Do not spend the first run taking every opposite choice. Tormentum II has 70 Steam achievements, and the expensive cleanup is controlled by four things: a save before each decision, the three possible companions, the state of the cat-masked thief, and a protected save before the final island. Build one companion-positive route, peel off short branch achievements by reloading, then use the thief fork for the other ending family.
Evidence window: this roadmap was checked on August 13, 2026. The latest official update listed by OhNoo Studio was version 1.0.73, released on August 11. Steam lists save-anywhere support, and 1.0.73 explicitly kept existing save names and the save format compatible. The readable achievement guide was updated on August 12, but its author also warns that some ending-name combinations may not be exact. For that reason, the route below is firm about decision checkpoints and official achievement names, while the ending section uses a test matrix and tells you what to verify in the current client.
Build a save ladder before the prison starts branching
A single rotating save is not enough. The last island can replay final choices, but it cannot repair a dead companion or change what happened to the thief several islands earlier. Make three kinds of manual save:
| Save layer | Create it here | Do not overwrite it until |
|---|---|---|
| Route anchor | Before releasing the giant worm in the prison | All companion-positive endings and the opposite prison branches are recorded |
| Decision fork | Before a choice menu or before using a unique item on one of two targets | Both achievement toasts have been checked |
| Ending fork | Before deciding whether the cat-masked thief is trapped, and again before departing for the final island | Both thief states and every companion-count test are finished |
Name saves after the state they preserve, not the room art: Prison – Cube Alive, Forest – Before Life Machine, Fruit – Before Door, Heart – Before Take, and Final – 3 Companions are much harder to confuse than Save 5 or Island. When you branch for an achievement, confirm the Steam toast, return to the fork, and continue on the route state you actually want.
If Continue stops responding after you load and return to the main menu during the same session, update the game. Version 1.0.73 fixed that exact sequence; older builds required a restart. Do not delete or rebuild the route ladder, because the same patch states that old saves remain compatible.
Use story achievements as island-exit checks
Thirty-seven achievements sit on the main puzzle route. Treat them as progress markers rather than separate detours. Before leaving an island, compare your recent unlocks with its row. A missing marker means you should inspect the current puzzle or transition before adding another choice branch to the problem.
| Route segment | Expected story and puzzle achievements | What the row tells you |
|---|---|---|
| Apartment building | Awakening in a Cage; Elevator; The Cure; Promised Land; Right Pitch; Hidden Message | The real-world opening, elevator, cure decision, server route, and computer interactions have all advanced. |
| Prison and tunnels | In Tormentum’s Embrace; Just Looking Around…; Exile; Miracle Water; Closer to the Light; Telescope; The Map; The Third Meeting; Beyond the Horizon | You escaped the cells, resolved the worm route, fed the treant, activated the telescope, reached the cartographer, and completed the horizon detour. |
| Fruit island | Echoes of Bygone Days; Old Secrets | The old machine and the cat-masked man’s story have both been reached. |
| Forest island | Pipelines; Good Energy; The Deep Well; The Coin | The tower utilities and Life Machine access are ready for the three-way experiment fork. |
| Windmill island | Winds of Change | The windmill has been restored before the route moves on. |
| Winter fortress | Ice Gate; A Cold Ride; A Great Secret | The gate, moving platform, and island secret have all resolved. |
| Dolmaker’s first visit | Hungry Dolls; Blood Trail | The dolls and the passage into the Fortress of Hearts are complete. |
| Fortress of Hearts | The Seventh Heart; Masks; The Heart | You heard the record, reached the painter’s route, and created the heart-choice fork. |
| Dolmaker’s return | Golem; The Labyrinth; The Chest | The Golem exists, the maze exit is found, and the dream chest has been opened. |
| Floating island | Icarus; Point of No Return; EVE; We Live in a Simulation | The final ascent and simulation revelations have reached their story checkpoints. |
This table deliberately does not turn achievement titles into invented puzzle solutions. If a mechanism is blocking progress, solve the visible clue in the current notebook or scene, then use the next named unlock as confirmation. Patch 1.0.72 also made the three-movable-eyes wall mechanism and the four-rotating-discs sculpture playable entirely by keyboard: use the arrow keys to move between elements and E or Enter to interact.
Collect four missables while their objects are still available
The free-standing missables are easy to forget because they are not the result of a large moral-choice screen. Put each one beside a route landmark:
- Echoes of the Past: inspect the art in David’s opening apartment and office. The community-tested trigger was the poster below the monitors on the office’s right side. If that one inspection does not unlock the achievement, inspect the other apartment posters before leaving the opening area; the public evidence does not justify a smaller guaranteed set.
- Empathy: interact with all three non-human companions: the Brain creature beside the cartographer, the white hyena in the winter fortress, and the Golem when it is standing near Babushka before the labyrinth. Do not enter the maze until the Golem interaction has registered.
- Art Connoisseur: inspect paintings around the painter in the Fortress of Hearts. The readable route confirms the gallery location but not a safe minimum count, so continue through the displayed works until the achievement appears.
- Constructive Criticism: preserve the horn instead of surrendering it at the newborn’s pedestal, then destroy six paintings in the gallery. Version 1.0.7 fixed an unlock bug for this exact achievement. On an affected existing save, the developer says to inspect a painting again after updating.

Conflict to plan around: Constructive Criticism wants the horn in your inventory, while Gift for a King spends it at the pedestal. Save before resolving the newborn scene. Take the destructive branch, finish the six paintings and confirm the toast, then reload and offer the horn for the companion-positive route.
Leave the prison with three companion paths intact
The prison contains three pairs of mutually exclusive achievements. The efficient pattern is always the same: save at the last neutral moment, take the hostile or fatal branch for its toast, reload, then keep the survivor-positive state.
| Decision | Short branch to record | State to carry forward |
|---|---|---|
| Cube Head and the giant worm | Allow the worm to kill the prisoner for Trust No One. | Reload and save Cube Head before releasing the worm for Brotherly Hand. |
| Red-Haired woman | Let Cube Head take revenge for Sweet Revenge. | Reload and go upstairs to meet the woman first for Face to Face, keeping her alive. |
| Woman in Black and the unfinished being | Use the blade on the unfinished being for Mercy. | Reload and cut the prisoner’s ropes for Pearl Heart, freeing the Woman in Black. |
Do not confuse an achievement reload with the state you want at the end. Cube Head needs to be alive for his later recruitment test; the Red-Haired woman needs both her own survival and a later lizard rescue; the Woman in Black needs freedom plus two later decisions. After the third reload, open the companion-positive save and continue only from the branch where all three are still possible.

Turn the Life Machine into three quick reloads
At the forest Life Machine, save before placing any of the three living samples. The main plate selects the achievement path; put the other two samples on the side plates, complete the machine sequence, verify the toast, and reload:
- The Experiment: Embryo on the main plate.
- Incubation: Egg on the main plate.
- Adaptation: Fish on the main plate.
Keep whichever resulting state you prefer only after all three names are present in Steam. If the wrong achievement appears, the error is the selected main sample, not a reason to replay the pipe, power, well, or coin route.
When you return to the forest and reach the newborn, create another fork. Killing it records Bloody Cleaner and leaves the horn available for Constructive Criticism. Placing the horn on the pedestal records Gift for a King and is the community-tested state for the Woman in Black’s positive companion route. Finish the gallery destruction on the first branch, then reload and carry the gift branch forward.
Keep both thief states before time moves on
After the Fruit Island rewind, save before the door decision involving the cat-masked man. Locking the door records Just in Case; the official description identifies that action as keeping the thief out. Preserve a save from before this choice even after the achievement appears.
This is not ordinary five-minute cleanup. The readable ending reference reports that the trapped-versus-active thief state changes which final scenes can occur, and a final-island save cannot rewrite it. Maintain two clearly labeled branches:
- Thief contained: use this as the first companion-positive ending branch.
- Thief active: retain the opposite door state for the endings in which he interferes with the protagonist or the silicon brain.
The source does not establish a universal one-to-one ending formula, so do not delete either branch after seeing one ending. The achievement toast and final scene in your current build are the acceptance tests.
Close the winter, labyrinth, and heart forks in a safe order
The later islands finish the companion checklist and add five choice achievements:
- Dignity: refuse to bow to the imprisoned ruler at the first winter-fortress choice.
- The Messiah / Hidden: save before opening the portal-side door to the worshippers. Reveal yourself for The Messiah, then reload and remain unseen for Hidden. The community-tested all-companion route carries the Messiah state because Cube Head is reported to respond to being shown his creator.
- Lizard King: in the labyrinth, check the marked location along the map’s right edge before taking the exit. Rescue the lizard; this is the later pet condition attached to the Red-Haired woman’s route.
- Sabotage / Transplant: after filling the replacement heart, save before taking one. The official descriptions define Sabotage as taking the new heart and Transplant as taking the old heart. Record both, then carry the new-heart branch for the community-tested Woman in Black route.
- Always Alone: save before departure for the final island, then choose to travel alone once. Reload the pre-departure save before testing companion rosters.

The three-companion checklist is therefore: Cube Head alive plus the Messiah state; Red-Haired woman alive plus the lizard rescued; Woman in Black freed plus the horn offered and the new heart taken. This is a community-tested sufficient route, not a proven list of individually necessary flags. Confirm the actual available roster before leaving for the final island.
Test endings by thief state and companion count
Make a master save before departure and another after reaching the last island if the game still allows a neutral final choice. Run the cheaper contained-thief tests first. The order below is a diagnostic plan built from reported outcomes; it is not a promise that several named achievements will all pop from one selection.
| Branch to test | Roster or action | Achievements and outcome signals to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Contained thief | Go alone | Death in Solitude; compare the final capture/stone-slab outcome with the toast. |
| Contained thief | Bring one companion, tested first with Cube Head or the Red-Haired woman | Eternal Slumber; verify that the companion changes the escape attempt but not the final trapped state. |
| Contained thief | Bring all three available companions, then vary the final action if offered | Stick Together, Harbinger of Hope, and No place like home… belong to this positive cluster, but record which toast follows each current-client choice. |
| Active thief | Go alone | Is my blood real? and Returns are reported around the branch where the thief replaces the protagonist. Treat the death and real-world replacement scenes as outcome checks. |
| Active thief | Bring two companions; Cube Head plus the Red-Haired woman is the tested pair | Structural Decay and Odyssey are reported around the destroyed-CPU branch. Verify both the silicon-brain event and the destination scene. |
If an expected ending name does not appear, do not replay the entire game immediately. Write down the thief branch, companion roster, final action, visible outcome, and achievements that did unlock. Reload the nearest ending save and change one variable. A different roster and a different final action changed at the same time will not tell you which flag mattered.
Use the recorded playthrough as a scene locator, not an ending formula
The supplied walkthrough reference was independently identified through YouTube oEmbed as TORMENTUM2 – walkthrough with comments by POWERGIRL_BE. A separately supplied 3:56:01 local MP4 was visually checked across the opening, islands, puzzles, notebook screens, and late-game scenes and matches Tormentum II’s full-release route. The online watch page required sign-in during capture, so the local file is not claimed to be byte-identical to the embed, and one linear run cannot prove every ending combination.
Use the video to recognize a room, mechanism, or transition after the written checkpoint tells you where the route broke. Do not infer a missed achievement merely because the recorded player chose another moral branch.
Repair a missing unlock before repeating the route
| Failure signal | First check | Recovery |
|---|---|---|
| Constructive Criticism does not unlock after the gallery | Confirm six paintings were destroyed and the game is at least version 1.0.7 | Update, load the existing save, and inspect a painting again; the official fix applies to old saves. |
| The telescope puzzle will not activate in the Giant Lizard room | Check the game version | Version 1.0.3 fixed this softlock. Update, load the save, and re-enter that room; a new run is not required. |
| A notebook illustration is blank or Continue is unresponsive | Check for version 1.0.73 | Update before changing route logic. The patch fixed both symptoms without changing save compatibility. |
| The wrong Life Machine achievement appears | Read which sample is on the main plate | Return to the pre-machine fork and change only the main sample. |
| Empathy is still locked before the final island | Recheck Brain creature, white hyena, and Golem interactions | Use a pre-labyrinth save if the Golem has already left Babushka’s area. |
| An ending belongs to the wrong family | Compare the thief state, roster, and final action with your notes | Change one variable from the nearest labeled save; use the final scene and toast as readback. |
Before you delete the branch saves
Confirm all 70 names in Steam, not only the final percentage display. After the first completed ending, reload or begin a new game to test I’ll never go back?. The readable guide reports that some players may need to finish the second run before it appears, so preserve the first-run ending and thief forks until that achievement is visible; the available evidence does not prove that simply opening a new run always unlocks it.
Then verify that the four missables, every opposite-choice pair, all three Life Machine results, both heart outcomes, Always Alone, and the nine ending-related names are present. Only after that check should you discard the midgame forks.
Version and source boundary: AppID 931060, the July 23, 2026 release, OhNoo Studio, save-anywhere support, the official screenshot files, and the 70-achievement list were checked through the official Tormentum II Steam page. Current fixes and version 1.0.73 were checked against OhNoo Studio’s Steam announcements. Route choices were cross-checked with readable community guides and the verified walkthrough reference; uncertain ending-to-name mappings remain current-client tests instead of asserted formulas.
