A closed door in Gecko Gods rarely means that you missed a key. More often, one circuit is still dark, a bell has not registered, a mirror is pointed at the wrong receiver, or the game expects you to finish a different island before returning. The safest route is to read those dependencies instead of forcing every temple the moment you can see it.
Evidence boundary (July 19, 2026): the route follows the base story from the opening caves through the three sleeping gods and the Volcano escape, then separates the optional Forgotten Cove content added in update 1.2905. Hotfix 2939, released July 9, is the current official progression boundary used for stuck-save advice below.

Read the archipelago as six linked jobs
The world looks free-form after you obtain the boat, but the main progression has a dependable spine:
- Escape the opening caves and ring four gongs to wake the Great Water Gecko.
- Use the boat to solve Singing Peaks, Ancient Hill, and Sailing Isle.
- Raise the four seals around the Volcano Temple gate.
- Redirect the Great Desert’s lighthouse network and descend through its two temple routes.
- Return to the Volcano, descend past the final light mechanism, awaken the fire god, and escape the rising lava.
- After the story, treat Forgotten Cove and its two neighboring tiny islands as an added exploration task, not as a missing base-game objective.
Use the objective text and the in-game Guide as your state check. A visible landmark is not proof that its final chamber is ready. The Volcano is the clearest example: you can work on its outer gate before the Desert sequence, but the story sends light back across the archipelago before the inner descent becomes the final route.
The opening teaches four different meanings of “connected”
At the first door, climb to the wall control, grab it, and pull it until the barrier clears. Ring the large gong inside to enter the Mysterious Caves. Behind the waterfall, the next locked door has two inputs: one beside the doorway and another overhead. Activate both while avoiding the crabs, then follow the lit passage to the lore room.
After the pipe-and-fence climb, four slabs assign the Water Gecko trials. Each gong uses a different kind of state change, so name the rooms by their behavior rather than trying to memorize identical-looking stone corridors.
Tower Gong: complete the ring line before dropping
Approach the tower from the stair side and follow every small yellow ring upward. The last ring stops the tower’s water flow. Only then should you descend through the drained interior and strike the gong at the bottom. If the gong chamber is still flooded, backtrack upward; dropping early does not replace a missed ring.
Gauntlet Gong: follow the water downward three times
The three collapsing slabs lead to the first drain control. Once the lower route appears, stay close to the right-hand wall and use the waterwheel area to reach the second control. The third sits beyond the rising platform and the crab group. After that final drain, ride the platform, take the small opening, and ring the gong. The useful diagnostic is the water level: if the next route is submerged, the preceding control did not hold.
Cathedral Gong: energize the branches before the hub
Rotate the gate far enough to create a crawl space. Inside, trace each cable away from the central hub. One branch is available along the wall; another rises to the upper floor; the last becomes usable only after you stop the water. Return to the hub when all three lines are lit, pass through the released door, and strike the Cathedral Gong.
Bathhouse Gong: distinguish rotation from drainage
The first wheel changes how platforms and wires align; it does not finish the room. Build the electrical path, open the next door, and use the new route to reach the upper drain control. The final gong appears only after the bathhouse empties. A side lever near the pillar also exposes an optional relic, but that collectible is not required to wake the Water Gecko.
When all four gongs are registered, the central elevator rises to the Great Water Gecko. Interact with the statue, pass through the opening that appears, and rotate the boat-door control until its circle is fully lit.
Clear the three teaching islands before judging the Volcano
The boat gives you room to wander. For a clean first playthrough, solve the three compact islands before spending time on the largest temples. They teach the navigation patterns that the Volcano and Desert later combine.
Singing Peaks: five bells, then one hidden control
One bell lies beyond the northern bridge. Another is tucked behind the large waterfall on the southeast side. From that waterfall, move toward the neighboring high rock for a third bell, then cross the upper wooden bridge to the junction that leads to the remaining two. The fifth ring opens a concealed doorway. Rotate the control inside that doorway to make the island count as finished; hearing all five bells without using the final control is not enough.
Ancient Hill: solve the picture, not a memorized move list
Two exterior sliding pictures power the paired towers and open the inner room. The larger eight-piece board inside is the real check. Its starting arrangement is not reliable enough for one universal sequence, so identify the visual outlier and cycle pieces through the empty space until every edge joins. Wait for the floor to open, use the control below, and climb out without dashing off the narrow wall.
Sailing Isle: the active ring is the direction marker
Start with the ring carrying the gold glow. Each successful pass reveals or activates the next part of the course around the island. Do not cut toward a dormant ring merely because it is closer. Continue until the chamber opens, then use its control to validate the challenge.
The Volcano gate is four seals, not one long dungeon
Dock at the Volcano and locate the stairs to the first chamber. Passing through a sequence of golden circles raises sections of the floor. Seven activations eventually open the ceiling route to the first gate control. After using it, return to the group of five gecko statues; their slabs divide the remaining work into readable sub-objectives.

Dungeon Master: defeat each wave before searching for a switch
From the central statue group, circle toward the massive combat structure. Drop inside and clear the crab wave; the next compartment opens only after the enemies are gone. Repeat the pattern through the larger enemies until the control becomes reachable. Turn it to light the second statue. Searching the walls while a wave is active wastes time because the room itself is still locked.
Circuit Trouble: route the elevator before routing yourself
Sail through the five rings off the island’s southern edge to expose the circuit entrance. Inside, power the lower connection, rotate the upper wheel, and board the elevator promptly. The main room can join two of four directions at a time. An upper-left connection gets the lift route moving; breaking that circuit from the interior lets you ride higher. Use the upper rooms to send power toward the lower-right branch, return downstairs, and activate the two main endpoints. Follow the final lit line through the narrow side passage to the seal control.
If the lift comes to you but will not carry you where expected, inspect both ends of the line. One wheel calls the elevator; another determines which floor still receives power.
The Altar: enter from above and preserve the timer
The fenced entrance is a hint to climb over it. Use the ceiling opening, turn right to start the timed door, then drop to the lower level and cross before it closes. Beyond the spike room, activate the far-side connection. In the three-divinity chamber, set the right dial near 11 o’clock and the middle and left dials near 8 o’clock. Finish on the roof control. When all four outer seals are active, the Volcano gate opens, but the story is not yet ready for its last descent.
The Great Desert is one light path broken into four mirrors
Sail to the large northern desert island. Enter from the southwest stairs and climb the first lighthouse. Its platform should place the beam at a right angle to the next receiver. From this point, a broken beam is a better clue than the compass: start at the last bright mirror and trace the line forward until you find the dark mechanism.
First and second mirrors: move the light balls between gravity planes
At the first chamber, rotate the dispenser until it releases a light ball. Push the ball onto the glowing patterned wall so the room’s gravity carries it toward the socket. The raised mirror then sends the beam to the second lighthouse.
At the second route, expose the tower mirror and sweep its beam across all three blue receivers. In the ball chamber, open the left side of the basement, set the lower wheel near 6 o’clock to make the side exit, and return upstairs. Reconfigure the central opening, lower the ball, set the receiving wheel near 12 o’clock, and seat the ball in its socket.
Third and fourth mirrors: the bells open access; the dials restore the beam
The next outdoor control opens timed windows. Use it to enter and ring the first bell. A second bell is lower on the tower, a third sits in the small room beside the low ground, and the last is reached through the opening near the opposite stairs. Their chamber raises the remaining mirrors.
At the final lighthouse, the wall blocking the beam is controlled by a three-dial hub near the gecko statues. Power the hub first. Then set the right dial near 11 o’clock, the middle between 5 and 6, and the left between 4 and 5. One additional branch exposes a relic; it is useful for a 100% run but is not the line that opens the temple. Return to the lighthouse and aim the restored beam at the large crystal.
Inside the Desert Temple, track the ball before changing the room
The first interior ball must be released, caught by reversing the wheel at the right moment, and placed in the left socket. The route then divides into Soul Descent and Sand of Time.
For Soul Descent, drain the sand and use the exposed wheel to join rooms. Patterned walls move the light balls onto new planes. Before rotating a room, identify three things: the ball’s current surface, its next socket, and the wall that will carry it upward. Later, a ball must ride inside a rotating wheel before you drop it into the main chamber. Near the elevator, step on the floor control, redirect the beam into the blue receiver, and shuttle the final ball back through the opened route.
Sand of Time begins with three mirrors facing one receiver. A verified working alignment places the left control near 4 o’clock, the middle near 3, and the right near 2. That drains the next area. Complete the sliding picture, use the newly reachable upper mirrors to feed the large receiver, and interact with the slab that reveals the route under the stairs. The Great Desert Gecko sends the island beams back toward the Volcano.
The last Volcano visit is a descent followed by the same route in reverse
Follow the converged light through the open gate. At the bottom of the elevator, rotate the mirrors and main wheels until the beam reaches both gecko-eye receivers. The remaining rooms are an execution test rather than a new island search: lower the lava, use each switch or floor control before dropping, and watch for the control beneath the rotating blade.
After the spiked-wall section, interact with the Volcano Gecko and immediately treat the temple as an escape course. Reverse the descent, avoid the rising lava, and reach the elevator near the eye mechanism. The story completes after the three gods open the final way and you interact with the eggs.
Use the patch history before sacrificing a save
The official post-launch record names several progression faults that have existed since release: missing picture tiles, a shifting-maze lock, a Desert Temple elevator state error, corrupted lever rotations, Volcano elevator trouble, and missing islands after the escape. Hotfix 2939 specifically repaired the last of those on July 9.
- Update the game and confirm that the client includes Hotfix 2939 or later.
- Reload once, then inspect the nearest lit wire, objective slab, or receiver before repeating a long room.
- For a lever puzzle, return every dial to a clear endpoint and rebuild the connection from its power source.
- For a missing island after the Volcano, load the updated save and revisit the boat/map state before starting again.
- If the same door remains closed, record the objective name and the last control that lit; that identifies the failed state more precisely than “temple stuck.”
Forgotten Cove starts after the base route’s evidence boundary
Update 1.2905 added Forgotten Cove, Waterfall Cavern, Aquaduct, four relics, four insects, four rare skins, new puzzles, and more lore. Those additions expand exploration and 100% requirements, but they do not rewrite the three-god story route above. The readable official notes do not supply room-by-room solutions for the new island, so this article does not invent them. Use the updated Guide menu to confirm the three new map markers and handle their collectibles as post-story cleanup.
