Witchspire looks gentle at first: bright biomes, a homey Hearth, creature companions, and a broom waiting somewhere in the progression tree. The trap is that all of those systems depend on each other. If you ignore Hearth upgrades, you delay flight. If you ignore Familiars, crafting slows down. If you rush story keys without food, incense, and storage, the midgame turns into a long resource apology tour.
This guide is written for the current Early Access build. It is a practical progression guide with a compact walkthrough route, not a claim that every future story chapter is finished. It covers the first hours, Hearth and Luminary priorities, broom travel, crafting, Familiars, silver, the four-key Early Access story route, and a clean achievement plan.

Quick Progression Route
If you only want the high-level route before diving into the details, follow this order. It keeps your base, combat kit, travel, and story progress aligned.
| Stage | Main Goal | Do Before Moving On | Common Mistake |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tutorial | Heal, clear vines, learn dodging, and choose your starter Familiar. | Use the pressure-plate puzzle to learn familiar commands. | Ignoring the Familiar command lesson, then struggling with later plates. |
| First base | Place a Workbench, craft Verdantbloom Petals, and unlock your Hearth. | Build storage and start collecting every common resource. | Leaving wood, stone, plants, and Spirit Dust behind because they seem basic. |
| Hearth 2 to 4 | Unlock Furnace, Witchcraft Circle, Spinner, and Simple Broom. | Craft a safe weapon, clear Froblin camps, and push toward the first key. | Buying cosmetic or comfort crafts before Hearth upgrades are secure. |
| First key | Beat the Al’uunian Golem around level 8 to 10, then turn in key #1. | Use the boss drops to upgrade Hearth and finish the broom path. | Fighting underleveled with no healing stack and no ranged option. |
| Broom unlock | Craft Simple Broomstick and activate flight pillars as zones open. | Place Hearth anchors near the Witchspire and new regions. | Flying into a new biome without a return point. |
| Midgame keys | Clear Timberline Basin, Eastell, Isle Bridge, and Shuddersands objectives. | Upgrade armor, assign Familiars to stations, stock food, and gather ore. | Trying to sprint the story while still using starter production habits. |
| Cleanup | Finish Hearth, level, Luminary, Familiar, gathering, cooking, brewing, and gear achievements. | Save Legendary gear, use incense for rare Familiars, and batch-craft simple recipes. | Discarding rare gear or postponing Familiar bonding until the very end. |
First Hour: Build A Base That Can Grow
The opening is simple, but it teaches habits that matter for the whole run. Heal from your inventory, burn away the vines, dodge the eye-orb projectiles, cross the floating platforms, and use the Familiar pressure-plate puzzle as a real lesson rather than a one-off tutorial trick. Later dungeons reuse the idea that your character and Familiar can solve space-control problems together.
Once you reach the open world, your first priority is not decoration. Find the diary page and satchel, gather branches and basic materials, place a Workbench, and craft a small healing reserve. Verdantbloom Petals are the opening safety net because they are cheap and quick. Better potions exist, but you need something you can spam while learning enemy attacks.
Build storage early. Witchspire is a survival-crafting game without hunger pressure, but it still punishes messy inventory habits. Wood, stone, Spirit Dust, Froblin Goo, ore, Shimmerdust, food ingredients, and Familiar materials all become relevant later. Put chests near the crafting area before your bag starts forcing bad decisions.
Hearth And Luminary Priorities
The Hearth is both your base heart and your progression gate. You can place several Hearths as fast-travel anchors, but your main Hearth level controls major unlocks. When you are unsure what to do next, upgrading Hearth is usually the right answer.
| Progression Node | Requirement | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
| Hearth | Starting Luminary | Lets you establish and expand a base. Treat it as the central upgrade path. |
| Furnace | Hearth Level 2 | Turns ore into ingots. This unlocks the gear and tool economy. |
| Witchcraft Circle | Hearth Level 3 | Handles ritual items, candles, and magical crafts. It also leads toward flight. |
| Spinner | Hearth Level 4 | Processes fibers and opens the route to Simple Broom. |
| Simple Broom | Hearth Level 4 | Unlocks the Simple Broomstick recipe and changes travel speed permanently. |
| Cauldron | Hearth Level 5 | Supports stronger potions and safer boss prep. |
| Sawmill, Windmill, Forester’s Hut, Miner’s Cabin | Hearth Levels 6 to 9 | Automates and refines the long resource grind, especially for achievements and late builds. |
Spend Luminary Points with a goal. In the opening, prioritize Hearth progression, one reliable weapon branch, Spirit Charmer if you are actively bonding Familiars, and broom travel. Witchspire has hundreds of Luminary nodes, so wandering randomly through the tree can leave you with many small bonuses but no real breakpoint.

Resource Loops By Biome
Do not think of the map as one giant checklist. Think of it as a set of loops. Each new region should answer three questions: what resource am I here for, what story gate does it support, and where is my return Hearth?
| Area Or Route | Main Use | What To Bring Back | Route Advice |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starting glades and first base area | Basic resource reserve and early Familiar practice. | Wood, stone, plants, Spirit Dust, early food materials. | Return often. Basic resources stay useful much longer than they look. |
| Froblin camps and caves | Combat XP, Froblin Goo, chests, and story prompts. | Froblin Goo, potions, scrolls, gear drops, Spirit Dust. | Clear camps fully. Chests and loot often sit behind or beside the obvious fight. |
| Chirili Crater and warmer zones | Hearth materials, creature bonding, and fire-themed Familiar hunting. | Cinderbloom, Chirili materials, combat XP. | Use this route when pushing Hearth 3 to 4 and preparing for flight. |
| Timberline Basin | Second key route, beach Hearth anchors, stronger crafting loop. | Iron, gemstones, beach materials, Familiar spirits. | Place Hearths near the Witchspire route and beach so failed flights do not waste minutes. |
| Mira Isles and Eastell route | Third key, stronger enemies, bridge-root objectives, silver access. | Silver Ore, Iron, Gemstones, upgraded gear materials. | Expect level 20 range pressure around silver paths. Avoid fights you cannot finish cleanly. |
| Shuddersands | Fourth key and current Early Access finale route. | Lotus Shards, boss prep materials, late Familiar opportunities. | Travel at night or use Lotus Brew and shade to manage daytime heat. |
Broom Unlock And Flight Rules
The broom is the biggest quality-of-life upgrade in Witchspire. Do not delay it for optional wandering. The practical route is: upgrade Hearth to Level 4, unlock the Spinner and Simple Broom in the Luminary path, gather Fine Wood and Spirit Dust, craft Simple Broomstick at the Witchcraft Circle, and activate the flight pillar requirements for each region.
| Broom | How To Get It | Cost Or Gate | Use Case |
|---|---|---|---|
| Simple Broomstick | Craft at Witchcraft Circle after unlocking Simple Broom. | 5 Spirit Dust, 3 Fine Wood; early Hearth 4 path. | Your baseline travel unlock. Craft it as soon as the route opens. |
| Superior Broomstick | Craft after the Fine Broomstick path opens. | 5 Greater Spirit Dust, 5 Fine Wood, 10 Tear of Al’uun; Hearth 5 and Witchcraft 15 path in current references. | The best planned upgrade for normal flight, boost speed, and refill comfort. |
| Al’uunian Broom | Equivalent higher-tier option when obtained. | Reported with the same travel profile as Superior Broomstick. | Use it if you get it, but do not postpone Superior only to chase it. |
| Magister Swift’s Broom of Utter Inconsistency | Buy from the desert or oasis shop. | 2500 Coins; has a small Luck penalty in current community data. | Fastest travel choice, but swap away before luck-sensitive farming if you care about that penalty. |
When flying, boost in pulses instead of emptying the gauge over open terrain. A drained boost gauge creates awkward stop-start travel, especially before you know where the next safe landing or flight pillar is. In new regions, put down a Hearth before exploring too far from the route back.
Crafting, Food, And Silver
Crafting has two separate jobs: remove friction from normal play, and prepare you for specific gates. A good early base is less about making every recipe and more about having the right few recipes available when the story asks for them.
| Item Or Station | Why You Want It | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Storage chests | Keep materials available for crafting without carrying your whole base. | Make them early and sort by resource family: plants, ore, combat drops, food, gear. |
| Verdantbloom Petal | Cheap opening heal. | Carry a stack before caves, camps, and boss attempts. |
| Furnace | Turns ore into ingots. | Assigning the right Familiar type speeds production once you have the setup. |
| Witchcraft Circle | Ritual items, candles, broom path, and magical tools. | This is one of the most important early Hearth unlocks. |
| Spinner | Refines fiber and supports the broom path. | Do not ignore it just because it sounds like a crafting side station. |
| Lotus Brew | Survives Shuddersands heat. | Current references list a five-minute brew that heavily reduces damage taken; the Shuddersands route also provides bottles near the abandoned Hearthkin. |
| Food and potions | Overhealth, healing, movement, damage, Spirit Charges, and boss safety. | Cook and brew in batches, especially if you are also chasing food and potion achievements. |
Silver starts mattering once you move beyond the first island. The IGN reference route places early Silver on the third island, Mira Isles, while also recommending that you build up resources after collecting the second key. Silver nodes resemble iron nodes but appear slightly lighter. If you are not sure, mine the suspicious node and check the result rather than trusting the color alone.
Plan for the Refined Witch’s Pickaxe before you make silver your main grind. Current reference material lists Mining level 5 and Hearth level 4 as requirements, with a recipe built around Iron Ingots, Froblin Goo, Carapace, and Gemstones. That means your silver plan actually starts earlier: clear Froblin camps, fight Specra for Carapace, mine iron and gemstones, then return with the better tool instead of poking late rocks with starter gear.
Familiars: Bonding, Incense, And Station Work
Familiars are not just pets. They fight, solve some pressure and command problems, contribute to achievements, and improve workstation output when assigned correctly. The main mistake is treating them as a passive collection system. You should actively hunt, bond, upgrade, and assign them.
Current community data gives bondable wild Familiars a 5 percent base chance to linger as a spirit after defeat. If a spirit appears, bonding is reliable before modifiers. Repeated failed linger rolls add a small player-wide pity bonus, so long hunting sessions are not completely wasted even when the exact species you wanted refuses to linger.
| Tool | Effect In Current References | When To Use It |
|---|---|---|
| Simple Spirit Incense | 30 sec duration, 10x linger modifier, reported 50 percent base chance with incense. | Good early hunting tool for common species or first collection goals. |
| Potent Spirit Incense | 30 sec duration, 15x linger modifier, reported 75 percent base chance with incense. | Use when you have found a specific species but do not want to spend rare incense. |
| Rich Spirit Incense | 20 sec duration, 20x linger modifier, reported 100 percent base chance with incense. | Save for rare, epic, or late-route Familiar hunts. |
| Shimmering Incense | 20 sec duration, 25x linger modifier, reported 100 percent base chance with incense. | Best reserved for the most annoying collection targets. |
| Spirit Charmer I to III | Unlocks around Bonding 5/10/15 and Hearth 3/4/6 in current references. | Take these if Familiar achievements or workstation support are part of your route. |
For a smooth run, do not only chase the strongest combat companion. You also need station helpers. A Familiar assigned to the right production station can speed output, which matters when you are cooking, brewing, refining, or preparing long crafting queues. Keep at least one combat team and a separate bench team in mind.

Combat And Weapon Choice
Witchspire lets you lean into wands, spellblades, Familiars, food, and movement. For most new players, a safe ranged wand route is easier than a pure melee plan because several bosses and camp fights punish greedy close-range attacks.
| Choice | Strength | Best Use |
|---|---|---|
| Wand of the Living | Cheap early craft with healing or damage utility. | Opening safety while you learn enemy patterns. |
| Stellar Burst | Early Astral ranged option listed in current weapon references. | Kiting the first major boss route and handling camps safely. |
| Arcflare Coil | Clean early spellblade craft if you prefer close range. | Camp clearing and players who dodge consistently. |
| Lucent Wand, Luxbolt Wand, Cosmic Conduction, True Gale | More focused ranged control, damage, or area options as your crafting opens. | Midgame specialization once you know your preferred element and combat rhythm. |
| Matriarch’s Bane | Quest weapon that weakens the Shudder Matriarch. | Open the Matriarch fight with it, then swap back to your main damage weapon. |
Whatever you choose, build around movement. Dodge often enough to level Endurance naturally, keep healing on a reachable slot, and use Familiar skills during boss add phases instead of saving them forever. Witchspire rewards prepared pressure more than reckless burst damage.
Main Quest Walkthrough Route
The Early Access story currently reads best as a four-key route with a clear endpoint after Lumi. Sources mention six keys as the broader story goal, but the readable walkthrough references and current Early Access notes stop at the available content rather than a complete final-release ending.
Phase 1: Tutorial And First Base
- Heal from your inventory, burn the vines, and fight through the first enemies.
- Use dodges to avoid eye-orb projectiles and cross the platform sequence.
- Choose a starter Familiar, then use Familiar commands and your own position to clear the pressure-plate gate.
- In the open world, find Eliria’s diary page and the satchel, gather at least five branches, and place a Workbench.
- Craft Verdantbloom Petals, unlock the Hearth, claim the extinguished Hearth, and raise it to Level 2 with Simple Planks and Spirit Dust.
Phase 2: Weapon, Froblin Cave, And First Key
- Follow the marker to Chirili Crater for another diary page and the materials that support Hearth upgrades.
- Pick one early weapon path. A wand is safer for first-time players; spellblades are fine if you are comfortable dodging in melee.
- Reach at least level 5 before Froblin Cave, then interact with the glowing orb and note the nearby shop location.
- Prepare for West Ruins around level 8 to 10. Bring healing, a ranged option, and a Familiar that can keep pressure on the boss.
- Defeat the Al’uunian Golem, claim Witchspire key #1, loot the chest, and use the Tears of Al’uun and other materials to push Hearth toward the broom route.
Phase 3: Flight, Timberline Basin, And Second Key
- Upgrade Hearth to Level 4, unlock the Spinner and Simple Broom, then craft Simple Broomstick.
- Activate the nearby flight pillar orb, fly to the Witchspire, and insert key #1.
- Build a Hearth near the Witchspire route and another near Timberline Basin beach. This prevents long backtracking if flight is not fully opened in a region.
- At the beach route, prepare around level 13 or higher and craft improved robes or equivalent defenses.
- Enter the tower route, solve the pressure-plate sprint sequence, defeat Shudder, and return key #2 to the Witchspire altar.
Phase 4: Dark Comet, Eastell, And Third Key
- After key #2, follow the Eastell route until the dark comet event appears.
- Inside the comet, follow the red ground line and distant red pillar. Do not linger underleveled around Seeks.
- Loot Eliria’s gear from the sachet and destroy the Heart of Corruption to return to the route.
- Prepare for R’hyrrgar around level 17 or higher, then assault the stronghold and defeat the level-22 boss for key #3.
- Use the giant pressure plates and bridge roots around Isle Bridge to open the route toward Shuddersands.
Phase 5: Shuddersands, Matriarch, And Lumi
- Build a Hearth near the Shuddersands Hearthkin. Pick up the Lotus Brew bottles near the abandoned camp and respect the daytime heat meter.
- Travel to Valas Oasis, using shade or night travel if needed, then enter Lotus Dungeon and collect Lotus Shards.
- Find and activate the three altar sites: search the western savanna, check the House of Triton in the southwest ruins, and then reach the floating landmass by the desert edge.
- Enter the opened desert ruin portal, take Matriarch’s Bane, clear the Shudder ambush, and leave.
- Fight the Shudder Matriarch near the desert Flight Pillar. Open with Matriarch’s Bane, swap back to your main weapon, clear adds quickly, and fight at night if heat is still a problem.
- After key #4, return to the Witchspire. The comet encounter pulls you into the Lumi fight. Treat Lumi as a level 30 check: stay mobile, kill summoned Seeks and shooting eyes first, and bring more healing than you think you need.

Achievement Cleanup Plan
Steam currently lists 70 Witchspire achievements. Many unlock naturally, but the long tail is mostly Hearth levels, player levels, Familiar bonding, crafting volume, gathering volume, and Legendary gear. Start cleanup while you progress instead of saving it all for the end.
| Achievement Family | Examples | Cleanup Advice |
|---|---|---|
| Story keys | Getting Started, Moving Along, Half-way There, Almost Open. | Follow the main route through the first four keys. Current Early Access references stop after the Lumi endpoint. |
| Hearth levels | Moved In, Fully Furnished, Decorating, Settled In, House Warming, Cozied Up, Renovating, Living good. | Do not spend rare materials on vanity projects until the next Hearth level is funded. |
| Player levels | Apprentice, Novice, Formidable, Experienced, Expert, Master, A Force to Behold, Legend of Starhaven. | Clear camps, finish quests, mine, craft, cook, brew, and keep exploring. Repeating only one activity is slower and duller. |
| Luminaries | Call of the Luminaries, The Master of Unlocking. | Activate shrines and spend points deliberately. The 100-Luminary milestone is easier if you stop skipping side discovery. |
| Cooking and brewing | Tasty!, Master Chef, Smells terrible… Perfect!, Potions for Days. | Batch-cook and batch-brew every time you return to base. Simple recipes count and keep your supplies useful. |
| Gathering | Stone Age, Wooden Mansion, Shimmering, Organic, Green Machine. | Pick up stone, wood, plants, and Shimmerdust during normal routes. Alder-tree Shimmerdust is easy to forget. |
| Specific Familiars | Rock & Roll, Flower Picking, You. Are. ADORABLE., Those look… Sharp, Spicy, Diamond in the rough, Sit!, Lux from above. | Use biome logic and incense. Do not burn your best incense on common targets unless you are cleaning one stubborn species. |
| Rare Familiar sets | A Rare Find, Epic Moment, Strongest Around, Those are Rare, Very Epic, Best of the Best, Om’s Blessed. | Start bonding early, revisit older zones after story progress, and save high-tier incense for rare, epic, legendary, or 99-Familiar grinds. |
| Gear | Gearing Up, Full House, Bling, Ready For Anything. | Equip one item early, keep every Legendary, and only dismantle or sell duplicates after the full Legendary set goal is safe. |
The rarest Steam achievement percentages are tied to long grinds: harvesting 500 plants, equipping Legendary gear in every slot, cooking 1000 food items, bonding 99 Familiars, and reaching high player levels. None of those are hard in isolation, but all of them punish a rushed story-only run.
Common Mistakes
- Delaying Hearth upgrades: Hearth levels unlock the stations and Luminary path that make the rest of the game faster.
- Skipping basic materials: Wood, stone, plants, Spirit Dust, Froblin Goo, and ore stay relevant far beyond the tutorial.
- Saving flight for later: The broom cuts travel time across every loop, so it should be a main objective.
- Only using Familiars in combat: Station assignment matters. A production Familiar can save more time than a slightly stronger fighter.
- Ignoring food because there is no hunger: Food is not mandatory survival upkeep, but it is still healing, Overhealth, speed, and damage prep.
- Fighting Shuddersands during the day without a plan: Lotus Brew, shade, Hearth placement, and night travel all reduce needless damage.
- Throwing away Legendary gear: You need Legendary equipment for achievement cleanup, so keep it until the full gear set is done.
- Expecting final-release completeness: Witchspire is Early Access. Treat late story notes as current-build guidance, not a permanent endpoint.
