Primal Planet Walkthrough: Find Your Family and Rebuild the Village

A family traveling past a giant long-necked dinosaur in Primal Planet

The opening of Primal Planet is a chain of commitments, not a free-roaming checklist. You need one usable camp before you can turn a spear into a torch, one dry fire route before the first stone gate will move, and one visit to the old village before the story closes it behind you. Chasing every dark tunnel or distant map icon as soon as it appears is the fastest way to arrive under-equipped at Mosscrag Heights.

This walkthrough follows the evidence-supported early route from the Stillbloom Grove separation to the new settlement in Fernstep Glade. It includes the two Mosscrag encounters and a practical preparation loop through Fernshade River and Breezebloom Lagoon. It does not claim to be a full-game route or a 50-secret checklist.

Read the route as seven proofs, not seven areas

  1. Stillbloom Grove: activate a camp, learn spear-platform movement, craft a torch and reach the family exit.
  2. Blossomshade Forest: move with the reunited family, solve the dry-side brazier route and open the path into Shadewind Valley.
  3. Valleyshade Glade: inspect the old village before the attack triggers; this is your one clean look at its recruit and upgrade economy.
  4. Mosscrag Heights, upper route: prepare at the camp and clear the alien machine encounter.
  5. Mosscrag Heights, lower route: relight the local map, break the floor from above and survive the dinosaur encounter.
  6. Fernstep Glade: hire the Shaman, reveal the local map and establish the new village as the recovery point.
  7. Fernshade River to Breezebloom Lagoon: build oxygen, carrying capacity and reliable healing before following the more dangerous daughter and alien routes.

That sequence separates progress from attractive distractions. A secret room can be useful, but it is not proof that the next gate is ready. The proof is always visible in the world: a lit camp, a revealed map, a raised stone wall, the old village attack, the Shaman’s rescue or the new Fernstep hub.

Your first torch is the real Stillbloom upgrade

After waking in Stillbloom Grove, leave the thorn-covered route behind you. It is a return path: you do not yet have the fire tool it asks for. Move right through the basic attack, roll, item and swimming prompts. Food can draw small predators away from a route; use that behavior when a fight would spend more healing than the room is worth.

The first camp is the important stop. Collect the nearby wood, light the camp, then spend the first point only if it solves an immediate weakness. A health point is a defensible choice, but do not treat any launch-week skill recommendation as mandatory. Camp is also where the route becomes repeatable: you can craft, heal, save and revise the build instead of carrying every mistake into the next room.

Continue upward until the game introduces thrown spears. A spear is both a weapon and a temporary foothold. When the wall is too high for the current jump, throw the spear into it, stand on the shaft and take the next ledge. This is the movement check that matters before the second camp. At that later camp, combine the available spear and fire through the crafting menu to obtain the torch.

The torch recipe open at a campfire in Primal Planet
A torch is an igniteable spear, so wood and a spare spear are progression resources. Water extinguishes the flame; plan the dry route before lighting it.

Fire obeys the room. Water will put it out, while dry grass can carry it to thorns or another surface. Light the upper route, use a thrown flame to burn the grass without standing inside the spread, then use the newly opened path. Near the end, crouch past the sleeping dinosaur instead of converting the last corridor into an unnecessary boss fight. The alien-looking door above is not the current objective. The exit into Blossomshade Forest is where the family sequence resumes.

Blossomshade is a fire-routing puzzle with passengers

Once the family is reunited, the game adds a carrying decision. Learn the current controls for picking up and setting down the daughter, then move left to the camp and map chamber. The first large stone block is not a damage test. Find wood above, return to the camp, and light the chamber’s braziers. The revealed local map gives you the shape of the problem; the third light raises the first obstruction.

The next brazier is separated from the obvious fire source by water. Do not keep relighting the same torch and walking it into the waterfall. Collect the wood and flint available around the pool, climb to the upper dry side, then carry the flame around and back down to the gate. When another raised wall blocks the direct line, climb again. The route uses elevation to preserve fire.

The masked figure who throws a torch is also a direction cue. Take that flame upward, break the small wall, and continue toward the upper camp. If enough skill points have accumulated, Acrobat’s double jump is useful here, but the exact purchase timing is not a hard gate in the saved evidence. Mushroom bounce, spear platforms and the normal route still tell you where the level expects vertical movement.

Before leaving Blossomshade, burn the thorn route from the safe side and follow the climb past the insect swarm. Bait is preferable to losing resources in a crowded fight. The right-hand exit is Shadewind Valley. If you arrive without a torch recipe, a lit camp or enough wood for the next stop, the missing proof is behind you; more fighting ahead will not fix it.

Audit the old village before the story removes it

Shadewind first offers several directions. The evidence-supported story line takes the lower torch-lit route after the masked enemies retreat, then enters Valleyshade Glade. The village is not just scenery. Walk through it deliberately before reaching the far hut:

  • Warrior: the close-range companion and the source of combat-oriented spear and ground-slam options.
  • Hunter: a ranged companion associated with trap and poison crafting.
  • Shaman: a companion associated with medicine and antidote crafting.
  • Herbalist: the route to breathing and firestarter-related crafting.
  • Villagers: the last stop in the supplied route before the attack begins.

The visit teaches the settlement economy even if you cannot afford every hire or upgrade. Record which resource each hut displays and which missing recipe is actually blocking you. Do not grind all upgrades here as though the village will remain a permanent staging point.

Reaching the villager area triggers the attack. At that point the correct direction is forward, not back into the burning hub. Clear or evade only enough masked attackers and flying enemies to keep the escape route open, climb by the waterfall and enter Mosscrag Heights. The Steam achievement list calls this story transition Run for Your Life; if the event does not advance, confirm that you completed the village pass rather than searching Shadewind for an unrelated secret.

Mosscrag is two tests separated by a fall

The upper Mosscrag opening presents an inviting left route toward Skybloom Plateau, but the supported safety route goes right and upward. A Spirit Tree sits between waterfalls and can provide skill points if you have its requested colored materials. Treat that as preparation, not a reason to empty the whole inventory. Continue to the high camp, craft several spears, cook available meat and enter the machine arena from a saved state.

The alien walker combines three pressures:

  • its forward weapon changes height, so answer the barrel position by taking the opposite vertical lane;
  • small electric units pursue and burst, so do not stand still while trying to recover a thrown spear;
  • close range invites a stomp, which makes point-blank damage a poor default.

Thrown spears let you damage the machine while preserving room to read those attacks. Retrieve them only when the electric units and barrel are not converging on the same space. The goal is not a flawless damage loop; it is keeping one safe lane available until the scripted transition occurs.

After the story scene, the route resets lower in Mosscrag. Go left and up the steps, cross the crumbling section, then use the pool and waterfall to descend. Crouch through the narrow gap. The map chamber and camp beyond the mosquitoes are the recovery checkpoint; do not rush past them because the first fight is over.

Reveal the Mosscrag map, climb above the camp and collect only the nearby secret or Spirit Tree resources that do not compromise healing. Return to the map-chamber level when ready. The next progression floor is broken by throwing a spear downward. That action is the proof that you found the intended approach to the Allosaurus sequence.

For the dinosaur encounter, keep the plan simple: throw from a lane that still leaves room to roll across, recover on the next safe crossing, and watch the health bar and scripted arrival rather than trying to hold one corner. The scene changes when the larger predator joins. Surviving the sequence leads to the Shaman’s rescue and the wake-up in Fernstep Glade.

Make Fernstep a working base before following the daughter marker

Fernstep is where the route stops being a flight and becomes a rebuild. Collect a fruit from the herbivore area above the Shaman’s hut, return to hire the Shaman, then craft a spear and torch. The map chamber is up-left on the second level. Reveal it before choosing between the water-heavy right side and Fernshade River to the left.

The current world map is more informative than it was at launch. The August 14, 2025 developer update added area connections, portals, potential village sites, keycards and several major objectives; local maps now show how many secrets have been found. Many markers appear only after the introduction. If an old screenshot lacks a daughter’s marker or a connection that your client shows, trust the client.

Palmcrest is useful for reconnaissance, but it is a bad place to confuse visibility with readiness. The deep pool contains air bubbles and an inactive alien device; the upper route has a waterfall-separated map chamber and leads toward higher-risk territory. Reveal what you can safely, then return to Fernstep if oxygen or damage makes every room a resource loss. You have learned the route without pretending you must finish it immediately.

Build for the obstruction in front of you. Movement, oxygen, inventory space and dependable healing usually open more early routes than another situational damage node.

Fernshade and Breezebloom form the safer preparation loop

Leave Fernstep to the left for Fernshade River when the daughter route is outpacing the build. Carry fire from the entrance to the first brazier, then collect wood and berries while identifying the waterfalls that divide the remaining lights. The local map solution again depends on preserving flame: climb the narrow channel with a spear platform, light the torch on the dry side, return through the channel, and cross the sinking lily pads to the chamber.

The river is also the point where underwater investment stops being optional. Improve oxygen before exploring the lower secret, use air or surface breaks as checkpoints, and roll away from large aquatic predators instead of turning every dive into a damage race. The official August update later added dolphins that double swimming speed and prevent oxygen loss while ridden, but they are an opportunity when encountered, not a prerequisite for this early loop.

From Fernshade’s upper-left exit, Breezebloom Lagoon provides a camp, a Spirit Tree and a route back toward Mosscrag. The map chamber is near the entrance, with a usable flame above the right cliff. Reveal the map first, cross the open ground to the camp, then decide whether the two underwater secrets are worth the current oxygen and healing cost. This order ensures a failed dive returns you to a known save point rather than erasing an exploration run.

Return to Fernstep when you can answer four questions without guessing: Do you have a reliable heal? Can you carry spare wood and spears without discarding quest materials? Can you cross a water room with oxygen left for a mistake? Is either the player or Sino strong enough to keep small enemies from draining all of that preparation? If not, the river-lagoon loop still has a job. If yes, the daughter’s marker and the deeper alien routes become deliberate next steps rather than accidental difficulty spikes.

What this route deliberately leaves unresolved

The current Steam build contains an Alien Moon Base, a new boss and an extended ending added after the launch walkthroughs were written. It also has 50 Steam achievements. The supplied secret-area guide says its own map is incomplete, and its stated cat-spawn percentage conflicts with later comments on the same page. Those claims are not strong enough for a numbered collectible route here.

Use the live local-map secret counter for cleanup, and postpone the blue/orange keycard, portal and moon-base sweep until the story grants the corresponding access. This article ends when Fernstep is operational and the preparation loop is stable. At that point the player has a trustworthy base, a readable map and a way to distinguish a real progression gate from a route that is merely dangerous.
