Do not begin Rust’s rare multiplayer or Deep Sea achievements until a cheap achievement proves that the server can trigger them. The current Steam list has 102 achievements, but server flags, tutorial eligibility, DLC gestures, map generation, and event timing can make a valid-looking action produce nothing. A two-minute trigger test saves hours of repeating a run on the wrong server.

This roadmap was checked against Steam’s live 102-achievement page, an achievement guide updated in July 2026, and Facepunch’s Naval and May 2026 update material. It is not a promise that every community server reports progress identically. Use Steam’s unlocked timestamp, the current server tags, and the in-game objective state as the authority after each test.
Prove the server before committing a session
Many early achievements originated as tutorial checks. The reviewed current guide reports that achievement-compatible play depends on server settings and recommends official servers for the tutorial route. Server owners can expose an official flag, but a player cannot repair an incompatible public server from the client.
Run this gate:
- Join a Facepunch Official server or another server that explicitly supports Steam achievements.
- Check the top-left objective area. For the tutorial batch, use a server with the Tutorial tag and make sure the tutorial can be started from Options.
- Perform one cheap locked action such as visiting a road, collecting the named wood amount, or placing an early crafted object.
- Wait for Steam to report the unlock, then confirm it on the live achievement list.
If the cheap test does not unlock, stop. Verify that the achievement was not already earned, reconnect once, try a known Official server, and repeat a different low-cost action. Do not use a six-player event, Cargo Ship, or Deep Sea run as the first diagnostic.
Turn 102 entries into five sessions
| Session | Main work | Reason to keep it separate |
|---|---|---|
| Tutorial Island | Fresh Graduate, Pew Pew, early gathering and construction checks | The island has a one-way exit and a hidden-item order risk |
| Solo wipe foundation | Resources, basic crafts, base pieces, research, horse, food, hydration | These share one safe progression loop and need no event timer |
| Monuments and vehicles | Cargo Ship, Oil Rig, Excavator, rail tunnels, Junkyard, Arctic Research Base | Map generation, cards, fuel, and high-risk travel should be planned together |
| Group and DLC night | Six-player vehicles, instruments, water props, Voice Props, poker, CCTV | Player count and item ownership are the true gates |
| Deep Sea event | Modular boat, Floating City, Ghost Ship, Tropical Islands, PT boat, swimming | These depend on a timed offshore window and a return-capable vessel |
Within each session, track only locked achievements. Steam’s page is the source of truth; guide lists can retain old notes after a trigger changes. Mark an achievement complete only after Steam records it, not when the animation appears in game.
Clear Tutorial Island without locking the hidden Revolver
Use Options to reset or start the tutorial, then select a Tutorial-tagged Facepunch Official server. The tutorial route teaches the same chain that powers many early achievements:
- Gather wood and stone; craft the Stone Hatchet and Stone Pickaxe.
- Use the supplied wood to build foundations, walls, a doorway, and a roof.
- Gather cloth; craft and place a Sleeping Bag, Wooden Door, Key Lock, and Tool Cupboard.
- Craft a Hammer, upgrade the structure to wood, and fund 24 hours of upkeep.
- Craft a spear; kill chickens, harvest meat, cook it on a Camp Fire, and eat.
- Make clothing, bandages, a bow, and arrows; use a bandage and complete the animal fight.
- Make Low Grade Fuel and a Furnace, mine Metal Ore, break barrels, and smelt the required Metal Fragments.
- Craft and place a Workbench, then prepare the Kayak and Paddle objective.
Pew Pew is the route’s missable checkpoint. The current guide places the hidden Revolver behind the lighthouse: go around the rear through the broken fence, turn back toward the structure, crouch beneath the boards on the crates, and open the hidden box. Search after the barrel objective but before using the kayak.
Do not enter the kayak until the hidden Revolver and every remaining island objective have registered. The guide warns that boarding too early can soft-lock the tutorial path. Place the kayak in the ocean only when the checklist is clear, then paddle away to finish Fresh Graduate.
If Fresh Graduate does not unlock, do not immediately replay the entire island. Confirm the server tag, Steam connection, and whether the final objective completed in the top-left tracker. A route completion animation without a Steam timestamp is a failed trigger that needs a new compatible attempt.
Batch the solo foundation achievements in one base
A compact starter base can clear most crafting and placement pairs without throwing items on the beach. Use the Q crafting menu and search the exact live item names. Recipe amounts can change, so this roadmap groups actions rather than freezing every cost.
Complete each craft and placement as a pair:
- Camp Fire;
- Sleeping Bag;
- Building Plan, three-foundation base, Hammer, and an upgraded building block;
- Wooden Box;
- Wooden Door and Lock, including the separate action to lock it;
- Furnace;
- Tool Cupboard with upkeep material;
- Workbench;
- Research Table followed by researching one eligible item.
After each placement, step out of the menu and wait for the trigger. If one item fails, note the exact missing achievement and continue with cheap work. Recrafting the entire base hides which action is not registering.
Gathering achievements can be layered over the same run: wood, cloth, stone, Metal Ore, Low Grade Fuel, barrels, and scrap. Empty food cans should be recycled for Save the Planet; the reviewed guide flags that achievement as delayed or inconsistent, so verify the Steam timestamp before collecting more cans.
Add the remaining low-risk actions while traveling:
- visit a road;
- equip three clothing pieces;
- kill and skin an animal;
- ride a horse for the required distance;
- fill the food bar and hydration bar;
- research an unknown item at a Research Table.
Use the live achievement description to distinguish “craft,” “place,” and “equip.” Crafting a locked item into inventory does not satisfy a placement trigger, and placing a lock does not complete the separate lock interaction.
Audit the generated map before monument work
Several achievements require a monument, vehicle, or event that may not be active when the session starts. Open the map and make a dependency list before gearing:
- I’m the Captain now: Cargo Ship must be active, and the route ends at its bridge.
- On The Deck: a Minicopter must land on an Oil Rig helipad.
- Something of a scientist myself: five scientist kills; use a monument the current group can exit, not the most difficult one available.
- Arctic Speed: the generated map needs Arctic Research Base and the run needs the current access method for its snowmobile.
- Terror in the Deep: an Underwater Lab and a submarine approach are required; the driver must complete the surface-to-lab trip.
- Heavy Industry: bring Diesel Fuel to Giant Excavator and activate the machine.
- On Track: kill Tunnel Dwellers while the work cart is moving, so fuel and a driver matter as much as ammunition.
- Waste Not, Want Not: use the Junkyard magnet crane to feed the required vehicles into its recycler.
Do not carry all cards and rare supplies on the first scouting visit. Confirm the monument exists, locate the entry and exit, place an external recovery bag where allowed, then return with the exact kit.
For event achievements, define the trigger before the event arrives. Reaching Cargo Ship is not the same as reaching its bridge; touching an Oil Rig is not the same as landing on its helipad. The action named by Steam is the finish line.
Reserve six players before the multiplayer batch
The largest coordination gate is six players total:
- Battle Bus: one driver plus five passengers in a modular car.
- Rust Air: one pilot plus five passengers in a Scrap Transport Helicopter.
Schedule those two first while the full group is present. Verify seats, fuel, repairs, and an open launch area before inviting everyone. One missing seat turns six organized players into another rebuild.
Then reduce the group:
- Getting the band together: a four-person team with an instrument equipped on every member.
- Cool Kids Club: at least four teammates mounted on Boogie Boards or Inner Tubes.
- Party Boat: three players dancing at the bow of Cargo Ship.
- Smooth Sailing: two players travel the required distance in one Kayak.
- High Roller: at least one opponent is needed for poker wins at Bandit Camp.
- Friendly Neighbour: wave at five player targets and confirm each increment rather than assuming the gesture counted.
For any kill achievement involving another player, verify whether teammates are valid targets in the current build before staging the attempt. Do not infer that a friendly-fire setup counts because a different DLC achievement allowed team members.
Resolve DLC ownership before crafting props
The reviewed achievement guide records three different ownership boundaries:
- Instruments Pack
- A helper who owns the pack can craft the DLC instruments for other players. The Acoustic Guitar is a world item, so include it when preparing Musical Maestro.
- Sunburn Pack
- A helper can provide crafted cameras, water weapons, pools, tubes, and boards. Several triggers depend on timing or equipment state rather than ownership.
- Voice Props Pack
- The dance gestures are the important ownership gate. Like Nobody’s Watching and Party Boat require the relevant dancers to have access to those gestures.
Check the current Steam description and in-game crafting permissions before buying anything. A guide’s “helper can craft it” note does not guarantee that a later patch kept every ownership rule.
Prepare items before the group arrives. Instruments that must be placed need floor space. Water-gun achievements need a low-health target, water, and the exact pressure condition. Boom Box achievements need power, the correct audio source, and enough time for the trigger. Testing each device alone prevents one missing cable or cassette from wasting the coordination window.
Use state changes to trigger the fragile DLC entries
Several achievements observe a transition, not a static condition:
- For Sunglasses at Night, equip the sunglasses after night begins rather than wearing them through sunset.
- For Paparazzi, use a fresh camera and photograph another player; verify immediately before taking a second shot.
- For Like Nobody’s Watching, dance on an active Disco Floor near a playing Boom Box and continue through a track change because the reviewed guide reports a new-song check.
- For On the Record, begin recording first, then have another player speak near the cassette device.
- For I should buy this Soundtrack, select the Rust soundtrack rather than a radio stream and remain in range for the named duration.
- For Full Collection, distinguish the radio-stream requirement from the soundtrack requirement while floating and playing an instrument.
After every fragile trigger, stop and check Steam. Repeating ten transitions without readback creates no evidence about which one failed.
Build the Deep Sea achievement run around the boat
The Deep Sea batch starts with Shipshape, which requires a first player-built boat. At Workbench Level 2, follow the current tech tree to the Steering Wheel, propulsion, Boat Building Plan, and Boat Building Station. Build a minimal balanced hull, mount it, and confirm the achievement before loading the offshore kit.
Read the map edge and event timer. New Horizons triggers on entering the Deep Sea, but entry without return fuel is not success. Carry healing, food, ammunition, a repair plan, and enough reserve to leave before the event closes.
Route the location achievements while the region is open:
- Safe Harbor: reach a Floating City safe zone and use it as the navigation reset point.
- Treasure ahoy! open the required containers on Tropical Islands; count only Steam-confirmed progress.
- Need more fibre: collect and eat the ten coconuts while visiting islands.
- Hostile Waters: locate the Ghost Ship that has a locked crate, clear the approach, and begin the hack.
- Oceans are now battlefields: register a cannon strike against another vessel; prepare a safe test target if the server permits.
- Stolen Goods: clear and take a PT boat, then use its mounted weapon for the required player kill.
- Dude, where’s my boat? swim the required distance in the Deep Sea only after arranging pickup or a safe return.
Swim with the fishes needs another player: wear the prisoner hood, be handcuffed, and jump from a plank. Place and test the plank before entering the event, and keep the rescuer ready; completing a joke trigger is not worth losing the boat.
The current guide reports inconsistent Deep Sea achievement behavior even on servers that appeared official. Treat the first inexpensive Deep Sea trigger as another compatibility test. If New Horizons or Safe Harbor fails, do not risk the PT boat or Ghost Ship work until a different compatible server records progress.
Repair missing unlocks with a single-variable retest
- Nothing unlocks: change to an achievement-compatible Official server and repeat one cheap action.
- Tutorial item is missing: verify the Tutorial tag and search for the Revolver before entering the kayak.
- Craft achievement is missing: craft a new item in the correct workbench range; a looted or handed-over item does not prove the crafting trigger.
- Placement achievement is missing: place a newly crafted object on valid terrain and wait outside the menu.
- Multiplayer trigger is missing: recount total players, seats, team membership, equipped items, and who must be the driver or pilot.
- DLC trigger is missing: distinguish item ownership from gesture ownership and recreate the required state change.
- Monument trigger is missing: reach the named sub-location, such as Cargo Ship bridge or Oil Rig helipad, rather than the general monument.
- Deep Sea trigger is missing: test a low-cost entry on another compatible server before repeating the high-risk event.
Keep a simple ledger with achievement name, server, action, result, and Steam timestamp. The goal is not to perform 102 plausible actions; it is to produce 102 verified unlocks. When a trigger fails, the ledger shows the last confirmed condition and lets the next attempt change only one variable.
