The dangerous early decision in Pax Autocratica is not which gun to carry. It is how much of your colony to take with you. Soldiers assigned to an expedition stop working at the base until they return. A squad that looks powerful on the launch screen can quietly remove the hauler, cook, miner, or specialist holding an essential production chain together.
This guide is for the Early Access launch build available from August 10, 2026. It does not promise a fixed build order, a permanent core tier list, or a scripted Elysia walkthrough. Instead, it gives you readiness checks for a self-running first regime, a low-risk way to learn expeditions, and a clear decision for when to push the Sector Overlord rather than taking one more map node.
Your first expedition is an absence test
Before choosing a destination, stand in the base and imagine every selected squad member disappearing from the work board. If food, gathering, hauling, or a key crafting task becomes uncovered, the squad is not ready. Replace the departing worker, reduce the squad, or delay launch. Ship research can raise the number of soldiers you are allowed to bring, but capacity is not the same as a safe deployment size.
Open the Leader’s Agenda and look for three different types of warning:
- Production warning: a required resource is falling, a crafting order is waiting, or output is lying on the ground instead of reaching storage.
- Workforce warning: one unusually capable soldier is locked to several jobs, or the expedition list contains the only worker assigned to a necessary station.
- Human warning: a soldier is exhausted, protesting, close to a breakdown, or otherwise likely to stop contributing while you are away.
Do not clear the screen by moving every useful person into the squad. Clear it by leaving a functional second shift behind. A good first launch is one where the colony remains boring after the ship departs.
Make hauling automatic before production gets ambitious
Work assignment is partly automatic, but it still needs boundaries. Give soldiers basic resource jobs so they have something productive to return to after a temporary task. Lock genuine specialists to the work they perform well, then disable categories that would pull poor workers into important positions. This reduces the chance that the automatic system solves a small shortage by creating a larger one elsewhere.
The Resource Transport Station is the turning point for a growing base. Its workers can collect loose output and pull directly from Greenhouses, Animal Farms, Deep Drill Towers, and Wood Harvest Plants before moving those goods to the Warehouse Center. If a production building is idle while finished output sits at its source, more extraction is not the fix. The missing link is transport.
Once the Warehouse Center unlocks the three crafting modes, use each for a different job:
- Order Mode is for a known quantity, such as a specific expedition loadout or a short construction requirement.
- Stock Mode is for supplies that should be replaced whenever they fall below your chosen buffer.
- Continuous Mode is for an input you truly want produced whenever materials exist. Do not apply it to everything, or one line can consume resources needed by the others.

Test the system with one short cycle before leaving. Let extraction create output, watch transport deliver it, and confirm the next crafting stage begins without your intervention. If you have to carry items or reassign someone to restart the chain, it is not automated yet.
Research mobility early, but earn a larger squad
The Tactical Bureau is a strong early research target because it opens combat abilities, additional Core Fragment capacity, and mobility options such as hovering, flight, and double jumping. Those upgrades improve fights and shorten the physical trip between systems in a first-person base. That convenience matters in a colony where management is spread across buildings and interfaces.
Ship technologies are the second part of the equation because they increase expedition squad capacity. The safe order is conditional: get the Bureau online, stabilize unattended production, then expand the ship when you can leave more workers without exposing a shortage. If a larger manifest takes your only hauler or empties food production, the new slot is future capacity, not permission to fill it immediately.
Give each expedition one job
An expedition does not have to conquer the sector. It can gather resources, visit merchants, or capture new citizens and return. Choose the job before opening the map, because the choice changes what you carry and what counts as success.
- Supply run: protect inventory and avoid optional battles that do not improve the haul. Return when the resources solve the base bottleneck you identified.
- Trade run: bring crafted meals or equipment rather than relying on low-value raw materials. The objective is CredChips and a cleaner warehouse, not maximum combat progress.
- Recruitment run: pack Capture Rounds, preserve the target, and keep enough squad control to extract safely after the capture.
- Sector push: build a coherent Core Fragment setup and accept rising Enemy Strength because the final battle is the actual goal.
If you cannot state the job in one sentence, you are likely carrying too many priorities. That encourages one more detour, one more fight, and a return with damaged soldiers plus a random inventory that solves nothing at home.
Control Enemy Strength and Expedition Progress separately
Exploring more of the star map raises Enemy Strength. Winning battles raises Expedition Progress, and reaching 100% exposes the final battle. These meters create the central Overlord decision: challenge the finale sooner against lower opposition, or keep exploring for Core Fragments and other value while accepting a stronger enemy.
Do not answer that decision with a universal number. Use the run in front of you:
- Fight the final battle now when your weapon and Core Fragment effects already support one another, the squad is healthy, and additional nodes mostly add danger rather than repair a weakness.
- Explore one more branch when the build is missing a functional link, the map offers a concrete resource or merchant you need, and the squad can absorb the added Enemy Strength.
- Return home when the expedition has already completed its supply, trade, or recruitment job. Sector ownership can wait; a useful haul does not become more useful because you risk it against the Overlord.
Core Fragments should be judged as a system, not as isolated rarity. Weapon effects, abilities, and Combination Cores can create a playstyle that is stronger than a pile of individually attractive picks. When a new fragment does not reinforce the current weapon or squad plan, declining the detour can be the better upgrade.
Fight as the squad’s anchor
Your soldiers are the main battlefield advantage, so do not sprint far enough ahead to turn a squad fight into several isolated duels. Use movement orders to cross exposed ground, follow commands to pull the group back into formation, and focus fire when an elite or dangerous affix needs to disappear before the rest of the wave.
Medics and Second Chance are preparation tools, not excuses to ignore positioning. A medic only helps if you can reach the interaction without standing inside the same danger that caused the damage. Second Chance protects a promising run from one mistake; it should not be the first step of the plan. In large projectile patterns, create space and keep the squad on a readable side of the fight before chasing damage.
Melee has a specific sustain role. A well-timed melee kill can replenish ammunition and improve the chance of useful health or consumable drops. Use it on an isolated, weakened enemy when the approach is safe. Diving through a live firing line for an ammo refund spends more health and squad cohesion than it returns.
Capture value, not merely another body
Capture Rounds turn an enemy into potential workforce and military growth, but the attempt changes the fight. You must preserve the target, spend time subduing it, and survive the extraction. Bring enough rounds before launch and decide which enemy is worth that exposure. Elite and Boss enemies retain their affixes after capture, so a useful unit type with a strong affix can be much more valuable than the nearest weakened target.

Before taking the shot, ask where the captive goes next. A prisoner requires base capacity and further decisions; a converted citizen requires a job, equipment, and a stable social environment. If the colony cannot absorb the result, killing the immediate threat or returning with the captive you already have may be the safer strategic choice.
Use three short sorties to learn the regime
The following ramp is a diagnostic sequence, not a fixed quest order. Repeat a stage whenever its return reveals a broken dependency.
| Sortie | Purpose | Pass condition before escalating |
|---|---|---|
| 1 – Supply | Take a small squad, gather or trade, and return before a sector commitment. | The base kept food, transport, and one necessary crafting line running during the absence. |
| 2 – Recruitment | Carry Capture Rounds and bring home one target chosen for role or affix. | The squad stayed controllable and the colony had room, work, and equipment for the new arrival. |
| 3 – Sector push | Reach 100% Expedition Progress and make a deliberate Overlord timing decision. | Your Core Fragment plan is coherent, the squad is healthy, and another map node has a specific benefit worth its Enemy Strength cost. |
After every return, check the Leader’s Agenda before spending the haul. A run that looked successful may have exposed a missing hauler, an exhausted specialist, or food that was only stable because you returned quickly. Repair that weak link first; then invest the surplus.
Govern the people who keep the loop moving
Morale, Fear, and Loyalty affect more than a decorative approval bar. A poor mental or political state can reduce work and combat performance, lead to protests, spread dissatisfaction, cause desertion, or end in a breakdown. The useful early habit is to watch direction and behavior rather than chase an unsupported threshold.
Rewards, punishments, policies, imprisonment, and executions can also travel through relationships. Friends, rivals, family members, and lovers may react to what happens to one citizen. Before solving one protest with the harshest available action, inspect who else will receive that message. The immediate worker may return to line while several connected workers become the next production problem.
There is no single required fear-versus-comfort route in the verified launch guidance. Pick a governing approach deliberately, observe how traits and relationships change the response, and make one correction at a time. If you change policy, punishment, work assignment, food, and housing together, you will not know which intervention stabilized the colony.
Failure is cheaper when you name the loss
You can abort an expedition and retreat without sacrificing existing soldiers, blueprints, or earlier progression. A defeat costs part of the resources gathered during that expedition rather than erasing the whole regime. Difficulty can be changed at the base, and harder settings offer better rewards.
Use those rules to diagnose instead of grind. If the base failed during your absence, shorten the next run and repair automation. If the squad collapsed, lower difficulty or reduce Enemy Strength until movement and focus-fire orders are reliable. If the Overlord survived while ordinary nodes were comfortable, keep the difficulty and rebuild the Core Fragment or squad plan around the actual failure. Changing all three at once hides the lesson.
Early Access boundary and official game link
Pax Autocratica entered Early Access on August 10, 2026, and the developer has already adjusted soldier behavior, capture probability, difficulty rewards, weapon balance, Core Fragment unlocks, ship technologies, and production presentation during the lead-up to launch. Treat exact costs, drop behavior, and named balance recommendations as patch-sensitive. The readiness tests in this guide are built around relationships between systems, but a later update can still change a menu, technology position, or reward.
Check the current build and announcements on the official Pax Autocratica Steam page before following an older video or a guide that promises fixed Commander XP routes, turn-based combat, diplomacy farming, or permanent percentage thresholds. Those claims do not match the verified launch game.
