An artifact in MISERY is not a glowing chest reward waiting in plain sight. You bring a Busel Detector into an anomaly cluster, follow the instrument until the hidden object emerges, and decide whether its stat trade is worth the radiation, health, hunger, thirst, or stamina cost. The difficult part is not learning twelve names. It is leaving the field with enough health and treatment to make the find permanent.
This guide was checked on August 10, 2026. The official May 22 artifact hotfix says all artifacts can be equipped again after a bug, while the May 21 update added visible item and trader stats. The twelve-effect table below is a documented snapshot cross-checked against a Steam achievement guide updated June 18. Treat the item card in the current client as final whenever a number, sign, slot, or description differs.
Buy or craft the detector before paying the anomaly tax
The Busel Detector converts an uncertain hazard zone into a bounded search. A current post-achievement community route documents it at the basic Workbench for three Iron Bars and five Electronics, or from the gas-mask-wearing Dealer in SIRZEZ for 135 rubles. Recipes and prices have changed elsewhere in the game, so read both live interfaces before choosing the faster route.
Do not enter the field merely because the detector exists. Pack for the failure the field creates:
- Detector in a quick-access position. You need to read it while moving, not reorganize a full inventory beside an anomaly.
- Health margin. Teleport damage, spikes, a launch and fall, or a rock strike can arrive before radiation becomes the visible problem.
- Radiation protection plus removal. A suit or mask manages exposure; an anti-rad item or negative-radiation artifact lowers what has already accumulated. The May build lets a mask and hat occupy separate slots.
- Insanity answer. Hallucination fields can make the controls and screen unreliable. Carry a known recovery item and leave before interface loss prevents inventory use.
- Empty artifact cells and weight. Finding the object is not useful if the grid cannot accept it or an overloaded retreat cannot clear the field.
Set the exit before the search: one treatment reserved for the trip home, a radiation level that triggers retreat, and a minimum health margin for an unseen hit. If you spend the reserve while the detector is still only giving a weak response, the field has already won.
Search in arcs so the Busel gives you direction
The detector’s needle or ticking becomes more active near an artifact. A single reading gives distance, not a safe straight line. Move in short arcs around the anomaly edge and compare the response:
- Stand outside the visible hazard and take a baseline reading.
- Move laterally a few steps. If the response weakens, return to the baseline instead of cutting diagonally through the center.
- Advance from the stronger side in one short segment, stop, and scan the ground. Artifacts become visible only at close range and can blend into debris.
- Mark the retreat line with a building corner, tree, vehicle, or the direction of scattered paper. Do not rotate repeatedly while chasing the needle.
- Pick up the object, clear the field along the entry line, then inspect its card. Equipping inside the hazard can change health, radiation, or carrying state before you understand the sign.
A detector that reaches a strong reading without revealing the object is not permission to circle forever. Step back, approach from the other safe edge, and check small ground objects. If two approaches produce maximum response but no visible pickup, preserve the run and try the location after the next Shining rather than spending every cure on a possible spawn or visibility issue.

Identify the field before you follow the needle
| Visible or audible signal | Main failure | Search adjustment |
|---|---|---|
| Pulsating or expanding black/gray orbs | Contact or pulse damage | Wait through a cycle, advance between active zones, and do not confuse them with a stationary teleport core. |
| Large stationary gray core | Teleport plus a small health cost | Enter only with enough health to pay for the move and enough time to orient after arrival. |
| Green gas or apparition-like cluster | Fast insanity gain and impaired control | Search from the fringe; retreat before full insanity can lock out a clean inventory response. |
| Red air, floating spikes, or urchin-like objects | Health damage and clothing durability loss | Keep lateral clearance and avoid squeezing between the artifact reading and a wall. |
| Loose paper, debris, or vegetation moving in a force line | Wind launch followed by fall damage | Read the ground, go around the line, and never approach from a cliff or roof edge. |
| Rock-like anomaly with a sharp shot sound | Heavy sudden damage | Use cover and short exposures; abort after the first unexplained hit rather than trying to tank the pattern. |
This is a recognition set, not a promise that every generated field uses only these hazards. Official updates continue adding locations, hazards, and planned artifact content. If a new effect lacks a known counter, observe it with an empty pack before combining it with a detector run.
Read every artifact as a gain and a bill
The current item card is the authority. In the June 2026 documentation snapshot, the twelve known artifacts read as follows:
| Artifact | Documented stat snapshot | Practical use | Reason to hold it unequipped |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nevalyashka | Health +30; Radiation -40 | Strong general survival and radiation cleanup. | Little reason if the live card matches, but confirm that stacking does not hide another needed stat. |
| Dosimeter | Health +5; Radiation -25 | Compact radiation control with a small health gain. | A duplicate may add less value than a stamina or food-support slot. |
| GP-5 Filter | Health -5; Radiation -15 | Radiation reduction when stronger clean options are absent. | The health loss matters in a field that deals impact or fall damage. |
| Soap | Hunger +10; Thirst +10; Radiation -5 | Small multi-stat support for ordinary expeditions. | Its radiation effect is modest for a dedicated high-exposure route. |
| Iron | Health +10; Hunger +6; Radiation +3 | Health-focused setup that also supports hunger. | It adds radiation, which can erase the value inside contaminated structures. |
| Star | Hunger +20 | Food-pressure relief in a bunker or route short on safe meals. | It does not solve radiation or movement by itself. |
| Jewelry Box | Hunger +20; Stamina +40; Thirst +20 | Large travel and survival-stat package for hauling and long routes. | Confirm the live description and total build, because a large general bonus can tempt overextension. |
| Volchok | Health +15; Stamina +10 | Balanced health and movement support. | A radiation-heavy destination may need a cleanup slot more urgently. |
| Clocks | Stamina +20; Radiation +5 | Faster movement or more melee/sprint margin. | The radiation surcharge is dangerous when the route already approaches the cure limit. |
| Toy Truck | Health -5; Stamina +15; Radiation +5 | Movement boost when health and radiation are under control. | It charges both health and radiation for that speed. |
| Calculator | Stamina +15; Hunger -5; Radiation +8 | Short movement gain when food is abundant and contamination is low. | It pressures hunger and radiation at the same time. |
| Rubik’s Cube | Health -5; Thirst +10 | Narrow thirst support when the health loss is acceptable. | A clean drink may solve the same problem without occupying an artifact slot. |
A plus sign is not automatically a benefit. Health and stamina gains help; added radiation is a cost. A negative radiation value is useful cleanup; a negative health or hunger value is a liability. Hover the artifact, compare the before-and-after character sheet, and verify that the direction agrees with the description. The May update was specifically designed to make these comparisons visible.
Build for the destination rather than ranking all twelve
A permanent tier list ignores where the player is going. Four radiation-reducing artifacts can be excellent for a contaminated bunker and wasteful on a short village supply run. A stamina stack can speed an ordinary map and make a radioactive anomaly field harder to survive.
For artifact chains and Nuclear Bunker exposure
Start with Nevalyashka or Dosimeter, then add GP-5 Filter or Soap only if the live total still preserves enough health. Carry an external cure anyway. The equipped build controls the meter; it does not guarantee an exit after repeated anomaly hits.
For long hauling routes
Jewelry Box, Volchok, or Clocks can expand movement margin. Match them to food, water, and radiation. If Clocks, Toy Truck, or Calculator pushes radiation upward, the extra stamina must shorten the route by more than the surcharge shortens your exposure budget.
For a weak bunker food loop
Star, Soap, or Jewelry Box can cushion hunger and thirst, but artifacts are not a replacement for clean water, safe food, crops, refrigeration, or cooking. An artifact slot that keeps a failing food system barely afloat is unavailable when a dangerous expedition needs radiation control.
For combat damage
Nevalyashka, Iron, Dosimeter, and Volchok can raise health in the documented snapshot. Check the whole build before stacking Iron: extra health paired with extra radiation may be worse inside the exact location where durability matters. Do not use a health total to justify fighting in an anomaly.
Community sources document duplicate stacking across the four artifact slots. The May hotfix repaired a problem equipping all artifacts, but any new build should be tested in the bunker: equip one item at a time, read the character sheet, then remove it and confirm the reversal. If the change does not match the card, keep the artifact stored until the client or a later patch resolves the behavior.
The safe pickup sequence prevents a good find from killing the run
- Expose the artifact, but do not open a long inventory comparison while standing in the active field.
- Pick it up and retreat to the marked edge.
- Lower accumulated radiation and stabilize health, hunger, thirst, and insanity.
- Inspect the live item card and note every negative sign.
- Equip it only if it improves the remaining return route. Otherwise carry it home or sell it.
- At the bunker, store one copy of each unique artifact until Collectioner has registered ten different types.
The achievement counts distinct artifacts, not ten total pickups. A duplicate may be valuable for stacking or sale, but it does not advance the unique-type requirement. The official Steam page currently lists 38 achievements; Shiny thingy triggers on the first artifact, while Collectioner requires ten different artifacts.
Sell the artifact when its slot has no job
Artifacts can be sold through the appropriate SIRZEZ trader. Older references quote fixed sale values, but current traders display item stats and the economy has been rebalanced several times. Compare the live sale value against three questions:
- Is this a new type needed for Collectioner?
- Does its stat pattern solve an expedition you actually plan to run?
- Would the money close a more urgent system gap such as medicine, a mask, repair, power, or clean food?
Keep a first unique copy until the achievement registers. Keep a duplicate only when you have tested the stack or need a replacement. Sell the object whose negative stats make it dead weight. An unequipped artifact locked in the bunker is safer than a “high tier” effect that causes radiation collapse halfway home.
Diagnose the field by what failed first
| Failure signal | Likely cause | Correction |
|---|---|---|
| Detector spikes but no object appears | The artifact is still outside reveal range, hidden against debris, or the spawn is behaving badly. | Back out, approach from another safe edge, scan the ground, and abandon the attempt before using the return reserve. |
| Radiation rises despite a protective suit | Protection is slowing exposure, not removing accumulated radiation. | Leave the source and use a verified negative-radiation item or treatment. |
| Health falls after an artifact is equipped | The item card includes a health penalty, added radiation, or the field caused another status. | Unequip it in safety and compare the character sheet; inspect bleeding and survival stats too. |
| Movement build cannot make it home | Extra stamina encouraged a longer route or carried a radiation surcharge. | Shorten the search radius and replace one speed item with cleanup or health. |
| Ten pickups do not unlock Collectioner | Duplicates were counted as if they were unique types. | Maintain a twelve-name checklist and look for a missing type. |
| All four slots equip but the totals look wrong | A stack, sign, or post-hotfix behavior differs from the old table. | Test one artifact at a time in the bunker and trust the current live readback. |
The correct artifact run ends twice: first when the object clears the anomaly field, and again when the survivor crosses the bunker door. Optimize the second ending.
Official identity and evidence boundary
The official Steam page for MISERY verifies App 2119830, Platypus Entertainment, Ytopia, the October 23, 2025 release, and the official JPGs used in this article. The May 21 official update introduced visible item/trader stats and separate mask/hat slots; the following official News feed entry on May 22 states that all artifacts can be equipped and includes minor fixes. Artifact names, detector behavior, anomaly signatures, and the June stat snapshot were rebuilt from multiple readable community guides. The blocked Fandom page, incomplete artifact list, fixed tier claims, and unverified future Factory content were not used as standalone evidence.
