Ashes of Creation Opening Paths: Order vs Wisdom Quest Route

An Ashes of Creation character following a quest marker through Verra

Ashes of Creation begins by asking for a commitment before it explains the consequences. Gatewatcher Bronsen sends a new character west on Order and Conquest; Gatewatcher Al-Shaari sends one east on Wisdom and Renewal. The first route frames its tutorial as a military investigation. The second uses poisoned food, field evidence, and a trip to Briarmoor Farm. Both eventually test the same practical skills: bind at an Emberspring, inspect the object that advances a quest, gather low-tier plants, turn them into thread, sew a Simple Rucksack, and deliver a heavy supply crate.

This is a route for the final documented Steam Early Access build, not a promise that the MMO is currently accessible. It shows how to preserve each quest’s dependency chain and how to recognize the state that unlocks the next step. It does not cover leveling zones, caravans, archetype builds, nodes, guilds, PvP, or planned systems that never reached a stable release.

Choose the tutorial whose evidence you want to track

The choice changes the names, landscape, and investigation in the middle of the opening. It does not create two unrelated progression systems. Both sides start at the Ruins of Aela, use an Emberspring as a resurrection point, move through a regional story, and end with a crafting-and-delivery lesson.

Decision Order and Conquest Wisdom and Renewal
First contact Gatewatcher Bronsen Gatewatcher Al-Shaari
Direction from Aela West toward Lionhold East toward Samia’s Hope
Middle-route proof A pamphlet, inspected enemies, a Seer, and three corrupted tendrils A dead drop, ration bags, enemy drops, a Seer, and the Vessel of Vahzur
Crafting settlement Aven’s End Briarmoor Farm
Completion object A supply crate placed on the construction platform A supply crate placed on the barn platform

Choose Order if you want a cleaner chain of named military handoffs and combat inspections. Choose Wisdom if you prefer an investigation where interactable props matter as much as defeated enemies. Do not choose based on the expectation of skipping gathering or crafting: the routes converge on that lesson before either tutorial is finished.

Both openings have three locks

Most stalls come from treating the quest marker as the entire instruction. The marker gets you into the correct area, but the next objective often waits for a separate state change.

  1. Conversation lock: talk to the named local authority and, when required, the Rootwarden before touching the nearby Emberspring. If the quest does not update after attunement, return to the last named NPC instead of riding toward the next settlement.
  2. Evidence lock: killing an enemy is sometimes only the first half of the objective. Inspect the body, dropped item, crate, ration bag, tendril, or ritual object that proves the investigation advanced.
  3. Delivery lock: carrying the final crate into the destination is not enough. Put it on the marked wooden platform, then speak to the quest giver again.

The safe habit is to read the objective immediately after every interaction. If the verb changes from defeat to inspect, stop fighting. If it changes from carry to place, stop walking. If it changes to report, return to the named NPC before starting another activity.

Order and Conquest: keep the evidence chain intact

Reach Lionhold with the first bind complete

Speak to Gatewatcher Bronsen in the Ruins of Aela and take the western path. Pick up a starter weapon you can operate comfortably, attune at the first Emberspring, and kill the five Wretched Goblins requested on the road. The kill count is not the arrival state. Continue to Lionguard Nottingford, then follow his handoff to Helmlord Avenmoor in Lionhold.

Avenmoor’s next step, Emberbound, adds an order dependency: speak to the Rootwarden near Lionhold’s Emberspring before attuning there. Return to Avenmoor after the bind. If the next quest does not appear, verify those two interactions in that order; killing more goblins will not replace either one.

Turn Halbert’s search into a physical clue

For A Shadow of Proof, leave Lionhold through the southern exit and angle west to find Inquisitor Culsberry. His marker points toward the missing miller’s apprentice, but the useful object is by a small group of crates in the search area. Wolves and ravens show that you are near the correct field. Search the crate area until the investigation produces the Gnawed Pamphlet, then carry that evidence back to Culsberry.

The failure signal is simple: reaching the marker without a pamphlet means the search is incomplete. Do not report back empty-handed, and do not assume every hostile creature in the circle is a required kill.

Inspect the correct bodies at Lumber Landing

Kindling Awaits Flame moves west to Lumber Landing. Cross the river at the marked section; the bridge and the water both reach the hostile side. Defeat at least one Robed Stranger and one Highwayman, then inspect the remains so the evidence registers. The quest is not asking for a farming loop. Once both enemy types and their inspection states are complete, return to Culsberry and then report the Sighted connection to Avenmoor.

If the objective still names an enemy after a kill, check whether the defeated body exposed an interaction. If one enemy type is missing, move across the local camp instead of repeatedly clearing the first spawn group.

Use the Seer to unlock the corruption test

For A Better View, go to the Temple Grounds. Defeat the five Gravehide Goblins requested by the counter, then find and defeat a Gravehide Seer. The Seer is the important escalation; inspect it before reporting to Ritualist Merwyn. She provides the Heartwood Extract for The Root of the Problem.

Warhelm Garrison is beside Merwyn’s position. Climb the structure until the objective recognizes the upper area, then look for three corrupted tendrils with a faint green glow. Apply the extract to each one. The route advances only after all three interactions, so count successful uses rather than the number of green objects you can see. Return to Lionhold when the objective changes to reporting the result.

Move west only after Bearing Ill Tidings appears

Avenmoor’s next handoff sends supplies toward Aven’s End. This is the point where the investigation becomes a trade tutorial. Find Trades Minister Duane near the Smithy. If no Simple Rucksack task appears, you probably arrived before completing the report at Lionhold; backtrack to Avenmoor instead of trying random crafting stations.

Wisdom and Renewal: read props before chasing drops

Bind at Samia’s Hope before searching east

Speak to Gatewatcher Al-Shaari at Aela and leave by the eastern route. Kill the five Sickly Goblins requested on the road, meet Sunfire Asim Aslam, and continue to Amir Arkour in Samia’s Hope. For Of the Rootways, talk to the Rootwarden standing by the settlement’s Emberspring, attune, and return to Amir.

The two early binds are deliberate checkpoints. If the quest log still names the Emberspring after you used it, confirm that the Rootwarden conversation fired and that you returned to the current quest giver. The next investigation begins only after that loop closes.

Find the dead drop inside the ruined building

No Plan Survives starts with Sly Zareem, held behind Jailer Qasim. Exhaust the conversation until the eastern tower and ruined-building lead is exposed. Leave Samia’s Hope through its eastern exit, pass the Hooded Stranger camp, and enter the ruin just beyond it. The dead drop is not an outdoor enemy reward; it is a stash of crates inside the building.

Visit in daylight if the interior is too dark to read. Search the rooms rather than circling the quest marker outside. Interact with the crate stash to recover the flatbread, then take it back to Amir.

Separate the ration inspection from the enemy drop

Amir sends the suspicious bread to Cleric Beyam near a cart by the eastern gate. In Hungry for More, Beyam asks for more of the red contaminant. Return toward the Hooded Stranger camp near the ruin and complete two distinct checks:

  • inspect the ration bags beside the tents;
  • defeat Hooded Strangers until one produces the quest item, then pick it up.

One action does not substitute for the other. A cleared camp with an unchanged objective usually means the ration prop was missed. Inspected bags with a remaining combat objective mean the required enemy drop has not registered. Return to Beyam only after the objective points back to him.

Climb Eastwatch Rise for the Vessel, not the roots

Hand Eye Coordination sends you toward the ruined walls east of Samia’s Hope. Move through the Bonebinder Creepers until you reach the marked groups, defeat a Gravehide Seer, and collect the item it drops. Beyam then gives you Heartwood Extract for The Great Mirage.

Circle the mountain to reach the top of Eastwatch Rise. Inside the upper floor, find the larger room with an urn in its center: this is the Vessel of Vahzur. Use the extract on that object. The route does not ask Wisdom characters to repeat Order’s three-tendril interaction. If you are searching for glowing roots, you are following the other path’s solution.

Return to Amir after the Vessel updates. His Short Term Service handoff sends you on the long ride to Briarmoor Farm. Speak to Loretta Briarmoor and then Workhand Nobles to start the Simple Rucksack lesson.

The routes converge at a crafting exam

Order characters craft at Aven’s End for Trades Minister Duane. Wisdom characters craft at Briarmoor Farm for Workhand Nobles. The stations and dependency are the same:

  1. Gather five units from a low-tier white flower patch that your starting certification can harvest.
  2. Buy five Drawtwine Wax and one Packwright’s Universal Strap Set from the local Textile Vendor.
  3. Use the Weaving Station to turn the flowers and wax into five Coarse Thread.
  4. Use the Sewing Station to combine the thread with the strap set into a Simple Rucksack.
  5. Show the finished rucksack to the quest giver before leaving for the crate.

The captured routes disagree on whether the starter white flower is labeled Snowbell or Snowdrop. Do not spend time chasing the disputed name. Target a white-flowered patch whose live gathering prompt does not demand the Journeyman Herbalism certificate. If the interaction is locked, move to another low-tier patch rather than buying a profession promotion solely for this tutorial.

Protect enough Glint to pay the Textile Vendor. Sell only what is needed for the five wax units and strap set until the rucksack is complete. The objective is a working recipe chain, not an early profit strategy. At Aven’s End, the documented vendor is north of the Emberspring and the Weaving Station is in the large hut behind the textile vendor area. At Briarmoor Farm, the textile stations are southeast of the Emberspring.

Crafting the thread is an intermediate state. If the Sewing Station does not offer a valid rucksack craft, verify that five completed threads were collected from the Weaving Station and that the strap set is in the usable inventory. If the quest does not advance after sewing, return to Duane or Workhand Nobles with the item before starting the delivery.

Finish by placing the crate

Order characters take a requisition slip west across the river to Quartermaster Lynne, choose a supply crate, and carry it back to the construction site south of Duane. Wisdom characters go southeast from Briarmoor Farm to Alchemist Biarne, pick up the nearby supplies, and return them to the barn platform in front of Workhand Nobles.

The crate slows movement, including mounted movement. You can put it down temporarily, but dropping it is a pause, not a delivery. Keep the route simple: clear or avoid threats before lifting it, use the known road back, and watch for the platform interaction at the destination. After placing the crate, speak to the local quest giver one final time.

The completion proof is not an empty back slot. It is the placed crate plus the closing conversation. If the NPC still offers delivery dialogue, check the wooden platform for an interaction point before retracing the entire route.

Diagnose a stalled quest from the missing verb

What you see Likely missing state Next check
An Emberspring was used, but the quest did not move Rootwarden or return conversation Speak to the Rootwarden, attune again if offered, then report to the named authority.
The search marker is empty An interactable prop inside the area Order: inspect the crates for Halbert’s pamphlet. Wisdom: enter the ruin and inspect the dead-drop stash.
The required enemies are dead, but the objective remains Body inspection, ration bags, or a dropped quest item Read the current verb and inspect the relevant remains or camp object.
Heartwood Extract is in the inventory The path-specific target Order uses three tendrils at Warhelm Garrison; Wisdom uses the Vessel of Vahzur upstairs at Eastwatch Rise.
Flowers cannot be gathered The patch requires a higher certification Find the low-tier white flowers supported by the opening route; do not force a locked patch.
The rucksack exists, but the crate quest is absent The crafted item was not shown to the quest giver Return to Duane or Workhand Nobles before traveling farther.
The crate reached the settlement, but the quest remains active Placement or closing conversation Put the crate on the marked wooden platform, then speak to the quest giver.

Because this was an alpha, a correct sequence could still fail from a broken object or quest state. The surviving official notes document recurring fixes to NPCs, quests, realms, and progression. If every required verb is complete and the next state never appears, record the last successful objective rather than inventing an alternate route. There is no current support promise to rely on.

Stop at the completed delivery

The natural endpoint is the final handoff at Aven’s End or Briarmoor Farm. By then you have proved the tutorial’s reusable loop: bind, follow a named handoff, turn a marker into evidence, distinguish a kill from an inspection, gather an accessible resource, complete a two-station recipe, and place a carried object before reporting.

Do not extend this archival route into a leveling plan or permanent build recommendation. The Steam Guides page contains separate POI and caravan guides, but their values depend on a realm population, economy, build, and service that can no longer be assumed. Planned secondary archetypes, future node stages, late naval systems, or promised release features are also outside the evidence boundary.

Identity, App ID, Windows platform, Early Access date, alpha warnings, update history, and the untouched 1920-by-1080 hero image were checked against the official Ashes of Creation Steam page, Steam appdetails, and the official Steam news archive. The two opening routes were reconciled from browser-recovered written walkthrough references. The 0.21 rollback and permanent studio closure were used only to set the archival boundary; video pages, cheat downloads, advertorials, future-tense system promises, and search summaries were not used for route facts.
