Super Battle Golf Guide: Items, Beginner Strategy, and Achievement Cleanup

Official Super Battle Golf screenshot showing several players racing around a desert hole

Super Battle Golf looks like a simple race to the cup until the first rocket, cart, landmine, or panic dive turns a safe birdie into a multiplayer pileup. The winning habit is not “hit harder.” It is moving through each hole with a plan: get your ball moving, grab the right item without overloading your inventory, protect your next shot, and know when sabotaging another player is worth more than saving one stroke.

This guide is written from the July 10, 2026 source set. It covers the current Steam achievement list, core controls, item strategy, course cleanup, and the announced July 16, 2026 City Update only as an upcoming patch note. If you are playing after that update, recheck the new City items and Team Mode rules before using any item count as final.

Super Battle Golf is simultaneous golf first, party-combat second. You need clean shots and good disruption timing.

Best Beginner Plan

The first mistake most new players make is treating each hole like normal golf. You are not waiting politely for turns. Everyone is moving, swinging, driving, and attacking at the same time, so the safest beginner route is a repeatable rhythm rather than a perfect one-shot plan.

  1. Finish the tutorial and visit the Driving Range. This unlocks the basic feel of power, angle, movement, and item use. While you are there, practice climbing toward the Golf Shop roof for the Head in the Clouds achievement route.
  2. Open each hole with a safe first shot. A max-power launch is tempting, but hazards, water, sand, foliage, traffic, and other balls can turn a huge shot into a respawn. A controlled first shot that keeps you near a checkpoint or item route is often better.
  3. Grab purple item cases only when they fit your route. You can hold three items. If your inventory is full, drop dead weight instead of carrying three tools that all solve the same problem.
  4. Use checkpoints before taking greedy shortcuts. Floating checkpoints turn green when activated and set your respawn position. Skipping one is useful for specific challenges, but terrible when you are learning a hole.
  5. Fight near the green, not at random. Stuns, club hits, Air Horns, carts, and mines are strongest when they interrupt a finishing shot. Burning them halfway down the fairway often just gives the target time to recover.
  6. Learn one course group at a time. Coast teaches clean routing and water control, Forest punishes tree bounces and foliage, Desert makes long sightlines and gaps matter, and Snow adds slippery movement and newer Frozen Fairway interactions.
  7. Save achievement farming for private or coordinated sessions. A few achievements happen naturally, but the rare ones ask for very specific situations: 7+ opponents, long-range knockouts, no-checkpoint par 5 finishes, golf-cart water dives, or item timing that is easier with friends.

Controls and Mechanics Players Miss

Super Battle Golf is fast because the golf swing and the character are both active at the same time. While another player is aiming, you can dive, attack, drive, steal an item case, or put their next shot under pressure. These are the mechanics to build around first.

Mechanic Why It Matters Practical Use
Swing power More power gives distance but usually lowers control. Use medium power when the landing zone has water, sand, trees, carts, or other balls. Full power is best when the fairway is open or you need a risky catch-up shot.
Swing angle Angle changes whether the ball flies high, rolls low, or clears hazards. Use higher angles for gaps and obstacles, lower angles for greens, tunnels, ramps, and putts that need to stay on the ground.
Dive Diving is both defense and movement. Dive to beat another player to an item case, dodge a cart or projectile, or escape the edge of an Orbital Laser blast.
Club hit Hitting another player stuns them and gives you a short speed boost. Use it in races to the cup, around item cases, or when an opponent is lining up a finishing swing.
Inventory drop Three item slots are enough only if you curate them. Drop weak duplicates before picking up a case. Carry one finisher, one mobility or defense option, and one disruption tool when possible.
Checkpoints They decide where you respawn after falling, drowning, or being knocked out of position. Activate them on normal runs. Skip them only when deliberately going for Living on the Edge.
Creep/disarm Landmines can be approached slowly instead of triggered blindly. Use slow movement and interact carefully, or destroy/disarm from a distance when your item kit allows it.
Overtime If the timer runs out, the hole becomes a desperate finish window. For normal play, keep your ball close enough to finish quickly. For Snail’s Pace, set up near the hole and finish during overtime.

How to Play Each Hole

Every hole has different terrain, but the decision cycle is consistent. Think in phases and you will lose fewer strokes to panic.

Opening Shot

Your first shot should answer two questions: where will your ball safely land, and where will your character be when you need the next swing? In simultaneous golf, a beautiful ball path is not enough if your character is stunned, drowned, or stranded across the map when the ball stops rolling. Start with a shot that leaves you a quick follow-up. If an item case is on the clean route, take it; if it sends you far away from your ball, ignore it unless you are behind.

Middle of the Hole

This is where items decide most matches. If you are leading, defend the line to the cup and avoid unnecessary fights. If you are chasing, do not waste a Rocket Launcher or Dueling Pistol on the player in last place. Hit the leader, block the green, or use mobility to skip the slowest terrain. If the hole has narrow bridges, ramps, tunnels, foliage, water edges, or snow, place disruption where players cannot easily steer around it.

The Green

The cup area is where Super Battle Golf gets mean. Air Horns, club hits, landmines, carts, and lasers are most valuable when someone is charging the final swing. If you are putting, take the shortest safe charge instead of overthinking a perfect angle while three people line up behind you. If you are defending, stand close enough to interrupt but not so close that a ball, explosion, or cart gives your opponent an accidental achievement.

Overtime and Last-Second Finishes

Overtime punishes players who roam too far away from the hole. Enter overtime with your ball close, your character nearby, and one fast answer ready: Coffee, Spring Boots, Golf Cart, or a clean low-angle putt. If you are farming Snail’s Pace, do the opposite of a normal race: put your ball next to the cup, wait out the timer, then finish during overtime.

Item Guide

Items spawn from purple question-mark cases and are the main reason a lead is never safe. The sources available for this article support ten current core items. Steam’s official community hub also announced five City Update items for July 16, 2026: Jumbo Burger, Flash Camera, Rail Gun, Smoke Bomb, and Thunder Storm. Those are not treated as live-route recommendations here because the update had not launched at the time this guide was prepared.

Item Main Role Best Use Common Mistake
Rocket Launcher Homing stun Fire it when a leader is about to putt, cross a narrow line, or charge a key swing. Shooting too early, giving the target time to recover before the cup.
Air Horn Close-range disruption Stand near someone charging a swing and interrupt their timing at the green or on a risky approach. Using it in open ground where the victim can simply reset and keep running.
Landmine Area denial Place mines on cups, bridges, ramps, landing zones, and blind corners. Burrowed mines are also tied to Green Thumb. Dropping mines behind the action after everyone has already passed.
Golf Cart Mobility and knockouts Use it to catch up, ram players off line, or set up Road Rage and Underwater Expedition. Driving away from your own ball for a funny hit that loses the hole.
Orbital Laser High-impact zone control Save it for clustered players near the cup, overtime chaos, Danger Close, or Phone Home. Calling it on an empty lane before anyone has committed to a shot.
Spring Boots Vertical and distance movement Skip terrain, recover from bad character position, climb toward shortcuts, or combine with recoil tech for Frog Legs. Jumping before your ball has stopped, then landing far from the next swing.
Dueling Pistol Precise ranged stun Pick off a finishing player, duel another pistol user for A Matter of Honor, or farm long-range knockouts for Gunslinger. Holding it too long while closer, easier targets finish the hole.
Elephant Gun Heavy knockback and recoil movement Use the recoil for movement experiments, long-range knockouts, and the rare Now That’s Soldiering grind. Firing at close range without thinking about where the recoil sends you.
Coffee Speed boost Use it on long runs, after a respawn, or when chaining speed for Caffeinated. Ignoring it because it is less dramatic than a weapon.
Electromagnet Short defensive shield Activate it before crossing a contested open line or before a final putt under rocket pressure. Turning it on too early and wasting the protection window.

Course and Biome Strategy

Steam’s official description advertises 45 different holes, while older or unofficial pages may still use earlier counts or call them courses. Treat the number as patch-sensitive: the safe current advice is to learn the available holes by biome and recheck counts after major updates. A readable Steam Community course table, although marked with a Steam warning banner, split the available holes into Coast, Forest, Desert, and Snow groups. Use that as a practical study order, not as an official course database.

Biome What It Tests Useful Items Cleanup Notes
Coast Water edges, bridges, open lanes, and basic race pressure. Golf Cart, Coffee, Rocket Launcher, Landmine. Good place to learn safe checkpoints and practice water-related achievements like Walk the Plank.
Forest Trees, foliage, bounces, ramps, and awkward lines. Spring Boots, Dueling Pistol, Air Horn, Electromagnet. Practice Tiger in the Woods routes and foliage ambushes for Lying in Wait.
Desert Long sightlines, gaps, vertical control, and exposed greens. Elephant Gun, Dueling Pistol, Orbital Laser, Spring Boots. Strong for long-range pistol or Elephant Gun attempts. Community guides also flag Desert 1: Showdown as a hole-in-one practice candidate.
Snow Slippery movement, Frozen Fairway hazards, environmental eliminations, and harder recovery. Coffee, Spring Boots, Rocket Launcher, freeze-related tools when available. Save rare cleanup such as Ice to See You for coordinated sessions where you can control hazard placement.
City (announced) Street lanes, traffic, Team Mode, and five announced new items. Unknown until the July 16, 2026 update is live and tested. Do not finalize post-patch achievement or item routes from preview text alone.

Achievement Roadmap

Steam lists 44 achievements for Super Battle Golf. Some are natural multiplayer moments, but several are easier if you plan around private lobbies, friendly cooperation, or focused farming. The clean route is: finish tutorial and practice movement, collect easy multiplayer achievements naturally, then do item-specific and rare conditions with a group.

Step 1: Easy Setup and Practice

  • Ready for the Big Leagues: complete the tutorial first. It is simple, but many players skip it and then wonder why core controls feel vague.
  • Head in the Clouds: use the Driving Range to climb to the top of the Golf Shop. Spring Boots make the route easier if you are struggling.
  • A Cut Above: score a hole-in-one. Community hole-in-one guides specifically call out Desert 1: Showdown and Coast 8: Gauntlet as practice candidates, but patch physics can change, so learn the landing line instead of memorizing only one pixel setup.
  • Early Bird: aim for birdie or better 25 times. This comes faster once you know a few short holes and stop overusing max power.
  • Coolheaded: finish every hole in a match of at least nine holes on or below par. Treat it like a golf run, not a brawl: safe checkpoints, controlled shots, no unnecessary fights.

Step 2: Natural Multiplayer Achievements

These usually happen while playing, but you can speed them up by understanding what the game is counting.

Achievement Target Clean Method
Pacifist Finish a multiplayer hole without scoring a knockout. Play one clean hole, avoid carts and explosive items, and do not swing through other players near the cup.
Failed Successfully Finish after your ball is altered by another ball, item, cart, explosion, or similar contact. Chaotic lobbies unlock this naturally. If farming, set up a short putt and have a friend nudge the ball before it drops.
Playing with Fire Knock out an opponent and yourself with the same explosive item. Stand close to a target and trigger an explosive when both players are inside the blast.
Best Served Cold Get 10 revenge knockouts. Do not chase random knockouts. Let the same opponent knock you out, then return the favor with carts, explosives, or clubs.
Bully Dominate three opponents at once. Use a crowded green or coordinated lobby. Multi-hit items and carts make the timing easier.
One True King Stay in first place for nine consecutive holes. Play a consistent route with low-risk shots. Defend the lead instead of turning every hole into a fight.
Never Give Up Finish a hole after being knocked out at least 10 times on that hole. Use a private lobby, let friends knock you out repeatedly, then finish before the hole ends.
There Can Be Only One Be the sole finisher with seven or more opponents. This is much easier with a full coordinated lobby. Have one player finish while others deliberately miss, fight, or time out.

Step 3: Item and Combat Achievements

Item achievements are less about luck than setup. Pick courses with long sightlines for guns, tight cups for Air Horn and mines, and wide roads or cliffs for carts.

Achievement Best Setup Tip
A Matter of Honor Two players holding Dueling Pistols. Wait until both players visibly have the pistol, then knock out the other pistol user with your shot.
Gunslinger Long, open holes. Ignore the cup during farming. Stand at range and coordinate targets more than 50 meters away.
Now That’s Soldiering Long-range Elephant Gun knockouts. One of the rarest grinds. Use open sightlines, stationary friends, and repeatable spacing beyond 100 meters.
Rocket Pirouette Rocket Driver swing follow-through. Stand near a target and focus on the follow-through hit, not just the projectile or ball path.
Phone Home Orbital Laser self-hit. Call the laser on yourself in multiplayer and accept the knockout.
Danger Close Orbital Laser near miss. Place the laser close, wait for the strike, then dive out at the edge so you are near the blast without being hit.
Clowning Around Air Horn interruptions. Farm near the green while friends charge shots or prepare items. Trigger the horn during their action window.
Green Thumb Burrowed landmine knockouts. Mine cups, narrow ramps, bridges, and blind landings. Friends can repeatedly walk over the same kind of setup.
Safety First Enemy landmine disarm. Approach carefully with slow movement and interact when safe, or use a ranged disarm method if your item setup supports it.
Road Rage Golf Cart knockouts. Use open roads and predictable running lines. Aim for clusters, not one player sprinting across uneven terrain.
Goalie Club knockouts on the green. Stand near the cup and hit players trying to putt. It is slower than cart farming but easy to repeat.
Catlike Reflexes Dodge homing shots. Have a friend fire homing shots at a predictable range, then dive or move as the projectile closes.
Target Rich Environment Four knockouts within one second. Stack players in a private lobby and use a high-impact explosive, cart pileup, or laser timing.

Step 4: Movement, Terrain, and Weird Conditions

Achievement Route Idea
Frog Legs Use Spring Boots for the main leap, then add Elephant Gun recoil or a strong launch setup to push the distance past 100 meters.
Living on the Edge Choose a par 5 or higher hole you know well and avoid every respawn checkpoint. Do not attempt this while learning the course.
Explorer Spend over a minute out of bounds in multiplayer. Use a private lobby so the hole does not end while you are waiting.
Lying in Wait Hide in foliage and score a knockout from cover. Forest-style holes are the natural place to test this.
Tiger in the Woods Finish with a final shot that is slowed by foliage or bounces off a tree. Use a short, controlled finishing angle.
Walk the Plank Push opponents into deep water. Coast holes with narrow edges are ideal.
Underwater Expedition Drive a golf cart carrying passengers into deep water. This is much easier with friends who agree to ride along.
Couch Potato Spectate an entire hole. Do it intentionally in a low-stakes lobby so you do not accidentally rejoin play.
Sweet Moves Dance on the green for three seconds before anyone finishes. Reach the green first, then emote before sinking the final shot.
Caffeinated Chain Coffee or speed-boost opportunities long enough to keep boost active for 30 seconds.
Ice to See You Freeze opponents and let environmental hazards finish them while they are still frozen. Use coordinated Snow/Frozen Fairway setups.

Step 5: Long Grinds

  • Hoarder: pick up 1000 items. Do this naturally while learning item case routes; forcing it too early is boring and inefficient.
  • Behind You!: knock out 250 opponents from behind. Farm with a friend standing still or aim for distracted players near the green.
  • Grizzled Veteran: finish 500 holes. Combine this with hole-in-one practice, Early Bird, course study, and cosmetic cleanup.
  • Berserker: knock out 10 opponents in a row without being knocked out. A coordinated lobby is the cleanest route; in public play, use carts or explosives on crowded greens.
  • Home Run: knock out someone with a ball or dropped item from 125 meters or more. Use long sightlines and patient setup rather than normal hole racing.
  • How Is That Even Possible: community achievement guides identify this hidden achievement as knocking yourself out with your own ball. The simplest test is to stand close to a solid wall, aim into it with high power, and let the ricochet hit you.

Achievement cleanup is smoother when you choose the hole around the condition: open range, water, foliage, green pressure, or item spawn access.

Common Mistakes

  • Holding three flashy items and no route tool. A Rocket Launcher, Orbital Laser, and Elephant Gun look strong, but Coffee or Spring Boots may win the hole faster.
  • Using disruption against the wrong player. Stopping last place usually helps the leader. Target the player whose next shot matters.
  • Skipping checkpoints accidentally. Only skip them for planned achievements. In normal matches, a missed checkpoint can cost more than a bad swing.
  • Farming rare achievements in public without a plan. Some achievements need cooperation or very specific conditions. Use friends when the requirement involves 7+ players, passengers, repeated knockouts, or long-range spacing.
  • Trusting old item and hole counts after updates. Super Battle Golf is still receiving content. When a guide says 27 courses, 45 holes, Frozen Fairway, or City Update items, check the date and patch context.

Cleanup Checklist

  1. Complete the tutorial and basic Driving Range tasks.
  2. Learn one safe route in each available biome before worrying about rare achievements.
  3. Practice controlled angle shots near the green until you stop overshooting.
  4. Memorize item case locations on your favorite holes.
  5. Finish easy multiplayer achievements naturally: Pacifist, Failed Successfully, Playing with Fire, Green Thumb, Snail’s Pace, and A Matter of Honor.
  6. Do item-specific achievements in private lobbies: Air Horn, Dueling Pistol, Orbital Laser, Golf Cart, Elephant Gun, mines, and freeze setups.
  7. Do terrain achievements by biome: water on Coast, foliage in Forest, long range in Desert, freeze/environment hazards in Snow.
  8. Leave 500 holes, 1000 items, 250 behind knockouts, and rare 7+ player conditions for the end.

Leave the weirdest cleanup for last. By then you will know which holes give you the terrain, items, and recovery space you need.
