Emissary Zero Guide: Route, Safe Puzzles, Collectibles, and Achievements

Official Emissary Zero screenshot used as the guide hero image

Emissary Zero is a co-op horror exploration game about entering a changing building at night, finding the Moon, and getting back alive. The achievement list looks simple at first, but the 100% cleanup is where most players get stuck: two safebox achievements, map fragments, special items, easter eggs, the kitten radios, black liquid, and the later orange-shard update can all send you back through dangerous areas.

This guide is built from the current Steam metadata and achievement page, plus readable achievement and community references. It is not a fake room-by-room map. The building layout can vary and several collectible solutions are best handled visually, so the route below focuses on what a real player needs: progression order, what not to miss, which achievements are story-tied, which require cleanup, and where the current references are cautious rather than complete.

Emissary Zero is about slow exploration under pressure. Your best tool is not speed; it is knowing what to carry, repair, connect, and revisit.

What Kind of Guide This Is

The supplied references are achievement-focused rather than a full scripted walkthrough. Steam describes Emissary Zero as a 1-4 player co-op horror game where you explore a large changing location, complete tasks, manage resources, and communicate through in-game voice chat. Steam currently lists 20 achievements. The best article shape is therefore a route and achievement cleanup guide: enough progression help to finish the game, plus a checklist for the optional tasks that tend to be missed.

Three Steam Community guides were readable, but Steam also marked those pages as removed or incompatible. I treat them as community cross-checks only. The current public Steam achievements page controls the achievement names and total count.

First Clear Route

If you only want to finish the game once, use this order. It follows the achievement progression exposed by Steam and the achievement references, without pretending every corridor is fixed.

  1. Start a fresh run and leave the basement. This covers New game and Finally, some fresh air. Before leaving the early basement area, learn the power-room layout and note where portable radios can spawn or be found later.
  2. Talk to the stranger lady. Steam’s achievement page spells the objective as talking to the “Sranger lady”; in practice, this is the early NPC encounter tied to Oh… Hello….
  3. Reach the third-floor monster encounter. The Last Word on Gaming reference ties And here it is again… to meeting the monster on the third floor. Do not rush this floor blind; use doors, sound, and teammate callouts to avoid wasting resources.
  4. Find the laboratory route. Is this it? is tied to locating the lab. Once you are in the lab track, start checking for hatches, safebox clues, map fragments, and special items instead of assuming the game is only asking you to run forward.
  5. Open the gates to the surrounding area. This unlocks Grounds. The outside route also matters later for annex access and the updated TV-head/orange-shard quest.
  6. Enter the annex and progress the worm tasks. A stake instead of a head is tied to meeting annex inhabitants, and Another worm is tied to restoring the second worm.
  7. Open both safeboxes. One password safebox unlocks Someone is stomping nearby; the second-floor safebox unlocks OIIA. One community reference says the electrical-board safe password can be hard to see, so lower graphics or adjust brightness if the numbers are unreadable.
  8. Open the hatches to the laboratory. This earns The way is open and pushes the run into the late-game objective chain.
  9. Remove the energy dome, then finish the game. Almost the end… is tied to removing the dome, and The end is the finish.

Basement and early-building work is where you learn the game’s real loop: restore power, inspect small clues, move objects, and return to old rooms with new context.

Co-op Survival Rules

Emissary Zero can be played solo, but the achievement cleanup is easier with a small team. Treat the run like a shared job board rather than four people wandering independently.

Rule Why it matters Practical callout
Assign a carrier Radios, crystals, special items, and other carried objects can get lost in panic. “I have the radio. Do not pick up the crystal yet.”
Call floor and landmark first The building is large and can feel similar between rooms. “Third floor, green rooms, skull patrol nearby.”
Confirm before using quest items Some late tasks require carrying an object to a specific place, not just interacting with it. “The orange is under the balcony. Bring it close before picking it up.”
Separate story finish from cleanup Collectibles and update tasks may be easier after a completed save. “Finish once, then reload for kitten, books, eggs, and orange shards.”
Use visual references for collectibles The collectible guides are video-based, and text descriptions are not precise enough for every item. “Pause at the same room layout, then sweep shelves and corners.”

Achievement Roadmap

Steam currently lists 20 achievements. The first half is mostly progression. The back half is cleanup, and that is where you should slow down.

Achievement Verified objective Cleanup advice
New game Start playing. Story route.
Finally, some fresh air Get out of the basement. Story route.
Oh… Hello… Talk to the stranger lady. Story route; Steam text has a typo in “stranger.”
And here it is again… Reference says this is the third-floor monster encounter. Do not sprint through the third floor without triggering the encounter.
Is this it? Reference says this is finding the laboratory. Story route.
Grounds Open the gates to the surrounding area. Story route, also useful for later update cleanup.
A stake instead of a head Reference ties this to annex inhabitants. Progress the annex route.
Someone is stomping nearby Open the safebox with a password. Check electrical-board clues carefully; visibility can be poor.
Another worm Reference says restore the second worm. Progress the worm objective chain.
OIIA Open the safebox on the second floor. Second-floor safe cleanup.
The way is open Open the hatches to the laboratory. Story route.
Almost the end… Reference says remove the energy dome. Late-game objective.
The end Finish the game. Story route.
Researcher Collect all map fragments. Use a room-by-room sweep and do not finish cleanup from memory alone.
What was that… Likely one of the update achievements tied to the TV-head/orange questline. Community route below is cautious because Steam gives no public description.
Orange shards Likely the update achievement for destroying orangeheads. Community reference reports 15 orangeheads total.
Collector Collect all special items. The community collectible reference points players to a book/special item video.
Supremacy of the black liquid Reference says infect yourself. Do this after you understand the black-liquid risk.
Meow Make the kitten meow. Requires three radios, then the roof kitten setup.
Easter eggs Collect all the Easter eggs. Use video verification; text-only locations are not enough for every egg.

Safebox and Electrical Board Notes

There are two safebox achievements: Someone is stomping nearby for the password safebox, and OIIA for the second-floor safebox. The supplied electrical-board reference is readable but image-dependent; it says the password is part of an electrical-board safe puzzle and can be very hard to see. Because the captured text does not include a reliable text code, this guide does not invent one.

Use this safe approach instead:

  1. When you find an electrical board or circuit clue, inspect it at close range before entering the safe code.
  2. If the clue is too dark or blurred, temporarily lower graphics settings, raise brightness, or change display scaling.
  3. Take a screenshot before leaving the clue room so you can compare it with the safebox input.
  4. Open the password safebox before you push too far into the next objective chain; it is easy to forget once monster pressure increases.
  5. For the second-floor safebox, sweep the whole floor before leaving. The achievement name OIIA is specific to that second safe.

Safe clues and board details are easy to miss under horror lighting. If the game lets you inspect a panel, assume it may matter later.

Meow: Kitten Radio Cleanup

The community guide gives the most useful kitten route. Because the Steam page only says Meow without a full description, treat these as practical community notes rather than official instructions.

Radio Reported location Cleanup tip
Radio 1 Near the beginning, in the room where you turn on the power. Grab this early or mark it on your mental route before the building gets busier.
Radio 2 Third floor, around the green rooms where the first skull monster patrols. The guide author was not fully certain on the exact spot, so sweep nearby rooms and corners.
Radio 3 Annex, entering from the outside save point; near a desk with a TV, on the ground to the right. Bring it out before advancing too far into annex objectives.

Once you have all three radios, bring them back to the spawn area, take the elevator to the roof, turn all three radios on, and wait for the cat to meow. That should unlock Meow.

Collector, Researcher, and Easter Eggs

The public Steam page confirms these cleanup achievements:

  • Researcher: collect all map fragments.
  • Collector: collect all special items.
  • Easter eggs: collect all Easter eggs.

The supplied community reference points to Baldhead videos for book/special item locations and easter egg locations. YouTube oEmbed verified both title and channel, so the videos are safe to embed as visual references. Use them as a visual companion while you sweep, not as a replacement for careful in-game checking.

For a clean sweep, finish the story once, then reload a safe cleanup point and move through the building by floor. Check shelves, desks, corners near power rooms, annex side rooms, and lab-side display areas. If a teammate picks up a collectible, call it out immediately so the group does not waste time searching a cleared room.

What Was That and Orange Shards

The current Steam achievement page includes What was that… and Orange shards, but it does not provide public descriptions in the captured text. The community update guide appears to cover these two newer achievements. Because that guide is Steam-warning-marked, the route below is useful but should be treated as cautious community guidance.

TV-Head Quest Route

  1. Load a completed save if you already finished the game. The guide author was unsure whether the mission requires completion first, so a completed save is the safer route.
  2. Go outside near the skull monster area and look for a smiling TV head on a car.
  3. Talk to the TV head. It should point you toward the updated basement.
  4. Use the blue pin on the map and find the hole in the wall.
  5. Move through the short maze, passing the creature that walks on all fours, until you meet the TV head again.
  6. Follow the TV head to the operating room in the laboratory.
  7. Retrieve the orange below the balcony with the claw machine controls and bring it close enough to pick up.
  8. Return to the TV head, remove the TV head, replace it with the orange crystal, keep talking until it disappears, then find it again in the main courtyard near the door where the Moon came from the lab.
  9. Talk again and watch it fly up. This appears to be the first update achievement, likely What was that….

Destroying Orangeheads

After the TV-head route, the same guide says to return to the operating room, read the note about upgrading a crystal, and run to the dispenser at the far end of the hall. Choose a crystal, place it into the glass casing in the operating room, and pick it back up after it upgrades. The upgraded crystal can shoot an orange laser used to destroy orangeheads.

The reported total is 15 orangeheads. The route given is:

  • Start with the display case near the dispenser and stairs.
  • Clear the display cases on the bottom floor of the lab.
  • Move to the second floor of the lab and destroy the aggressive orangeheads.
  • Go to the third floor and work back toward the main building with the bookshelves, where the first orangeheads were seen.
  • The final five are reported in that bookshelves/main-building stretch.

Use the in-game tracker after each destroyed orangehead. If the tracker stops updating, do not assume the achievement broke; backtrack through the lab floors in order and recheck display cases before searching random rooms.

Supremacy of the Black Liquid

The achievement reference gives the simple condition as infecting yourself. Because Emissary Zero is a horror game with resource and survival pressure, leave this until after you understand the late-game route. Do it on a cleanup pass or at a point where you are not carrying a key item for the team. If playing co-op, tell your group before you experiment so they can preserve the main objective progress.

Common Mistakes

Mistake Why it hurts Better move
Finishing once and assuming 100% is done The story route leaves collectibles and update achievements behind. Plan one first clear and one cleanup run.
Ignoring radios until the end The kitten achievement needs three radios from spread-out locations. Tag each radio location as soon as it is seen.
Trying to read safe clues at default dark settings One safe clue is reported as very hard to see. Change brightness/graphics and take a screenshot.
Carrying update crystals without a plan The orange-shard route involves multiple lab floors and a dispenser upgrade. Upgrade the crystal first, then sweep floor by floor.
Using a random multiplayer lobby for collectible cleanup Uncoordinated players may move items or push objectives early. Use solo, split-screen, or a small group with one caller.

The lab is the main cleanup choke point: hatches, the energy dome, orangeheads, safebox clues, and late-game objectives all converge there.
  1. Run 1: finish the game naturally. Learn the basement, third floor, lab, grounds, annex, hatches, dome, and ending route. Open safes if you find the clues naturally, but do not reset the run over a missed collectible.
  2. Run 2 or reload: safebox and story cleanup. Get Someone is stomping nearby, OIIA, any missing progression triggers, and Supremacy of the black liquid.
  3. Collectibles pass: follow the verified book/special-item and easter egg videos while sweeping floor by floor. Mark Researcher, Collector, and Easter eggs as separate checklists.
  4. Kitten pass: collect the three radios, bring them to the roof, turn them on, and wait for Meow.
  5. Update pass: use a completed save, follow the TV-head route, then upgrade the crystal and destroy all 15 orangeheads for the orange-shard cleanup.
