Dr Livingstone Walkthrough: All Rooms and Achievement Checkpoints

Entrance hall of Dr Livingstone I Presume Reversed Escape Room

The easiest way to get stuck in Dr Livingstone, I Presume? Reversed Escape Room is to treat a mechanism as a self-contained lock. It rarely is. The Kitchen scale needs four containers gathered across two floors. The Office clock is useless until a coin, a rubbed journal, a block tray, and a locked box have all paid off. The last dollhouse cannot be solved until four miniatures have been collected from different parts of the room.

This spoiler walkthrough follows that dependency chain from the front hall to the final butterfly key. Achievement actions are placed at the last convenient moment before moving on, including all 19 notes, the room-specific extras, the wrong-first dollhouse arrangement, and the Stanley comment checkpoints. Exact visual layouts for the Botanical rings, constellation, tangrams, and pipe boards are described by their clue and solved state rather than as brittle screen coordinates.

Set up the achievement run before solving anything

Steam currently lists 25 achievements. Seven are the natural room or game completions; the rest attach to an interaction, collectible set, or alternate puzzle state. Three habits keep the route clean:

  1. Use the journal hint advance five times. Open the journal after a puzzle or newly collected note, reveal the next available paragraph, close it, and repeat when another hint becomes available. Fortune-teller tracks five advances, not five random journal openings.
  2. Inspect for narration before leaving a space. Nostalgic depends on Stanley’s comments. Paintings, letters, odd shelves, broken objects, certificates, and blocked doors can all be narration triggers even when they do not enter the inventory.
  3. Keep a note total. The intended distribution is Corridor 1, Kitchen 2, Office 2, Upper Corridor 1, Botanical Room 3, Clinic 3, and Memory Room 7. That reaches 19 before the last door.

Controls can be rebound, so this route describes actions rather than assuming a specific keyboard layout. When an item appears not to fit, inspect and rotate it in the inventory first. Several “keys” only become usable after a hidden joint, spike ring, or clasp has been repositioned.

The Corridor key is inside a figure inside a drawer

Do the optional entrance actions first. Turn back and test the front door, try to jump once, and inspect paintings until Art connoisseur unlocks at ten. Enter the small side area, read note 1 from the bench, and inspect the cabinet opposite it. At the staircase, look at the wooden wall carving upstairs. These actions account for the easy-to-miss Corridor narration before the puzzle route moves forward.

The actual lock chain begins at the mask display:

  1. Pick up the loose mask near the seating area. Pull the right-hand wall mask down; this exposes the hook that the loose mask needs.
  2. Hang the loose mask on that hook. Take the spear from the compartment that opens.
  3. Go to the warrior figure on the small cabinet. Put the spear in its hand and pull the spear forward.
  4. Crouch and extend the concealed lower drawer. Take the monkey figure.
  5. Inspect the monkey in the inventory. Move both arms, then raise its head. The monkey-headed key is hidden inside.

Use that key on the Kitchen door to earn Hello…?. If the figure’s drawer did not open, the spear has not been pulled through its full travel. If the monkey still looks decorative, it has not been manipulated in the inventory.

Build the Kitchen scale from four separate supply lines

Do not start by guessing weights. The scale solution only becomes available after the room has produced ground pepper, three spice vials, water, heat, and steam.

Turn pepper, water, and heat into the fourth vial

Read note 2 near the entrance and collect the peppercorns. Put them in the grinder, work the handle, then take the ground pepper from its drawer. Inspect the nearby hourglass: invert it, align the dotted star on top, and remove the star. Turn it over in the inventory and press its center so it unfolds.

Search the opposite shelving for the paprika vial and take the corkscrew from the crate. In the left section, collect the bucket and the basil vial. Fit the unfolded star into the tall cabinet, rotate it, and remove the large crank. The adjacent workbench holds the empty kettle and note 3, the stew recipe.

Downstairs, take the rope. Attach rope and bucket to the well, lower it, install the large crank, engage its locking pin, and raise the full bucket. Fill the kettle before returning upstairs. Search the large table’s drawers for turmeric. Open the fuel container by the furnace for tinder and flint, then smell the stew for The Cook.

Light the furnace and heat the filled kettle. Rotate the kettle only after it boils so its steam enters the vent. The resulting pressure dislodges an empty vial onto the flour sack near the stairs. If nothing falls, either the kettle is dry, the fire is not established, or the spout is missing the vent.

Balance the tree without using turmeric as a weight

Seat the four containers in the scale base in this order from left to right: turmeric, paprika, basil, empty vial. Open the empty vial with the corkscrew and fill it with the ground pepper. For the three-vial solution required by Clever, leave turmeric in the base and hang only these three:

  • paprika on the upper-left branch;
  • basil on the lower-left branch;
  • ground pepper on the lower-right branch.

The tree should settle and release the elephant-headed key, earning Uncertainty. A balanced-looking tree that does not award Clever usually means turmeric was moved onto a branch or the filled vials were placed in different base slots before the attempt.

The Office is one code assembled from unrelated furniture

The Office exit is gated behind two parallel jobs: create 1827 and collect every shaped block. Work the room once in a loop instead of repeatedly crossing it.

Collect 18, 27, the blocks, and the clock tools

At the large desk, pull out the upper-left drawer far enough to read the message inside. Inspect both outside walls of that extended drawer and move each catch through its two positions. Close the drawer; a hidden compartment appears with a shaped block and a shilling. Turn the shilling over and record 27. Take the L-shaped block from the box on the desk’s other side.

At the smaller desk, read note 4, collect the oblong block from its drawer, and inspect the locked code-and-key box without forcing it. Read the nearby Bible for Faith. The shilling itself awards Penny pincher.

Search the bookcase for the screwdriver and five volumes marked I through V. Pull the numbered books forward in ascending Roman-numeral order. A holder falls and yields the clock’s winding key. In the lower fireplace area, take the charcoal. On the raised desk, read note 5, find the remaining loose block, and rub the charcoal across the journal page to expose 18.

Convert 1827 into the clock’s missing gears

Return to the shaped tray at the large desk and place every collected block into its matching silhouette. Rotate pieces rather than trying to overlap them; completion opens a small drawer containing a brass key. Then enter 1827 on the small desk box, retract its spear guards, use the brass key, and take the cogs.

Remove the two screws from the clock’s side panel. Set its movable guides to the tiny engraved registration marks, then bridge the gear train from left to right with large, medium, medium, small, large. Insert and turn the winding key until the whole train keeps moving. This earns Clockmaker.

For Patient, leave the clock running until it reaches the next full hour. The documented starting state makes that roughly a 15-minute wait to 9:00. Dragging the hand to XII may open the compartment, but it is not a reliable substitute for the achievement’s real-time wait. If you only want story progress, open the face and move the large hand to XII; for a 100% run, let it advance naturally.

Use the ostrich to topple the lion

Take the ostrich figure released above the clock face and place it on the unusual chess board near the fireplace. The pieces run on fixed paths, so this is an attack-routing puzzle, not a legal free-form chess position. Move the white pieces until their attack lines converge on the black lion and knock it down. If every move seems blocked, first confirm the ostrich is seated in the one empty mount.

Pick up the fallen lion, inspect its base, press the concealed control, and remove its crown to expose the lion-headed key. That completes Denial.

The upper landing is a two-trigger checkpoint

Use the lion key upstairs. On the landing, read note 6 from the table. Then attempt the blocked door near the far end for Unwelcome guest and its associated comment. The other door is the route into the Botanical Room. Do not skip this failed-door interaction: there is no puzzle reason to touch it, which makes it easy to miss during a direct clear.

The Botanical Room asks you to rotate clues between stations

This room contains several devices whose answer is displayed elsewhere in the same room. The useful question is not “what is the code?” but “which station is showing the reference for this lock?” Complete the figurine chain first, then the map rings, then the constellation, and finally the plant.

Follow three dioramas to the wall cabinet

Collect note 7 from the left corner bench and the small crank from the large pot. On the raised platform, take note 8. Play any three notes on the kalimba to summon the parrot, listen to its phrase, then answer with C-F-E-G-D-C. Take the dropped necklace, inspect it, and remove the small key. Play the kalimba again after the solve for Musician.

Take the traveler miniature from the plants on the center table. Use the necklace key on the corner-bench box to obtain the huntsman and chief figures. Now run the sightline chain:

  1. Place the huntsman in the raised-platform diorama and turn its mechanism to completion.
  2. Go where the huntsman points, place the traveler there, add the loose crank, and rotate it fully.
  3. At the next diorama, place the chief. If its crank does nothing, turn the companion figure around first, then try again.

The chief’s final direction identifies the carved wall cabinet. That pointing relationship is the verification signal; choosing a cabinet by appearance alone makes the next puzzle feel disconnected.

Use symmetry, compass orientation, and gravity on the rings

On the cabinet, complete the totem design on one side and mirror it on the other. Opening the doors reveals concentric rings and a compass rose. The nearby wall map is the reference pattern, but the compass shows that it must be interpreted sideways. Rotate the rings until their branching lines match that reoriented map.

A correct pattern changes the mechanism’s state. The second phase is no longer a picture-copy puzzle: turn the same rings to create a continuous downhill path for the small metal ball to reach the lower-left exit. Stop adjusting the decorative lines and watch the ball after every turn. The reward is a rose of Jericho.

Copy the telescope result, then wake the rose

Focus the telescope until individual stars become sharp, then pan until the complete constellation draws connecting lines. Reproduce that live shape on the caged lock. Because both focus and framing matter, a partial star field is not a valid clue; the straight connectors appearing is the signal that the reference is complete.

Open the cage, read note 9, and inspect the hammer and nails. Put the rose into the soil at the bench, water it, and rotate the round mirror until the reflected light lands on the plant. Take the rhino-headed key for Anger. Using it causes the floor transition into the Clinic rather than a normal doorway animation.

The Clinic alternates between making tools and returning them to the mannequin

The Clinic has two work zones. The first creates a fish key and a wooden arm. The decontamination room then creates a stethoscope. Both are returned to the central mannequin before the serpent key can be removed. Keeping those handoffs in order prevents most dead ends.

Make the spiked ball key and read the head

After the fall, take note 10 from the small desk and inspect the certificate above it. Fit the loose pieces into the cross outline and take the completed cross handle. Also inspect the bottoms of the three marked controls and record their values:

  • circle = 11;
  • square = 71;
  • triangle = 18.

In the curtained side room, put the cross handle beside the one already mounted on the wall and rotate both to open the ball machine. Its target is the central catch. Move the first stop so the long carrier can shift, lower the third gate, draw back and launch the ball, then lower the fourth gate and launch again. Use the machine’s visible changes as checkpoints: the first shot repositions the internal return path; the second should drop the ball into the receiver. If it returns to the start unchanged, a gate was lowered before its carrier had moved.

Inspect the recovered ball and extend its spiked cylinder. At the boarded-window hatch, compare each spike ring with the lock profile and rotate the four rings to match. Insert and lift the fitted key, open the drawer, and collect the missing magnifying lens. Open the surgical kit while you are there.

Add the lens to the array facing the head diagram. Move the lenses until the labels 1 through 6 can be read, then press the corresponding regions on the physical head in this order:

  1. just above the left eye;
  2. above and behind the left ear;
  3. immediately in front of the left ear;
  4. behind the right ear;
  5. above and behind the right eye;
  6. the large lower section at the back of the head.

The head releases the fish key. Nearby, read note 11. If the sixth press resets the device, re-check the lens view; clicking a neighboring anatomical plate is the usual error.

Use the shape sums to give the mannequin an arm

The large chest combines two of the symbols recorded earlier. Add their values rather than concatenating them:

  • For the circle-and-square cover, set 82.
  • For the triangle-and-circle cover, set 29.
  • For the square-and-triangle cover, set 89.

Set those three results on the corresponding covered dials and take the wooden arm. Attach it to the mannequin and draw it back to expose the chest pattern. The fish key now opens the decontamination room, awarding Go deeper.

Turn the autoclave failure into a cabinet tool

Inside the second room, read note 12, take the small valve from the basin, and collect matches from the workbench drawer. Start the machine by opening its gas supply, lighting the burner, and raising the flame until steam reaches the next stage.

Use the three transfer levers to accumulate enough fluid or pressure in the final chamber to feed the lid section. Raise and twist the installed left valve; fit the loose valve on the right and close it the same way. Then drive each of the three gauges to its marked maximum. The cracked gauge is intentional: remove its pointer and slide that thin piece upward between the doors of the locked cabinet.

Take the stethoscope. Back at the mannequin, inspect its end in the inventory and reshape it to match the pattern revealed by the wooden arm. Fit it to the chest, then remove the bone cutter from the surgical set and open the chest for Wearing heart on sleeve.

The exposed mechanism has two routing passes. First rotate connectors until the red supply reaches the central organ. Then reconfigure the network so blue reaches the remaining target organs. Treat lit segments as continuity tests; if a branch stays dark, follow it backward to the first connector pointing away from the source.

Open the mannequin’s arm compartment, take the scalpel from the surgical kit, and cut the exposed tendons. Remove the serpent-headed key and leave for Depression.

Repair the floor before entering the last room

Back in the Botanical Room, return to the hole created by the fall. Pull the large board down from its right side so it bridges the gap. That awards Stopgap. Continue through the now-accessible door.

The Memory Room must be solved wrong before it is solved right

This is the final collection and the final puzzle. Do not open the butterfly-key door until the note counter is 19 and the room’s drawers and narration objects are exhausted.

Collect four miniatures, one ring, and seven notes

Take note 13 from the small table near the entrance and the miniature telescope from the statue’s hand. At the desk, collect notes 14, 15, and 16. Pull the cord beside the purple curtain, rub the dirty painting until its image clears, and take the gold ring from its lower-right corner.

Near the large map, take the miniature mannequin from the small shelving and collect note 17. At the family portrait desk, read note 18; note 19 is on the vase beside the portrait. That should award True journalist.

Now work around the central pillar and attempt every drawer. Some drawers release only after another one has moved, while others are intentionally fixed. Keep circling the cabinet until every movable drawer has been opened; this awards Nosy and yields the miniature stove and miniature clock.

Trigger Memory problems, then use each room’s signature object

Open the lion’s mouth on the side panel, insert the gold ring, and pull it to expose the five-room dollhouse. Before entering the sensible answer, place the four miniatures in this deliberately incorrect arrangement:

  • Botanical Room, upper left: clock;
  • Clinic, lower left: stove;
  • Office, lower middle: telescope;
  • Kitchen, lower right: mannequin.

Wait for Memory problems to register, then remove all four. The correct arrangement follows the room in which each object belongs:

  • Botanical Room: telescope;
  • Clinic: mannequin;
  • Office: clock;
  • Kitchen: stove.

One older text walkthrough repeats “mannequin” for the Kitchen in its correct list. That duplicate cannot complete the four-object board; the Kitchen takes the stove. The panel opening above the rooms is the confirmation that all four placements are accepted.

Take the miniature pillar from that upper compartment and put it in the remaining upper-right room. A lower compartment opens with a wrapped bundle. Unfold it in the inventory and take the butterfly-headed key for Hope.

Once the totals are correct, use the butterfly key on the last door. Opening it completes the game and awards Dr Livingstone, I presume?. If Nostalgic is still missing, do not search the final puzzle again: the usual omissions are the wooden phrase carving above the first staircase, the blocked door on the upper landing, the Office’s empty portrait space, or one of the Botanical Room’s broken objects.

Recover a stalled puzzle by checking its missing handoff

When an interaction will not advance, compare your state with the reward that should already be in the inventory:

  • No Kitchen vial: the kettle must contain well water, be boiling over a lit furnace, and face the steam vent.
  • No Office box key: the block tray is incomplete; re-check the hidden desk compartment, desk box, small desk drawer, and raised desk drawer.
  • Clock moves but gives no Patient: it was manually advanced. Leave it running to a full hour on another attempt.
  • Botanical chief will not rotate: turn the other figure in that diorama before moving the crank.
  • Constellation lock seems arbitrary: refocus and pan until the telescope itself draws the connecting lines.
  • Clinic head resets: the lens board is the ordered key; do not infer numbers from anatomical shape or size.
  • Stethoscope will not attach: reshape its end in the inventory to match the pattern revealed by the wooden arm.
  • Dollhouse will not open: the final lower-right object is the stove, and the intentionally wrong arrangement must be removed before entering the correct set.

Sources and build boundary: The official Steam listing for Dr Livingstone, I Presume? supplied the identity, release metadata, 25-achievement count, and image provenance. The room route was rebuilt from readable, cross-checked walkthrough references. The supplied Steam Community guides display removed/incompatible warnings and were therefore used only as limited achievement indexes. Steam exposes no public semantic version for the current build, so live visual patterns and in-game feedback take priority over any older screenshot arrangement.
