Spirit of the North hides its hardest completion check behind a dependency the Chapter 7 objective does not explain. You must awaken all 28 shamans across Chapters 1–6 before all 28 spirits can be greeted in the Spirit World. Reaching Chapter 7 with even one earlier shaman missing leaves Kindred Spirits impossible on that visit.
The safe route is therefore not “finish the story, then collect everything.” Keep one save, record each staff-and-body pair as you pass it, fold the short action achievements into natural pauses, and use Chapter Select only to repair a known gap. This guide is a completion route and recovery checklist, not a room-by-room solution for every story puzzle.
Completion boundary: this route covers the original Spirit of the North identified by Steam AppID 1213700. Silver Lining Interactive checked with the team and reported no known current PC-versus-console difference in staff positions. If a staff is not at the described landmark, search the same small encounter area and note your platform and game version when reporting the discrepancy.
The 100% run hinges on a 28-to-28 handoff
There are two different sets of 28 that are easy to confuse. In Chapters 1–6, a shaman is awakened only after you bring its staff to the body. In Chapter 7, those awakened shamans appear as spirits. Approach each one until it sees the fox and bows; passing a spirit without the bow does not count. The publisher confirmed that None Forgotten must unlock before Kindred Spirits, and the 28 Chapter 7 greetings do not have to happen in one play session.
| Phase | What counts | Failure signal | Recovery |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chapters 1–6 | Staff delivered to its matching shaman body | Fewer than 28 awakened before Chapter 7 | Reload the listed chapter part on the same save |
| Chapter 7 | Spirit performs its greeting as you enter range | A visible spirit never reacts, or the final group does not unlock the achievement | Back out of its trigger radius, return, and wait for patrols or delayed spawns |
| Other achievements | Required action or cumulative counter completes | The achievement does not appear at the expected checkpoint | Repeat one controlled action and confirm progress before replaying a whole chapter |
Chapter Select is a repair tool, not permission to overwrite the run. Collectible progress is reported to persist when you revisit chapters on the same save, while starting a new game creates the obvious reset risk. Before cleanup, make a platform-level backup if available, choose Chapter Select rather than New Game, and test the system with one missing shaman before committing to a long sweep.
Chapters 1–3: mark every staff before changing the terrain
The first eight shamans teach the recurring rule: the staff and body are usually separated by a traversal or puzzle state. Do not assume that finding one half means you can return later without friction. In the water-control chapter especially, finish the delivery while the local route is open.
| No. | Load point | Staff-to-body checkpoint |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Chapter 1, Part 1 | Story-required awakening; use it to confirm what a completed delivery looks like. |
| 2 | Chapter 1, Part 2 | After opening the bark wall and completing the slide sequence, take the uphill branch. The staff and body sit on opposite sides of the rise. |
| 3 | Chapter 1, Part 4 | Turn left after the first slide. Retrieve the staff from the building and bring it to the body outside. |
| 4 | Chapter 2, Part 1 | In the chamber with a mural and fox statue, search the right wall for the staff. Continue after the guiding spirit; the body is beside the red mural in the next room. |
| 5 | Chapter 2, Part 1 | Follow the spirit to a staff in a shaft of light. Past the next red mural, look left as the snowy section ends; the body rests on a table. |
| 6 | Chapter 3, Part 1 | Beyond the first lit pillar, use the junction with the mural as your anchor. Climb the right slope for the staff, then cross the raised platforms toward the body by the wall. |
| 7 | Chapter 3, Part 2 | During the water-level sequence, check the split near the flowers for a staff. Continue the raise-and-drain cycle; the body becomes reachable in the drained space below the later pillar. |
| 8 | Chapter 3, Part 4 | After the first pillar traversal, find the staff among the flowers. Use the shifted rock route and enter the opening; the body is immediately to the left. |
Chapter 3 risk: the older achievement guide specifically warns that the seventh staff can become awkward after the flood state changes. The newer text route provides a chapter-part recovery point, so this is not a reason to restart. It is a reason to pair the staff and body before advancing the water puzzle.
Chapters 4–6: let each new ability finish the nearby delivery
From Chapter 4 onward, most missed shamans sit behind the ability the chapter has just introduced: Spirit Form, pressure switches, jump gates, Dash, or tether clearing. When the game teaches a new verb, sweep the immediate side space before following the main light onward.

Chapter 4: seven deliveries, Nos. 9–15
- No. 9, Part 1: stay left until the ruins. Clear the corruption guarding the staff, then look down and left among the rocks for the body.
- No. 10, Part 1: descend from No. 9 but take the right-hand hill before the circular wall. The staff is against the rocks; keep climbing to reach the body.
- No. 11, Part 2: at the low point beside the wall, climb right to a flower bed holding the staff. Use the chapter’s new spirit ability to enter the nearby structure; the body is on the left inside.
- No. 12, Part 3: take the slope on the right, pass through the arch, then climb the rock piles. After collecting the staff, follow the line of flowers to its owner.
- No. 13, Part 3: the staff lies on the required route after a tether is removed. Carry it right over the rocks, then left up the hill and rubble to the body near the wall.
- No. 14, Part 3: before the revolving-glyph puzzle, climb above the fox statue and follow the outer edge to the spiral for the staff. Return toward the statue; the body is on the left tower.
- No. 15, Part 4: open the spirit-controlled doors and jump left for the staff. Pass through the opened doorway, keep to the left slope, and drop through the opening to find the body on the right.
Chapter 5: nine deliveries, Nos. 16–24
- No. 16, Part 1: after the first jump gate, turn right at the fallen pillar and climb to the stone ring. Take the staff, then trace the mountain upward and left to the body on the high rocks.
- No. 17, Part 2: once Dash is available, climb right and use the pressure mechanism to reach the staff. The neighboring puzzle opens the route to the body.
- No. 18, Part 3: activate the jump route, then check the building to the left. Carry that staff all the way to the body at the top before leaving the vertical section.
- No. 19, Part 3: after moving the boulder, search the left-hand building in the newly opened area. The matching body is in the next structure across your path.
- No. 20, Part 5: at the lake, cross to the building on the left for the staff. Backtrack to the jump area, use the pressure door, and follow the climb to the body.
- No. 21, Part 6: take the first jump gate beside the dark water, immediately turn around, and use the return angle to reach the staff. At the next gate, Dash left instead of following the obvious landing to reach the body.
- No. 22, Part 6: at the three-pillar rotation puzzle, check behind the highest pillar for the staff. Complete the gate chain; the body is below the bridge before the dark waterfall.
- No. 23, Part 8: return to the patch where corruption was cleared and pick up the exposed staff. Continue to the spiral tower, jump to the stone ring, and take the route behind the rotating pillar to the body.
- No. 24, Part 8: this delivery is required for story progress. Confirm the awakening before the chapter closes.
Chapter 6: four deliveries, Nos. 25–28
- No. 25, Part 1: story-required awakening.
- No. 26, Part 2: after the red jump sequence, drop down and double back into the tunnel for the staff. Complete the light puzzle, then climb behind the pillar on the right to reach the body above.
- No. 27, Part 2: story-required awakening.
- No. 28, Part 3: below the fox statues, take the right-hand cave for the staff among the corruption. Advance the pillar sequence, drop to the lower route, and check the small cave on the left for the final body.
Do not enter Chapter 7 on faith. The intended checkpoint is None Forgotten, awarded for all 28 awakenings. If it has not unlocked, repair the missing chapter part now. The Chapter 7 spirits are the same completed set in a new state; the later sweep cannot manufacture a shaman you never awakened.
Chapter 7 is a five-zone greeting sweep
The Spirit World’s blue tint and repeated tree shapes make compass-style directions unreliable. A better route uses zone counts and permanent anchors. Bark at fox statues when disoriented; their light indicates the way toward the next zone. Within each zone, do not advance until the expected number of spirits has visibly greeted you.

Zone 1: river and forge — 4 greetings
Follow the red orb until the route passes through the rocky gap. At the junction, go right and then left into the broad river area. Turn right along the river for the first roaming spirit. Continue toward the large waterfall and small forge, where two more patrol nearby. Return toward the ravine exit and cross the river; the fourth walks the path leading onward.
Zone 2: cave and hollow trees — 5 greetings
Take the normal path into the cave area and greet the spirit near its fox statue. Continue toward the rocky map edge and wait for the wide-loop patrol to come around. Back at the split, use the hollow tree route for another circling spirit. Keep the left boundary in view to find the hollow tree bridge and its patrol, then greet the fifth spirit on the approach to the keep’s waterfall.
Zone 3: keep entrance — 7 greetings
At the waterfall, clear the left branch first: climb the rocks to the high plateau for the meditating spirit. Return and take the right branch through the arch. Check the small house on the right, then the house to the left. On the rising route, there is one plateau patrol; before collecting it, sweep the side woodland for a moving spirit and another by the fox statue. Return by stairs or jump portal, greet the plateau patrol, then climb the bricks around the tower for the easy-to-miss spirit on the ledge. Enter the tower only after the zone total reaches seven.
Zone 4: keep courtyards — 7 greetings
Circle the main tower until its roaming spirit reacts. On the right side, a tree and fountain group contains three spirits; watch all three perform the greeting rather than counting the group once. The glowing fox statue faces a small house with another spirit. Cross the yard to the opposite house for the sixth, then descend the left tower stairs to the lower courtyard for the seventh.
Zone 5: cellar and shrine — 5 greetings
Descend between the two fox statues. One spirit sits near the furnace, and another patrols the lower corridor. The final three stand together at the revival shrine. Approach from a few steps away and watch each animation separately. If the achievement does not appear, leave the group’s trigger radius and re-enter; do not immediately replay the entire chapter.
Attach the one-off achievements to reliable moments
Most story and counter achievements progress while you open the route: awaken 5, 12, and 28 shamans; destroy 3, 8, and 18 plague tethers; collect 25 and 50 Spirit Blooms; infuse 30 standing stones; and solve 12 revolving-glyph sets. The following tasks are easier to miss because they require a particular behavior rather than normal forward movement.

| Achievement | Requirement | Low-risk window | What to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| Foxin’ Around | Remain still for 3 minutes | Any safe, flat area with no moving platform | Do not touch movement or camera controls until it unlocks |
| Fetch | Carry a shaman staff for 3 minutes | Use a staff whose body is nearby and whose route cannot change state | Keep the staff in the fox’s mouth for the entire interval, then complete the delivery |
| Best Friends | Make the wisp chirp 100 times | After the wisp begins following you in Chapter 2 | Bark, hear or see the response, and repeat; raw movement does not count |
| Weightless | In Spirit Form, touch water, an unstable platform, and a pressure plate | Chapter 4 after Spirit Form is available | The three interactions may be completed separately; they do not need one transformation |
| Fox? Or Flying Squirrel? | Stay airborne for more than 8 seconds using gates or geysers | Chapter 5, Part 6 gate chain | Turn back and Dash into a gate again before landing to extend the same flight |
| Ancient History | Light all 8 carved-mural types | One type in Chapter 3, three in Chapter 4, four in Chapter 5 | Approach while infused and activate the carving; later duplicate carvings do not replace a missing type |
| Northern Lights | Fill the sky with aurora | The playable sky sequence during the ending credits | Move across the sky and use the bark/sprint actions before the sequence ends |
The legitimate airborne route is preferable to the supplied out-of-bounds guide. An endless fall may happen to satisfy the timer, but it also leaves you outside the designed map and gives no useful completion checkpoint. The Chapter 5 gate chain tests the intended mechanism and returns you to the route.
If a counter stalls, isolate one state change
Repeatedly replaying a chapter is the slowest way to diagnose a missing achievement. First identify which state failed to register, then perform one controlled test:
- A shaman icon is missing: load the corresponding part and search the staff encounter, not the entire chapter. Delivering a staff is the registration event.
- A Chapter 7 spirit is visible but silent: step well outside its trigger range, wait for a patrol to return if necessary, then approach until the greeting plays.
- The final shrine group does not complete Kindred Spirits: confirm all three individuals greeted you, then review the earlier zone totals of 4, 5, 7, and 7.
- Ancient History remains locked: revisit the chapter distribution, not every carved object. The requirement is eight carving types, while the world contains additional mural instances.
- Weightless remains locked: repeat each of the three Spirit Form surfaces separately. One ordinary-form contact among the three is enough to leave the set incomplete.
- A cumulative tether, stone, flower, or glyph achievement is short: use Chapter Select on the same save, complete one known example, and verify that progress advances before grinding more.
The final safe order is simple: finish all 28 staff deliveries, confirm None Forgotten, perform the five-zone Chapter 7 greeting sweep, and reserve the credits-only aurora action for the ending. Everything else can be repaired through the same-save chapter menu without turning the run into a second full playthrough.
