A run in Static Dread: The Submarine usually starts to fail before the hull actually breaks. The route gets confirmed with too little integrity, a specialist spends the energy needed for the next locked compartment, or the shift advances while Pumps and the Technical Corridor are still unresolved. The safe approach is to treat the duty roster, sonar, and route planner as one system: open access first, identify what is ahead, then spend hull and torpedoes only on a route you can finish.
This is a spoiler-light first-clear route for the full launch build available on August 15, 2026. It follows the campaign through the late void navigation, but it does not prescribe dialogue outcomes, claim every ending, or turn one recorded branch into an achievement list. Story prompts can vary; the operational checkpoints below are the parts to protect.

Save before the first roster becomes irreversible
The captain-report console displays a confirmation when the report is received and saved. Make that console your reset point before any cluster of consequential actions: assigning the last points of crew energy, confirming a long movement line, firing a torpedo, or answering a major story choice. The main menu separates manual saves from autosaves, so check which one you are loading instead of assuming the newest-looking entry is your deliberate checkpoint.
Do not rely on a save inherited from the old demo. The developer described that demo as outdated, significantly different from the final build, and unable to carry its saves into the full game. If a task name, cost, or compartment state differs from this route, trust the requirement shown in the current client and build your next assignment from that requirement.
Your first clean cycle should be:
- Report to the captain and confirm that the save message appears.
- Run the required sonar contact through analysis rather than acting on its silhouette.
- Open the duty roster and inspect every available task, its cost, and its skill icons.
- Assign access and inspection work before optional recovery or optimization.
- Return to sonar only after you know how much hull and crew energy the next movement can consume.
The order matters because roster actions are not isolated bonuses. Unlocking a compartment exposes the inspection that advances the maintenance chain; inspection can reveal a key or status report; that result can then change what the Mainframe or captain will accept. Spending the right skill on a low-priority action can leave the required follow-up visible but impossible to staff.
Read the duty roster as a dependency board

Every task card tells you three things: how much energy it costs, which skill or skill combination qualifies, and what the task changes. Read those from right to left. The reward tells you whether the action is access, survival, recovery, or efficiency; the skill tells you who can do it; the cost tells you whether that person can still cover the next dependency.
The following cards are the most useful anchors on a first clear. Costs and labels are from the launch-build route checked for this guide; if a patch changes a card, the live card wins.
| Task | Cost and skill | Why it matters | Assignment rule |
|---|---|---|---|
| Unlock Pumps | 3 Energy, Mechanics | Opens access to other compartments and improves submarine speed. | Prioritize it early; access creates more progress than an isolated stat gain. |
| Inspect Engineering | 2 Energy, Engineering | Advances the engineering-side inspection chain. | Use a qualified crew member who is not your only answer to the next repair. |
| Inspect Technical Corridor | 1 Energy, Engineering | Checks the passage that connects later maintenance work. | Take it before the board stalls behind an apparently unrelated room. |
| Deploy Hull Repair Drone | 3 Energy, Engineering | Restores 5 Sub Integrity. | Repair before confirming a damaging route, not after arriving at critical integrity. |
| Distribute Rations | 1 Energy | Returns 1 Energy to every crew member. | Use it when the group-wide return unlocks at least one required assignment. |
| Recover in Officers’ Quarters | Recovery action | Returns 4 Energy to the selected crew member. | Target the specialist who gates the next two cards, not simply the lowest bar. |
| Unlock Tactical Quarters | 1 Energy, Mechanics | Opens torpedo and sonar-ping functions. | Complete it before a contact requires an active response. |
| Activate Communication Drone | 1 Energy, Engineering | Allows communication with vessels. | Unlock it before treating every submarine-shaped contact as hostile. |
| Load Starboard Torpedoes | 2 Energy, Mechanics | Loads 2 torpedoes. | Delay the spend until the route presents a verified obstruction. |
| Inspect Maintenance Stairway | 1 Energy, Science | Checks access toward the ICBM compartment and its controls. | Reserve Science energy as the biological-growth chain becomes active. |
Zack and Sharon both present useful Mechanics and Engineering coverage in the checked run, while the player character can cover Engineering, Mechanics, Cooking, and Science. That is a pool of options, not a fixed party solution. Energy, availability, and story state can change. Choose by the icons on the current task card, and keep one eligible person above the likely cost of the follow-up.
Two later upgrades are valuable only after the access chain is stable. Balance Pressure costs 2 Mechanics energy and improves speed and range. Reinforce Hull Integrity costs 2 Engineering energy and reduces movement damage. Optimize Energy Patterns costs 2 and requires Science plus Engineering; it adds energy from sonar actions. Those are excellent efficiency tools, but none should consume the specialist needed to unlock a room or stop an immediate hull failure.
Turn every sonar return into a decision

The sonar workflow has a reliable five-step rhythm:
- Sweep the field. Locate the return instead of drawing the route immediately.
- Match the signal. Align the waveforms or sliders until the sound tags register. A partial match is still an unidentified contact.
- Lock the profile. Do this only after the necessary tags have accumulated.
- Analyze the result. Let the Mainframe reconstruct the target and read its recommended action.
- Plan around the result. Open the route planner, compare the movement restriction with the available line, and confirm only when the green destination is reachable with a survivable hull cost.
Communication, ping, and torpedo controls can appear locked even though the sonar panel itself works. That is not a sonar puzzle failure. Return to the roster: Tactical Quarters unlocks the active tactical tools, while the Communication Drone enables contact with vessels. Clearing those dependencies is safer than guessing at a contact with the one action currently available.
Use the text recommendation, not the shape. The checked route includes an unknown submarine that avoids a torpedo and produces short pings associated with a non-hostile contact. It also includes large objects that should only be observed or avoided. A frightening outline is therefore not evidence that firing is correct.

On the planner, a valid line and a safe line are not always the same thing. Watch the displayed movement restriction, the remaining Sub Integrity, and any obstruction on the segment. If the line fits but the arrival would put the boat one collision away from failure, cancel, return to the roster, and use the repair drone or a damage-reduction upgrade first.
Clear the first shifts in dependency order
The early campaign becomes much more stable when each shift has a maintenance objective instead of a shopping list.
First operational window: create access
After the opening report and sonar instruction, open the roster and make Unlock Pumps and Inspect Engineering the first maintenance pair. Pumps is expensive, but it changes access and speed; Engineering establishes the other side of the chain. Avoid spending the same qualified crew on an optional upgrade if that would make either card impossible.
Once access work is assigned, run sonar and move only as far as the objective requires. The early goal is not to maximize distance. It is to reach the next report with enough integrity and enough specialist energy to inspect what you opened.
Second operational window: inspect and restore
Take Inspect Technical Corridor when it appears. If the previous movement damaged the boat, schedule Deploy Hull Repair Drone before another long confirmation. Rations are strongest here when their one-point group return changes several crew members from unusable to eligible. If only one specialist is blocking progress, the Officers’ Quarters recovery is the more focused answer.
Inspect Pumps after it becomes available. The checked campaign route can surface a Pumps Key and a pump-status result that must be carried back into the Mainframe/report flow. When the room has been inspected but the story does not advance, check the room result and report interaction before spending another shift on unrelated work.
Third operational window: unlock responses
By the time the route starts presenting contacts that require more than observation, complete Unlock Tactical Quarters and Activate Communication Drone. Inspect Pumps if it remains open. Load torpedoes only after Tactical access is established and a route-specific need is visible; the two loaded shots are a strategic reserve, not a general sonar shortcut.
This is also the point to inspect the current totals at the top of the roster. Low Hull Integrity and rising Biohazard are separate failure pressures. Repairing the hull does not clean growth, and biological progress does not make the next movement harmless. Keep both bars inside a recoverable range before accepting another story transition.
Treat the biohazard as a chain, not a firefight
When the biological growth spreads and starts sealing access around the reactor-side maintenance route, stop looking for a single combat interaction. The campaign frames this as a sequence of access, inspection, resource recovery, and cleansing. The stable checkpoints are:
- Preserve a Science-qualified assignment for Inspect Maintenance Stairway.
- Use that inspection to expose the route toward the ICBM compartment and relevant controls.
- Follow the active task text for the neutron-source step rather than trying to clear every visible growth immediately.
- Clean the required sections in the order the current board exposes them.
- Report the result before assuming a visually clearer corridor has completed the objective.
The important resource mistake is using Science and Engineering energy on efficiency cards just before this chain arrives. Optimize Energy Patterns can pay back over repeated sonar use, but the return is irrelevant if no qualified crew remains to inspect the stairway. If the biological objective is already visible, finish its access step first and optimize only with surplus energy.
Do not convert character encounters or medical prompts into a universal sequence. They can depend on earlier dialogue and branch state. Save at the captain-report console, read the active objective, and preserve the maintenance checkpoints even if your conversation differs from the route described here.
Spend torpedoes only on passages the Mainframe identifies
Loaded torpedoes solve specific obstructions. They are not a substitute for contact analysis. In the checked route, the Mainframe recommends firing at unstable rock pillars and collapsed urban structures when they block the plotted passage. A massive tentacle in the late void can also be identified as the obstruction that must be shot to open the way.
Other contacts deliberately punish the same instinct. A massive central obelisk is marked for observation rather than attack. A large marine organism carries a warning to avoid drawing its attention. If the reconstruction tells you to observe or avoid, route around it and keep the shot. If it recommends a torpedo, verify that the selected contact is the obstruction on your intended segment before firing.
Use this decision test:
- Still matching the signal? Do not act.
- Profile locked but analysis unfinished? Do not act.
- Analysis says observe, communicate, or avoid? Follow that verb.
- Analysis recommends a torpedo and the object blocks the route? Fire, then reopen the planner and confirm that the passage changed.
If a shot appears to accomplish nothing, reload the manual checkpoint rather than spending the second torpedo to test the same assumption. The likely error is target interpretation, not insufficient firepower.
Rebuild the boat before entering the void
The endgame transition is a poor place to carry unfinished maintenance. Before committing to the Temple/rift-side sequence, open the roster and clear the practical debt that can still be cleared:
- Repair Sub Integrity with the drone if the next movement lacks a collision margin.
- Use Reinforce Hull Integrity when movement damage, not immediate access, is the remaining threat.
- Balance Pressure if the displayed route is constrained by speed or range.
- Recover the specialist needed for the last mandatory task rather than distributing recovery without a target.
- Confirm that the biological objective required to open the passage is completed and reported.
- Keep at least one torpedo if the Mainframe has not yet identified the late obstruction.
A board with many completed optional cards can still be unprepared. Readiness means the required access chain is closed, the hull survives the plotted line, and the action named by the next analyzed contact is actually available.
Use the final sonar run to reach the eye
The last navigation sequence changes the scenery but not the sonar logic. Continue to sweep, match, lock, analyze, and plan. Precision matters more here because a dramatic object can be either the route blocker or a distraction.
- Analyze the massive tentacle. When the Mainframe identifies it as the obstruction and recommends a torpedo, use the reserved shot.
- Reopen the route planner after firing; do not confirm the old line from memory.
- Analyze the large marine organism. Follow the warning not to draw its attention and plot a line that avoids provoking it.
- Continue toward the gigantic ocular structure—the eye—using the newly opened passage.
- Save before the next story interaction if the captain-report station is available. The dialogue outcome belongs to your branch; this route stops at the reliable navigation checkpoint.
If the eye remains unreachable, the problem is usually one step earlier: the tentacle was observed but not cleared, the planner was not refreshed after the shot, or the route line intersects the organism that should be avoided. Recheck those three states before searching the roster for a nonexistent final upgrade.
Diagnose a stalled board from the missing dependency
| What you see | Likely missing state | What to check next |
|---|---|---|
| A compartment inspection is visible but no crew can take it. | The qualified specialist lacks energy. | Use targeted recovery or rations; cancel an optional assignment if it has not resolved. |
| Torpedo, ping, or communication is locked on sonar. | The corresponding Tactical Quarters or Communication Drone task is incomplete. | Return to the roster and finish the access card. |
| Pumps were inspected but the campaign does not move. | The key/status result has not been submitted. | Check the Pumps result, Mainframe interaction, and captain report. |
| The planner accepts a line but the boat dies during movement. | The route is valid but the hull budget is not. | Repair, reinforce, shorten the line, or clear the analyzed obstruction first. |
| Biohazard remains after clearing visible growth. | The maintenance-stairway, neutron-source, cleansing, or report step is incomplete. | Follow the active task text and finish the chain rather than cleaning rooms at random. |
| A late contact does not respond as expected. | The profile was not fully analyzed, or the wrong action was used. | Reload the pre-contact manual save and follow the Mainframe verb exactly. |
Launch-build boundary and official source
This route was checked against a full-game playthrough and the launch metadata for Steam App 4042160. The developer released a small story-event frequency hotfix on August 15, 2026 and announced more quality-of-life fixes, so exact balance and task presentation may change. Use the task cost, skill icons, route restriction, and recommendation shown in your current client whenever they differ from this page.
The supplied community achievement page is removed/incompatible and explicitly incomplete, so it was not used to invent achievement triggers. The game currently lists 45 Steam achievements, but a first-clear route cannot establish all of their branch conditions. For platform features, current release status, and official screenshots, see the official Steam store page.
The durable rule is operational: report before committing, reserve energy for the next dependency, analyze before acting, and confirm a route only after the hull can pay for it. That chain carries the same logic from the first pump-room assignment to the passage in front of the eye.
