Rahab and gain swimming. | This is the major point for water routes, the Fire Reaver, Water Glyph, Sunlight Glyph, and broad cleanup. |
| Ash Village and Dumah | Reach Dumah, lure him to the furnace, and gain Constrict. | Constrict unlocks late bonus rooms and final optional upgrades. Save before waking Dumah. |
| Oracle Cave and Chronoplast | Solve the Constrict-heavy clock and lens puzzles, then defeat Kain again. | Do final cleanup before committing if you want all glyphs, max health, max glyph energy, and warp gates. |
Soul Reaver 1 Boss Notes
| Boss | Core Solution | Achievement / Cleanup Risk |
|---|---|---|
| Melchiah | Do not try to win by direct damage. Use the side crusher traps, then trap him in the center cage and finish the mechanism. | Make a save before the fight if you are hunting boss-specific tricks. After winning, use pass-through-bars for Force Glyph access. |
| Kain, first fight | Close the distance while he teleports, strike him when he appears, and recover quickly if he knocks you into the Spectral Realm. | The Soul Reaver becomes your key for Cathedral doors and later cleanup. |
| Zephon | Bait leg strikes, hit stuck legs, grab an egg, ignite it at the torch, and throw it at Zephon’s head. Repeat until he falls. | Breaking his legs and activating the Cathedral pipe kill route are both achievement-relevant, so do not rush out without checking your list. |
| Rahab | Use Force Projectile to break the windows. Sunlight is the weapon; swimming is the reward. | Once swimming is unlocked, do your largest optional-collectible pass. |
| Dumah | Pull the spears, lure him back to the furnace room, then use the gas wheel and fire lever when he is in position. | Save first. If you need any Dumah-related interaction, do it before you permanently finish the fight. |
| Kain, Chronoplast | Only the Soul Reaver matters. Hit him three times and move upward as he relocates through the arena. | Good place for a separate save if you are attempting a clean or no-hit Kain achievement. |

Soul Reaver 1 Collectibles and Cleanup
For a first full run, do not chase every optional item the instant you see it. Many collectibles are easier if you wait until the route gives you the relevant power. The table below gives a practical order.
| Collectible / Upgrade | When to Get It | Route Reminder |
|---|---|---|
| Force Glyph | After Melchiah | Use the pass-through-bars power from the lake-side route and push the obelisks into position. |
| Stone Glyph | After wall climbing | Route through the skull / Stone Glyph path and solve the block puzzle. |
| Sound Glyph | After Force Projectile | Return to the Silenced Cathedral, break the glass route, carry the club across, and ring the bell. |
| Fire Reaver | After swimming | Use the Drowned Abbey warp route, enter the Fire Forge path, and pass the blade through flame. |
| Water Glyph | After swimming | Use the Human Citadel / underwater gate route, then flood the statue room with the block puzzle. |
| Fire Glyph | After Fire Reaver | Return through Raziel’s clan / Cistern route, move the torch through the timed door puzzle, and light the statue urn. |
| Sunlight Glyph | After swimming | Enter the lighthouse route near the Cathedral moat, solve the gear and steam platform sequence, then shift at the altar when the light aligns. |
| Glyph-energy upgrades | After Wraith Blade, Force Projectile, swimming, wall climbing, and Constrict | There are five practical cleanup checks: a Wraith Blade door near the lake route, a Cathedral glass route, a Drowned Abbey swim route, a Human Citadel waterfall route, and a Constrict-locked Raziel tower route. |
| Health pieces | Across the whole route | Community route notes list 15 logical health-piece stops. Do an early pass around lake / Abyss / fortress, then a second pass after wall climb, swimming, and Constrict. |
| Warp gates | Whenever you enter a major area | Activate them immediately. SR1 | Warp Factor is painful if you leave one symbol unvisited until the end. |
Soul Reaver 1 Achievement Watchlist
Most SR1 achievements are either story, combat-count, collectible, or boss-action achievements. The dangerous ones are the route-sensitive and boss-sensitive entries below.
| Achievement | Why It Matters | Practical Advice |
|---|---|---|
| SR1 | Don’t Get Your Feet Wet | Requires reaching the Abbey bell tower without touching water. | Make a save before the Drowned Abbey / boat approach and reload if Raziel hits water before the route is complete. |
| SR1 | Ariel Remembers | Requires listening to Ariel’s hints. | Return to Ariel at the Pillars after major bosses and powers. Do not wait until the final route if you have ignored her all game. |
| SR1 | You Are Persistent, Raziel | Steam describes it as leaving a boss arena and coming back. | Do it deliberately on a save you can reload, rather than accidentally finishing every boss cleanly. |
| SR1 | A Hymn of Death | Requires the upper Cathedral pipe sequence that kills Zephonim. | Do not treat the Cathedral as only a path to Zephon. Finish the pipe / airflow sequence and confirm the popup. |
| SR1 | Dismembered | Related to Zephon’s leg mechanics. | Bait and attack his stuck legs during the fight instead of only rushing the flaming-egg cycle. |
| SR1 | Untouchable | Steam describes blocking a Turelim telekinesis attack with your own. | When Turelim start using telekinesis, answer with your Force Projectile rather than simply dodging every cast. |
| SR1 | Not Without Purpose | The achievement API identifies it as a long glide without using an updraft. | Use a high, open fall and glide in a wide circle. Save first so failed attempts do not waste route time. |
| SR1 | Soul Spiral / Great Old One / Lore Master | These are max health, max glyph energy, and all glyphs. | Do your final cleanup after swimming and Constrict. Trying to force everything early creates extra backtracking. |
Soul Reaver 2 Roadmap
Soul Reaver 2 has fewer collectible detours, but its long forge puzzles make save planning more important. The main trick is to preserve a clean achievement route while still moving quickly enough for SR2 | Vampire Champion if you want it in the same run.
| Route Stage | Main Goal | Achievement Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Sarafan Stronghold | Escape the opening stronghold and reach the Southern Lake. | Start SR2 | Finish Him immediately by using every weapon type you find for finishers. |
| Southern Lake to Pillars | Open the underwater passage, reach Kain, and proceed to the ruins. | Good early setup for Aerial Jump and Drowned Rat II: kick or launch a human near water. |
| Subterranean Ruins and Swamp | Reach Vorador’s area and the Dark Forge. | Use the Elder God cave / open space for Not Without Purpose II, a 25-second glide without an updraft. |
| Dark Forge | Solve mirror, shadow, and sundial puzzles to gain the Dark Reaver. | Before entering the forge proper, scare the crows around the Dark Forge balcony for Scare the Crows!. |
| Light Forge | Use Dark Reaver bridges, mirrors, Sentry Eye timing, and the sun symbol to gain the Light Reaver. | Keep using new enemy weapons for Finish Him. Do not reload past finisher progress unless you are sure it saved. |
| Future return and Uschtenheim | Move through the changed stronghold, ruins, swamp, and village toward the Air Forge. | At the Pillars in this era, watch for fire-demon achievements and save before pushing too far. |
| Air Forge | Solve the longest forge, place the colored hearts, activate wind tunnels, and gain the Air Reaver. | Use the wrong heart intentionally first for Sacrifice Was Rejected, then retrieve it and solve the puzzle correctly. |
| After Air Reaver | Activate the time device and route back toward Janos Audron. | Before Janos, return to the Sarafan Stronghold for On the Outside and remaining weapon / sorceress checks. |
| Janos Audron’s Retreat | Complete blood-basin, bridge, urn, shield, and Sentry Eye puzzles. | Vertical Rush starts after the relevant Janos Aerie cutscene. Save first and move with purpose. |
| Fire Forge and Finale | Light the Fire Forge, return to the stronghold, and finish the Sarafan confrontation. | Save before the Fire Forge. Watch for Inferno at the Pillars and the final Vampire Champion time check. |

Soul Reaver 2 Missable and Low-Completion Achievements
| Achievement | Trigger | Route Advice |
|---|---|---|
| SR2 | Vampire Champion | Complete the game within 6 hours. | Best on a second run unless you already know every forge. Skip unnecessary fights, skip photo-mode distractions, and do not wander for screenshots. |
| SR2 | Finish Him | Use every weapon type to finish enemies. | Start in the opening stronghold. Every time a new weapon appears, finish at least one enemy with it before leaving the era or area. |
| SR2 | Harvester of Souls / Reaver of Souls | Feed Raziel and the Reaver 30 times. | Hard to miss if you feed consistently, but do not skip every soul in a speed-minded run. |
| SR2 | Aerial Jump / Drowned Rat II | Launch a human with your feet and make one drown. | The Southern Lake route gives you a convenient early human near a cliff and water. Reload if the launch angle is wrong. |
| SR2 | Not Without Purpose II | Glide for 25 seconds without an updraft. | Use a spacious cave or high area where you can circle without landing. Save before attempts. |
| SR2 | Scare the Crows! | Frighten the crows around the Dark Forge balcony. | Do this before entering the forge. If the achievement does not pop, reload the nearby save before the cutscene state changes. |
| SR2 | Keep Your Distance | Kill a fire demon groundling. | At the Pillars, let the larger fire demon create a groundling, then kill the smaller enemy without getting overwhelmed. |
| SR2 | Touch the Devil | Twist a fire demon’s neck with bare hands. | Near the Air Forge entrance, clear other threats, put the Reaver away in the Material Realm, and finish the fire demon bare-handed. |
| SR2 | Split | Use an axe finisher on a Greater Thrall. | Carry an axe from the Air Forge area and finish a Greater Thrall before you leave the opportunity behind. |
| SR2 | Sacrifice Was Rejected | Bring the wrong sacrificial heart to an Air Forge altar. | Place a colored heart on the wrong corpse first, then retrieve it and place it correctly. Do this before solving the forge for good. |
| SR2 | Air Lift | Lift an enemy with the Air Reaver. | Use the Air Reaver projectile on the first safe enemy after leaving the forge. |
| SR2 | What Sorcery Is This?! | Kill three sorceresses in a row without taking damage. | On the backtrack to Sarafan Stronghold, clear other enemies first, then fight the sorceresses carefully and reload if hit. |
| SR2 | On the Outside | Return to the Sarafan Stronghold before visiting Janos Audron. | After the time-device sequence, preserve a Swamp save and backtrack to the stronghold before committing to Janos. |
| SR2 | Vertical Rush | Complete the final Janos Aerie interior puzzle within 15 minutes. | Save before the triggering cutscene, learn the chalice / shield / bridge order, and retry from that save if the popup does not appear. |
| SR2 | Inferno | Kill the fire demons at the Pillars during the Sarafan era within 1 minute. | Enter prepared in the Material Realm and use the Reaver aggressively. Reload if the fight drags. |
Forge Puzzle Habits That Save Time
The Soul Reaver 2 forges are not random; they repeat a small vocabulary of puzzle actions. If you keep these habits in mind, the long rooms stop feeling like maze soup.
- Recharge before experimenting. If a room has Dark, Light, Air, or Fire Reaver sources, refresh before you move the next mirror, shoot the next eye, or cross a timed bridge.
- Sentry Eyes usually mean “blind first, then move.” If an eye protects an item, use the correct Reaver shot, grab the object quickly, and expect to repeat if you get hit.
- Dark bridges are temporary. Plan the next action before activating them, especially when the route asks you to switch back to Light Reaver and cross.
- Air Forge hearts are safe to correct. For Sacrifice Was Rejected, intentionally place a heart wrong first, then retake it and match colors properly.
- Janos’ Retreat is a sequence puzzle. Treat each urn, blood pool, shield, lowered bridge, and broken disc as one step in a chain. If you lose track, return to the central room and identify which pool is still empty.
- Fire Forge is a save-first zone. Community route notes flag it as a known glitch-prone area. Save before starting, then move torches and blood-drain cycles cleanly.

Common Mistakes
- Saving after cheats: if you care about achievements, keep cheats away from your main save. Use a separate file only for testing.
- Assuming portals save automatically: in Soul Reaver 1, manually save from the pause menu when possible.
- Overfighting mobs: neither game rewards you with XP for clearing every enemy. Run, glide, swim, or shift past enemies unless an objective or achievement needs them.
- Doing SR1 collectibles too early: if a route looks miserable, it may be meant for wall climb, swimming, Force Projectile, or Constrict later.
- Ignoring weapon finishers in SR2: Finish Him becomes annoying if you cannot remember which weapons counted before a reload.
- Entering a long forge tired: Dark Forge, Light Forge, Air Forge, Janos’ Retreat, and Fire Forge all punish half-attention. Stop at a save point instead.
