A Mistfall Hunter key is not a destination marker. It tells you which lock can open, but the useful route comes from a map, a named landmark, and one visual checkpoint near the chest. The six routes below cover the supplied Hallowgrove and Brandrgarde references without pretending to be an all-keys atlas.
Exact key drops and chest rewards are random. Bring only keys whose lock you can identify, check remaining uses in the current client, and turn around when the Gyldenmist or nearby players remove a safe approach. Locations were checked against readable guides available through August 10, 2026; map labels may shift in later updates.
Protect the key before choosing the lock
Keys can arrive as unidentified loot from enemies and containers, and some can be bought through the Auction House. Neither path guarantees a profitable run. Auction listings move, unidentified results are random, and each key can have a limited number of uses. Inspect the live item rather than relying on a launch-week price or durability table.
Place the selected key in Pip’s Keychain before entering. That keeps the run’s access item from competing with ordinary bag space and protects it according to the Keychain shown by the current client. Cazarro’s Secret Shop, unlocked through Shop progression, provides later Keychain support; that is an account-progression dependency, not a step to solve after loading into the map.
Carry one route plan per key:
- Name the map and target POI before queueing.
- Choose one approach landmark and one abort landmark.
- Reserve protected space for the best chest result.
- Check a return option before opening the lock.
If the party cannot agree which map contains the lock, leave the key at camp. A valuable key carried into the wrong map is only risk with no objective.
Six chest checkpoints at a glance
| Key | Map | Approach checkpoint | Final visual check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Demigod Coast | Hallowgrove | Southeast Demigod Coast POI | Loot room just south of the POI |
| Verdant Grounds | Hallowgrove | Main building at Verdant Grounds | Descend the rocky slope on its south side |
| Watchtower | Hallowgrove | Road between Einherjar Ship Grave and Gravekeeper’s Hut | Chest inside the overlooking tower used during Digging Deeper |
| Abandoned Furnace | Brandrgarde | Leave Drill Yard through the north gate and turn right | Abandoned Forge detour with furnaces and anvils |
| Maw of the Abyss | Brandrgarde | Deepest level between Ancient Array and Cobalt Grove | Small passage guarded by a Corrupted Heavy Knight; chest between rocks |
| Ritual Vault | Brandrgarde | Southern staircase toward the Vault’s upper floor | Lower corner with an altar and lit candles behind the chest |
This table is a recognition sheet, not a claim that every map state produces the same enemies, open chest, or return path. Use the POI name to orient, then require the visual check before spending a key use.
Demigod Coast: work from the southeast edge inward
On Hallowgrove, travel to the Demigod Coast POI in the southeast corner. The locked room is just south of the named area. Because the route lies near map-edge spawn approaches, do not sprint straight to the door after seeing the label. Pause at cover, listen for another party entering from the edge, and clear the room’s approach before exposing the key interaction.
Current references note dogs and armored salamanders around the entrance. The exact group can vary, so the decision point is the doorway, not a memorized enemy count. If creatures are already agitated before your party arrives, assume another player may have crossed the area. Hold the key, clear sightlines, and verify that the room is still closed.
Open only when the party has assigned one player to watch the approach. After looting, use protected space immediately and leave by the safest current route; do not assume the nearest return point from an older map screenshot remains uncontested.
Verdant Grounds: find the slope, not another front door
The Verdant Grounds lock is also on Hallowgrove, but its final movement is vertical. Reach the main building at the Verdant Grounds POI, move to its south side, and look for the rocky slope descending toward the loot room. Searching the building’s obvious entrances wastes time because the lock sits below that main landmark.
Use the top of the slope as the commitment point. From there, check whether enemies below are idle, fighting, or missing. Idle defenders suggest the route may be untouched; active or absent enemies can signal recent traffic. Do not descend into a narrow approach until the team knows how it will leave.
Once the room is open, sort inside only if the area remains quiet. If combat starts above the slope, take the highest-priority item, place it in protected storage, and avoid fighting uphill through the same funnel unless no other path exists.
Watchtower: expect traffic from three directions
The Hallowgrove Watchtower stands over the road between Einherjar Ship Grave and Gravekeeper’s Hut. It is the same general zone visited during Digging Deeper, which makes the structure easier to recognize but also makes the route predictable to other players. The chest is inside the tower, not at the separate Watchtower landmark in Windrest.
Approach off the road where possible and stop before entering the tower’s line of sight. Nearby spawn routes and quest traffic can converge here. An open door, missing defenders, or recent combat sound is a reason to preserve the key use and watch rather than rush a chest that may already be opened.
Before unlocking, check the road in both directions and the Gravekeeper’s Hut side. The tower gives a recognizable destination but can also advertise your position. Loot quickly, then reassess the current return markers instead of following a static “safest route” from a reference image.
Abandoned Furnace: turn right after Drill Yard’s north gate
On Brandrgarde, use Drill Yard as the anchor. Leave through its upper or north gate, turn right, and follow the path toward the northeastern side until a small detour is labeled Abandoned Forge. Furnaces, anvils, and other blacksmithing equipment confirm the correct pocket; the keyed chest sits among that equipment.
The wrong turn signal is simple: if the route continues without forge objects or pulls you back into Drill Yard’s central pit and scaffolds, reset to the north gate. Do not spend the run searching every industrial-looking corner across the map.
Drill Yard can also contain enemies and containers that roll unidentified items, but those are chances to find keys, not a guarantee of this exact one. If you already brought the Abandoned Furnace key, treat extra farming as optional. Reach the forge, open the known lock, and preserve the resulting upgrade material rather than converting a precise run into an open-ended loot circuit.
Maw of the Abyss: descend to the map’s deepest route
The Maw chest is the most navigation-sensitive route in this set. On Brandrgarde, descend toward the deepest level between Ancient Array and Cobalt Grove. A spawn below Fungholm places you relatively close, but the useful instructions are environmental: follow the crevice downward, use the available Updraft routes to change level, and look for a Corrupted Heavy Knight guarding a small passage below the Updraft points.
The chest is hidden between rocks beyond that passage. Do not confuse “between Ancient Array and Cobalt Grove” with a surface-line route. If you can see the right POI names but have not descended through the crevice, you are likely on the wrong elevation.
Treat the Heavy Knight as a gate. Starting that fight commits time and broadcasts activity in a constrained area. If the Gyldenmist has already removed the climb-back route, or another team controls the Updraft, save the key for another attempt. The chest reward is random; the key should not force a doomed descent.
Ritual Vault: search below the southern stairs
For Ritual Vault on Brandrgarde, orient around the staircase on the south side that leads toward the upper floor. The chest is below that stair path, tucked into a corner. An altar with lit candles behind it is the final confirmation that you have the correct lock.
The nearby rooms can contain Corroded enemies, and the enclosed geometry makes fire or pressure attacks harder to avoid. Clear the corner before opening the inventory or key prompt. If enemies keep entering from the stair, move the fight away from the altar so the player carrying the key is not trapped against the chest.
References place potential Ritual Vault key rolls around the Torture Chamber north of Main Hall and around Hero’s Rest or the Graveyard. Treat those as search zones for unidentified loot, not guaranteed spawns. Buying through the Auction House can remove the search step, but it does not remove the map risk; check the live price and remaining uses before paying.
Farm unidentified keys without inventing drop guarantees
Several current routes point to the same broad sources: map-marked elites, guarded containers, gold-highlighted high-value areas, effigies around places such as Supreme Hall, and ordinary chests in named POIs. The item can still resolve into another key or material. Words such as “high chance” in a single run report are not reliable drop rates.
A better method is to separate acquisition from use. During general farming, collect unidentified items and bank the resulting keys. At camp, group them by map and named lock. Only then select one or two compatible objectives for the next expedition. This prevents a random find from pulling the party across several contested POIs while carrying unrelated value.
The Auction House is the deterministic acquisition interface, not a deterministic profit source. Before buying, inspect three numbers in the current UI: price, remaining uses, and the amount of protected Keychain capacity available. If any one makes the run unacceptable, wait for another listing or farm normally.
Use a chest-open abort rule
Opening the door does not finish the task. Apply one abort rule before the key turns: if enemy audio, Gyldenmist movement, or a lost return path prevents the group from sorting safely, take the single hardest-to-replace item and leave the rest. The correct priority is account progress, not emptying every container.
After the run, record which checkpoint failed. If the party never found the landmark, correct the map route. If it found the landmark but not the visual check, correct elevation or side of the POI. If it opened the chest but lost the haul, the next improvement belongs to timing, protection, or extraction planning—not another location guide.
Sources and current-client boundary
The live title, release record, and screenshot provenance come from the Mistfall Hunter Steam listing; Bellring Games and its notices bound the route to information available through August 7, 2026. Location references for the six locks were reduced to repeatable POI and visual checks. The supplied evidence does not independently establish drop rates, prices, durability totals, chest quality, player counts, or permanent extraction routes, so none is promised here.
