Super Max is decided before Max reaches the first water valve. The final rescue run can save Noelle, Jeannette, Anthony the Poet, and the people inside the observatory, but it cannot repair the two investigations that decide whether Ren ignites the campus or Vinh destroys the Abraxas house. A full-survival run therefore has three phases: identify Ren and Vinh, keep Safi alive in the lighthouse, then carry the correct equipment through The Line of Fire.
Verification boundary: the released build and supporting guides were reviewed on July 20, 2026. The route targets the documented survivors Jeannette, Loretta, Noelle, Owen, Safi, Anthony, and Vinh, plus the sprinkler and evacuation state needed for the achievement. Major ending spoilers follow.

Lock in the two fire interventions first
Ren and Vinh create separate disasters. Stopping one does not stop the other, and neither accusation is replaced by a later timed action.
- Chloe’s Decision: inspect Ren’s backpack in the Snapping Turtle, talk to him, then use Pressure. A verified winning Backtalk line is I’ll tell Noelle (some histories display Amanda), Red paint can, and Daddy issues. Speak to Noelle outside and accuse Ren. In “Peaceful” Protest, Noelle then catches him before he starts the campus fire.
- Max’s Decision: complete the rewind interrogation with Yasmin and leave her office. When Max has to name the suspect tied to the Abraxas-house fire, choose Vinh. In Keeping Watch, Max can reach the house, confront him, and stop the explosion.
Preventing the campus fire protects Owen and Loretta without forcing the fallback library rescue. If Ren is not stopped, Loretta can be extracted by speaking to her through the library door, rewinding, taking the trophy-case key from Vinh’s desk, removing the trophy from the third shelf, and breaking the lock. That branch does not produce the clean all-survivor route documented for Owen, so it is a recovery path, not a Super Max plan.
Safi needs a consistent conversation, not a last-second guess
One stable setup is to tell Safi about the coming fire when Max confronts her and avoid naming Safi as the fire-starter. In the lighthouse sequence, Chloe must respond to Safi’s fear rather than contradict the relationship state built earlier. The repeatedly verified supportive route uses the following ideas in order:
- Lead with apology or empathy when the scene offers it.
- Choose Max loves you.
- Choose She told you about the fire.
- Recognize that Safi became lost in her powers or has been hurting since Maya died.
- Tell her that Max believes she can get better.
- End with the solidarity response, shown in one route as We’re also alive.
Exact middle lines can change with earlier Safi choices; a second documented route saves her after Max withheld information by remaining consistently skeptical rather than suddenly claiming perfect trust. Do not mix the two personalities mid-conversation. The reliable rule is continuity: acknowledge what this version of Max actually did, then give Safi a reason to leave with Chloe.

Safi drops a cigarette into a wastebasket during this sequence, so the observatory fire is treated as unavoidable by the consistent walkthrough evidence. Saving her and stopping Ren are different accomplishments: Ren’s campus fire can be prevented, while the observatory still becomes the final rescue space.
The Line of Fire begins with information, not a valve
As Max runs toward the observatory, read the poster board beside the stairs. It identifies Jeannette’s classroom location. Without that knowledge, Max cannot send Noelle to her even if the mask and valves are handled correctly.
After the custodian appears, enter the open utility room behind him and finish the whole room before leaving:
- Read the utility note.
- Turn on the breaker box for the sprinkler system.
- Operate the first valve.
- Take the gas mask.
- Take the normal wrench.
The note-and-breaker step is easy to miss because the objective language emphasizes valves. Community completion reports specifically identify the breaker as a missing Super Max flag, so do not assume the water route is powered just because a valve turns.
Use Noelle as the Jeannette rescue handoff
Leave the utility room and follow the path toward Noelle. Pass her temporarily and operate the red valve nearby. Collect the T-wrench from the route beyond it, then return to the conversation with both information and equipment secured.
Give Noelle the mask and explicitly tell her:
- Jeannette is in the classroom.
- Chloe and Moses are also inside the danger area.
The mask preserves Noelle; the poster-board knowledge lets her locate Jeannette. Doing only one saves neither branch reliably. Earlier encouragement during photography class may alter their context, but the late poster and the direct warning are the reproducible rescue gates confirmed by the strongest walkthroughs.
Open all three valves and keep the normal wrench
The three controls use two tools and are spread across the route:
- Utility-room valve: the first control near the mask and normal wrench.
- Path valve near Noelle: operate it before or after the mask conversation and collect the T-wrench.
- Buried valve beyond the fountain: use the T-wrench on the ground-level control toward the police-car side.
Do not discard the normal wrench mentally after taking the T-wrench. At the glass-fronted building entrance, swing the ordinary wrench to announce an escape route to Anthony the Poet. The valves protect the observatory; this separate door action saves a person in another building. Continue left and let the story pull Max back toward Chloe and Moses.
Map each survivor to the flag that protects them
| Person | Required state | Failure signal |
|---|---|---|
| Owen | Chloe accuses Ren; Noelle intercepts him | Campus fire begins |
| Loretta | Campus fire prevented on the full route | Library rescue branch becomes necessary |
| Vinh | Max accuses Vinh and reaches Abraxas house | House explosion proceeds |
| Safi | Consistent supportive lighthouse dialogue | She will not leave with Chloe |
| Noelle | Receive the utility-room mask | Smoke exposure |
| Jeannette | Poster board read; location given to Noelle | No Jeannette dialogue option |
| Anthony | Front-door glass broken with normal wrench | Evacuation route never announced |
The result is verified in the Snapping Turtle scene after the fire. Wall of Heroes is the clean success state; a memorial means at least one condition failed. Super Max is documented to unlock there rather than at the instant the third valve turns.
The final photo changes the montage after survival is settled
In Partners in Time, move the shirt beside the television, read Moses’s letter, and decide whether Chloe burns the surviving Polaroid or gives it to Max. Multiple ending walkthroughs reproduce four combinations based on two variables: whether everyone survived and what Chloe does with that photo.
With everyone alive, burning the photo closes off Max’s temptation to use it, while giving it to her lets the montage address that temptation directly. If someone died, handing over the photo creates a more dangerous possibility that Max will try to change the past again. One published guide instead claims an invisible Rewind-usage meter and three named final commands, but that account conflicts with the reproducible photo-and-survival structure and was not used here.
If you want to compare the two full-survival montages, keep a manual save before moving the shirt or reading the letter. That experiment does not require repeating the accusation and valve route.
