Phonopolis Walkthrough: Puzzle Checkpoints from the Opera to the Absolute Tone

Felix beside the moving apartment building in Phonopolis

Phonopolis is easiest to solve when you stop treating a screen as a pile of clickable props. Each major room is a small machine: one object supplies power or pressure, another redirects it, and a character or sound confirms the new state. If Felix is carrying something, that object usually belongs to the next blocked route. If nobody reacts, the missing step is normally in the current screen rather than in a distant inventory chain.

Research boundary: this route was checked on July 19, 2026, with the official Steam feed listing version 1.0.5 as the newest update. Earlier patches repaired problems in the Avant-Garde Baths, Avant-Garde Quarter, Modular Flat, Canteen, and Cooking Machine. Update the game before assuming that an unresponsive control is part of a puzzle.

The moving apartment floors establish the central rule: change the building state, watch who reacts, then use the route that reaction opens.

Full-story spoiler warning: the checkpoints below identify Rachel, the Leader, the late districts, and the final Absolute Tone sequence. They cover every major progression chain, but they do not pretend that screenshot-only beam boards have a universal text code. For those boards, the guide explains the target state and the confirmation cue.

Read every room through input, motion, and feedback

Before changing a machine, identify three things:

  • Input: electricity, smoke, water, air pressure, music, a loudspeaker command, or a carried object.
  • Motion: the pipe, floor, wall tile, character, car, platform, or beam piece that can redirect that input.
  • Feedback: a new sound, a color change, an NPC animation, an opened panel, or a route turning yellow. That feedback means the previous step registered.

Let an animation finish before pressing the same control again. Several scenes reuse one loudspeaker for multiple reactions, and a second click made during the first animation can make the state difficult to read. When a visual board is involved, change one piece, follow the beam or movement to the first failure point, and adjust that point instead of rotating the whole board at random.

The opera, crusher, and police transport teach the rule

At the waste yard, try to walk Felix away from the crusher until the loudspeaker repeatedly sends him back. Continue the work sequence until the machine lifts, jams, and drops him underground. Wake Felix, move right through the rubble, inspect the woman’s portrait, and use the gramophone above the piano. The music exposes the old opera stage.

Open the stage curtain with the rope on the right. Clear the set rather than looking for a code: drag the column and loose rocks off the right edge, lift and drop the wooden crate until it breaks, and use the upper-left rope until the hanging sun appears. Pull the sun down before dragging the pyramid forward. Once the stage is clear, the pyramid breaks and reveals the headphones. Keep cycling the hanging set until the backdrop tears, then rip the paper away to expose the exit ladder.

Back at the crusher, drag the headphones from the corner of the screen onto Felix. He can now ignore the Leader’s command while still using the loudspeaker to control the other workers. Trigger it until the crusher meter reaches the red zone, then operate the overloaded machine. The police take Felix away because the loudspeaker no longer controls him.

Inside the transport, peel the loose wrap from the vehicle to uncover its diagram. The panel changes after each crash, so read it as three sabotage states:

  1. Send water forward, switch to the mechanical wheel or gear state, and raise the speed until the driver begins losing control.
  2. Keep the water and speed active, then tilt the chassis so the stream hits the driver rather than the road.
  3. After the diagram is damaged, peel the small red sticker to reveal the extra control. Enable the boost, move the surviving weapon or cannon selector into its destructive state, and shift the remaining chassis control left. The jammed vehicle finishes breaking itself apart.

The exact artwork on the diagram changes as panels tear away. Use the driver, water stream, and damage animation as confirmation; do not restore a switch just because an earlier phase used it.

The Women’s House and Apartment 51 are people-routing puzzles

In the first city district, walk left until Felix comments on the painting and loudspeaker. A paper plane then points him to the Women’s House, the numbered building marked 24. Open all four shutters and attempt the stairs. The failed climb, dropped plant, cleaner, and ground-floor worker must all appear before the building controls become useful.

Slide the yellow third floor to the right and turn the right chimney so it connects the lower floor to it. Use the right base control to send smoke upward. The resident calls for help, and the worker leaves the staircase. Take the staircase while the rescue animation is active.

Two residents still block the climb. Extend the sunbather’s floor to the right; when she walks outside, slide it back so she drops to the ground-floor roof and meets the worker. Then extend the yellow floor again and use the left base control to release water. The cleaner moves to the leak, leaving the stairs open. Climb to the fourth-floor apartment.

After the three elders reveal what they know about Rachel, police enter and Felix hides in the piano. Interact with the room objects so the officers keep redirecting their attack. Save the clock until the room has been disturbed; its fall gives Felix the opening to leave.

The rooftop escape spells out its interactions. Remove both bolts from T, roll O back and forth until it drops, untie N, and peel the bandage from E. When the police reverse the clothesline, alternate between the upper and lower cable so Felix uses the rotation instead of being pulled back.

Apartment 51 is a four-state wall rather than one large picture puzzle. First make every tile match the plain grey wall and save that state. Do the same with the blue wall. The two red states are rooms: one must read as a bathroom with toilet, sink or mirror, and dryer chair; the other must read as a kitchen. Align the round connectors across adjacent tiles before saving either red layout.

Once all four buttons exist, use this reaction chain:

  1. Select the blue state and use the loudspeaker until the man takes two bottles: one reaches the floor and one stays on the television.
  2. Select the bathroom state. The woman moves the television bottle through the toilet and then uses the hair equipment, changing the loudspeaker tile.
  3. Use the changed loudspeaker so the couple swaps roles.
  4. Return to blue so the woman takes another bottle, then select the kitchen. Her reaction removes the cable and drops the vent cover, opening Felix’s exit.

If a character repeats an old action, confirm that you pressed the saved room button before the loudspeaker. The command acts on the active wall state, not the room you intended to select.

The corridor, parade, and prison turn movement into a clock

When the television exposes Felix, hide behind the plant and use the corridor loudspeakers from left to right. Each command moves the cleaner and forces the guards to yield another floor square. The final loudspeaker around the upper corner pulls them beyond the elevator sightline. Call the elevator only after the last guard has committed to that movement.

The parade vehicle has two records: one chooses plus or minus, and the other chooses a machine function. Stop the vehicle with the blue gear and minus state, then lower the red megaphone arm until it detaches. Use speed changes to unbalance the officer above: accelerate, slow down when he drops into the chimney, then accelerate again. The yellow suction function removes the remaining officer when you pull him in and reverse it to throw him out.

The next district elevator introduces beam boards. The artwork matters more than a typed sequence: rotate a reflector until the incoming color reaches the next required lane, use a splitter only where the board expects multiple squares, and recombine those squares before the exit when the target shows a single output. A board is complete when its path changes color and control advances automatically. If the final segment is dark, trace backward from that segment rather than moving the source.

After meeting the elders again, continue to the blue restroom. The police capture is intentional; keep using the toilet controls until the arrest sequence begins. In the cell, wait for Felix to sleep and finish the short bird dream. The bird at the round window then helps release the ceiling cable.

The prison escape needs two platform layouts. First rotate the broken walkways until they form a path from Felix to the lever on the left; the route turns yellow when connected. Move only after the spotlight has passed, pull the lever, and let the light reverse direction. Return to the start, rotate the walkways into a route toward the lower stairs, and again move immediately after the beam sweeps past. Being spotted does not teach a new route, so timing is safer than rushing several corners at once.

The wrench route makes the plumber’s house betray its owner

Back in the district, speak to the elders and inspect the red restroom. Rotate it until the shell collapses and exposes the water pipe. Felix cannot enter while it is running. The nearby poster identifies the worker with the needed wrench; take the elevator back to the first district and enter the plumber building on the right.

The six outer houses are a matching board. Use the rotating center house as the template, noting both shape and surface texture, and set each surrounding face to the corresponding state. The ladder appears only when all six positions agree; there is no safe universal word code for this visual arrangement.

Inside the plumber’s house, work by subsystem:

  1. Rotate the house to find the rear red button and reveal the sleeping plumber. Block the chimney until the pressure opens the attic, then connect the loose tube to the blue port.
  2. When smoke splits the house, pull the debris from the center until the crank appears. Open the ground-floor panel and use the water control to rejoin the structure.
  3. Pull the neighbor’s yellow trousers down near the wet floor. Her reaction clears a side of the machine.
  4. Use the front red disc to align its pin with the plumber’s side, reveal the bedroom again, and pull the crank so the rescue crew arrives.
  5. Send smoke toward the rescuers. Once their net catches them, rotate both house halves until the red pipes form one line and position the plumber on that line.
  6. Pull the red pipe plug. The pressure removes the plumber and leaves the wrench for Felix.

Return to the collapsed restroom, shut the water with the wrench, and enter the pipe.

Scrap, dancers, and paperwork build one access route

The pipe reaches a construction area rather than the Avant-Garde Quarter. Four movable assemblies provide everything needed to cross: a bowl, motor, drill, and wooden box. Connect the bowl to the motor, then the motor to the drill. Use the powered drill on the right electrical box. Move the bowl to that box and ignite it.

Take the drill left and remove the fasteners from the upper pipe, exposing the blower below. Put the burning bowl beside the blower and the wooden box beside the flame so the box becomes a light platform. Lower the blower, move the platform over it, then activate the air. The inflated platform lifts Felix to the far pipe.

Official Phonopolis screenshot of Felix watching three dancers in the Avant-Garde Baths
The baths are solved by matching movement and musical feedback, not by entering a permanent numeric code.

At the baths, the organ pipes alter three dancers. The story goal is to fill the bath and make the routine produce the appropriately sized outfit. Treat each dancer as a separate round: find the movement that synchronizes the trio, let the water and costume animation finish, then repeat after the central dancer changes. The exact pipe positions are visual and orientation-dependent, but the synchronized pose and rising water provide an unambiguous success signal. The final blast sends an outfit to Felix’s pipe.

The outfit is only half the admission requirement. Enter the Phonnobureau route in the Bureaucratic Quarter and use its three colored door controls to move Felix through the surveillance maze toward the BYRO sign. Press the color of the next closed barrier, wait until Felix crosses it, then prepare the following barrier. Guides disagree on a permanent color string, so read the current doors instead of memorizing an external sequence.

At the bureau, take Felix’s photo and send the file to the red worker. Move it onward to wake the grey worker. Rotate the office so grey is above blue and trigger the grey stamp; that reaction frees the blue worker. Put the file on blue’s table in line with the water pipe, then use blue’s stapler to break the pipe. Rotate blue above yellow so the water restores yellow’s tongue. Once all four stations can act, send the file through red, grey, blue, yellow. The completed pass returns to Felix.

The canteen is an object-transfer puzzle, not a recipe guess

Insert the pass at the Avant-Garde entrance. The projector bulb breaks, so cross to the yellow canteen. Take a meal from the conveyor, go upstairs, and sit at the last table below the round window. When Felix finishes, the loudspeaker sends the cleaner and her cart to the table. Climb the cart into the cooking machine room.

Official Phonopolis screenshot of the three-level cooking machine
The cooking machine transfers ingredients vertically: two corkscrews move the frozen block, while the mitt and pudding create a safe path for the bulb.

The wall warning says not to put the sausage into the sauce tube. Do exactly that: expose both devices and feed the sausage into the tube. Retraction builds pressure and ejects the old bulb. It breaks, causing workers to install a replacement. Do not eject that replacement until the landing system is ready.

Open the question-mark panel on the middle level and read the pudding recipe. Then build the cushion:

  1. Open the bottom freezer and use the middle corkscrew to remove the fish.
  2. Expose the milk bottle on the middle level and open it with the top corkscrew. Pour the milk into the empty freezer and let it solidify.
  3. Use the middle corkscrew to lift the frozen block, hand it to the top corkscrew, and lower it into the mold on the middle level.
  4. Add the mix from the upper level, then rotate the bottom level to the flame and cook it. The mold can now produce pudding.
  5. Place the oven mitt on the upper landing position, a pudding in the center middle position, and sauce on the conveyor plate below.

Trigger the jammed upper tube to eject the replacement bulb into the mitt. Use the mitt so the bulb bounces from the pudding into the plate instead of the floor. The conveyor carries it into the canteen, where Felix can collect it. Version 1.0.4 specifically fixed the cookbook not closing and canteen NPC clipping; if either state fails on an older build, update before repeating the whole recipe.

The Avant-Garde ascent uses clouds, platforms, and audience states

Return to the lobby, remove the broken bulb, and install the new one. Four more beam boards activate the elevator. Their target is the same as the earlier set: maintain a continuous energized route to the marked output. Work from the dead output backward and preserve any split that already reaches a valid lane.

Official Phonopolis screenshot of the upper city and Leader vehicles
The upper district replaces a locked door with an exhaust-and-weather machine: connect three cars, build the cloud, charge it, then send it back to the tower.

In the upper quarter, connect the Leader’s black car to the left exhaust pipes. Pull the hidden red car into place and open the upper-right garage from its lower edge to release the yellow car; connect both. Use the paired controls to make a smoke cloud. Turn the lower-right crank counterclockwise until the cloud sits over the yellow generator, then pull the upper-right control until the cloud becomes dark and charged. Turn the crank clockwise to send the charged cloud back to the tower. Its strike opens the control panel and creates an entrance.

The platform stair has one repeatable rope route. Pull the second rope on the left, put the loose rod into the lowest platform, pull that same second-left rope twice, then pull the first rope on the right. The platforms form steps to the spiral stair without needing the lower pin.

In the ventilation area, Rachel’s cage responds to a melody carried through yellow connectors. Arrange the pieces so the gas crosses every sounding section before opening the valve. A continuous melody wakes Rachel; a silent joint means the piece immediately before it is misaligned. The Leader interrupts once the tune succeeds and drops Felix onto the public stage.

The stage is a set of audience-matching states:

  • Yellow audience: cycle every performer, including Felix, into yellow.
  • Red audience: use horn players at the sides and the suspended flute role to flip the upper performer, then make the remaining costumes red.
  • Orange-and-white audience: start with the suspended grey performer wearing the ruff, use the horn action to invert that costume, and return Felix and the side performers to their drum roles.
  • Grey audience: invert the suspended yellow performer with the horn action, then match the remaining performers to the grey state.

Wait for each audience group to begin celebrating before changing the next role. The visible costume transitions create several intermediate formations, but the goal is to satisfy the four crowd groups, not to memorize an arbitrary count of clicks.

The final Absolute Tone machine presents five beam boards with a different rule: do not route each color to an exit. Make the distinct melodies collide so they cancel. Start at the shortest pair of reachable beams, preserve that collision, and then redirect the remaining pieces toward the next clash. The machine loses another layer after each valid board. Completing the fifth board begins the final confrontation; there are no further playable puzzles after the collapse.

When a correct-looking state does not respond

  1. Check the version number in the Options menu. The current official boundary for this guide is 1.0.5.
  2. Let every character, sound, and machine animation finish. A room may ignore new input while its previous reaction is still running.
  3. Compare the last changed component with its feedback. A route that has not changed color or a melody with one silent joint is incomplete even when the overall shape looks close.
  4. Leave and re-enter the room when the game permits it. If the same required control remains inert, return through the chapter or checkpoint selection rather than replaying unrelated scenes first.
  5. For the baths, upper quarter, canteen, or cooking machine, verify the patch before treating a missing response as intended logic; those areas received official fixes in versions 1.0.3 and 1.0.4.

Route evidence and official media

The official Steam listing for Phonopolis supplied AppID 1206070, the May 20, 2026 launch date, Amanita Design’s developer and publisher credit, single-player feature data, and the four original screenshots used here. Official Steam announcements established the July 19 research cutoff and the changes in versions 1.0.3, 1.0.4, and 1.0.5. Amanita Design’s game page confirmed the studio destination. The route itself was reconciled from community guides and verified walkthrough references, then reorganized around dependencies and success signals; no third-party image, prose, or video appears in the article.
