The mountain rarely blocks Eugene with a conventional locked-door puzzle. Most stalls happen because the camera is on the wrong shutter setting, a photograph has not been offered to a Sacred Firebowl, or a conversation ended before the Field Notes were updated. This route follows those dependencies from the underpass to the summit and leaves collectible cleanup to a separate run.
Spoiler warning: every chapter, late-game location, and major identity reveal appears below. The route was checked on July 19, 2026. SIGONO’s April 27 major update added manual saves at Sacred Firebowls, a Load Game screen, post-completion chapter selection, second-playthrough photo and Notebook carryover, and double confirmation before scene-changing interactions. Install the current update before using older advice about chapter-only autosaves.

Use each Firebowl as a decision checkpoint
Save when you reach a Sacred Firebowl, then do four things before moving to the next story gate:
- Inspect nearby objects for Seeds and photograph anything that produces a named album entry.
- Open the Field Notes. Fill every sentence that can be completed and attach any new page or mural photograph.
- Ask the flame every available question. A request for a person or place usually expects a photograph already filed in the album.
- Talk to Ren and each Spirit again after the flame responds. Several routes advance only after the new photograph, item, or memory has changed their dialogue.
The camera dial is easiest to read as the number shown by the interface. Use 3 for dark or fading stationary subjects, 125 for a subject that needs a faster exposure, and the exact values named later for the Nightwaters sequence. A ground-level camera symbol marks the intended shooting position. If the subject never highlights, move back to that mark before changing anything else.
The prologue ends when the loop becomes a rescue
Photograph the butterfly and the deer during young Eugene’s scenes. The six reflective choices across the opening affect the EV achievements, but mixed answers do not stop the story. In the car at age 40, inspect the visible objects, answer the phone, and interact with the stereo in the underpass.
After the crash, leave the car, take the Dried Seeds from the statue, and keep walking even when the underpass repeats. The loop ends at a wall; follow the blue butterfly from there to the child in the puddle. Once the Shade appears, run through the tunnel and forest toward the blue light rather than searching the side paths. In the water-filled interlude, collect the Field Notes from the table and follow the butterfly up the stairs. Waking in the forest starts Chapter 1.
The first two photographs open the road and the station
Climb through the forest overlook, descend to the sleeping girl, and choose to help her. Carry her until the deer appears with the camera. Photograph the deer, place the print into the Notes, complete the line with Prisma, and show the finished photograph back to the deer.
At the Abandoned Factory, inspect the interior before speaking to Ren. Photograph the Firebowl and offer that image to the flame to receive the map. Leave through the rear opening, follow the damaged railing, and speak to Ren twice near the upper side of the building. The apparent rock wall is the Ox. Continue around the railing until a camera mark gives you a full view of it, take the shot, and present the print. Finish the conversation by asking about the Nameless City; the Ox then clears the route toward the station.
The station puzzle has three parts:
- Complete the Ox entries in the Notes before collecting more clues.
- Photograph the fading dog from the marked platform, show it the result, and keep talking until it asks for tickets.
- Photograph the golden flowers by the station window and the old vending machine on the platform. Offer both to the Firebowl to receive two tickets.
Give the tickets to the dog and sit on the bench. After Ren chooses her name and the train arrives, the dreamlike road returns. Spend a Seed at its Firebowl, attach the page it gives you, and interact with the Ox, deer, and dog photographs along the road. Speak to the deer and Ox at the far end to return to the train.

The train teaches the three kinds of camera check
When Ren moves to another carriage, update the Notes with He’s buried under the factory and Tell the Seer to go back home. Photograph useful posters as you pass them, speak to Ren in the final carriage, and exhaust the elderly goat’s questions.
Ask the train Firebowl how to remove the Shade’s scent. The requested subject is the Seer statue beside Ren’s carriage. Photograph it, trade that image for Fadelight Embershine Tea, and give the tea to Ren. Return to the goat and conductor so the journey can resume.
During the attack, the first opening is through the window opposite the dog. Photograph the Shade, then follow it as it changes sides. Later shots count only while its mouth is open and the pale photograph-like space is visible inside. Do not spray the shutter at its body; track the mouth and take one deliberate frame each time it exposes the target.
After the derailment and memory sequence, photograph the Seer statue and the Embershine field. Offer the statue image to the nearby Firebowl to obtain the Shutter Dial. Set the dial to 3, look beside the statue for the fading goat, and take the photograph when it resolves. Showing that print restores the goat.
Carry Ren back to the conductor, finish the goat’s conversation, and accept the ride. During the travel interlude, speak to Eugene, Ren, and the goat until the night transition occurs. The next dream path is linear: inspect each photograph, follow the memories, and talk to the goat at the end.
The abandoned village trades a portrait for the next guide
Carry Ren after waking. The direct route is broken, so use the tilted platform to cross the stacked timber. Find the boar conductor and dog, speak to both, then make a portrait of the conductor. Offer that portrait at the tent Firebowl; it returns a gift. Give the gift to the conductor and drink it at the small table near the cliff.
The drink opens another memory passage. Follow the Embershine petals, inspect the photographs of Phil and Jean, and speak to their Spirit forms. Returning to the tracks summons the white horse and closes Chapter 2.
The Nameless City route turns on two different exposures
Follow the horse through the underpass and turn right to climb into the city. Speak to the otter on the main route, then check the left alley for a pangolin and a Seer statue. The house at the end of the road is locked. Back away, descend the steps, and take the right-hand alley to the ruined building where the bear waits.
Set the camera to 3 for the faded bear, show it the portrait, and follow it through the previously locked house. After the bear describes two missing friends, restore them separately:
- Near the first Spirit, set the dial to 125 and release the shutter when the interface gives its timing cue.
- Return to the narrow alley for the pangolin. Use 3, show the portrait, and use the third name choice when the Notes support it.
Back at the gathering, speak to every Spirit before touching the Firebowl. Offer the portraits it requests, accept the special bottle, and complete the party dialogue. Stand in the middle of the group when Ren takes the shared photograph. That image, the Forgotten Cafe, is needed at the theater.

The theater needs the cafe, the plaque, and one shared frame
Climb from the city to the Seer Theater and meet the white horse inside. The second-floor Firebowl solves two separate problems. Offer Forgotten Cafe when asking how to see in the darkness; the reward is the Focus Ring. Photograph the green plaque above the first-floor screen and offer that when asking how to see the horse; the reward is the Unicorn Dream film.
Load the reel into the projector. Back up until the projected unicorn and the Spirit can both fit inside one composition, then take the shot while she faces Eugene. Show her that photograph. When the route turns dark, carry Ren and follow the purple butterflies rather than the edge of the path. At the crib mobile, set the dial to 3 and photograph the mobile. The butterfly appears at a distance; capture it before approaching.
The valley fish opens what the bridge cannot
The broken bridge is not repaired. Turn left and descend to the ruined kitchen and the door tangled in trees. After Ren’s scene, look through the window for the fish Spirit. Use 125, show the first portrait, then follow the fish to the next ruined house. Photograph it again through the window, present that image, and repeat the interaction at the blocked door. Once the fish remembers itself, it removes the trees.
The Shade catches Eugene later as part of the story. Follow the photographs through the cabin memory and speak to the deer, then keep moving when the escape resumes. At the railway line, stop running long enough to face the Shade. The valid target is the starry view inside its open mouth. A successful photograph clears the way into the tunnel and ends Chapter 3.
The cabin darkroom has one safe chemical order
After the tunnel, use 3 for dark exterior photographs. Grandpa’s cabin is locked from the front; enter through the door around the right-hand side, explore the rooms, and unlock the main entrance from inside. Try the uphill path, return when the fog thickens, and follow Ren back to the television.
Inside the distorted cabin, the camera has no film. Work through the Ox, unicorn, bear, and cafe photographs instead. The front door loops, but a side door eventually opens into the darkroom. Use the enlarger, leave the room, and speak to the deer outside the right window for a film roll. The enlarger then produces two undeveloped images.
Process each print in this order:
- Develop
- Stop
- Fix
- Rinse
Choosing the chemicals out of order can trigger a short failure ending. Finish both photographs correctly to reach the Nightwaters.
The Nightwaters puzzle changes exposure halfway through
Do not walk directly into the fog at the start. Turn around, move right into the ruined house, and follow the Embershine petals from memory to memory. The petals eventually enter the fog safely. Wait for visibility to return and collect the camera.
Ask the Firebowl how to locate Ren. It needs two prints: the blurred image of Eugene carrying her and Face in the Frame. The flame produces an Ashen Shadow. Step away, set the dial to 30, wait until the silhouette is lit, and photograph it. When it becomes fully gold, change the dial to 1000 and take the second frame. Those two exposures break the illusion and recover Ren.
During Ren’s Great Flow sequence, follow the purple light until the scene completes. There is no alternate navigation puzzle hidden in the darkness.
The final chase pays off every restored Spirit
At the summit approach, take the downhill-left path to the bear and accept the bicycle. When the Shade catches up, select the bike. Let the Spirits indicate the safe direction, avoid the rocks, and raise the camera whenever the Shade seals the road. As on the train, photograph the opening in its mouth rather than its outer body.
The chase reaches the factory and a shared dream. Carry Ren, speak to the deer, wait for the fog, and follow the petals. The deer gives you the protective charm. When the Ox provides the next path, cross its body while avoiding the landslides. At the tunnel entrance, take the group photograph when prompted.
Inside the tunnel, open the Field Notes and complete the Spirit sentences from the conversations gathered throughout the game. At the fallen sign, continue into the dark. Use the protective charm at the red lake, cross the flooded route, and follow the petals whenever the summit disappears in fog. After the final climb, pick Ren up before walking to the Golden Horizon. The last photographic decision belongs to the ending route; make a manual save at the nearest available Firebowl if you want to compare outcomes.
When progress stops, identify the missing dependency
| What you see | What to check |
|---|---|
| A Spirit stays transparent | Return to the ground camera mark, use the exposure requested by the scene, and wait for the highlight or timing cue. |
| The Firebowl has no useful answer | Photograph the named place, statue, person, or object first; then select that exact album entry at the flame. |
| The next character does not move | Open the Notes, fill available blanks, attach new pages, and repeat the character’s dialogue after the update. |
| The city looks like a locked dead end | Descend from the locked house and take the side alley to the ruined building and bear. |
| The theater remains dark | Trade Forgotten Cafe for the Focus Ring; the green plaque solves the separate film-reel request. |
| The Nightwaters silhouette does not resolve | Use 30 while it is dim, then 1000 only after it turns gold. |
| A chase repeats after a rescue | Reload the current manual save if protecting a no-rescue achievement; otherwise listen to the hint and target the mouth opening. |
The official Steam record identifies AppID 1947910, developer SIGONO INC., publisher SHUEISHA GAMES, and 39 current achievements. The official game site confirms the April 16 global release wording and supported platforms. The route itself was reconciled across the five readable Into Indie Games parts and three detailed Steam player guides; warning-banner Steam guides were treated only as cross-checks. Unsupported trainer claims, fabricated bond thresholds, and the incorrect 40/42-achievement counts were excluded.
