War in the North Achievement Roadmap: Missables, Three Runs, and Co-op

Farin fighting during the siege while Beleram flies above in War in the North

War in the North completion is lost at campaign transitions, not on the final achievement screen. The dangerous moments are leaving Rivendell without speaking to Frodo or activating the Lidless Eye investigation, walking away from a scroll carrier before the counter changes, selling the fifth piece of a set, and summoning Beleram in the final fight you meant to use for Eagle Savior.

Evidence cutoff: August 12, 2026, for the original 2011 release. Steam now lists the game as unavailable for purchase, and no current online-service test was performed. Achievement names and availability can differ by platform; confirm the live list on your copy before committing to co-op cleanup. The route uses three campaign difficulties because Heroic opens after Normal and Legendary opens after Heroic.

Give each run a different job

Run Main job Character emphasis Do not leave behind
Normal Story, hubs, side quests, Lidless Eye, Eagle Savior, set collection Any comfortable hero; switch when a class secret matters Frodo, Elrond’s investigation dialogue, seven scroll confirmations, final-boss Beleram restriction
Heroic Second difficulty, skill-tree cleanup, headshots or damage tasks Eradan is convenient for headshots; any finished build can clear the story A controlled respec point and a full-level plan for Living Shield
Legendary Final difficulty and remaining class-specific crafting Andriel makes Herb-master natural; switching remains possible Enough ingredients for 15 potions and the final completion trigger
Co-op cleanup Strength of Our Alliance and trading missing set pieces if the platform still supports it Three players on the same difficulty state A verified live connection; do not assume a 2016 PC workaround is current

You do not have to finish Heroic or Legendary with the hero used for one skill achievement. The campaign lets you change characters between levels. Use that flexibility to perform a class-specific task, then return to the build that clears the run reliably.

Make Normal the no-regret campaign

Keep every armor-set piece until Well-arrayed is solved, pass class-locked pieces to the matching hero, and inspect hidden walls, glyphs, tracks, and chests. Use Beleram during the campaign often enough to progress his summon achievement, but make a visible note before Carn Dûm that the final Agandaûr fight has a different rule.

Fornost is the first checkpoint cluster. Revive a fallen ally when the opportunity occurs, use critical prompts during a crowded underground wave for the three-critical streak, slot an elf-stone when one becomes available, and use the war machines rather than ignoring them. The first Lidless Eye scroll comes from the enemy mage near the first Battlements war machine. Pick it up; a dead carrier and an unchanged counter are not completion.

In the Barrow-downs, take the side tombs, inspect secret areas with the controlled hero, and use the challenge missions later if a 50-hit Hero Mode streak is still missing. At the Barrow Wight Lord, clear the undead waves, attack while the possessed Ranger is exposed, and hide behind the pillars for his raised wave. Rivendell immediately after this level is the most important hub audit of the run.

  • Speak to Frodo before leaving for the first time.
  • Show Elrond the first Lidless Eye scroll and confirm the investigation appears in the quest state.
  • Talk to the other quest holders so later side objectives can spawn.
  • Check every hero’s inventory before selling a set piece that appears unusable on the current character.

Lock the Lidless Eye counter before Nordinbad

The seven scrolls are distributed across the campaign, and several come from enemies rather than fixed chests. Looting the corpse or chest matters. After every step, check the counter before crossing the next travel barrier.

Scroll Campaign checkpoint Action Failure check
1 Fornost, the Battlements Kill the mage near the first war machine and collect the drop; later discuss it with Elrond No investigation entry after the first Rivendell visit
2 Ettenmoors, the Coldfells After Beleram returns, reach the creek below the side ledge and open the hidden chest beside the water The chest is open but the counter remains at 1/7
3 Ettenmoors, the High Moors Loot the enemy mage near the natural stone bridge The mage is dead and the party crosses the bridge without checking the ground
4 Mount Gundabad After the moving chains, descend near the second chain and search the lower left area; the chest is opposite a checkpoint route You activate the checkpoint before inspecting the lower floor
5 Mirkwood Defeat Wulfrun and pick up the scroll from the boss drop before moving into the woods The boss scene ends but the counter stays at 4/7
6 Urgost’s Lair, great gate Kill and loot the mage positioned by the large gate You clear the gate fight and follow the route without sweeping the drop area
7 Late Urgost’s Lair, before the dragon transition Loot the final elite or captain carrying the last intel and require a visible 7/7 counter Surviving guides disagree on whether the carrier should be labeled a wizard or Carn Dûm captain; trust the location, drop, and counter rather than the enemy label

Return to Rivendell and speak to Elrond after the seventh scroll, before treating the investigation as finished. The achievement is tied to resolving the quest, not merely holding seven items. If Elrond has no completion dialogue, recheck the counter and the earlier activation conversation; do not proceed to the siege hoping it will repair itself.

Reserve the Normal final boss for Eagle Savior

At Carn Dûm, Beleram offers help during the Agandaûr sequence. For Eagle Savior, do not summon him during the final boss. Normal is the least costly run for this restriction because later difficulties make the same fight more punishing.

Remove the summon from your mental combat loop before entering the arena. Use dodge and positioning for Agandaûr’s projectiles, teleports, troll support, and faster second phase. The success check is simple: Agandaûr dies, the campaign completes on Normal, and no Beleram assist was called during that fight. Earlier campaign summons do not replace this boss-specific audit.

Use one respec checkpoint for the skill-tree achievements

Warrior Exemplar requires every modifier attached to a hero’s class skill: War Cry, Sanctuary, or Evasion. Battle-master requires every active-cast ability in one character’s tree. These goals pull points across the tree and may not match the build you want for Heroic.

Buy a Re-spec Token and create a controlled checkpoint before spending it. First map every class-skill modifier and every active ability from the current in-game tree. Complete one layout, confirm the achievement unlock, then restore or respec into the second layout. Do not depend on an old dashboard-close trick or a guessed minimum level. The evidence supports the respec method and the categories of skills, but the current client and platform achievement pop are the authoritative success checks.

Once both are confirmed, return to the combat build that can finish Heroic. A completion layout with one point scattered into every active skill is an audit tool, not necessarily a safe high-difficulty build.

Attach the grind achievements to a level plan

Headshots, damage totals, and class tasks are safer when assigned to a whole level instead of attempted during a random boss.

Living Shield

The requirement is to absorb 25,000 total damage during one level, not to block that amount with a shield. A surviving route assigns the task to the first level on Legendary and lets ordinary orcs deal the damage, but old exact farming instructions are risky and platform tracking can vary. Choose a level you can replay, bring a large potion reserve, remove excess offense if enemies die too quickly, and confirm the achievement during the same level rather than assuming damage carries into the next one.

Keen-eyed Marksman

Use Eradan for a full campaign section and aim for 50 headshot kills in that playthrough. Ordinary archers and controlled melee targets are better than chaotic bosses. If a shot only damages the head but another source gets the kill, do not count it mentally. Continue until the platform confirms the achievement.

War-machinist and large kill totals

Use every turret in Fornost and the Siege of Nordinbad instead of saving the grind for a separate file. The siege supplies dense waves and fixed machines. Track the achievement pop, not an estimated body count, because kills from AI companions or another player may not belong to your counter.

Herb-master

Andriel is the hero who can harvest the herbs needed for alchemy, even though the inventory combination system is not otherwise restricted to her. Combine two compatible ingredients to make a potion and create 15 potions in one playthrough. Different consumables can coexist, but identical effects do not necessarily stack, so craft for the achievement while preserving useful recovery items for Legendary.

Treat Well-arrayed as a six-slot inventory audit

A set uses headpiece, shoulders, body, gloves, leggings, and boots. A two-piece or larger partial bonus does not satisfy Well-arrayed; one hero must wear all six matching parts. General sets can be worn by each class, while class-specific pieces must go to Eradan, Farin, or Andriel as marked.

The inventory creates two traps. Equipped items on another hero may not appear where you expect while viewing the current character, and class-exclusive pieces can look unusable even though they are valuable to a companion. Before selling:

  1. Check the set name, not only the armor value.
  2. Move or hand class-specific items to the intended hero.
  3. Inspect all three heroes for pieces already worn.
  4. Keep one best candidate set in a six-slot checklist.
  5. Equip all six together and wait for the achievement confirmation before replacing weak pieces.

Surviving set lists include general, class-specific, and pre-order sets. Do not plan completion around a pre-order set that your copy cannot obtain. Alliance and Stronghold are often suggested as practical general candidates, but no drop rate is guaranteed. Visit merchants after missions, compare every hero’s inventory, and keep progressing through the three required difficulties; repeated loot opportunities are more reliable than farming an unsupported location claim.

Separate co-op cleanup from the campaign

Strength of Our Alliance requires three players to kill one enemy together. Surviving reports describe it as sensitive to timing and sometimes unreliable. Put all three players on the same difficulty state, let one player host, reduce a durable enemy to a controlled health range, then have all three enter the shared critical or fellowship kill window together. A normal three-person attack in the same room is not enough if the game does not register a group kill.

The PC game was designed for online co-op and the old community couch setup launches multiple game and Steam instances through third-party software. That procedure dates from 2016, carries warning banners, asks for multiple licensed copies, and has later crash reports. It is not a verified 2026 solution and is excluded from this roadmap. Confirm that your platform can still create a session before planning the final achievement around online trading or a three-player kill.

Run this audit before the last Carn Dûm push

  • Frodo conversation completed during the first Rivendell visit.
  • Lidless Eye investigation activated with Elrond, counter at 7/7, and quest turned in.
  • At least one six-piece armor set is stored across known heroes and slots.
  • Normal final boss is marked “no Beleram.”
  • Heroic and Legendary have separate jobs rather than repeating every Normal collectible.
  • Skill-tree respec checkpoint exists before the completion layouts are tested.
  • Any co-op-only cleanup is labeled platform-dependent, not assumed available.

This plan does not make every achievement automatic. It removes the expensive surprises: replaying a campaign for one conversation, losing a scroll in an unchecked drop, discovering that the complete set was sold across three inventories, or reaching Legendary with all the remaining tasks assigned to the wrong hero.

Metadata, platform, and service limits

For metadata and official-media provenance, the Steam AppID 32800 listing confirms the November 2011 date, Snowblind/Warner credits, achievement category, and delisted status. The difficulty sequence, unlock conditions, seven-scroll trail, armor handling, and class jobs were reconciled with multiple readable community and walkthrough references. This roadmap deliberately leaves server availability, drop-rate guarantees, legacy exploits, and the 2016 multi-instance setup outside its promises.
