Pokemon Pokopia has two separate gates for Bubbly Basin. Version 2.0.0 adds the free route that teaches Dive and enables underwater building, while entry to Bubbly Basin itself requires the game to recognize your Expansion Pass. A breathing bubble proves that Dive is active; only passing through the underwater gate proves that you can access the paid area.
This guide was rechecked on August 9, 2026 for Version 2.0.0 and Bubbly Basin Part 1. The route is complete when the gate behind the Bleak Beach Pokemon Center loads the Bubbly Basin town. It does not cover a full regional Pokedex or later Expansion Pass parts.
Start with what your save currently shows
| What you can see | What it proves | Next move |
|---|---|---|
| Ditto enters deep water without a breathing bubble | The free Dive task is unfinished | Check Bleak Beach Environment Level 5, Surf, and Manaphy’s Seaweed hand-in |
| The bubble appears, but no Bubbly Basin objective advances | Dive works; the post-Dive conversation is still missing | Return to the Bleak Beach Pokemon Center |
| The underwater gate is visible but rejects access | The free route is complete, but the paid entitlement is not recognized | Check the full game and Expansion Pass on the active profile |
| The gate loads the named Bubbly Basin town | Both gates have passed | Continue with the town requests and Habitat Dex |
No bubble: finish the free Dive route
Start at the PC inside the Bleak Beach Pokemon Center. Check the displayed environment level instead of trying to judge it from the scenery. If it is below 5, talk to residents and complete the specific habitat or home requirements they show. Add any missing habitats, invite the residents those habitats support, and furnish established homes when a request calls for it. Recheck the PC after each meaningful change; Environment Level 5 is the reliable checkpoint.
Surf is the other prerequisite. If it is missing, return to the earlier Bleak Beach chain rather than waiting for a DLC prompt. Help Magikarp with an Ocean Fishing Spot that touches the ocean to learn Jump. Later, build the Tropical Seaside habitat, complete Lapras’s Bleak Beach cleanup, and report back to Lapras for Surf. If either habitat fails to register, inspect its water contact and required furniture before moving the whole build.
Once you have Environment Level 5 and Surf, speak with Professor Tangrowth outside the Pokemon Center. The investigation leads to an island off the northwestern side of Bleak Beach, across from Meowth’s house. Surf there, collect the five pieces of Seaweed on the island, and give all five to Manaphy. Do not rely on the final dialogue alone: Manaphy teaches Dive, and Ditto gains a breathing bubble when entering deep water.

Dive activates through movement rather than through the move wheel. Walk below the surface and watch for the bubble. Underwater, B speeds up swimming, ZL holds position, and R moves upward. Test the bubble near shore. If Ditto immediately returns to the surface, make sure the five-Seaweed hand-in was completed and the game is running Version 2.0.0 or later.
Bubble present: activate the paid entrance
Once Dive works, there is no reason to repeat Manaphy’s task. Return to the Bleak Beach Pokemon Center and finish the new conversation that directs you underwater. The sources disagree about the visiting Pokemon’s species, so rely on the Pokemon Center and the new objective as your fixed landmarks.
Dive behind the Pokemon Center and approach the underwater gate. There is no additional Trainer Level threshold after Dive. Interact with the gate while the Expansion Pass is recognized on the active profile. If the entrance is visible but access is denied, the useful check is the paid entitlement—not another round of Seaweed collection.

Use the gate, not underwater tools, as proof
Underwater building is part of the free Version 2.0.0 update and can also work outside Bubbly Basin, so it does not prove that the Expansion Pass is active. The same is true of Dive itself: the bubble confirms the free task, not paid access. The decisive test is whether the gate takes you into Bubbly Basin.
After arrival, follow the town requests and use the Habitat Dex for residents rather than swimming around in search of random encounters. Bubbly Basin Pokemon appear when their listed underwater habitat conditions are satisfied. Avoid a fixed launch-day Pokemon count because current sources disagree about the roster and its free-versus-paid split; the in-game Bubbly Basin Pokedex and Habitat Dex are the safer completion displays.
Once the gate loads Bubbly Basin and its town requests become available, the access route covered here is finished. If the transition never happens, return to the first table and start from the last state you can confirm—no bubble, a missing conversation, or a rejected entitlement—instead of repeating the entire chain.

Optional Expansion Pass extras: claim the Ditto print block and wallpaper recipe from Downloadable Content on the main menu; entering the gate does not award them. The Rare Pokemetal bonus uses a separate emailed code under Get with Code/Password in a Pokemon Center’s Mystery Gifts menu. Nintendo lists August 31, 2027 as the code-redemption deadline and September 30, 2027 as the in-game claim deadline. For the separate fragment, smelting, and spending loop after redemption, use the Pokemon Pokopia Pokemetal guide.
