Beholder: Conductor Best Ending Route: Keep the Cat and Stop the Bomb

Winston facing the cat while promotion and cat-care deadlines remain active in Beholder Conductor

Beholder: Conductor does not decide its most hopeful ending at one final dialogue. The route is built much earlier: earn Tom’s Trainmaster’s Key and never surrender it, adopt the cat and absorb the authority penalties, reach first class, refuse Michelle’s affair, preserve the gold officer’s gun, use it to stop Bart’s provocation, and turn the locomotive fuse key to the right. Miss one of those dependencies and the last scene may offer survival without the family-and-cat outcome.

Winston facing the cat while promotion and cat-care deadlines remain active in Beholder Conductor

This route is for a spoiler-heavy first playthrough aimed at Que Sera, Sera, not a claim that all 44 Steam achievements fit into one run. These checkpoints were verified on July 21, 2026. The relevant official content boundary is the post-launch line through Windows 1.0.4.275 and macOS 1.0.4.57, followed by Alawar’s November 2025 Unity-version stability upgrade. The balance patch changed the family brooch, VIP rewards, time pacing, and noisy-passenger arrests; a later patch added the Bekir and Elif call. Advice written for the public alpha or based on the launch-day resale exploit is outside this route.

The ending is controlled by five dependencies

Think of the journey as a dependency chain rather than a list of unrelated favors. These are the states that must still be true when Winston reaches the locomotive:

Dependency Where it begins What can break it End-state check
Trainmaster’s Key Tom’s request about Louise’s favorite food Giving it to the Trainmaster to escape a cat penalty The key is still in Winston’s control at the fuse
The cat The long repair stop at Helmer Suburbs Leaving it, giving it to Peter, surrendering it to Chantal, or missing its care timer The cat remains with Winston
No affair Michelle’s post-promotion scene Accepting the intimate encounter No bedroom scene has occurred
Replacement gun The first-class murder investigation Selling, planting, or losing the gold D.M. officer’s gun Bart’s real weapon has been swapped
Bomb knowledge Frida Carr’s conversation and the VIP evidence chain Ending Frida’s dialogue before the nuclear explanation or failing to assemble the later evidence The New Tomorrow call can identify the device and unlock the finale cleanly

The key and cat form the expensive part of the route. When the Trainmaster discovers the animal, handing over the key appears to solve an immediate authority problem. It also removes the direct right-turn solution at the fuse. Keep the key and treat every cat penalty as a planned cost. The replacement gun is the opposite: it looks like valuable loot, but its real value is as a story tool. Do not sell it.

Lock the route before Helmer Suburbs

During Bart’s opening instruction, exhaust his topics before taking over. This secures Beginnings Are Such Delicate Times and teaches the three checks that protect the whole run: inspect a ticket before the next station, prepare an assigned compartment before its passengers wait in the corridor, and submit only evidence that matches the active directive. Authority reaching zero ends the run, so a careless ticket is not a harmless tutorial mistake unless you are intentionally branching for The Ticket That Exploded.

When Louise asks for food, speak with Peter to enter the dining car, then help Tom learn her favorite dish. Finish that exchange and keep the unusual key Tom gives you. Inventory descriptions and translations vary, but the route-relevant item is the Trainmaster’s Key. Do not confuse it with ordinary carriage access.

Louise can offer a toy, a gun, or no payment. The gun opens extra outcomes in the prisoner scene, but it is not the gold gun needed near the end. If you take Louise’s weapon, dispose of it safely before the first-class murder inspection. Carrying an ordinary weapon into that inspection can trigger Minority Report and destroy the clean route. The safest ending-focused choice is to avoid building the run around it.

At the extended repair stop, buy Peter the expensive antidepressants if you want his survival branch and Choose Life. Then adopt the ginger cat for Stowaway. Before departure, use the unusually long platform window to secure ordinary food and bowls when available. Station shops rotate, while later stops allow only a short visit; leaving a required purchase for the last seconds is a more serious risk than paying slightly early.

Run third class as an evidence queue, not a theft spree

Keeping the cat drains authority, so the route needs a repeatable way to earn it without closing passenger quests too early. Use this order for each new arrival:

  1. Check the ticket immediately. Resolve every mismatch before the train reaches the next station.
  2. Peek before entering. Smoking, writing, prohibited conversations, and other observed behavior may provide dossier facts without a search penalty.
  3. Wait for the compartment to empty. If a search is necessary, record the useful state and restore moved objects before the passenger returns.
  4. Hold evidence until its job is clear. A passenger who is reported too early cannot finish a favor, supply a later clue, join the card game, or provide a better-paying first-class target.
  5. Spend one fact at a time. When several violations exist, a blackmail attempt can use one while a separate fact remains available for a required report.

Do not use the old buy-and-resell loop as an economy plan. Alawar removed a profitable resale exploit in 1.0.1, and the 1.0.2 balance patch changed prices and rewards again. Normal sale of unwanted luggage or surplus is still a live client decision, but a fixed profit table from an early guide is not reliable. The stable income is correct tickets, accurate characteristics, mission rewards, selective blackmail, and delaying arrests until the passenger has delivered every useful interaction.

When the Ministry Quotas call arrives after Ministerial and Vresnik, submit the stored character facts and reports then. The Pribula brothers and Michelle share a bond-and-brooch chain that can feed both rewards and achievements, but the ending does not require one exact owner for every item. The current patch specifically keeps the family brooch in lost-and-found if all owners are arrested. Use the lost-and-found box as the recovery signal; do not assume a launch guide’s luggage location is permanent.

Keep the cat by following its timers, not a fixed food count

At Komlo, buy the litter box and place it through the cat interaction. Later, add the toy and bowls to complete Machineries of Joy. The Trainmaster will discover the animal and start an ultimatum. When that deadline resolves, accept the authority loss and keep the key. If a second cat ultimatum appears, make the same route decision again. The exact authority balance depends on difficulty, fines, and optional work; the non-negotiable fact is that the key must not become the payment.

Allow the ticketless student Lukasz to remain aboard at Cheshkovitse. When the cat becomes ill, he is the diagnostic checkpoint that reveals the need for special food. The replacement is the expensive imported cat food sold at a later platform vendor. Buy it when the quest is live and feed the cat before its displayed timer expires. Community routes stock different quantities because their spending, waiting, and difficulty settings differ; follow the current quest timer rather than copying a universal can count.

There are three later attempts to separate Winston from the cat:

  • The Trainmaster’s ultimatum: take the authority loss; never hand over the key.
  • Peter’s departure after promotion: do not choose the option that gives him the cat. That choice is for Let It Go, not this ending.
  • Chantal in first class: keep the animal and absorb the large authority penalty. Giving her the cat removes it from the ending and leads to a much darker food quest.

A useful failure signal is simple: if the cat interaction, its care timer, or its visible presence disappears after one of those scenes, roll back before doing more first-class work. Rebuilding hours of evidence cannot restore a branch that has already handed the animal away.

Reach Redding with two promotion plans

The Ministry’s displayed target is 20,000 authority. Treat that as Plan A: complete accurate profiles, finish profitable favors, use reports only after passenger quests are exhausted, and avoid searches or departures that create fines. Keeping the cat makes the margin narrower, so also protect a cash reserve. Some current full-release routes receive a 15,000-money payment option when the authority deadline expires. Treat that as Plan B only if the live promotion call actually offers it; do not spend down to zero because an old guide promises the fallback.

The best checkpoints for the third-class budget are functional rather than exact:

Checkpoint Inventory or balance to protect Why it matters
Komlo Trainmaster’s Key, cat food, litter box The first cat penalty begins here
Cheshkovitse to Sebezh Lukasz still aboard, toy, one flexible cash reserve The diagnosis and care branch must remain available
Zhdyarets onward Enough money for imported cat food when the timer appears Missing the vendor window can end the cat route
Razlog Vodka for Frida and time to exhaust her work dialogue Her nuclear explanation supplies a later bomb inference
Before Egger 20,000 authority target or a protected 15,000 cash fallback Promotion is the gate into first class

Frida is easy to treat as optional flavor, but her conversation is part of the reliable evidence chain. Give her vodka, ask about her work, and when she tests Winston’s knowledge, choose the response that says he understands the basics. Continue until she explains the nuclear subject. Strangelove confirms that the branch registered. If the achievement or corresponding dossier clue does not appear, reload before she leaves rather than hoping the VIP call will reconstruct the missing knowledge.

At Redding, watch the fireworks if the quest is active and finish the promotion. From this point, stop spending as though the journey is nearly over. A later compartment for Francis Kentaro costs 10,000, and the VIP investigation can also impose authority costs. Promotion solves access; it does not eliminate the need for a reserve.

Redding separates the cat route from Michelle’s route

After promotion, Peter can leave and Michelle can visit Winston’s new office. These scenes contain two of the final ending checks. Keep the cat rather than giving it to Peter. When Michelle makes the intimate offer, choose the response that clearly rejects the encounter and verify that no bedroom scene plays. Localized dialogue wording has caused confusion in community guides, so judge the branch by the scene outcome, not by an isolated quoted line.

This deliberately gives up Ummagumma in the ending save. It may also conflict with choices used for Michelle’s other achievements, especially using her to remove the noisy passengers. Do not distort the main route to collect every branch. If you want those badges, retain a rollback point before the card game/noisy-passenger sequence and another before the post-promotion office scene.

In first class, the Werner Berzinsh versus Henry Colt assignment is a faction fork, not the core ending fork. Each side wants the other removed, and first-class arrests require repeated valid reports. Choose the side you want for Tweedledee or Tweedledum, but keep enough evidence and money for the murder investigation that follows. The decisive object appears after that murder, regardless of which political badge you prefer.

Use the first-class murder to preserve the right gun

Before the assassination scene, remove ordinary weapons from Winston’s personal inventory. Selling one is safer than carrying it; planting it creates another moving part that can be reported or lost. When the lights go out and Henry Colt is killed, an inspection can punish Winston for any weapon on him. That is the failure branch associated with Minority Report.

Once the crime scene is active, search Werner’s compartment and identify the gold officer’s gun marked with D.M. initials. Show the relevant evidence to the Trainmaster when prompted, but keep the gun afterward if the item remains available. This is the replacement for Bart’s live weapon in the VIP act. Do not confuse it with Louise’s early gun, and do not sell it to recover the first-class room cost.

The 1.0.3 content patch added a Bekir and Elif phone quest around this phase. It requires a save from Fuersten or earlier, both foreign passengers unarrested and in their compartment, then triggers after departure from Pients. Complete it if the phone rings, but do not use its absence to diagnose the ending route: Alawar described it as a new side quest, and readable full-release routes report that its warning choice does not replace the cat, gun, affair, ambassador, or fuse conditions.

The armored Determination Bringer after the aerial attack in Beholder Conductor

The shelling opens one investigation with three moving targets

After the aerial attack, the useful names are Francis Kentaro, Ambassador Josef, and old conductor Bart. Work through Francis’s dining-car dialogue until the armored VIP route opens. Prepare his first-class compartment when requested, retrieve the record from his room, and persuade him to perform. His concert draws the ambassador and Eva out of their private spaces, creating the search window.

Search the ambassador’s compartment during that window. The route needs the love correspondence and evidence of his peaceful purpose. Do not confront Josef with the affair; one full-release walkthrough records a severe authority loss for that disclosure. Tell Bart what you found. Wait until he sleeps, then inspect him: his letter exposes the assassination instructions and his weapon is the immediate threat.

Replace Bart’s gun with the D.M. officer’s gun. The replacement has a disabled firing mechanism, so Bart believes he is armed while the provocation fails. Sunrise, Parabellum is the clean confirmation that the swap registered. Merely stealing Bart’s weapon is less reliable because he may notice the loss; merely keeping the gold gun does nothing.

If the achievement does not appear, check four states before advancing:

  • the item came from the first-class murder evidence, not Louise;
  • Bart is asleep and his pockets are accessible;
  • the live weapon left Bart’s inventory;
  • the gold D.M. gun now occupies its place.

Build the New Tomorrow call from evidence, not guesses

The later phone report is a synthesis test. It can ask Winston to distinguish the ambassador’s public mission, Bart’s real orders, Henry Colt’s role, and the purpose of the locomotive device. Supply only conclusions supported by collected letters and conversations:

  • Josef’s mission is peaceful, based on the VIP evidence;
  • Bart has separate instructions and killed the first-class industrialist, based on the letter taken while he slept;
  • Henry’s correspondence concerns delivery of a device;
  • Frida’s explanation lets Winston identify the nuclear context and infer that the box is a trigger;
  • the love correspondence establishes the forbidden relationship.

The diagnostic signal is access to both Save the Ambassador and Deactivate the Bomb. If one is absent, do not fast-forward to the last station. Recheck the ambassador’s room, Bart’s sleeping inventory, Henry’s letter, and Frida’s completed dialogue. Patch 1.0.1 improved the marker timing for Find the Ambassador, but a clearer marker cannot replace a clue that was never collected.

When the provocation plays, the swapped gun should prevent Bart from killing the ambassador. That protects the political outcome and satisfies the first half of the final achievement. Failure here cannot be repaired at the fuse: preventing the explosion after Josef dies leads to a different ending state.

At Arnieo, turn the fuse key right

Winston inside the locomotive near the nuclear fuse controls in Beholder Conductor

When the locomotive opens, go to the fuse mechanism near the firemen. Because the Trainmaster’s Key is still available, the control presents a direct choice. Insert the key and turn it to the right. Turning left only extends the countdown. Dragging or detaching the device belongs to the no-key survival branches and introduces the duel or explosion outcomes.

After the fuse is neutralized, search the accessible upper room and take the second letter from the drawer if the prompt remains. Then let the ending resolve. The intended final state is:

  • the ambassador lives because Bart’s gun was replaced;
  • the explosion is prevented by the right-turn key action;
  • Winston never accepted Michelle’s affair;
  • the cat is alive and still with Winston;
  • Winston survives and reaches the family reunion.

That combination is the corroborated unlock state for Que Sera, Sera; Steam’s current public stats page lists the badge but leaves its description blank. If it does not unlock, audit those five visible outcomes rather than replaying every side quest. The politician/industrialist choice, Bekir and Elif warning, Chantal’s meal, and most third-class favors can change passengers and resources, but they do not substitute for the gun, fuse, affair, cat, and reunion checks.

Keep opposite achievements on rollback saves

A 44-achievement completion needs conflicting decisions, and at least one current community guide recommends multiple runs or carefully retained saves. These are the useful rollback points for this route:

Rollback point Main-route choice Opposite branch to test separately
Helmer Suburbs Adopt the cat for Stowaway Leave it for Stray
Louise and the prisoner Preserve the clean continuing route Use the gun/no-gun outcomes for Love Will Tear Us Apart, Real Darkness Has Love for a Face, or The First Death is in the Heart
Noisy passengers Protect the promotion economy and desired Michelle state Arrest them, enlist Michelle, or blame Peter for the mutually exclusive badges
Redding office Keep the cat and reject the affair Give the cat to Peter or accept Michelle for Let It Go and Ummagumma
First-class faction Choose one side Reload for the other Tweedle badge
Locomotive Swap the gun and turn right Use a separate save for Big Iron, Chikhai Bardo, or Mars Aeternum

Do not combine the no-theft, no-report/blackmail, and no-fine perfectionist achievements with this first route unless you already understand every passenger window. They impose different resource rules and remove many recovery options. The best-ending save should remain a dependable story route; use later runs to optimize prohibitions rather than risking the cat and fuse chain for an unrelated badge.
