Heartopia Beginner Progression: Reach DG7 Without Wasting Your First Days

A new D.G. Member following a lakeside path into Heartopia

Your first Heartopia goal is not a larger house, a rare outfit, or a perfect daily routine. It is a clean unlock chain from Annie’s opening tasks to D.G. Member Level 7. Finish that chain and you have fishing, gardening, Resident Requests, a vehicle, an elective hobby, the early Astralis story, and access to the first event layer. Scatter your time across collections and shops too early, and the town feels much slower than it is.

This route is for a new global or Steam character. It follows the supported opening sequence rather than promising a fixed number of real-world days: D.G. progression is gated by repeatable requests, so two players can reach the same checkpoint on different schedules. Codes, premium pulls, exhaustive collections, pet progression, and seasonal reward routes are deliberately outside the scope.

Run two queues: permanent unlocks first, daily progress second

The opening gives you two kinds of work. Story and tutorial tasks permanently open tools, shops, hobbies, and locations. Resident Requests supply Contribution Medals for D.G. progression and refresh on a schedule. They should support each other rather than compete for the same session.

When you log in Do this first Proof that you can switch tasks
A permanent quest is active Follow its marker until the next system, mentor, or region opens The quest leaves the tracker or a new feature appears in the Watch
Resident Requests are available Check every requested item before selling or cooking your inventory The request handoff awards Contribution Medals
A D.G. gate blocks the story Finish the available requests, then gather only for known upcoming handoffs The D.G. upgrade is claimable in the live Guild screen
Neither queue can move today Build a small reserve of branches, timber, stone, ore, fish, and crops You can satisfy a common request without a fresh town-wide search

This order prevents a common false stall. If a hobby mentor will not advance, the missing state may be a D.G. upgrade or a main quest, not more hobby experience. If the D.G. bar will not move, repeating free-roam gathering will not replace a Resident Request handoff.

Close the house-and-tools loop before exploring

Speak with Annie and choose the opening house style, then go to Bob to begin the crafting tutorial. Enter the house and open the delivered boxes. The workbench and starter materials inside are not optional decoration supplies; they are the next quest state. Place or craft the Joinery Single Bed the tutorial requests, then return to Bob.

Bob’s pickaxe turns the nearby plot into a controlled material lesson. Gather branches from bushes, timber from trees, and stone from rocks. Craft the furniture recipes currently shown by the quest rather than emptying the area for an imagined future build. The important reward is the Repair Kit recipe, because a broken tool can otherwise make every later gathering objective look unavailable.

Repair the equipped tool, not an icon in the backpack

When the tutorial asks for a repair, craft the kit from branches. Equip the damaged pickaxe first, then use the Repair Kit from the backpack and move close enough for the placed kit to affect that tool. If durability does not change, check three things in order: the pickaxe is equipped, the kit was actually placed, and your character entered its interaction range. Buying another kit should be the fallback, not the first response.

Once this works, keep one repair kit or its branch cost in reserve. A request for ore or quality timber can arrive after you have spent most of a tool’s durability. The reserve protects the request queue without forcing an extra shop trip.

Use fishing to learn Heartopia’s clearest failure signal

Annie enrolls you in the D.G. Member’s Guild, and Vanya’s damaged rod creates the handoff into fishing. Repair the rod when prompted, claim the Contribution Medal progress, and use the Hobby Expansion Ticket on Vanya when the quest directs you to unlock Fishing.

Each hobby has a visible fail signal. Learn to read it before chasing rare collection entries.

For the first catch, aim at a visible fish shadow and cast close enough to attract it. The line color is your control signal after the bite:

  • Normal tension: reel and pull the fish toward you.
  • Yellow tension: ease off before the line escalates.
  • Red tension: stop reeling until the danger clears.

The tutorial asks for ordinary successful catches, not a rare species. If fish keep escaping, shorten each reel burst instead of changing locations or spending more bait. Return to Vanya only after the quest counter has registered the catches.

Annie’s next call moves the route toward the town center. Follow it. The cat encounter and Dorothee’s shop tasks are part of the same opening chain: return the poster, sort the boxes, and use the fitting-room step so the clothing shop and portable outfit change state register correctly.

Atara’s Resident Requests are the real pacing system

The furniture-store reopening leads to Atara, who introduces Resident Requests. Open the request list before spending the fish, crops, timber, or ore you already hold. The efficient move is not to grind one activity for hours; it is to preserve a small spread of common handoff items.

Your early requests teach three different proof states:

  1. Deliver a fish to Vanya. Any acceptable fish completes the need; the bait reward also teaches you to replace consumables.
  2. Grow and sell crops. The request is not complete when the seed is planted. It completes after harvest and the required sale or handoff.
  3. Earn Gold and expand the property. Selling random materials may satisfy the currency portion, but plot availability still depends on the D.G. reward state and a purchase inside the Guild interface.

Do not memorize a January medal table as a permanent schedule. Check the live D.G. screen for the next requirement and available reward. The stable rule is that completed requests award the progression currency; simply gathering, decorating, or waiting near an NPC does not.

Start gardening with a quest-sized plot

When Blanc appears at home, buy the planters and seeds the current tutorial requests. Place the planters inside the editable home boundary, select seeds from the backpack, plant them, then water them with the tool shown in your Toolbox. Recheck later for growth, weeds, and the harvest prompt.

A large farm is a poor opening investment. It consumes Gold, attention, and storage before you know which crop a request or recipe needs. Begin with enough planters to clear the tutorial and maintain a few request items. Expand only when one of these is true:

  • a Resident Request needs more output than the starter beds can provide;
  • your chosen hobby consumes crops faster than you can replace them;
  • a D.G. reward has made another plot available and you can purchase it without delaying a required unlock.

While the first crops grow, complete Bob’s furniture-set lesson. Accept the relevant Town Guide task, learn the Joinery Set recipe, craft each required piece, and place the set in Build Mode. If the game does not recognize the set, verify that every required component is on the same valid home plot and that the build was confirmed rather than left in preview.

Plot expansion is a D.G. and Gold decision. The finished estate can wait until the progression gate is safe.

Unlocking a plot and owning it are separate states

When the early request asks for more home plots, open the D.G. Member’s Guild from the Watch and enter its plot management view. A level reward can make land eligible without purchasing it for you. Select the available plot and confirm the Gold cost shown in the current client. If the request stays incomplete, return to the home boundary and verify that the new section is active rather than merely highlighted in the Guild screen.

Take the free vehicle, then choose the hobby that fixes your bottleneck

Andrew supplies an opening vehicle and asks for a test drive. Ride it, dismount, and speak to him again so the vehicle-store unlock registers. Keep the free vehicle until travel is genuinely limiting your sessions. Premium or high-cost alternatives do not unlock the next story step.

The next elective hobby is presented through three mentors: Naniwa for Insect Catching, Bailey J for Birdwatching, and Massimo for Cooking. There is no evidence-supported permanent best choice for every player. Choose by the constraint you currently feel:

Cooking
Choose it if crops and fish are filling storage, you want a use for ingredients, or portable stamina recovery would reduce interruptions. The cooking interaction requires attention; respond to the live stir prompt instead of assuming the stove is passive.
Insect Catching
Choose it if collection and field observation are the attraction. Approach slowly and charge the net from a distance. A startled insect is a positioning failure, not a signal to swing faster.
Birdwatching
Choose it if you enjoy photography and behavior timing. Frame the bird without crowding it, and watch for actions that the scanner can record. If it leaves, reset your distance before trying again.

Later Hobby Expansion Tickets let you open the others. Do not delay the main route trying to prove the first choice was optimal; make one choice, learn its fail signal, and preserve the next ticket for the missing system.

The Astralis route is a four-region handoff

At the appropriate D.G. checkpoint, a mysterious letter arrives in the mailbox. If the quest marker does not appear, confirm the letter was opened and the D.G. upgrade was claimed. Speak to Andrew, then follow the story to Patti and Cassie in the forest.

At the observation deck, climb the stairs and take the requested landscape photo from the marked area. Give timber to the bird lover and branches to the backpacker when the quest asks. Cassie’s jump sequence contains a useful control lesson: hold jump longer for the higher bubble rather than searching for a hidden ramp. At the final forest state, mine the moving tree with the pickaxe, then return to Cassie.

The follow-up visits three more regions. Treat each as a short material or interaction check, not a full collection sweep:

Region Required route Failure signal
Fishing Village Speak to Martin, find Bill, gather the requested quality timber and ore, then return Mining ordinary smooth rocks when the quest needs ore-bearing pointed rocks
Flower Field Meet Vernie, find the two teenagers, equip the instrument, and play for each one Talking with an empty hand instead of holding the quest instrument
Onsen Mountain Meet Eric at Adventure Park, follow the westward mountain hint, mine the moving blue Fluorite target, and return Breaking ordinary nodes or treating energy bubbles as the quest mineral

Return to Andrew after the regional stories register. Dorothee’s Custom Closets lesson can then be completed as another permanent interface unlock. It is useful, but it does not require buying a new wardrobe: assign an outfit to the requested situation and confirm the closet state.

Use DG7 as a readiness check, not a finish line

The launch walkthrough opens the first event layer around DG7 and introduces Happy Sea Fishing Time through Bill. Hosting uses the cost displayed in the current client and creates personal and group targets under a timer. Joining another player’s invitation can be the better opening choice because it preserves Gold while still teaching the event loop. Do not quote an old host fee back to the game if the live prompt differs.

In the July 2026 client, DG7 also matters because the official Call of Whales notice requires that level plus completion of The Answer Lies Within before Whalefall Canyon opens. Reaching the number alone is not enough. Your beginner route is ready to hand off when all of these are true:

  • the D.G. screen shows Level 7 claimed, not merely enough Contribution Medals;
  • Fishing and Gardening work without an active tutorial blocker;
  • one elective hobby is unlocked and its mentor introduction is complete;
  • the forest and regional Astralis handoffs have returned you to Andrew;
  • your vehicle, Build Mode, plot management, and Resident Request interfaces are available;
  • the current story tracker exposes the next main objective or event gate.

If the current event portal remains closed, follow the named main quest rather than farming more collections. If the story is waiting for D.G. progress, finish the next available Resident Requests rather than repeating the last region. That distinction—story state versus daily progression—is the key to every early Heartopia stall.

What to leave for the second route

Do not turn the DG7 push into an accidental completion challenge. Leave rare fish, full bird and insect catalogs, every bubble, pet traits, elaborate flower breeding, seasonal exchange shops, and cosmetic pull planning for their own sessions. They are not required to prove the opening systems work.

Keep only a practical reserve: one repair option, common building materials, a few ordinary catches, a few harvested crops, and enough free storage to accept a request reward. When that reserve exists and both queues are visible, Heartopia stops feeling like a town of unrelated icons. Each login has a clear choice: advance the permanent quest, clear the request list, or prepare the exact item that blocks one of them.
