Flesh Made Fear becomes much easier to read when every room is treated as part of one lock chain. Lower the forest bridge, assemble the demolition charge, turn the Bluebird Inn keys into sewer access, carry three staffs to the cemetery, and take the Runic Tram Key to Redwick House. The route changes for Jack and Natalie in a few places, but it always returns to those gates.
The larger risk is optional progress. Rescuing your partner in Downtown and rescuing Bill and Zach at Redwick House determine the ending. If you want to finish with everyone alive, do both. If you also want to preserve the other ending branches, keep a manual save after taking the Runic Tram Key but before rescuing your partner, then keep another after making the Mask of Control but before rescuing Bill and Zach.
Separate the character route from the rescue route
Jack and Natalie do not begin on interchangeable paths. Jack has the larger health pool but fewer inventory slots; Natalie has less health and more carrying space. In the forest, Jack takes the west path through the lookout tower and old bridge, while Natalie takes the east path through the campground and dirt bike jump. In the sewers, Jack exits through WRot Radio Station and later rescues Katya; Natalie exits through Barlow’s Fine Meats and later rescues Marcus.
Those branches change locations, bosses, and a few achievements. They do not change the shared progression spine. Use this short state test whenever the next destination is unclear:
- Forest exit: the bridge is down, the Breach Charge has been collected, and the demolition charge is ready for the blocked tunnel.
- Outskirts exit: Cole is defeated, Room 104 is open, and the Maintenance Hole Hook is in your inventory.
- Downtown exit: the Skull, Crow, and Serpent staffs are in the cemetery altars, the Void Warden is dead, and you hold the Runic Tram Key.
- Redwick exit: both mask pieces are combined, the Mask of Control has opened the final route, and you have consciously chosen which squad members to rescue.
Do not spend time trying to force the other protagonist’s door. If Jack is facing a Meat Shop route or Natalie is trying to enter the Radio Station, return to the last character hand-off and use the medallion that the partner actually delivered.
Forest: solve access in the order the bomb demands
Jack uses 329; Natalie uses 420
Jack’s west route leads to the lookout tower. Restore the generator, take the area map and tape upstairs, and enter 329 on the tower lockbox. The key inside opens the gate below. Continue across the old suspension bridge, use the shack as a save point if needed, and drop toward the bridge station and gas station.
Natalie’s east route leads through Rotwood Campgrounds. Take the map and Campground Key from the accessible caravan, then unlock the way out. At the disabled bike, follow the side path to the caravan with the rock calendar. Enter 420 on its lockbox, install the Spark Plug, and use the bike to cross the gap. The windmill provides a save point before the broken ladder returns this branch to the same gas-station side of the raised bridge.
The gas station is a waypoint, not the objective
The bridge station and gas station are both locked at first. Search the men’s restroom beside the gas station for its key, deal with the body that animates when the key is taken, and open the station. The office contains useful supplies; the toolshed on the far side contains the workbench for a bomb that cannot be built yet.
Continue into the forest depths. Exploding enemies are poor ammunition trades: give them room, trigger their swelling animation, and retreat beyond the cloud instead of shooting them in open space. Save bullets for narrow rooms, forced encounters, and bosses.
The Sheriff’s House turns five objects into the bridge route
Find the Bloody Fireplace Poker in the kitchen of the abandoned Sheriff’s House and use it to drain the bathroom tub. The Hammer Head is in the tub; the Hammer Handle is upstairs. Combine them, remove the bedroom planks, and take the Basement Key. The basement contains the Wolf Medallion. Picking it up releases the enemies behind the marked door, and that newly opened room holds both the Metal Handle and Bridge Station Key.
Return through the gas station. Open the bridge station and fit the Metal Handle into the control box. After lowering and crossing the bridge, inspect the rear of the destroyed R.I.P. vehicle for the Breach Charge. Missing that pickup is the usual reason the toolshed still refuses to produce an explosive.
Use the Wolf Medallion on the trailer-park gate and align its rotating layers. Search the caravans for Duct Tape, Reactive Chemicals, and Fuel. Back at the toolshed, combine those three parts with the Breach Charge at the workbench. Carry the finished demolition charge to the road tunnel and clear the rubble. If the crafting prompt is incomplete, compare the workbench list against those four components rather than resweeping the entire forest.
Outskirts: convert motel keys into a sewer tool

Keep the shotgun loaded through the motel ambush
Enter the Bluebird Inn office and take the Room 102 key. Room 102 contains the Bloodied Pump Action Shotgun, ammunition, and the key to Room 101. The fight begins as you leave, so equip the shotgun before crossing the threshold. Room 101 supplies the key to Room 103; Room 103 contains four Glass Diamonds hidden in the wall growths.
Place those diamonds into the Room 101 device and set them, left to right, to red, blue, green, yellow. Take the Lion Medallion to the matching gate. The Bubonic Behemoth beyond it can be controlled by alternating one shotgun stagger with short knife pressure, then backing out before it recovers. Three careful shotgun staggers are a documented low-cost approach; if the rhythm fails, stop forcing melee and protect the health needed for the rest of the district.
The diner opens on four directions
At Devin’s Diner, remove the planks behind the counter with the hammer and inspect the clue beyond them. Set the four counter dials from right to left to south, west, north, east. The opened box supplies the gate key. If the box stays shut, check both the input direction and the fact that the reference order begins at the rightmost dial.
Three books and two key pieces unlock Cole’s cell
Meet Cole in the Sheriff’s Department holding area and take the department keys from the nearby body. Break the three eye growths to recover the books, then follow the cables to their sockets. The verified matching chain is:
- Dispatch book → Justice socket → Observation Room cable.
- Locker Room book → Law socket → Office cable.
- Restrooms book → Order socket → Corridor cable.
When all three circuits agree, the Interrogation Room opens and yields the bottom key piece. In the Locker Room, enter 394 to obtain the Vintage Lighter. Use it on the four Briefing Room figures in this visual order: rodent, snake, hawk, wolf. Current references alternate between “rat” and “mouse” for the first figure, so follow the rodent statue rather than looking for a second animal. Combine the top and bottom pieces into the Arachnid Key.
Open the spider-marked office, use the computer to release the holding cells and armory, and collect the Police Issued MP5 before returning to Cole. Defeating his transformed form drops the Room 104 key. Back at the Bluebird Inn, Room 104 contains the Maintenance Hole Hook. Use it on the sewer access outside. A missing Room 104 key means either Cole is still alive or the computer has not released the cells; a missing hook means the motel backtrack is not finished.
Sewers and Downtown: make one circuit for three staffs

Let the partner solve the liquid room
Use the sewer save desk before the character hand-off. The trapped partner crosses the green liquid, opens the gate, and operates the two liquid controls. From the untouched starting state, the recorded input sequence is:
- Left control: middle ×3, bottom ×2, middle ×2, bottom ×2, middle ×1.
- Right control: middle ×3, bottom ×1, middle ×1.
Do not apply that sequence halfway through an earlier attempt. Reset or reload the room first, because the inputs describe moves from the default liquid levels. The partner receives a character-specific medallion and hands it back automatically.
Jack uses his medallion at WRot Radio Station, matches the wave display, defeats the Flayer, and takes the station key to the outside gate. Natalie uses hers at Barlow’s Fine Meats, presses the skulls in the order cow, deer, pig, goat, defeats the Gluttonous Maw, and leaves with Barlow’s key. Both exits feed the same Downtown intersection.
Run Downtown south before doubling back
The cemetery door needs three staffs. A low-backtracking circuit is School → Curse & Craft → Gunderson’s General Store → Medical Office rescue branch → Video Outlaw → Crimson Reel → cemetery. This order also prevents the open-street crowds from consuming ammunition on repeated crossings.
- Skull Staff: enter Rotwood School, pass the hall enemies, and take the staff from the deepest room. The shotgun is useful when enemies line up, but the outdoor group can be run past.
- Crow Staff: in Curse & Craft, collect the two moth parts. In the basement, set Lovers to Star, Devil to Sun, and Death to Moon. Combine the parts, return the moth to the upstairs monument, and take the Crow Staff.
- Grenade launcher and Crimson Medallion: at Gunderson’s, search the office body for the Gun Room Key, take the M32 upstairs, then meet Zach and Bill in the storage area. Their Crimson Medallion opens the cinema branch later.
- Partner rescue window: use the Maintenance Hole Hook on the sewer by Gunderson’s and reach the Medical Office. Press the three portrait switches in the order Life, Pain, Death. The hidden basement control activates the sewer lift and rescues Katya on Jack’s route or Marcus on Natalie’s route.
- Serpent Staff: use the Crimson Medallion to reach Video Outlaw. Retrieve the hammer from storage if necessary, remove the basement planks, and take the Crimson Reel key from the body below. The staff is inside the cinema.
If you are preserving all ending branches, postpone step 4. Place all three staffs at the cemetery, set the cabin clock to 4:50, defeat the Void Warden, and take the Runic Tram Key from the crypt. Make manual save A now. From it, you can return through the Medical Office route to rescue the partner or leave that rescue undone before boarding the trolley.
Redwick House: decide the ending after making the mask
At the end of the trolley line, enter Redwick House and use the ground-floor save/storage room. Upstairs, one room contains four figures that must be lit in this visual order: young or maiden, pregnant, hooded or death, skeletal. Walkthrough labels differ slightly, but the figure progression is consistent. The puzzle releases the upper mask piece. Take the lower piece from the neighboring route and combine them into the Mask of Control.
Place the mask on the downstairs statue to open the last wing, but do not cross the final boss threshold yet. If you want the ending branches, leave Bill and Zach unresolved and create manual save B after the mask is assembled. The rescue state at the finish produces these outcomes:
| Partner | Bill and Zach | Ending state |
|---|---|---|
| Not rescued | Not rescued | Worst ending for the selected protagonist |
| Rescued | Not rescued | Character-specific Bad Ending One |
| Not rescued | Rescued | Character-specific Bad Ending Two |
| Rescued | Rescued | Best Ending |
The Bill and Zach route is in the Redwick basement, reached through the dining-room and kitchen side. Complete it before the final fight if you want them counted as rescued. A main-story clear that saves everyone therefore requires the Medical Office control panel earlier and this basement rescue now.
Before entering Ripper’s arena, move the shotgun, grenade launcher, ammunition, and healing into the active inventory. Ripper’s Nightmare can be interrupted by heavy shots; use the stun window to add damage or reposition, then stop attacking when it begins another approach. Supplies and crafting material are available on the arena sides, but picking them up under pressure is a recovery plan, not a reason to enter empty. After the creature falls, follow the upper opening to the roof and finish the escape sequence.
Optional 15-plushie route check
- Case: women’s restroom beside Rusty’s Gas Station.
- Bawkba: inside Bridge Residence, the safe room facing the bridge station.
- Jana: far-right edge of the Rotwood trailer park.
- Layna: west side of the Sheriff’s Department parking area.
- Oliver: north side of the same parking area.
- Elronda: outside the department exit beside the armory route.
- Sharkie: east end of the street available after leaving the department.
- Lee: near the end of the partner-controlled sewage passage.
- Sparrow: outside Gunderson’s General Store.
- Evil Chicken: outside the Medical Office reached from Gunderson’s sewer.
- Nimbus: open ground between Crimson Reel and Video Outlaw.
- Zoozle: behind the counter inside Crimson Reel.
- Sheepie Blair: in front of Rotwood Cemetery.
- JJ: at the far end of the trolley tracks by Redwick House.
- Bawktober: Redwick basement on the dining-room and kitchen route.
The collection is recorded as cumulative across playthroughs. Verify the current counter before repeating an entire character route for one missed toy.
Hardcore compresses the budget, not the lock order
The same keys, codes, staffs, and rescue switches apply on Hardcore. What changes is the tolerance for a wasteful route. Current player references disagree on the better protagonist: one favors Jack’s health, another favors Natalie’s two extra inventory spaces. Treat that as a play-style decision. Choose Jack if damage during run-pasts is ending attempts; choose Natalie if repeated storage trips and boss loadouts are the larger problem.
Four rules transfer cleanly from the route above:
- Run past open-area groups when the location will not be revisited; kill enemies that control narrow, repeated corridors.
- Use the knives on isolated early enemies when the two-part attack can keep them staggered. Do not force melee inside mixed groups.
- Bait exploding enemies in open space and retreat from the cloud instead of buying safety with a long string of handgun shots.
- Keep the grenade launcher for the cemetery and final stretch unless spending a shell prevents a larger health or save loss now.
Save before forced bosses and floating-enemy rooms, not after every clean hallway. If a run from a fresh save consumes far more healing than expected, repeat that short section while its enemy positions are still familiar. The route is deterministic enough to learn; the scarce part is the margin you carry into Redwick House.
Official game and verification boundary
The official Flesh Made Fear Steam page confirms the October 31, 2025 Windows release, Tainted Pact as developer, Assemble Entertainment as publisher, limited saves, inventory management, the Jack/Natalie stat tradeoff, and the official screenshots used here. Route locks, puzzle states, rescue branches, and collectible locations were cross-checked against readable walkthrough and achievement references, including one updated July 22, 2026. Unresolved label differences were expressed as visual checks, and version-sensitive reload exploits or fixed resource totals were not used.
