Syberia 3 is easiest to finish when you treat each location as a chain of dependencies rather than a collection of isolated puzzles. A conversation can unlock a later argument, an examined object can change a dialogue option, and several achievements are lost if you test a mechanism before you understand it. This walkthrough follows Kate Walker from the Valsembor clinic to the final border crossing, with the important puzzle states, missable actions, and cleanup decisions placed where they actually matter.
The guide contains major story spoilers. It covers the base game’s full route and then gives a short route for the separate An Automaton with a Plan story add-on. Steam currently lists 40 achievements for the base game.

Before you start: saves, controls, and a clean 100% run
There is no normal manual-save menu. The game writes autosaves as you enter areas and complete actions. On PC, a community-documented fallback is to close the game and copy the current Syberia 3 save data from the Microids folder under %USERPROFILE%AppDataLocalLowMicroidsSyberia3. Folder layouts can vary by release and platform, so confirm that the file timestamp changed during your session before relying on a backup. Never replace a live save while the game is running.
For an achievement-focused run, keep external backups at four practical checkpoints:
- Before Dr. Mangoling’s interview: protects the truthful lie-detector result and the early dialogue achievements.
- Before convincing Captain Obo: protects the first-attempt conversation route and the knowledge-based argument.
- Before the icebreaker panel and before the temple mirrors: both puzzles have execution-based achievements.
- Before lighting the final smoke machine: the fire must remain alive until the signal is complete.
Examine inventory objects as soon as you collect them, read every document to its last page, and use the thought prompt on every response before choosing an answer whenever lightbulb icons appear. Those habits build progress toward You call that cheating…?, The scriptwriter’s nightmare, and Time to collect your thoughts without a separate grind.

Missable achievement roadmap
The automatic story achievements will arrive as the migration advances. The entries below are the ones most likely to force another playthrough.
- One flew over the nut-job’s nest: answer Mangoling truthfully. A half-truth is acceptable where offered; for the final question, refuse to answer rather than lying.
- Friends for life: exhaust Anton and Leon’s dialogue before using Mangoling’s key at the elevator, then speak to them again after discovering that the key is sabotaged.
- Cassandra: warn Dr. Zamiatine about Olga during the first clinic visit, return after Cantin’s call and warn him again, then meet him during the rescue.
- The Valsembor horror: inspect the Quilak carving and question its Youkol craftsman, then ask the fisherman above Valsembor harbor about the same legend.
- Martingale / Crime and punishment: read Captain Obo’s logbook before the tavern confrontation, then use Coax, Valsembor needs you, and I offer redemption in that order.
- A word to the wise…: in the coal warehouse, test only the third chute on the right, which is also the second chute from the far end.
- Master locksmith: make the full-size Krystal key at exactly 200% on the first attempt.
- Ice breaker: connect and start the machine, lower the mechanism, then move through gear positions 1, 3, and 2 without stalling.
- A little tenderness, maybe…?: pet the same marked snow ostrich in the market tent, after returning from the dive, and at the Olympia camp.
- Ironic, ain’t it?: once Oscar steps outside the decontamination airlock, press its red button three times.
- Raiders of the lost temple: complete the pool’s mirror network in fewer than 20 manipulations.
- Anything goes: activate the bridge waterwheel before your first conversation with the customs officer.
- Mobile communication: keep the smoke-machine fire burning from ignition until all four colored signals are working.
1. Escape the Valsembor clinic
Repair the call box
After speaking with Kurk, inspect the dead call button beside the ward door. Looking at its right side reveals the wiring diagram and makes the knife available on the room’s table. Use the knife to remove the screw, reconnect the loose green wire, seat the battery assembly, close the cover, and press the red button.
During Mangoling’s interview, use the thought prompt on every response before choosing. Stay truthful for the medical-test achievement. Once you have the strange exit key, talk through every topic with Anton and Leon behind the blue gate. Fit the key’s articulated arms to the elevator silhouette; the lock will still reject it. Examine the key afterward to discover the missing pin, then return to Anton and Leon before searching Mangoling’s desk for the brochure that shows an intact key.
Send the key to the Youkols
Show the brochure and key to Kurk. The owl outside will not approach without bait. Take Anton’s key while he sleeps, unlock the aviary, collect the mechanical bird, place it on the balcony sill, and activate it twice. The owl carries the damaged key to the Youkol smith and later returns with the repaired version.
Olga’s office and the hidden tunnel
On the lobby level, speak to Zamiatine and warn him about Olga. Eavesdrop in Olga’s office, read all four emails, take Cantin’s call, then go back and warn Zamiatine a second time. In Olga’s office, pull the curtain cord to expose the shield. Build the squid shape on the three rotating sword bands, then copy the sword’s five gem colors onto the shield:
Top blue; left green; lower-left red; right blue; lower-right red.
The shield opens a concealed elevator. In the tunnel, collect the empty can, fill it with hydrochloric acid from the barrel beyond the bridge, and use it on the boat’s anchor chain. The boat carries Kate to the Youkol camp.
2. Clean the river and make a pass
Dam solution
The four sluice levers must send the gauge into its green range. Read them from top to bottom:
| Lever | Position |
|---|---|
| 1 | Fully closed |
| 2 | Half open, about 45 degrees |
| 3 | Fully open, about 90 degrees |
| 4 | Fully closed |
Back in the market tent, inspect the Quilak sculpture and question the craftsman. Pet the marked ostrich for the first time. Enter the nearby yurt and retrieve the candles from its crate, then ask the vegetable seller for his wife’s unstamped pass.
Stamp machine order
- At the checkpoint cabin, remove the sponge and the broken stamp plate from the press.
- Soak the sponge in the frozen squid-ink pool outside the market.
- Give the plate and candles to the blacksmith so he can cast a replacement stamp.
- Return to the press. Install the inked sponge on the sliding arm and lock the new stamp into its upper holder.
- Move the sponge under the stamp and pull the large handle once to ink it.
- Slide the sponge away, place the old plate in the lower bed, lay the pass over it, clamp both sides, and pull the large handle again.
- Release the clamps and take the official pass.
Cantin interrupts the process. Knock the bottle down, then push the desk lamp onto it. Use the broken glass to cut Kate’s restraints and show the completed pass to the guard.
3. Valsembor: Steiner, Obo, and the Krystal

Finish the Quilak research before entering the shop
From the harbor entrance, go left to the fisherman above the locks and ask about Quilak. This only produces the relevant achievement if you already investigated the carving at the Youkol camp. Board the Krystal before the main tavern conversation, climb to the bridge, and read Obo’s logbook from beginning to end. Also examine Oscar’s statue in the town square as an early-information action.
Steiner’s medicine: set the clock to 5:00
Steiner collapses after confronting Kate. Pick up the cup near the clocks. Search behind the counter for his prescription, and read the note beside Kurk’s unfinished prosthesis downstairs: his medication is taken at tea time. Put the cup beneath the cuckoo clock, open its glass, set the minute hand to 12 and the hour hand to 5, then give the prepared cup to Steiner.
For Grumpy old…, irritate him three times: operate the mechanical bird, try to leave while he is ill, and later flick the Krystal model’s light repeatedly. Watch the Baranour film and read the related newspaper material before moving on.
Convince Obo on the first try
After the bartender sobers Obo, choose Coax, Valsembor needs you, and I offer redemption. The last choice depends on having read his logbook. This route satisfies both the researched-argument and first-conversation conditions.
Load coal and water
Obo gives you the warehouse and crane code: 0509. Open the Krystal’s coal hatch before leaving the deck. In the warehouse, collect the loose loading chute and metal bar. For the one-try achievement, strike only the third chute on the right (second from the end), place the cart beneath it, fit the chute, and fill the cart. Change the track, repair the small rail car by moving its loose button into the empty slot, and push the coal outside.
Use 0509 at the crane. Set the camera toward the coal cart, place the crane over it, lift it, switch the camera toward the ship, translate and rotate the crane until the load hangs over the open bunker, then release it. The useful rule is simple: use the monitor after every rotation rather than continuing blind.
On deck, open the water coupling, insert the hose, and close the coupling before the hose slips free. Climb the water tower and pull its lever.
Make the Krystal ignition key
At Steiner’s model ship, fit Sarah’s crank to open the case. Move the model’s dial through 30, 80, 60, and 100, then pull the lowered anchor chain to reveal the miniature key. On the duplicator, lock the miniature in the left chamber and a fresh blank in the right. Set the scale to 200% before starting the machine. Do not test another percentage first if you want Master locksmith.
Persuade the mayor and open the underwater locks
Question the protester below the town hall before speaking to Mayor Bouliakine. For the knowledge-based route, choose Sorry for bothering you, Leave with the Youkols, and Think about the elections. The mayor authorizes Kate to operate the locks manually.
At the diving shed, collect the suit, helmet, and empty air bottles. Mount the bottles, lock the bracket, set the compressor to 180 bar, start it, and release the charged cylinders. Underwater, collect the large cog, the two smaller gear assemblies, and the square key. At the first circular door, place the large cog upper-left, the single cog upper-right, and the stacked gear at the bottom. At the second door, use the square key, turn its red wheel fully counterclockwise, and pull the lever. Pass through the open gate, take the chain from the wreck, return to the first mechanism, connect the gear train to the red wheel, turn it fully clockwise, and pull the right-side lever.

4. Rescue Kurk and survive the lake
Return to the clinic
After the Youkols board, collect two large wedges and the small wedge from the runaway cart. Visit the town square before taking the funicular if you completed the mayor’s persuasion route. At the funicular door, use the small wedge to lift one corner and insert a large wedge; recover the small wedge and repeat on the other corner. Put the small wedge on top of a large one to force the door off. Pry open the fuse box with the knife, restore power, call the car, and ride up.
Take the walkie-talkie from the helicopter, then use it from cover in the clinic lobby to lure away the soldiers. Zamiatine now confirms Kate’s earlier warnings. In Olga’s office, take the paperclip from Kurk’s chair, jam the rear pendulum mechanism, drain the syringe, refill it with Ayawaska’s beverage, and inject Kurk. Do not search for a keypad code: take Olga’s heavy statuette and smash the chair’s control box instead.
Icebreaker sequence
In the Krystal’s machine room, rotate the upper wheel until the drive pipe connects. Open the red-button cover and start the gears. Lower the icebreaker assembly, then move the gear selector through 1, 3, 2 quickly. If the mechanism stalls, the story can continue after a restart, but the Ice breaker achievement requires a clean first activation.
Quilak attack
Pick up the handmade matches in the passenger area and the emergency flare from the box under a bench. Outside, use the crowbar to break the accessible running lights, move the crate to reach the stuck light, and use the flare to distract Quilak from the final one. Cut the engines from the machine room. Repair the lantern at the rear workbench with Obo’s hidden strong vodka and the matches, then take it back to him.
5. Baranour: restore Oscar and pull the ship ashore

Take the Krystal key from the bridge and use it on the radiation-goggle dispenser at the bow. Pull the lever and collect the goggles before exploring. On the beach, climb to the small hut, take the telescopic hook, use it to pull down the Krystal’s power cables, ask a Youkol to connect them, and restart the ship’s power from the engine room. Doing this before Oscar asks preserves the shortcut achievement.
Inside the park workshop area, push the linked rail cars off the track now. At the tractor, remove the inactive automaton and take its small key. Use it on the workshop tool chest; collect the Voralberg tools and the loose gear. The map marks the numbers 15 and 25, which are the roller-coaster stops.
Reach Katerina and revive Oscar
Fit the two rods into 15 and 25 to make the coaster stop near Katerina’s station. Read her photo album all the way to its final page. When she confronts Kate, use Pardon, Introduce yourself, and Talk about her photo album. She lends you a Voralberg activation key. Return to the automaton body, install Oscar’s heart, connect both tubes, use the small tool to open the inner socket, and turn Katerina’s key in it.
Return the borrowed key and get clothes for Oscar. Before going back to the tractor, descend into the metro area and speak with Kurk near the rubble for Available brainwidth. At the tractor, connect the Krystal cable, loosen the winch with the Voralberg wrench, and ask Oscar to advance. Have the Youkols redirect the cable to the Ferris wheel. Fit the workshop gear into the wheel mechanism and start it to haul the Krystal onto the beach.
6. Clear the metro tunnel

Take seaweed from the flooded side tunnel, get a root from the Youkol farther inside, remove cloth from a yurt, and collect the lighter and flask at the abandoned blacksmith table. Put the root into the work hole, wrap it with cloth, pour on the flask, and light it. The torch moves the bats only briefly because the roof vents remain closed.
Oscar can open those vents from the irradiated exterior. After he enters the airlock, press the red button three times for Ironic, ain’t it?. Outside, take the shears from the shop and the fire-truck key from its glove compartment. Drive the truck forward, align and extend its ladder, cut the vent cover, then use the truck’s water cannon to repel the mechanical dogs.
For Kate’s decontamination cycle, place the seaweed in the iodine intake when the machine pauses. Once the outside vent is open, rebuild the torch at the blacksmith table and clear the bats permanently.
7. Olympia and the Temple of the Red Moon
At the Olympia camp, find and pet the marked ostrich for the third time before entering your yurt. Speak to Kurk and Ayawaska at the fire, visit Dunyasha’s hut, and take the manuscript back to Kurk for translation.
The three lenses are found in these places:
- Green: the shrine cave beside Dunyasha’s home.
- Red: the trophy case in the stadium observation room; wrap Kate’s hand with Sarah’s scarf before breaking the glass.
- Blue: beneath the unusual stadium chair after solving its six-glyph lock.
The chair glyphs, from left to right, are Sacrifice, Pain, Death, Sacrifice, Mourning, Madness.
At the empty pool, put the blue lens in the left slot, green in the middle, and red on the right. Two readable references disagree about the inventory numbers attached to the blue and green lenses, so use their colors rather than their numbers. The mirrors must carry all three beams to the colored door mosaic. If you are pursuing Raiders of the lost temple, make a save backup before touching a mirror and restart the attempt if the manipulation counter may have reached 20. The route is spatial and camera-sensitive; forcing a text-only sequence after a missed snap point is less reliable than resetting a clean attempt.
8. Border bridge and the final smoke machine
Raise the bridge before speaking to the officer
Take the knife and lighter from Kate’s yurt. Behind the checkpoint, press the storeroom button to call the cargo basket. Climb the second ladder down and pull the waterwheel lever before speaking to the customs officer; that ordering unlocks Anything goes. Cross the bridge, meet the Watcher, and return after learning that he wants vodka and a ritual signal.
Take the brick from the officer’s motorcycle track and Ayawaska’s staff from her chest. Break the checkpoint’s rear window with the brick, then collect the officer’s flask and papers. Send the flask to the Watcher in the cargo basket; he returns bags of sawdust.
Smoke-machine solution
The staff gives the left-to-right color sequence: red, blue, blue, yellow. Before lighting anything, collect the four funnels, red and yellow resin quarters, the round blue resin, and the log. Cut the round blue resin on the stump to make the missing blue quarter.
- Prepare each of the four front chimneys so its lower resin slot will hold a quarter instead of dropping it through. Keep the airflow valves open.
- Place red resin in chimney 1, blue in chimneys 2 and 3, and yellow in chimney 4.
- At the rear, fit funnels 1 through 4 into the matching chimneys. One funnel is initially lodged in the open rear of the third chimney; take it and close that hatch.
- Fill all four small drawers with sawdust.
- Put the log and the customs papers in the firebox. Only now light them, then close the firebox.
- Keep at least one smoke path open whenever adjusting a valve. If the visible smoke stops completely, immediately reload rather than finishing the puzzle.
- Open the main pipe valve. Four colored plumes confirm the complete signal.
The story concludes after the Watcher recognizes the signal. What counts is not the destination… unlocks with the ending.
Optional story: An Automaton with a Plan
Steam lists this as separate downloadable content, so it is not required for the base game’s 40 achievements. It retells Oscar’s rescue of Kate after Cantin’s attack.
- As Oscar, inspect Kate’s yurt, speak to Kurk, and get permission to use the Youki.
- Enter the stadium observation room and recover Kate’s scarf. Show it to the Youki so it can follow her trail.
- At the blocked subway, let the Youki find a crowbar and force the side entrance.
- Find Kate in the control room and speak to Cantin on the tracks.
- After the story briefly returns to camp, resume the true version in the subway. Oil the rusty control lever and drop the chandelier.
- Take Cantin’s keys, unlock Kate’s restraints, then use the same keys on the chained exit.
Common stalls and what they usually mean
| Problem | Likely missing dependency |
|---|---|
| The owl ignores Kate | Inspect the owl, report back to Kurk, then unlock the aviary and activate the mechanical bird on the sill. |
| The fisherman has no useful Quilak topic | Inspect the carving and speak to its craftsman at the Youkol market first. |
| The coal achievement does not unlock | You struck another chute before the correct third-right chute. |
| The mayor lacks the election argument | Question the protester below the town hall before starting the mayor’s dialogue. |
| The underwater gears keep falling | Use large upper-left, single upper-right, and stacked bottom; a wrong gear simply drops and must be picked up. |
| The Krystal cannot power Baranour | Pull down the cables with the telescopic hook, have a Youkol connect them, then restart power in the machine room. |
| Katerina refuses the useful conversation route | Read her photo album completely before she confronts Kate. |
| The temple door does not react | Use the lens colors, not disputed item numbers: blue left, green center, red right. |
| The final smoke has the wrong color | Check both the resin order and the rear funnel matching; the sequence is red, blue, blue, yellow. |
