Atelier Ryza Story Crafting Guide: Required Items and Quality Targets

Ryza standing before the ruins in Atelier Ryza

If an Atelier Ryza story objective names an item, a quantity, or a quality value, the teal marker is only showing you where the finished craft belongs. The real route is in the cauldron: unlock or morph the recipe, gather a material the recipe actually accepts, equip the tool that exposes the correct drop, and check the finished item’s number before delivery.

This guide covers the required story crafts in the 2019 original Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout, from Reaper’s Scythe and the 30-quality Blessing Ointment through the Pynnor Key, three 100-quality Super Steel Gears, and the Red Stone–Crimson Stone finale. It does not apply to the later DX release, optional DLC islands, or postgame 999-quality synthesis.

When the Memo points forward but the story does not move

Check the objective text and the synthesis result in that order. A recipe that is missing from the list is not a quality problem. A recipe with an empty material node is not waiting for a more expensive ingredient; it needs an item in the category printed on that node. An item that exists at 49 quality will still fail a 50-quality delivery. A tree or rock that gives the wrong material may be the correct gathering point struck with the wrong tool.

Recipe Morph is the answer whenever the required item appears as a Recipe node inside a parent recipe. Follow the connected Material Loops to that node and activate it; filling unrelated effects does not unlock the child recipe. For quality requests, watch the result preview and spend additions on reachable Quality loops after securing the recipe path. Item Rebuild can improve a finished item later, but the rebuilt item’s level cannot exceed Ryza’s current Alchemy Level.

Material Loops and quality display in Atelier Ryza synthesis
Follow the connected loops toward the required Recipe or Quality node instead of filling every visible branch.

That gives you a short check before every delivery: confirm the exact recipe name, confirm every required category has a valid material, confirm the equipped gathering tool when a drop is missing, then confirm quantity and quality on the finished item. The chapters below identify which of those checks matters at each main-story stop.

Before the Underworld, the target rises from 30 to 70 quality

Reaper’s Scythe and Blessing Ointment at 30

Reaper’s Scythe is not learned from a separate scythe book. After the early story gives you the refined-material recipes, begin an Ingot synthesis and open the connected Recipe node that changes the result into Reaper’s Scythe. Put the finished tool in the Gathering Tools menu before returning to the Secluded Farm. Merely owning it in the container does not change Ryza’s field action.

If Ingot is missing, read the story book and make available recipes until the required alchemy progression is in place. If the morph node is visible but locked, inspect the element on the connecting loop. Adding more ore to the first node will not open a path whose elemental requirement is still unmet.

Blessing Ointment begins from Grass Beans and must reach at least 30 quality. Open the connecting path to its Recipe node, using early red flowers for the fire contribution on that route, then spend remaining additions on accepted high-quality materials or a reachable Quality loop. The number in the result preview is the delivery check; an extra effect on a 29-quality ointment does not help.

The hideout materials, two 50-quality items, and five bait

The Pixie Forest hideout needs 5 Building Material, 5 Stone Material, and 5 Seaweed Soil. These are quantity deliveries, so check how many finished items you have after each synthesis rather than assuming you need five cauldron sessions.

  • For Building Material, use Eiche from crates near Ryza’s home or suitable trees with the Woodcutter’s Axe equipped.
  • For Stone Material, collect Eroded Stone from rubble in the Shipyard tunnel on Traveler’s Road.
  • For Seaweed Soil, use Reaper’s Scythe on the pale beach plants in the Shipyard area to gather Salt Grass.

The next item is Soft Rubber Stone at 50 quality. Fresh Berries near the atelier can cover its Fruit route, while island puni enemies provide Puniball materials. This request arrives before Item Rebuild is the normal fallback, so replace the weakest accepted ingredient and use the recipe’s Quality branch until the preview reaches 50.

Once Item Rebuild becomes available, the Old Town debris request asks for a Bomb at 50 quality. A good Green Supplement in the relevant quality route can raise the initial result, and Rebuild can finish it if the unlocked loops and Ryza’s Alchemy Level allow the additions. Inspect the Bomb after rebuilding; that final number, not the number from the original synthesis screen, is the one you will deliver.

The fishermen then request 5 Delicious Bait without a special quality threshold. If Flour is missing, buy the dessert recipe book from Fressher. Wasser Wheat appears in sacks around the Valentz residence, and Kumine Fruit can be found in containers in the Fairystone Mines. Stop when the inventory holds five valid bait; forcing a quality target that the objective never asks for only consumes better material.

Meteor Castle changes the tool before it changes the material

At Meteor Castle’s Heatwave Gate, strike the glowing pillars with the Woodcutter’s Axe to obtain Ethereal Stone. Return to the atelier, synthesize the Hammer, equip it, and hit those pillars again. The Hammer exposes Cometstone, which supports the stronger metal synthesis needed as the route advances.

If the pillar still gives Ethereal Stone, look at the active tool icon before changing maps. If the Hammer recipe cannot be completed, verify that you obtained Ethereal Stone and received the story’s Gathering Methods book. The location is already correct; the second material is behind the tool swap.

The same gathering point can expose a different material after the correct tool is equipped.

After the dragon sequence, morph Delicious Bait into Powerful Fish Bait at 70 quality. Maple Delta supplies Fragrant Honey Tree, and water points in the region can supply useful Roteswasser Tonic. If the preview remains low, compare accepted materials by quality and check current shop stock for better Flour or Rainbow Grapes; shop quality can vary, so use the number you can see rather than assuming a fixed roll.

The following request is Monster Attractor at 60 quality. Fairystone Fragments fit part of the recipe, while good Roteswasser Tonic can help its quality route. If Empel will not accept the result, verify both the finished number and the exact item name. Owning another Magic Tool or the earlier Delicious Bait does not satisfy this request.

The Underworld trip is also preparation for the Pynnor Key

Keep two future ingredients, then make the 80-quality Prosthetic Arm

During the first Underworld visit, keep at least one Beast Venom Pouch from the scorpion enemies and collect Underworld Rotwood from the area’s containers. Both appear in the later Pynnor Key recipe-morph work. Bringing them home now prevents the failed key at Treppe Hill from sending you back for materials you already passed.

Lila’s request in The Abandoned Tower is a Prosthetic Arm at 80 quality. The unusual ingredient is a Resonance Orb from a Travel Bottle world created through the Gathering Synthesizer. Enter a generated area and search its purple-mist gathering points. If a careful pass reveals none, leave and create another bottle world; repeating unrelated nodes in the same unsuitable area will not make the missing point appear.

After obtaining the orb, synthesize the Prosthetic Arm and watch the 80-quality result rather than filling every effect. If Item Rebuild refuses another addition, compare the item’s new level with Ryza’s Alchemy Level. Rebuild cannot push the item beyond that cap.

Holy Drop and Holy Tree Leaf finish the Pynnor Key

When the old key fails at Treppe Hill, the replacement requires both a recipe-morph chain and an upgraded gathering tool:

  1. Begin with Flour, then follow Recipe nodes through Poison Cube → Taboo Drop → Holy Drop.
  2. Use the Beast Venom Pouch and Underworld Rotwood saved from the earlier trip where the recipe accepts them.
  3. At Pynnor Holy Tower’s Sanctuary Garden, use the Axe on the gemmed logs to obtain the branch needed for a Bomb Rod.
  4. Synthesize and equip the Bomb Rod, return to the gemmed logs, and gather the Holy Tree Leaf exposed by the upgraded tool.
  5. Complete the Pynnor Key and use it at the Treppe Hill monument. Access to Kurken Bunker is the observable sign that the key sequence registered.

If Holy Drop is absent from the recipe list, reopen the previous recipe and follow its Recipe node instead of searching the tower for a standalone book. If the gemmed logs yield the branch but never Holy Tree Leaf, that first drop proves you found the correct node; return after equipping the Bomb Rod.

The last deliveries ask for three 100s, then one 120

Make one 100-quality Super Steel Gear before making three

Tao’s desalination repair in Getting Ready requires 3 Super Steel Gears, each at 100 quality or higher. Make one compliant master and, if the Multiplicauldron is available in your current story state, duplicate two copies from that checked result. This avoids three independent quality rolls.

If duplication is unavailable or too expensive, synthesize the gears separately and inspect all three before leaving the atelier. Two gears at 105 and one at 98 still fail the delivery. The recipe comes from Tao’s story note; if it is missing, advance the required wait and atelier scene rather than trying to morph an unrelated metal recipe.

Red Stone at 120 opens the Crimson Stone follow-up

The major fight in The Final Battle…!? is not the last required craft. In Past the Present, investigate the Heart of the Island in Kurken Bunker to inspire the next recipe, then make a Red Stone at 120 quality or higher. Underworld Cores from the Dark Abyss and a strong Dragon Eye are the material bottlenecks to check when its recipe stalls.

Testing the Red Stone is supposed to show that the first solution is insufficient. Return to the atelier and use the newly available Recipe Morph to turn the Red Stone route into Crimson Stone. The repair advances with that new item, not with a second Red Stone carrying an arbitrary higher number.

After the Crimson Stone sequence and the farewell visits, create clear-save data when the game prompts you. Keep a separate pre-ending save if you may want to revisit the finale. Loading the cleared state is the handoff to postgame bosses, later Travel Bottle progress, completion cleanup, and 999-quality material work; none of those postgame optimizations is required to pass the story deliveries above.

This route was rechecked on August 8, 2026 for the original Atelier Ryza Steam release. If you are continuing through the trilogy, use the separate Atelier Ryza 2 completion roadmap and Atelier Ryza 3 story route only after this clear-save handoff.
