Disciples: Domination Walkthrough: Five Chapters, Puzzles, and Final Seals

Armored units facing a towering corrupted enemy in Disciples: Domination

A stalled campaign in Disciples: Domination is usually not asking for more wandering. It is asking for the right companion, an unresolved throne ruling, or one arena rule that ordinary damage cannot solve. The safest route is therefore a chain of tools: Helmer teaches control, Ethel adds finishing pressure, Melendrach opens Blood Rites, Ejamar operates gateways, Illmeren breaks seals, and Chapter 5 makes you reassemble that toolkit before the final descent.

Full campaign and boss spoilers follow. This walkthrough covers the prologue and all five chapters, but it does not transcribe every quest marker. It concentrates on the decisions, dungeon switches, optional puzzles, formation changes, and point-of-no-return checks that can actually stop progress.

Build a save-and-roster rhythm before leaving Yllian

Use Yllian as a service stop, not a place to visit only when the story forces you back. Before each new dungeon or named battle, repair the same four weaknesses:

  • Wounded or under-level reserves: train useful bench units at their faction building; companions and elite units use the main building. A replacement that matches the current enemy is more valuable than a familiar unit entering at critical health.
  • No clean attack lanes: friendly units block movement through their spaces. On narrow maps, too many melee bodies spend turns waiting behind one another. Carry at least two credible ranged options when the preview shows obstacles, hazards, or a boss that relocates.
  • One damage answer: inspect weaknesses and unit passives rather than fielding the same faction every time. Against enemies that use corpses, an effect that removes the body solves both the current target and the resurrection it would enable.
  • An empty backline plan: backline units do not consume the frontline Leadership budget. Early supports may look minor, but healing, free corpses, end-of-turn damage, and other support effects become decisive during multi-wave fights.

Upgrade Avyanna’s spells when the next tier legitimately opens, and look for control value as well as raw damage. Area attacks reveal stealth, displacement changes hazard outcomes, and Taunt can suppress an enemy’s preferred opener. A taunted opponent may waste its activation if it cannot reach the taunter; if your own unit is taunted, removing the source ends the restriction.

A mixed army fighting across a hex-grid battlefield in Disciples: Domination
Read the board before deployment: hex access, blocked lines, enemy weaknesses, and the objective mechanic should decide the roster.

Make a manual save before speaking to an isolated quest character, operating a final dungeon device, or accepting a throne result. Some conversations move directly into combat, and a ruling can spend resources or change faction reputation. There is no single universally correct grievance answer: read the faction arrows, price, and promised outcome, then choose for the relationship you are actually building.

Identify the lock before following another marker

The destination is absent from the world map
Return to Yllian and check for a story grievance, companion meeting, or unreported quest. Wulf Coast, the war challenge, the Still Court diversion, and Undanheim all depend on decisions made away from the physical route.
A dungeon door or wall is inert
Match the obstruction to the companion: Melendrach for Blood Rites, Ejamar for gateways, Illmeren for seals. Then check the nearby statue, lever, plate clue, basin, or key before leaving the dungeon.
An encounter will not start or the pathing is broken
Install Update 1.4 or later first. Official updates repaired encounters that ignored click input, navigation in Agthos, an Ejamar gateway blocker, and environment navigation problems. Approach a visible encounter normally once after updating; do not rebuild the entire route around a launch bug.
A hazard remains after it should clear
Update and reload the checkpoint. The official 1.3 notes specifically repaired intersecting hazard zones in Galthiel’s arena and several other combat-state defects.
Chapter 5 begins without the expected army
That is intentional. Recover Ethel, Ejamar, the Dwarf, Illmeren, Melendrach, and Helmer in the tunnel sequence; normal Yllian access returns after the exit.
The final seal takes zero normal damage
That is the mechanic, not a resistance check. Move the Primal Seal onto lightning, or put allied units on Divine runes after removing enemies.

The official Steam version has 34 achievements, but their presence does not turn every community checklist into current route evidence. Use the live achievement descriptions as state checks for chapter clears, secondary objectives, faction reputation, crises, exploration grievances, companion quests, Wotan, and the later Domination Mode challenge. The three supplied community guides were retained for audit, but Steam displayed removed/incompatible warnings on them; their exact reward tables and map-dependent cleanup claims were not treated as authoritative.

Prologue and Chapter 1: assemble the first toolkit

Free Helmer in the prologue and use his Taunt to hold the soldiers while the fragile Axe Throwers work from range. Outside the hideout, choose Avyanna’s class and spend from the bottom skill row upward; higher rows open only after enough investment below. Back in Yllian, meet Helmer, construct the Dwarf Barracks, recruit the required units, place them in the party, learn a spell, and travel to Wulf Coast. If the prologue refuses to close, one of those management steps is still incomplete.

Wulf Coast establishes the campaign’s first dependency loop:

  1. Reach Walkelin, then speak to Countess Wolfheart inside the walls.
  2. Return to the throne room and resolve Overwhelmed Countess. The exact ruling is your reputation decision; completing the grievance is the route requirement.
  3. Find Gernyl among Cragwell’s survivors, then locate Alec southeast of the Faithful’s Ordeal. Ethel joins during that search.
  4. Follow the worshipers into the Temple of Cinders. The Albrecht encounter can become a fight depending on how you answer, so save before the conversation.

Temple of Cinders: light the statues, not the locked door

In the upper temple, take the branch opposite Albrecht’s area and light the braziers on three statues. The next quest statue reveals the passage to the depths. Below, ignore the gate beside the fast-travel point at first. Take the left route, descend toward the tainted drain, and activate the quest statue there. If the gate remains shut, check the additional statues around the lower junction: one is on the right of the fast-travel point and four are on the left near the drain stairs.

Osric’s dangerous unit is the Bone Golem, not the large silhouette that naturally draws attention. The golem explodes when defeated, so finish it with an archer, Axe Thrower, or spell while allies stand outside the blast area. Clear the Soldier and other bodies that interfere with movement, then close on Osric. If the fight is overwhelming, return to Yllian and train or replace the weakest slots rather than feeding injured units into the same explosion.

The next throne sequence can lead to recruiting Alec or Gernyl. Treat that as a branch, not a puzzle with a hidden perfect answer. Complete the follow-up for the person you selected, report to Wolfheart, and prepare ranged damage before the elven encounters. Crimson Elves use stealth; direct targeting fails while it is active, but area damage can hit them and break the effect.

Cragwell: rotate only what opens the next lever

At the first four-platform room, use the lever by the left platform to reach the next control. Turn the following platform so Avyanna can move right above the stairs, then use the elevated lever once to rotate the first platform and create the forward route. This closes the easy return to the fountain, so heal first. Cross to the far side; the next visible platform controls are not the main objective. Go downstairs to the southeast, pass the healing fountain, use the deeper of the two levers, and activate the switch that opens the nearby gate to the summit.

The first Galthiel encounter favors ranged units and a durable taunter. Helmer can pin attention while the back line removes archers and other fragile damage sources. Do not confuse this Chapter 1 confrontation with the transformed Galthiel fight at the end of Chapter 2; the later arena adds mana-source movement, spikes, and hazardous rows.

Chapter 2: burn three Bloodtrees, then read the Silken Watch

At Elma’ar, defeat the Separatists south of Ka’hal, report back, and meet Ormeriel. The Skyless Grove entrance is blocked until three corrupted Bloodtrees west of it are burned. The southern tree is open, the western tree is guarded, and the northwestern tree has a Blood Shaman performing a ritual. The conversation may let you present proof instead of fighting. Check every dialogue option before choosing force; the story continues either way, but companions notice how the situation was handled.

Inside the grove, find Melendrach, then continue to the tainted river. The current remains open because of wooden supports. Interact with the supports to dam the flow, return to Melendrach, and recruit him. His Blood Rite world skill matters later, so when a ritual marker appears, return with him rather than treating it as decorative scenery.

The front gate of Silken Watch is blocked. Go north from it and use the underground stairs. At the first optional puzzle, rotate paired statues until they face one another. Deeper inside, defeat the guards for a key and speak to Pyrmelan. The locked route near the large tree is controlled by a statue and wall markings: read the symbols on the wall, then press the surrounding plates in that displayed left-to-right order. The artwork is the code; copying a memorized numeric sequence from a different room will not help.

Heal at the fast-travel point before pulling the main lever. When Ka’hal is found fighting the Separatists, the game offers a real consequence: leaving her alone leads to her death, while helping starts your own battle and leaves a later judgment. Save before choosing. After the associated throne rulings, return to Wulf Coast and help Wolfheart before heading to Elven Pass.

The transformed Galthiel fight punishes a fixed formation

Galthiel dives into tainted mana and emerges from another source. Avyanna receives an arena action that can lock a source, but the lock has a cost; use it to make the next emergence predictable, not automatically on every pool. Spread the army so one area attack cannot hit the entire formation, and keep ranged lines covering more than one edge.

After the phase transition, the arena resets and Separatists join. Galthiel also creates spikes that can be attacked. Remove a spike before its empowered state threatens adjacent hexes, move off rows that begin glowing with mana, and avoid stacking units around the same safe-looking tile. The failure signal is clear: if most incoming damage is coming from the floor and spikes instead of enemy turns, stop racing the boss’s health and repair the board first.

Chapter 3: Ejamar is the route key, not the dangerous left portal

In the Plains of Agthos, clear the guards and enter the Tower of Jubilation. The left and right corridors connect; use the lever on the far side to open the stair gate. On the upper level, the four-plate puzzle is optional. To open its treasure gate, activate left plate 2, followed by left plate 1. The story stairs are beside it, so a failed treasure puzzle should never block Sugdran.

Free Sugdran with the lever left of his cell and inspect the cloud around the Maw of Ashes. The next usable tool is Ejamar, who is hiding in Skyless Grove. Take the right gateway to reach him. The left gateway contains treasure but also a much stronger optional encounter; retreat if its preview is well above the party. Defeat Ejamar’s force, recruit him, and return to the Maw.

With Ejamar present, destroy the obelisk south of the Maw’s western entrance. The next marked point does not contain an obelisk; do not waste time combing that empty spot. Continue to the third marker, defeat its defenders, and destroy the remaining obelisk to disperse the cloud.

Inside the Maw, Freya’s group opens the route after battle. At the broken bridge, let Sugdran work. The party is shifted into an alternate space: clear the first combat, use the portal, meet the Witness, then clear the Thur’gaal and Malekith encounter. When three gateways appear on one platform, enter the central gateway to reach the throne-room battle. Interact with the throne after winning to return to the repaired bridge.

Free Illmeren, inspect the damaged Gate of Thorgoc, then leave the Maw to obtain Avyanna’s new Ultimate and receive Thur’gaal’s challenge. Resolve the war grievance according to the faction balance you want. The Melding of Steel is a sequence, not one disposable encounter: bring trained reserves, replace losses between battles when the party screen becomes available, and focus Thur’gaal when he appears because his damage is more dangerous than his health pool suggests.

Chapter 4: let Illmeren turn seals into doors

Illmeren joins permanently in the Severed Lands and can break seals. Rescue Aldryn, then enter the Nursery behind her location. The main path descends to a wooden bridge and Othwar, but the second level also holds the optional Heroes’ Trial.

Heroes’ Trial six-plate order

Stand facing the six coffins and label the floor plates left 1-3 and right 1-3. Use this order:

Left 3 – Right 1 – Left 2 – Right 3 – Right 2 – Left 1.

All six plates should remain lit and the chest should unlock. This is optional gear, not the Othwar route. If the pattern fails, reset the room and confirm that left and right are being read from the approach to the coffins, not from behind them.

Othwar gives the key needed for the Shears path. Return to the wooden bridge, take the left route, open the locked gate, and follow the lower floors until Melendrach can question the spirit near the remains. The Shears were taken to the Maze of Hunger in the north. Follow the quest marker through its small portal platforms; wrong gateways loop through optional treasure rather than destroying progress. Defeat the returned Osric, recover the Shears, and bring them back to Othwar.

Aldryn’s plan sends Avyanna to the throne and then to Malekith’s frontline in Agthos. Once the diversion is complete, return to the Still Court. The entry sequence is a chain of visible mechanisms:

  1. The right route is locked. Go left, have Illmeren break the wall seal, and pull the revealed lever.
  2. Past the healing fountain, take the south route and turn right for the lever that opens the iron gate.
  3. Descend; the disappearing wall exposes a gateway room with coffins.
  4. Beyond the gateway, rotate the central statue so it opens the left-hand gate, then pass through that gateway to approach the throne room.

Two side rooms release the throne door. In the right room, follow the lectern: the two female elf statues face away from each other; the death figure faces forward; the human faces the wall; the spider and skull-bearing figure face the human. In the left room, press the plates in the same order shown on the wall. When both mechanisms are correct, the throne room opens.

Malekith: cracked tiles are removal, not ordinary damage

Do not send the whole army to Malekith’s starting side. Some Undead carry his effect: they die at round end and empower him, so eliminate those marked bodies before they can convert themselves into boss strength. Destroy an Idol when it creates a useful opening, but never let the buffed adds expire merely to reach a crystal sooner.

The red middle zone warns that Malekith is about to cross the arena. Red space can be survived; cracked tiles immediately remove a unit from battle. Move every valuable unit off cracks even when that means losing an attack. After he settles in the middle and stops switching sides, collapse safely and finish the damage race.

Chapter 5: rebuild the party before opening Undanheim

The Gate of Thorgoc scatters the party and temporarily removes normal access. Help Ethel first. From the nearby fountain, take the right gateway to recover Ejamar, return to the main platform, recruit the available Dwarf, and help Illmeren. Then go back toward the fountain and take the left gateway.

Illmeren opens the sealed wall. Find Melendrach near the Blood Rite; he needs Undead Crawler blood. Defeat the Crawlers at the quest chamber, use the basin outside it, and return through the unlocked route. Helmer leads the reunited group out of the tunnel, restoring the army and Yllian access. If the exit remains closed, the missing state is the basin interaction, not another gateway combination.

Undanheim lies northeast. Interact with the Dwarven Mill before approaching the city gate, deal with Freya, and speak to Grimel. His request creates a throne grievance about Undanheim and the exiles. Several favorable-looking options can require substantial resources. Save, inspect the full sequence and prices, and do not assume that one source’s 10,000-gold route is the only valid ruling.

Avyanna reviewing a grievance in the Yllian throne room
Throne choices show costs and faction movement before confirmation. Read the whole chain before spending toward a reputation plan.

After reporting back to Grimel and surviving the Undead attack, enter the Abandoned Mines. A wall to the right of the fast-travel point is now gone. Defeat the attackers around Grimel and continue to the Millennial Vault. Take the key from the room left of the locked vault gate, enter the central chamber, and activate the mechanism right of the closed exterior door to start the elevator.

The working floor order is 4 – 3 – 2:

  • Floor 4: defeat the Runic Sentinels and activate the mechanism on the right, then the mechanism left of the elevator. The Rock Lord chamber is optional.
  • Floor 3: activate both mechanisms. These control the main exterior doors on Floor 2.
  • Floor 2: take the now-open exit into Undanheim. The four-rune rotation puzzle here is optional; each rune’s correct orientation is shown elsewhere on the same floor.

Defeat the Witness by clearing its accompanying units before committing to its large health pool. At the Temple of Yaata’hally, Helmer gives the campaign’s clearest stop warning. Treat it literally: save in a separate slot, recruit spare units, train the party, upgrade legal spells and gear, finish the companion or exploration work you still care about, and only then descend.

The final seals are movement puzzles disguised as boss fights

Primal Seal: make Wotan’s lightning hit the objective

Normal damage does not reduce the Primal Seal. Wotan marks red tiles for lightning at round end, and the seal must occupy one of those tiles when the strike lands. First remove the ordinary enemies so they cannot body-block the setup.

  • A ranged hit pulls the seal toward the attacker when the intervening tile is free.
  • A melee hit pushes it two tiles in the attacker’s facing direction.
  • Avyanna’s temporary Power of the Primal action pushes affected units three tiles and can correct a bad alignment.

Work backward from the red tile: decide where the seal must finish, leave a landing hex open, then choose the attacker whose pull or push reaches that hex. Do not spend every action striking the seal from whichever side is convenient; an unplanned hit can undo the previous move. Repeat the lightning setup until the objective breaks. If Twilight Rift Tier IV crashes this fight, update the game; the official 1.3 notes identify that exact first-seal crash as fixed.

Divine Seal: allies on runes deal damage; enemies heal it

The Divine Seal also ignores ordinary attacks. Wotan inscribes runic tiles. Each allied unit standing on a rune at resolution removes 10% of the seal’s maximum health; each enemy on a rune restores 5%. Kill or displace enemies first, then occupy as many safe runes as possible in the same round. A half-cleared board creates the worst result: allies damage the seal while surviving enemies refund part of the progress.

Wotan: reserve protection for the turn that would scatter the army

Wotan has two phases, and the second begins with a restored health bar. His attacks push units, so two or three ranged characters reduce the number of turns lost walking back into range. Illmeren, Ejamar, and Melendrach all provide useful reach or utility, while durable melee units keep pressure near the boss.

Avyanna keeps Power of the Primal and gains Divine Shelter, which prevents damage for one round only in the area around her. Do not spend it as a routine opener. Hold it for the telegraph that would catch several units or for a turn when knockback has left the formation unable to escape red tiles. Phase two tests the same reading with a refreshed boss, so a win that empties every defensive resource in phase one is not yet stable.
