Machine Mind Walkthrough: Build the Route to the Rocket

A combat rover firing on an armored tower in Machine Mind

The shortest route through Machine Mind is not a straight drive toward the next marker. It is a chain of handoffs: get the Mind Module out of danger, make the base operate without constant manual hauling, turn the Wasteland Rumble’s parts into access to the Observatory, convert the first scarce Alloy into repeatable production, and only then carry Oracle through Daedalus to the winter rocket. Skip one handoff and the next biome looks impossibly expensive.

A combat rover firing on an armored tower in Machine Mind

This route was checked on July 20, 2026 against Steam AppID 2861590 and the released Update 1.1.1. The March walkthrough references describe the campaign from the crash to the rocket, but Update 1.1.0 changed the calendar, difficulty settings, filter automation, construction controls, and several quality-of-life rules. The current client wins every conflict: the boss now arrives on Day 10, the first ordinary base raid is on Day 20, and resource income, damage taken, and raider numbers vary with difficulty.

There is one more important limit. On June 25 the developer still listed clearer rocket-power instructions and protection against an Oracle quest softlock as future work. Treat the quest log and live highlights as state checks, keep the game’s backup saves, and do not force a module into a story slot before the matching objective is active.

Three states decide whether the campaign can move

Before following any long-distance marker, ask which of these three states is missing:

  • Control: Is the Mind Module safe in the Mind Repository, and can you switch to the rover that has the required tool?
  • Supply: Can the base replace what this trip consumes—filters, repair scrap, Alloy, Fuel, and later Plasma—or are you spending finite scavenged stock?
  • Access: Does the rover carry the exact module or weapon that opens the destination, rather than merely enough damage to reach it?

The campaign repeatedly tests access after a combat gate. The Observatory wants construction resources after its turrets fall. Daedalus wants the Mind Module, the Oracle Module, and Combat Plasma Cutters after the toxin crossing. The rocket wants access codes, a narrow power state, filled Fuel tanks, and the Unstable Mind Module. A stronger gun cannot replace any of those requirements.

Crash site to a base that can survive without you

At the opening wreck, mount the Mind Module on the nearby rover in the Editor and empty the ship storage before driving away. The starting base is northeast of the crash. It contains disabled infrastructure and spare rovers, but the first real puzzle is generator coverage: place a Wind Generator so both the Locator and Repair Shop sit inside its powered radius. Deliver their requested materials, then use a rover carrying the construction module to finish the structures.

Do not strip the neighborhood at random. Make three purposeful loops:

  1. Use loose rubble and low-risk containers to restore the Repair Shop and Locator.
  2. Take storage modules from the idle rovers when cargo capacity, rather than combat, is stopping progress.
  3. Follow the second-crash-site objective before attacking a fortified raider camp. The official survival notes identify that wreck as the early answer to the Electronics shortage.

Research and build the Mind Repository as soon as the base can support it. Move the Mind Module into the repository; that releases the player from one cramped carrier and enables switching between rovers. Open the bot panel with Tab and put otherwise idle machines to work as collectors or diggers. The goal is not perfect automation. It is to stop spending every daylight trip on basic scrap while the Day 10 boss clock continues.

A fortified Machine Mind base with resource storage and powered structures

Build a Workbench and at least one practical weapon before widening the base. Keep the Mind Repository inside overlapping protection rather than at the edge of generator range. Losing an ordinary rover is recoverable; losing the repository ends the run. Update 1.1.0 added a turret-range display on F6, so use the live circles to remove blind approaches instead of estimating coverage from the model.

The Day 10 boss is a positioning check, not a damage race

Old launch routes place the Wasteland Rumble on Day 8. That date is obsolete. Update 1.1.0 moved the boss to Day 10 and the first normal assault on the base to Day 20. It also autosaves before raiders spawn. Use the additional time to build a defended lane and a repairable combat rover, not to scatter turrets around every storage pile.

The Wasteland Rumble carries forward guns and a homing launcher. Missile impact circles tell you when to leave a patch of ground; sustained frontal fire tells you to cross its aim rather than reverse down the same line. Draw the vehicle away from the Repository, let overlapping base turrets work, and attack during the pause after its long burst. Terrain that breaks the boss’s firing line is worth more than another exposed storage building.

If a rover is disabled, switch through the Mind Repository instead of trying to salvage modules in the kill zone. A spare machine can recover the weapon only after the boss has been pulled elsewhere. The fight becomes unrecoverable when every armed rover and the repair route occupy the same threatened space.

Winning provides the Oracle Module and valuable combat parts. Store Oracle near the protected center for now. The weapon rewards are not trophies; they are the first efficient tools for dismantling the defenses around the Observatory one target at a time.

Open the Observatory by making each attack permanent

The Locator at the Observatory is protected by tall turrets and mobile enemies. Do not treat the camp as one mandatory battle. Approach until a single tower commits, use cover, withdraw below a safe health threshold, repair, and return. Destroyed defenders do not recover their lost health between sorties, so every clean retreat converts repair scrap into permanent map progress.

Keep the random targeting of the recovered launcher in mind. It can soften a facility from range, but it is a poor tool when a precise tower must fall before a rover can enter. Pair it with a controllable forward weapon, and stop a sortie when the repair cost threatens the stock reserved for reconstructing the Observatory itself.

After the perimeter is quiet, inspect the dome-shaped storage structures inside the compound. The launch route places enough of the repair materials in that facility to finish the Locator without hauling the full bill across the map. The on-site construction silhouette is the authoritative current checklist. Deliver everything it requests, bring a construction rover, and complete the build. The resulting objective sends Oracle toward Daedalus behind a force field.

Cross the Alloy bottleneck without consuming the last supply

Daedalus lies in the contaminated factory region to the east. A rover without filtration takes environmental damage, so research the Airlock Filter before attempting a loot run. The temporary filter communicates its condition through its light: green is healthy, yellow is a warning, and red means the unit has reached the end of its useful life. Bring a replacement instead of planning a long retreat on a nearly depleted filter.

Current automation is simpler than the launch guides describe. Since Update 1.1.0, a bot does not need a bound blueprint just to replace a depleted filter; it can use a replacement available in Module Storage. This helps workers assigned to the region, but it does not rescue a manually controlled rover that is far from the supply network. The permanent Membrane Filter Cabin remains the safer choice for repeated factory travel once it is researched.

The first Alloy creates a circular dependency: advanced production needs an AI Processor, but the processor itself consumes the material you are trying to produce. Break it in this order:

  1. Use a filtered, armed rover to loot smaller factory containers. Avoid the large armored turrets until the rover has the weapon power to leave safely.
  2. Build the AI Processor and finish the Smelter and Membrane Filter Cabin research that depends on it.
  3. If the remaining Alloy cannot complete the Smelter, dismantle the processor only after the required research has finished. Verify the current refund in the Editor before committing.
  4. Build the Smelter, feed it Scrap, Ore, and Fuel, then rebuild the AI Processor from repeatable output.

Patch 1.0.4 reduced Alloy requirements for several structures, and difficulty now changes resource income. That is why a fixed “collect exactly this much” schedule is brittle. The durable rule is to convert the first cache into production before spending it on reinforced walls or optional weapons.

Fuel scavenged from wasteland facilities is also finite. Start a Fuel Reactor chain in the factory biome: Chemicals come from chemical deposits, Oil comes from captured rigs or a drill placed on a scanned deposit, and the reactor combines those inputs into Fuel. Add Fuel Storage before the line saturates. A Fueler bot can move the product; Update 1.1.1 specifically fixed cases involving full tanks and excess Fuel, but the issue panel is still the quickest way to spot a stalled route.

Build the Daedalus rover around one doorway

The Daedalus shield is not a generic damage check. It requires Combat Plasma Cutters. Do not confuse them with the Torch Plasma Cutter used to dismantle abandoned machines. Mount three combat cutters so all three can strike the same point at once, then solve the power and heat problem around that firing geometry.

A practical carrier has three forward weapon positions, enough generation for simultaneous fire, filtration for the crossing, and cargo space for both story modules. If a recipe reports that it needs a manipulator, mount a Claw Module on the player rover or give the equipped machine the Worker role so it can handle the production task. Read live power use from the module panel; balance changes make an old wattage list less reliable than the red or cleared power warnings in the current Editor.

Load both the ordinary Mind Module and Oracle before leaving. The Mind grants entry to the base; Oracle belongs in the internal story slot. A rover that reaches Daedalus with three plasma weapons but leaves either module at home has completed only the combat half of the trip.

Do not seat Oracle until the quest state is ready

At Daedalus, keep the cutters aligned until the force field drops, then enter through the intended opening. Locate the square Oracle receptacle, but pause before inserting the module. The developer’s June 25 roadmap says the Oracle-base progression can still softlock when Oracle is inserted too early.

The safest evidence-bounded sequence is:

  1. Confirm the active objective explicitly points to Daedalus and the Oracle interaction.
  2. Break the field normally and move the Mind Module through the entrance.
  3. Repair the rover, clear its retreat path, and confirm the game has created a recent save or backup.
  4. Insert Oracle only after the receptacle is the live objective.
  5. Defeat the ambushing vehicles, remain at the base, and let Oracle’s activation countdown and dialogue finish before leaving or loading another save.

If the quest does not advance, do not keep moving Oracle between unrelated structures. Reload the pre-insertion backup and repeat the intended entry sequence. A March bug involving a reload after Oracle’s timer was fixed in Update 1.0.6, but the later roadmap shows that the broader progression explanation was not considered finished as of June 25.

When the conversation completes, Oracle identifies the winter rocket and provides heating equipment. The ordinary Mind Module returns with the player; Oracle can remain at Daedalus until the later access-code step.

Turn the toxin economy into a winter supply line

The frost biome punishes a different missing module. Without the heating generator supplied by Oracle—or the later heating cabin—a rover slows until it cannot move effectively. Armored winter turrets also survive the light weapons that were adequate around the starting base.

Before entering snow, make the following systems repeatable:

  • Fuel: enough production to power the rover and still fill the rocket tanks later.
  • Plasma: Lightning Rod collection during storms, protected by a nearby rover, followed by continuous production when the relevant research permits it.
  • Repair: a Repair Shop positioned near the biome boundary, not deep enough to need its own rescue operation.
  • Heat and generation: a heater plus sufficient generators for the chosen high-tier weapons.
Heated rovers fighting through the snowy biome in Machine Mind

A heavy four-platform rover can carry the necessary heat, generation, weapons, and storage, but the exact weapon pair is less important than the retreat test: can it destroy part of an armored emplacement, disengage, and reach the frontier Repair Shop before losing mobility? If not, add survivability or shorten the operating distance. Winter structures keep the damage already dealt, so deliberate repair cycles outperform one overloaded assault.

Recover the Unstable Mind Module before wiring the rocket

The blue objective in the winter region leads to a heavily defended facility containing a yellow, unstable Mind Module. Clear a corridor first; the story cargo reduces the room available for loot and may change how the rover is balanced. Carry that module back to Daedalus and exchange it at Oracle’s position to obtain the rocket access codes.

Only after the code exchange should the rocket become the main logistics project. This order matters because powering the pad early does not substitute for the codes, and hauling Fuel before the approach is secure exposes a resource that took an entire factory chain to produce.

Power the rocket inside the allowed band

The rocket objective wants between 250 and 500 power, not “at least 250.” Repair the step-down transformer near the pad and the related transformer at the unstable module’s facility, then connect generation through High-Voltage Towers. Two step-down devices each consume 250 power, so they can be used to bring an oversized grid back into the accepted band.

Geothermal generators across the wasteland can feed the line, while Wind or Nuclear generation can close a shortfall. Do not trust a historical generator-output estimate over the live network display. Update 1.1.0 added a white completed highlight when the rocket-power objective has been satisfied but the network later drifts outside the required range. If the door is closed, read the current total at the quest connection rather than adding another generator by reflex.

Once the power state is accepted, fill every Fuel tank connected to the rocket. Check the tanks themselves, not just the amount in remote base storage. A full warehouse does nothing if the final delivery route is restricted, stalled, or outside the working antenna network.

When the door opens but the Mind Module will not attach

The last interaction is easy to miss because the target sits inside the rocket. Bring the rover carrying the Unstable Mind Module to the open door, enter C mode, and zoom in as far as the camera permits. Look for the small internal platform rather than dragging the module onto the exterior shell. Move the module onto that platform and wait for it to snap into place.

This camera target comes from a readable Steam Community troubleshooting guide and is used only for that narrow interaction. Its uncertain Nuclear Plant output estimate is not used here. If the platform is absent, return to the state checks: accepted power, completed Fuel deliveries, access codes from Oracle, and the correct yellow Mind Module on the rover.

Read a stalled run by its failure signal

  • The base works only while you are present: move the Mind into its Repository, assign basic bot roles, and inspect Tab issues before expanding.
  • The Day 10 boss destroys storage while chasing you: move the fight away from the Repository and make it cross turret coverage.
  • The Observatory attacks consume everything: isolate one tower, retreat for repairs, and preserve the construction materials inside the facility.
  • The factory trip ends with toxin damage: replace the temporary filter, stock Module Storage for automatic swaps, or finish the Membrane Filter Cabin.
  • Alloy disappears as soon as it is found: finish Smelter research before buying optional reinforced structures.
  • Daedalus remains sealed: verify that the weapons are Combat Plasma Cutters, aligned together, powered, and accompanied by the Mind Module.
  • Oracle does not advance the objective: stop rearranging modules and restore the backup from before insertion.
  • The rocket door stays shut: keep the grid inside 250–500, verify the transformers and Fuel tanks, then confirm the code exchange.
  • The rocket is open but the module has no target: zoom into the cabin in C mode and find the small interior platform.

The campaign is finished when every handoff is complete, not when the strongest rover is built. Protect the Mind, make each new resource renewable, and let the quest state—not an old day number or generator estimate—decide when the next module moves.
