Do not make Simcalibur the first Swordsmanship objective. The stone checks a late skill gate and a Noble Career favor state; repeated failed pulls can carry a career penalty. Start with a Wooden Sword, build the skill on a practice dummy, learn which duel stakes are currently unlocked, and approach the stone only after the prophecy requirements are visible in your save.

This guide covers the level-10 Swordsmanship system in Royalty & Legacy. Research was frozen on August 15, 2026; the last verified official update was EA’s July 21 build, numbered 1.126.58.1030 on PC. If a later patch moves an unlock, the live skill panel, duel menu, prophecy, and collection screen take priority.
Get a first sword without searching the whole world
The reliable early purchase is the Blacksmith Workshop in Verdemar. Travel to Ye Olde Voyager, then look beside the bar for the tan workshop with a light red roof, anvil signs, swords displayed outside, practice dummies, and a furnace. From the bar area, the workshop courtyard is reached by the nearby ramp or stairs.
Open the workshop interaction menu. The crafting command is Ask Blacksmith to Craft a Sword. A Wooden Sword has no Swordsmanship gate. The Blacksmith is usually a cleaner first stop than wandering among unmarked buildings, and later stock opens as the skill rises. A Wooden Sword can also come from a practice dummy or the Dambele market, so a missing shop interaction does not have to stop the run.
Before paying, inspect the current material and Simoleon requirements. The reviewed stock used skill gates at level 2 for the Classic Longsword and level 5 for the Bellacorde Rapier, Dambele Saber, and Verdemar Falcata. Those shop gates are more useful as milestones than as reasons to wait: buy the starter, train, then return when the next group unlocks.
Use training methods for different jobs
- Practice dummy: the safest repeatable option when the Sim needs pure skill progress and no opponent is available. Keep space around the dummy so routing failures are obvious.
- Duels: combine skill gain with Fun and a social or career objective. Use low-stakes sparring while learning; do not attach a promotion, relationship, or Dynasty leadership outcome to an undertrained Sim.
- Skill books: useful when the Sim cannot reach a dummy or opponent. The reviewed set contains three Swordsmanship volumes and stops short of level 10, so finish mastery through active practice.
A Focused mood helps the training plan, but the important check is the rate shown by the skill bar. If progress stops, verify that the Sim is an eligible age, the object is usable, and the selected interaction actually trains Swordsmanship rather than performing a decorative or career-only animation.
Unlock stakes gradually instead of treating every duel alike
Early duels are for practice. As the skill rises, the current menu can add stakes involving Simoleons, romance, marriage permission, Dynasty headship, noble rivalry, or a career promotion. These are different player problems with different failure costs.
| Stake | What must be protected | Go signal |
|---|---|---|
| Fun or practice | Only time and needs | Use it to test the opponent and animations |
| Simoleons | Household funds | The wager is affordable even if the duel fails |
| Love or marriage permission | Relationships and the intended story branch | Save first and confirm the exact target named by the interaction |
| Dynasty headship | Heir, values, perks, and family control | The household is ready for a leadership change, not just a win |
| Noble rivalry or promotion | Career standing | Performance tasks are complete and the opponent is the correct career target |
If the desired stake is absent, do not challenge through a similarly named interaction. Check the Swordsmanship level, relationship context, Dynasty roles, and Noble Career state. The menu is a better unlock detector than an old fixed level table.
Enter a tournament with a three-round plan
Every Ondarion neighborhood has a gazebo that can host a Swordsmanship Tournament. The official description identifies these as goaled events. The reviewed event structure uses tiered tournaments with three rounds, so arrive with enough time and stable needs rather than beginning after a full workday.
- Save before registration, especially if another career or Dynasty outcome matters that day.
- Enter Focused and fill hunger, energy, and bladder before the first round.
- Use the lowest available tier as a live check of opponent difficulty and event goals.
- Read each round’s target; a win against the wrong Sim does not necessarily advance a goaled event.
- After the results screen, check household inventory and the Swords of Ondarion collection. A reward can be stored without being obvious on the active Sim.
Tournaments can award Simoleons and rare swords, but they are not the only collection route. Stop repeating an event when the missing sword comes from a career rank, a prophecy, a blessing, or a pirate chest.
Route the 11 swords by source, not by rarity
The collection is easier when divided into deterministic purchases, progression rewards, and random or world sources. The reviewed collection contains 11 swords and awards a Blacksmith Guild plaque to household inventory when completed.
| Sword | Primary route | Checkpoint |
|---|---|---|
| Wooden Sword | Practice dummy, Blacksmith, or Dambele market | No skill gate at the Blacksmith |
| Classic Longsword | Blacksmith | Reviewed gate: Swordsmanship 2 plus the displayed material/cost |
| Bellacorde Rapier | Blacksmith | Reviewed gate: Swordsmanship 5 |
| Dambele Saber | Blacksmith | Reviewed gate: Swordsmanship 5 |
| Verdemar Falcata | Blacksmith or Pirate Treasure Chest | Use the shop route first when the level-5 stock is available |
| Royal Golden Sword | Noble Career reward | Reach career rank 3 and check inventory |
| Sentry of the Sea Falcata | Unbound Wealth blessing or Pirate Treasure Chest | Stop checking the Blacksmith; this is a world-source sword |
| The Power of Many Sabre | Unbound Wealth blessing or Pirate Treasure Chest | Track chest results so duplicates do not look like no progress |
| Thorn of Roses Rapier | Unbound Wealth blessing or Pirate Treasure Chest | Check the collection panel after each reward |
| Vorpal Blade | Unbound Wealth blessing or Pirate Treasure Chest | Keep this in the random/world-source lane |
| Simcalibur | Sword in the stone at Verdemar | Read the prophecy, reach Swordsmanship 8, and become Champion of the People |
Because several rare swords share more than one source, the table is a coverage plan rather than a promised drop order. Use the household collection screen to name the exact missing entry, then farm only a source that can still produce it.
Pull Simcalibur only after both gates are visible
The stone stands in Verdemar’s main square near the beach, in front of Ye Olde Voyager. Examine it and read The Legend of Simcalibur before attempting the pull. The reviewed prophecy route requires Swordsmanship level 8 and Champion of the People, the high Commoner-favor state in the Noble Career.
Meet both conditions on the same Sim. A level-8 family member cannot borrow another Sim’s favor, and a popular noble cannot substitute a different combat skill. Reopen the Skill and Career panels immediately before the attempt. If either label differs in the current client, follow the live prophecy text rather than forcing repeated pulls.
Repeated unworthy attempts can demote the noble in the reviewed build. That makes “try until it works” the wrong recovery method. Return to duties and Noble Ventures, raise Commoner favor to the named state, and train the last skill levels first. The Noble Career guide explains how to keep the favor path separate from the promotion bar.
After a successful pull, Simcalibur can be carried, displayed, used in duels, or returned to the stone. Returning it matters when another Sim must become the owner. If the collection does not update, place the sword in the active household inventory, reopen the collection panel, and confirm that the item is the functional sword rather than a decorative Build/Buy object.
Repair a missing unlock before adding cheats
- Blacksmith stock is short: verify the active Sim’s skill level and the material requirement shown in the purchase panel.
- Duel stake is missing: check skill, relationship triangle, Dynasty role, and career context; the opponent may be invalid.
- Tournament does not advance: use the named gazebo event and defeat the round’s assigned opponent.
- Collection remains at 10/11: compare names, not icons, and inspect household inventory for an unregistered reward.
- Simcalibur refuses the Sim: stop attempting, then verify both Swordsmanship 8 and Champion of the People on that Sim.
A Dynasty leadership duel can change much more than the combat result. Before using a sword to settle succession, review the Dynasty and Prestige guide and confirm the intended Head, heir, values, and alliances.
