Fixer Undercover Stuck Guide: Puzzle Checks and Softlock Recovery

A dead lever and an unfinished puzzle can look identical in Fixer Undercover. The useful test is not how long you have searched. It is whether the room still reacts to the correct tool, whether its status lights have changed, and whether the object you need can still be grabbed.

This guide covers verified roadblocks and recovery checks rather than pretending to provide a seven-chapter walkthrough. It was checked on August 1, 2026, after the July 17 and July 30 Steam updates. Those patches changed several interactions, so update the game before following an older workaround.

What you see What it usually means First action
The target is reachable, but your hands cannot do the required job An environmental object or a different toolbox item is the missing input Match the action to the object; do not build an improvised platform unless the scene supports it
A gauge or indicator changes, but the completion light stays off The puzzle is still live Keep adjusting toward the room’s success range
Prerequisite lights are green, but the final lever cannot be grabbed The room state is complete and the interaction may be stuck Confirm the July 30 update, then restart the game or VR runtime
You load outside the playable space or without Winston and the tools The saved pose or chapter start has loaded incorrectly Recenter outside the game, relaunch, then use Restart Chapter
A placed object vanishes before the room acknowledges it The object state may not have registered Reload the nearest checkpoint before searching the whole room again

Update first when a solved mechanism will not move

The July 30 update specifically fixed VR levers that could become non-interactable after being released and returning to their starting position. It also changed grab points and collisions. The earlier July 17 update fixed a permanently locked wrench interaction and several chapter-specific blockers in the flat version.

That makes build state part of the puzzle check. If Steam has a pending download, finish it and relaunch before resetting progress. After updating, repeat the room’s visible prerequisite once. If the completion light changes and the target becomes active, the save is usable. If the prerequisite is already complete but the target remains dead, move to recovery instead of re-solving the logic.

  • Chapter 2: a light beam that remained after cutting the first wire was listed as fixed on July 17.
  • Chapter 5: the floor plate falsely accepting loose objects and an unresponsive second bowl of apples were listed as fixed.
  • Chapter 6: locked control-panel buttons and a gem clipping into its pedestal were listed as fixed.
  • Chapter 7: planks were changed so the flat version pulls them off with a click.

If your current scene behaves like one of those old reports, do not treat the old behavior as an extra puzzle rule. Confirm the update, reload, and test the intended interaction again.

The ceiling button is a reach puzzle, not a climbing puzzle

In the early gear room, the yellow ceiling button tempts flat-screen players to jump onto furniture or throw loose objects. That is the wrong test. The verified solution is to use the broom as an extension and press the button from the floor.

The failure signal is useful: if a chair cannot be climbed and carried clutter cannot support the player, the scene is not teaching object stacking. Look for a long item that can transmit a simple push. After the broom contacts the button, watch for the gear mechanism to react before moving on.

This report first appeared during the Steam demo period. Use it only when the current room still presents the same ceiling button and broom. If the layout has changed, follow the visible interaction feedback rather than forcing the old geometry.

Set the sink gauge by feedback, not by screw order

The sink repair hint mentions turning a gauge screw with the wrench, which can sound like a sequence puzzle. The developer’s current answer is a pressure target: set the gauge between 500 and 600. A green light is the confirmation that the pressure state is accepted.

Treat the screws as controls for one measured result. Turn one, observe the needle, and keep the adjustment that moves pressure toward the accepted band. There is no reason to memorize a universal screw order when the gauge itself exposes the state. Stop as soon as the reading is inside the range and the green light turns on.

If the needle enters the range but the light never changes, release the wrench cleanly and retry after a checkpoint reload. A frozen wrench interaction was addressed in the July 17 update, so persistent non-response after an update is a recovery problem, not evidence for a different pressure value.

Two green generator lights change the Upper Corridor diagnosis

At the Upper Corridor door, two green generator-room lights are the checkpoint. If either light is not green, the power route is unfinished. If both are green and the door lever cannot be grabbed, the reported problem is interaction state rather than generator logic.

  1. Confirm both generator indicators, then stop touching the power controls.
  2. Check that the July 30 update is installed; its notes name this lever failure pattern.
  3. Quit and relaunch the game. For Steam Link or SteamVR, restart the VR runtime as well.
  4. Load the last checkpoint and pull the lever in one continuous motion. Do not release it halfway and immediately grab again.
  5. If the same saved state remains broken, use Restart Chapter before considering any profile-level reset.

A pre-patch developer reply recommended a game restart and, for Steam Link, a SteamVR restart. The later patch is the stronger current boundary. The restart is still the smallest recovery step because it preserves more progress than deleting a profile.

Kozlov’s office must reveal the answer before it accepts it

Several apparent code problems in Director Viktor Kozlov’s office are really missing handoffs. The Secretary sequence asks you to continue the pattern shown by the previous numbers. One player reported that a stylized 7 looked like a 1; read every displayed digit before calculating the missing entry. A community reply suggested 16, but did so tentatively, so the reliable method is to derive the final value from the visible sequence rather than treating 16 as a permanent code.

The window and food-elevator chain has a stricter gate:

  1. Use the computer’s phone directory to identify the food-elevator contact.
  2. Lift the phone receiver, dial that contact, and wait for the conversation to finish.
  3. Let the food elevator close, travel down, and return. The doors should open after the completed delivery cycle; you do not pry them open manually.
  4. Use the delivered apples to interact with the window setup and expose the code in the environment.
  5. Only then enter the observed code. A player who tried the value after a restart found that knowing it early did not bypass the scene trigger.

If the call does not advance, isolate the failed handoff: receiver to ear, digits entered, audible conversation, elevator movement, return, then doors opening. Repeating the final code cannot repair a missing phone or delivery state.

Environmental clues are also progress gates. Seeing or deriving a number is not always enough if the phone, delivery, window, or inspection event that authorizes it has not occurred. Official Steam screenshot.

Recover a vanished fuse before searching for a replacement

One Chapter 1 report describes the second fuse disappearing as soon as it was placed. The player recovered by reloading the chapter. There is no developer confirmation or published permanent fix attached to that report, so treat it as a limited symptom, not a universal rule.

Before reloading, check whether the fuse indicator changed. If the room acknowledged the fuse, continue from the new state even if the model is no longer visible. If neither the slot nor the circuit changed, reload the nearest checkpoint and insert the fuses one at a time, waiting for feedback after each. Do not spend time hunting for a third fuse unless the room’s inventory or indicator proves one is missing.

Recenter outside the game when Chapter 6 loads below the elevator

A VR player reported returning from the intermission before Chapter 6 outside the elevator, falling into a lower round room, and loading without Winston or the tool set. Restarting the game alone preserved the bad position. Their successful recovery was:

  1. Close Fixer Undercover and SteamVR.
  2. Recenter the headset in the active VR runtime; the reported setup used Pimax Play.
  3. Start SteamVR and the game again.
  4. Load the affected save, open Options, and choose Restart Chapter.

The impossible geometry is the decisive signal. A legitimate Chapter 6 start should not remove Winston and the tools or place the player below the elevator route. Do not solve objects in the lower room as if it were a secret path, and do not overwrite more checkpoints by exploring farther.

A developer also confirmed a pre-patch handle state that could fail after a handle was released in mid-air and returned to its starting position; the advised fallback was to load the last checkpoint. The July 30 lever fix may prevent that exact failure now, but it does not make an already damaged position into intended progression. Recenter, reload, and restart the chapter in that order.

Do not use demo profile deletion as routine recovery

A developer posted Windows profile locations for clearing demo saves: the flat build used LocalLowCreativityARFixer_Flat, while PCVR used LocalLowCreativityARFixer. Files beginning with Profile0, Profile1, or Profile2 corresponded to the left, center, and right slots.

That answer is explicitly demo-scoped and deletes progress. It is not the first fix for a current full-game room. Use the current update, checkpoint reload, runtime restart, recenter, and Restart Chapter options first. If you ever investigate profile files, back up the entire folder and verify the current build still uses the same names before changing anything.

Stop when the evidence changes from puzzle to bug

Use three checkpoints to decide whether another attempt is worthwhile:

  • State: Did the gauge, light, phone call, elevator, circuit, or tool response change?
  • Gate: Has the room shown the clue or completed the event that authorizes the next input?
  • Interaction: Can the required object still be grabbed and moved after the prerequisites are complete?

If state is still changing, keep solving. If the gate has not fired, trace the missing handoff. If the gate is complete but the interaction is dead, preserve progress and recover the runtime or checkpoint. That distinction solves more current roadblocks than importing an early-access code or repeating a completed generator route.

Evidence boundary: The supplied Steam Community page is a removed/incompatible, video-only early-access index. It confirms the seven-chapter labeling and says its recording omitted intermissions, but it does not provide readable puzzle steps. No video is embedded or used to invent a route. The puzzle checks above come from readable Steam discussions, including developer replies, and are bounded by the official July 17 and July 30 patch notes.
