For a reliable first clear in Gunstoppable, build one movement line you can recover after a miss, then make the two weapons solve different problems. Speed is an offensive resource: the current system multiplies damage, attack speed, and reload speed. If the speed meter collapses before you can finish an attack, fix the route. If the meter stays high and enemies still survive, fix the weapon package.
This guide covers the Windows launch build after Patch 28, checked on August 8, 2026. That boundary matters because the first two post-launch hotfixes changed grapple speed, input remapping, crosshair behavior, and performance, while Patch 28 changed the old life-on-hit wording to damage-based life steal and retuned several weapons. Use the text shown in your current reward screen when it differs from an older screenshot or pre-launch description.

Tune the signal before judging the route
Do not compare weapons while the camera, crosshair, or frame rate is hiding the cause of a miss. At launch, the display menu covered resolution choices, windowing, synchronization, and camera-shake control. The final pre-release update reworked controller aim with aim assistance, sensitivity curves, and damping; Patch 28 then improved small-stick aiming through its deadzone change. The post-launch hotfixes also fixed the right mouse button remap, allowed several inputs on one button, kept the crosshair visible, and corrected its dot position.
Repeat the same simple grapple or wall entry twice before changing the build. If one attempt is clean and the next becomes a camera correction, leave the weapons alone and adjust one control or visual setting. Lower screen shake when impacts hide projectiles. Change sensitivity when you sweep past the next rail or wall. If performance is interrupting inputs, try the low-graphics option; the first hotfix specifically targeted that mode and broad performance problems.
You are ready to test the route when the same input produces the same camera movement. From that point, a sharp loss on the speed meter is useful evidence: it belongs to the movement line rather than to an unstable setting.
Make one lap survive a missed grapple
Gunstoppable builds momentum through grappling, sliding, wall movement, and rail grinding. A practical first-run line needs a way to gain speed, a way to cross space, and somewhere to land when the ideal transfer fails. For example, enter from a slide, use one grapple or jump to change height, and keep a nearer wall, rail, or floor in view as the recovery. The exact surfaces change with the arena; the three jobs do not.
Choose the transfer target before leaving the first surface. When it connects, the meter should hold or rise and your view should already face an enemy or the next movement object. When it misses, take the recovery surface instead of forcing a second blind grapple. A shorter line that survives one error is more valuable on a first clear than a spectacular line that ends the run whenever the first transfer is late.
Use the meter to separate route trouble from build trouble. If it falls at the same corner, shorten that transfer or pick a nearer recovery. If it remains high through the fight but targets do not go down, stop changing the route. Speed is already supplying its damage, attack, and reload multipliers; the missing answer is now in the weapons or upgrades.
The visible achievement milestones include 400% top speed and single-run scores of 20,000 and 100,000, but they are poor first-clear tests. Learn a line that exits toward the next threat before extending it for a speed attempt. Keep that known line when you later test whether a stronger build converts momentum into score.
Give each hand a problem it can actually solve
Dual-wielding is a coverage decision. Before taking a weapon reward, name the job of each active hand and the threat neither one handles. A forgiving contact weapon can keep pressure while the route is imperfect. The other hand can supply burst, reach, crowd pressure, parry access, sustain, or movement. Two weapons that both fail at the same range or against the same attack leave the second slot busy without making the run safer.

The official reward image illustrates three different answers. Rocket Recoil converts firing into backward force, so it is useful only when that displacement fits the safe line you already know. The Katana adds a projectile-parry branch for readable close pressure. The Rocket Launcher gives the pair an explosive burst option. Patch 28 shortened the launcher’s reload time, but early balance numbers are not a reason to call any of these a permanent best choice.
The screenshot also preserves older life-on-hit wording. Patch 28 replaced that rule with life steal based on damage percentage and extended its trigger to radial damage such as rockets. Treat the current card as authoritative. A high-damage hand can now change the value of sustain in a way that an old per-hit reading would not capture.
After the next encounter, check whether both hands were used for the jobs you named. If one stayed idle, replace it at the next safe opportunity or take an attachment only when that attachment creates a job you will repeatedly perform. If both were active but the same enemy still ended the run, identify the missing range, control, sustain, or burst before accepting another reward.
Read attachments and augments as one weapon package
Older Gunstoppable material can describe a shared hex grid. The later official rework uses four weapon slots with three attachment slots for each weapon. That makes an attachment part of a specific weapon package, not a free-floating bonus. Strengthen the weapon that already performs its job before filling slots on a weapon you rarely draw.
Level-ups present three unlocked augments. Read their triggers against what the current route and weapon pair already do. The useful augment is not the card with the loudest isolated effect; it is the one whose condition you can produce across the next encounter.

- Claw Machine adds impact damage to the grapple. Take it for a line that deliberately connects grapples with targets, not for a route that uses the grapple only to escape.
- Blood Infusion raises maximum health on kills. It asks whether the run already converts encounters into kills often enough to grow the benefit.
- Unstoppable Combo adds damage per hit and resets on a miss. It rewards sustained contact, so it is fragile while a new high-speed route is still producing frequent misses.
Watch the selected trigger for one encounter. If it never happens, do not keep taking adjacent rewards in the hope that the package will repair itself. Return to actions the build already repeats, or deliberately change the route before investing again. Patch 28 also fixed a bug that could place extra copies of a weapon into attachment slots, so an older malformed layout should not be treated as the intended system.
Spend Reaper Mode before the route becomes an emergency
Reaper Mode is manually activated with Q on keyboard or B on controller. Kills build access to the time-bending state, but readiness alone is not a reason to spend it. Give the activation a specific problem: a cluster that overloads normal aim, a dangerous move between surfaces, or a short window in which the burst hand can remove several threats.
Identify the targets and the exit surface first. Activate the mode, commit the attacks, then leave toward that surface instead of searching for a route after time returns to normal. If the same group still blocks the line when the mode ends, the timing solved nothing; wait until targets overlap more tightly on the next attempt. If a run ends with Reaper unused, define an earlier trigger such as the first dense wave that forces you away from the practiced line.
Let Johnny Jetpack choose the next practice target
Johnny Jetpack’s documented attacks include mortars, a double rocket slam, and a ramping minigun. The rocket slam can be parried. These cues are enough to choose a response, but they do not support a permanent numeric boss script after the post-launch balance changes.

Mortars reveal whether the route has a second landing when the preferred lane becomes unsafe. The minigun reveals whether you can keep useful fire on the boss without abandoning movement. The slam presents a branch: parry when the cue is readable, or preserve space and observe the timing for the next attempt. Repeatedly losing the meter before an attack resolves means the route needs work. Holding speed but failing to convert the opening points back to the weapon pair.
End the run with one answer, not five guesses
Challenges unlock weapons, attachments, and augments, so an early death can still widen the next build. The useful review is narrower: decide whether the run taught you about recovery, one weapon job, one augment trigger, one Reaper timing, or one Johnny cue. Change that layer and keep the others stable.
A first-clear plan is ready when the movement line survives one miss, both hands have a named use, the chosen augment fires during normal play, and Reaper has a trigger before panic. If the next run breaks at the same place, make the smallest matching change: shorten the transfer when the meter drops, change the weapon package when speed remains high, or move the Reaper trigger earlier when the ability dies unused. That gives the following run a question it can actually answer.
