The opening of Scarlet Deer Inn becomes confusing when the village starts handing Elise people, parcels, and directions faster than it gives her landmarks. The clean route is not to search every edge of the map. Finish each conversation until it creates the next handoff, reserve the clearly marked cake for Otto, and use the burned house, church, old oak, mule, and bridge as a chain of navigation points.
This walkthrough follows that chain from Kuba’s missing toy to the forced fall beneath Karel’s Apiary. It includes the first dark turn, but it does not claim to cover the dungeon or the rest of the newly released game.
Clear the inn before treating the village as open
Begin by moving left to speak with Kuba. His problem is local: Bara has taken Horace, the toy horse, but the horse is already inside the inn. Move right, take it from the shelf, and return it to Kuba. If the next errand has not appeared, the likely missing state is the return conversation, not a hidden exit.
Leave Kuba and speak with Anna in the kitchen. Elise is already planning to visit Mistress Dorota with Bara’s tunic, and Anna adds a drink to the delivery. Enter the cellar through the left-side route and take the bottle stored on its left. The choice is between Wine – The Cunning Slug and Mead – Scarlet Deer.
The saved Part 1 reference identifies the mead as Dorota’s preference. Choose it if you want the response aligned with that preference. There is not enough verified evidence to promise a later branch, achievement, or ending from this bottle choice, so do not restart solely because you selected the wine.
Before leaving, notice Bara speaking to the older swordsman in the adjoining room. There is no documented action to take against him here. The scene is useful recognition, not a combat check or a reason to hunt for a weapon.
Dorota turns one delivery into an inventory route
Dorota is outside the house to the right of the inn. Give her the bottle, then move the hay bales into the stable one at a time. Petting the cows is optional; completing the work and speaking with Dorota again is what matters.
That follow-up conversation creates three connected errands:
- Karel the beekeeper: the visit that eventually moves the story below ground.
- Otto the winemaker: Dorota calls out that his cake is the middle one.
- Lada: she is away from home, so finding her becomes the navigation problem that unlocks the return visit.
Treat the cakes as labelled deliveries, not as a tasting puzzle. Keep the middle cake reserved for Otto and read the recipient shown by the live interaction before confirming a handoff. The reference is unambiguous about Otto’s cake position but less clear in its later pronouns; the current game’s recipient label is the safer authority.
The burned house is a turn marker, not the next objective
Leave Dorota and continue right through the outskirts. Speak with Hanka, then Marek, then the two children farther along. You will eventually reach a burned house. That ruin tells you that you have gone far enough along the lower route for now.
Turn back left and take the path rising into the village. This reversal is easy to miss because the game has just encouraged rightward movement across several screens. Continuing to press against the far edge does not advance Dorota’s deliveries; the useful route branches upward before the burned house.
In the village, speak with the Master Bailiff and Marie, then follow the higher path through the archway into the churchyard. These conversations introduce people and context, but the church area also supplies the practical answer to Lada’s location.
Use the church in two passes to locate Lada
On the first churchyard visit, talk with Father Johannes and ask about what he is teaching Bara. Elise can also visit her late husband’s grave here. Afterward, leave the church area and continue left until you reach Otto. The conversation establishes that he wants no part of Dorota’s dispute and that Lada is not at home.
Do not search the entire village for Lada after that exchange. Return to the church and speak with Father Johannes inside. He points Elise toward the old oak tree.
To reach it, leave the church for the village and take the upward path before Otto’s house. Continue past the church’s left wall. The old oak is at the end of that lane, with Lada waiting there.
This is the opening’s most important information gate:
- visit the churchyard and meet Father Johannes;
- find Otto and confirm that Lada is away;
- return inside the church and ask for Lada;
- use Otto’s house and the church wall to find the old oak path.
If Father Johannes does not provide the destination, check whether the Otto conversation has happened. The route uses a repeated location because the second visit has new information, not because the first visit was wasted.
Let Lada complete the return leg before leaving town
Speak with Lada at the old oak. Her request concerns a shirt for Jirik, and the conversation deliberately makes his situation feel unsettled. Let the scene finish. Lada then returns with Elise to Otto’s house and provides the shirt connected to the errand.
Resolve the cake handoff while you are back at the house, using the game’s recipient prompt and keeping the middle cake associated with Otto. Do not leave town merely because you found Lada; the useful state change is the completed conversation back at the house.
Once that exchange is closed, head back toward the village outskirts. You now have a direct reason to continue to Karel rather than another unresolved town search.
The mule marks the apiary detour
Pass Marek on the way out and speak with the man beside the mule. The blocked route is intentional. Take the lower path to the right instead of trying to push through the animal. Elise meets Marketa on this detour; finish that conversation, continue over the bridge, and approach Karel’s Apiary.
The important diagnostic is simple: if you are at the mule and cannot continue, you are not missing an item. You are being redirected around the obstruction. Look down and right for the alternate path, then use the bridge as confirmation that you are still headed toward the apiary.
The apiary cellar ends in a scripted transition
Karel is not waiting outside. The sound from the cellar is the invitation to enter. Go inside and keep descending through the darkness. An elevator becomes the next major landmark; pass the ice blocks beyond it and enter the chamber at the end.
The discovery there and the swordsman’s arrival form a forced story sequence. Elise is attacked and dropped into a pit. Reaching that fall means you completed the supported Part 1 route; it is not evidence that you failed a hidden dialogue check at the inn, chose the wrong drink, or missed a village weapon.
The next playable problem belongs to the underground portion of the game. Official material says its design revolves around limited torch time and shortcuts that make later attempts easier. Those facts are useful preparation, but this package does not turn them into an invented room-by-room route. Make your next decisions from the current checkpoint and the live environment rather than extending a Part 1 guide past its evidence.
When the route stalls, inspect the last handoff
- No Dorota follow-up: finish moving every hay bale into the stable, then speak with her again.
- The village route seems to end at the burned house: backtrack left and take the rising path into town.
- Lada is absent: meet Otto, then return inside the church and ask Father Johannes before taking the old-oak lane.
- You are worried about the cakes: preserve the middle one for Otto and trust the current recipient label; do not infer a permanent ending from an unverified cake consequence.
- The mule blocks progress: use the lower-right detour, speak with Marketa, and cross the bridge.
- Karel is missing: follow the sound into the apiary cellar. His absence is the story trigger.
- The fall looks like a death or bad branch: it is the recorded end of the supported opening segment and the transition into the underground story.
The village is not a maze once every location has a job: the burned house tells you to turn, Otto makes the church worth revisiting, the church names the oak, the mule reveals the detour, and the bridge confirms the apiary route. Follow those state changes and the opening keeps moving without a full-screen sweep after every conversation.
