Poppy Playtime: Chapter 1 is short enough to finish in one sitting, but its power puzzles punish one mistaken assumption: the GrabPack carries electricity through the cable, not through the hand after you let go. Keep the hand attached, route the cable around every required conductor, and only then touch the destination. That rule opens the lobby, powers Make-A-Friend, and makes the route below reproducible.
The route below reveals every major event in A Tight Squeeze, from the reception code to Poppy’s case. It follows the current Steam base game, AppID 1721470, checked July 21, 2026. Chapter 1 is included with the free base game; Chapters 2-5 are separate DLC. Optional tapes are noted when they sit directly on the route, but this is a completion guide rather than a collectible sweep.
Read the train before touching the reception keypad
The locked left corridor does not require a guessed color pattern. Walk through the right corridor into the toy-display room and look overhead at the train circling the track. Read the engine and carriages in travel order:
- Green engine
- Pink first carriage
- Yellow second carriage
- Red final carriage
Return to the reception keypad and press green, pink, yellow, red. If it stays locked, reset your reading at the engine; reversing the visible train is the usual mistake.
Inside, take the blue tape from the desk and play it in the matching machine. The glass case opens and gives you the Blue Hand. Practice on loose objects, then return to reception, cross the turnstiles, and hold the hand on the blue scanner until its bar fills. A quick tap will not finish the scan.
The lobby circuit needs both bronze posts inside one cable loop
When the scanner beside the Huggy Wuggy statue shorts out, inspect Huggy’s raised hand and pull down the gold key. Use it on the nearby Power door. In the generator room, remove the small panel marked with hand symbols to expose the live outlet.
Attach the Blue Hand to that outlet and do not release it. Walk around the lockers so the glowing cable touches the first bronze power post, then continue around the other side so the same cable wraps the second post. Both post tops should glow before power returns. If the first goes dark, you cut a corner or let the hand detach; reconnect and make a wider loop.
Back in the lobby, the Huggy statue is gone and the left scanner works. Follow that corridor into storage. Four colored blocks must be placed in the catwalk terminal:
- The blue block is beside the terminal, before you drop.
- The yellow block is low on a shelf just after landing.
- The red block is beneath the conveyor at the far end.
- The green block is high on the rear wall pipe; pull it down with the GrabPack.
The orange tape is on the shelving behind the yellow block and can be taken through the sliding door to the orange player in the previous room. It is optional. Once all four blocks are installed, the crane drops and breaks the glass container holding the Red Hand. The red and blue wall pads at the conveyor exit are the immediate proof that both hands are equipped.
Shorten the Make-A-Friend power route before carrying current
The vent circuit on the way down teaches the two-hand pattern. Attach the Red Hand to the live outlet, slide down the left route so the cable catches the center node, then aim the Blue Hand at the inactive outlet beside the blocked door. Do not release the powered hand until the destination is connected.
At Make-A-Friend, climb the stairs and pull the orange handle across the first gap to make a bridge. The larger circuit above the factory looks too long because it is too long in its default layout. Reposition the retractable catwalk twice:
- Pull the moving catwalk to the bottom of the snaking route.
- Connect the Blue Hand to the starting outlet and cross that shortcut without touching either node yet.
- From the top, pull the same catwalk upward so it bridges the middle level to the top.
- Walk back to the middle by the fixed path. Keep the Blue Hand attached and route its cable around both bronze nodes.
- Cross the shortened catwalk and fire the Red Hand at the inactive outlet.
A failed circuit usually means the retractable bridge stayed at the bottom, forcing the cable to spend too much length. Set the bridge at the upper gap before wrapping the nodes.
Return to the factory floor, press the red start button, and pull all three ingredient levers. Wait for the toy to reach the end of the conveyor, carry it to the scanner under Nobody Leaves Without a Toy, and place it there. The long corridor beyond is the chase trigger, so finish any optional tape viewing before walking to its end.
Use landmarks, not reaction, during the Huggy vent chase
When Huggy appears, turn back toward Make-A-Friend and enter the open conveyor route. The safe line is a sequence of visible decisions:
- Slide down, then turn left when Huggy appears through the vent ahead.
- Take the first right into the tunnel marked by the word don’t.
- At the dead end, take the open vent on the left and drop through the floor.
- After the long slide, turn right immediately and follow the winding vents.
- At the end of the long straight, crouch under the half-raised shutter on the left.
- Wait only where the next door physically blocks you; move the instant it opens.
Huggy can appear ahead as well as behind, so an open-looking forward path is not automatically safe. The graffiti, floor drop, long slide, and half-open left shutter are more reliable than trying to track the model through the walls.
After you spill onto the final walkway, turn around and look above the vent exit. A heavy crate with handprints is perched over the route. Attach both hands and keep pulling until the crate falls. Starting this input late lets Huggy reach the platform before the trap finishes.
Poppy’s case is beyond the left branch after the final tape junction
Once the walkway collapses, follow the remaining catwalk toward the flower-marked door. At the fork, an optional black tape lies on the floor. The player is down the right branch; return to the fork afterward and take the left branch to continue.
Open the flower door, descend through the bedroom-like halls, and use the GrabPack to pull open the glass case in the final room. Poppy’s line and the cut to credits confirm that Chapter 1 is complete. There is no extra combat input after the case opens.
If progression appears stuck
- Lobby scanner has no power: take the gold key from Huggy’s raised hand and complete the two-post circuit in the Power room.
- Storage terminal is missing a block: check beneath the conveyor for red and the high rear pipe for green.
- Make-A-Friend cable cannot reach: move the retractable catwalk to the upper gap before looping both nodes.
- The toy scanner rejects you: pick up the finished toy from the end of the assembly conveyor; pulling the three levers alone is not enough.
- The chase door will not open: stay alive at the door until its animation completes. There is no alternate switch in that dead end.
