Corsair Cove Captains Guide: Unlock All 14 and Match Their Roles

Teach and other selectable Captains shown in the Corsair Cove roster interface

The Captain roster is not a linear collection screen. Four Captains are available immediately, four are rewards for the first Principle quests, and the remaining six depend on regional Ambitions, map selection, or a decision that can close one recruitment path. The practical goal is to know which recruit the current map permits and what fleet problem that Captain actually solves.

Captain selection changes a ship’s statistics and adds a unique event action; it should be revisited before difficult objectives.

The roster and routes below use an August 15, 2026 evidence cutoff and official build 1.1.3.242237 (Patch #3). That update fixed Chen’s rewards being displayed twice but did not announce a new unlock condition. Live Ambition text remains the final authority if a later build changes a region or reward.

Separate availability from combat value

A Captain contributes a perk and a purple event action. Some perks fill a ship’s weak statistic; others increase a raid resource or change Dice. That makes “best Captain” the wrong collection question. First decide whether the next job is hull damage, Crew damage, movement, survival, Dice control, or loot. Then choose among Captains the current save has actually unlocked.

Captain Availability Primary role Action use or warning
Teach Starting roster Health and Gun Damage Easy as Murder adds a die next turn
Kanja Starting roster Supplies and Speed All or Nothing adds three Dice but can collapse a weak result to one
Scarlet Starting roster Health and Boarding Damage Rise Up, Mateys adds a die next turn
Honorata Starting roster Speed and Manoeuvrability No Risk, No Fun restores Supplies but doubles Crew damage
Enrique First Empire quest Tobacco and Lenses raids His loot perk reduces Speed and Manoeuvrability
Raven First Wealth quest Coin rewards and Manoeuvrability Ruthless Calculations gives both sides extra Dice
Timothy First Notoriety quest Dice opposition Burning Phoenix adds Dice at a Crew cost
Charlie First Seafaring quest Speed and Manoeuvrability Tide Turner adds one player die and removes one opponent die next turn
Jonah Whalesong Wake or Ship Graveyard route Armour plus Wine and Lenses Old Gods’ Favour adds two Dice next turn
Akua Wildfire Isles Health and Silver Witch’s Gambit forces opponent ones now and player sixes next turn
Chen Calico Lagoon or Devil’s Basin route Speed and Grain Black Swan Dance makes the next action free if its condition holds
Audenzia Fairwinds Passage decision route Boarding Damage and Coin Assassin’s Gambit copies the opponent’s Dice into the next player pool
Amara Story/Skull Rock branch or Blackwater Gun Damage and Crew protection Machado Manoeuvre redirects Crew damage to Health
Rupert Ship Graveyard General Ambition Extreme Dice control with a unique ship His Dice always resolve as one or six

Percentages and exact action costs are visible on the live Captain card. This route emphasizes decisions that change unlockability or mission fit rather than presenting one launch-week number as permanent.

Use the starting four as a stat repair kit

Teach, Kanja, Scarlet, and Honorata require no recruitment quest. They cover the four most common early shortages:

  • Assign Teach when a Destroyer or mixed hull needs more Gun Damage and Health.
  • Assign Kanja when a chase or long multi-stage event risks exhausting Supplies.
  • Assign Scarlet when the objective reduces enemy Crew or the Reaver needs more survival margin.
  • Assign Honorata for Speed and Manoeuvrability, but plan her supply action around its doubled Crew-damage risk.

These are not permanent ship pairings. Captains can be swapped at the home Pier, so the right starting Captain is the one that covers the next event card. The Seven Seas combat guide explains how to distinguish a stat failure from a Dice-heavy objective.

Recruit the four first-quest Captains without scattering Principles

Each first Principle quest rewards one Captain and 20 Cohesion. Complete the route whose fleet already meets the highlighted statistics; unlocking all four immediately is less important than avoiding four partially supported ship lines.

Enrique — A Noose for Enrique

The Empire quest recommends a Tier 2 Destroyer profile with strong Gun Damage and Armour. Its jobs are reducing enemy Health to zero, covering 3,600m, and defending for three turns. Enrique’s perk doubles Tobacco and Lenses gains but cuts Speed and Manoeuvrability. Swap him onto a finished raid route, then remove him before a movement event that the penalty would sabotage.

Raven — Raven in the Jungle

The Wealth route favors a Tier 2 Reaver profile. Close 3,000m, reduce opponent statistics during the performance phase, and gather 20 Hints. Raven improves Coin rewards and Manoeuvrability, making him an economy Captain who still helps some movement checks. His action empowers both Dice pools; use it only when the extra player roll advances a decisive next turn.

Timothy — Phoenix on the Run

The Notoriety route asks for a Prowler-style Manoeuvrability profile: Sneak 47m, gather 20 Charts, then move 3,800m away from the threat. Timothy cancels matching opponent Dice through his perk. Burning Phoenix can create a large next-turn pool but damages Crew according to the roll, so do not press it when the ship is already close to losing statistics.

Charlie — Charting with Charlie

The Seafaring quest wants Speed and Manoeuvrability: gather 20 Charts, close 3,600m, then outrun the threat. The final distance can respond to opponent statistics, so reducing those statistics in the preceding phase can shorten the escape. Charlie fills the same passive movement lane as Honorata but uses her action to alter the next Dice pools rather than refill Supplies.

Follow Jonah’s map-specific sea route

On most maps, Jonah’s chain begins in Whalesong Wake: enter Fate’s Fool, pay the sacrifice requested by The Summoning, then clear The Old Gods of the Sea. The sacrifice can be 20 Crew, 200 Wine, or 200 Coin. Pick the resource the settlement can replace without collapsing the next mission.

The final encounter is an Armour-heavy travel and survival check: navigate 6,800m, gain 10,200m, and survive three turns. A fast Destroyer+ can be safer than a Hunter when the Hunter meets Speed but cannot mitigate the incoming damage.

On Ship Graveyard, Jonah instead appears during the exclusive From the Wreckage General Ambition. Do not wait for the normal Walesong sequence on that map.

Recruit Akua through questing or a building proof

Akua is found in the Wildfire Isles. The normal route is the Empire Ambition The Stolen Relic, which can be handled by an appropriately prepared Tier 2 or Tier 3 Destroyer. An alternate immediate route becomes available when the settlement has both Shrine of the Sea and Voodoo Shack, tying her recruitment to Seafaring Tier 2 and Notoriety Tier 4 construction.

Use the building route only if those structures already serve the save. Spending Compass points in two Principles solely to skip an achievable Ambition can delay more important hull or production unlocks. Akua is strongest when Silver is the raid target or when Witch’s Gambit can set up a vital next-turn roll.

Win Chen’s route, including the insult sequence

On Skull Rock and Ship Graveyard, Chen’s Challenge of the Black Swan Ambition is found in Calico Lagoon. Its two combat legs are Race for Treasure and The Seafaring Contest, both favoring a high-Manoeuvrability Prowler profile. The final Brains over Brawn encounter is a dialogue battle rather than combat.

Select these answers in order:

  1. “Why, do you need lessons?”
  2. “All we see is an ugly duckling!”
  3. “That’s because you’ve been hiding in the crow’s nest!”

On Devil’s Basin, Chen belongs to the Tales of Red Sails General Ambition instead. Use the map’s Journal route rather than searching Calico Lagoon for a chain the map does not host. Patch #3 corrected Chen rewards being displayed twice; do not treat a duplicate display from an older build as two recruitment payouts.

Protect Audenzia’s recruitment choice

Audenzia’s Fairwinds Passage Ambition begins with An Audience with Audenzia. The material choice arrives at A Strange Offer:

  • Betraying Audenzia opens the Inner Circle vendor but closes recruitment through this quest chain.
  • Rejecting the offer continues through Audenzia’s Target, The Count, Breaking the Circle, and A Daring, if Dirty Deed, ending with Audenzia.

The combat legs favor a Destroyer that can also produce Boarding Damage and movement. Save before A Strange Offer if the long-term choice is not settled. A betrayed route may receive a late-game Battle for a Betrayed Soul opportunity near Fort Vandekroon, but that is a fallback tied to late availability, not a reason to promise that the early betrayal is consequence-free.

Audenzia is a strong Coin raider because her perk combines Boarding Damage with a large Coin bonus. That does not make her the automatic Captain for a chase or Armour check.

Make Amara recruitable before the rescue

Story Mode on Skull Rock has a specific missable sequence. Capture Amara during Tides of Fate Chapter 4, interact with her cage outside Skull Rock, and offer her a place among the pirates. After a third Principle quest and the story timer, defeat Machado’s Spy Ship. Amara joins only if that earlier conversation was completed.

The Tides of Fate route places the save checkpoint immediately before this branch. Winning the Spy Ship encounter cannot reconstruct a skipped offer.

On maps that use the Blackwater recruitment path, begin The Disgraced Huntress. The direct option costs 500 Coin; the alternate Best Served Cold route recruits Amara and grants an Empire point. Choose between time and Coin after checking the settlement, not from a permanent ranking.

Reserve Rupert for the Ship Graveyard campaign

Rupert “Reaper” Killigrew is not a normal Skull Rock roster target. He is recruited through From the Wreckage, a General Ambition exclusive to Ship Graveyard in Uncharted Mode. The chain escalates from Tier 2 movement and Hints checks through rituals, Tier 4 mixed combat, three Tier 5 branches, and the Tier 6 A Tale of Two Wrecks finale.

The route includes material and sacrifice gates such as 300 Rope and 300 Coin for Altar of the Seas, plus choices involving Crew, Cohesion, or Blubber. Later rites mix statistic reduction, Health and Crew thresholds, survival, long movement, Treasure, and text answers. Keep the clues from prior events; guessing dialogue spends Supplies.

Finishing the chain recruits Rupert and unlocks his unique Tier 6+ flagship, The Devil’s Due, which requires a Deep-Water Pier. His one-or-six Dice rule is powerful, but the Captain and ship are map-limited late rewards, not an answer for a Story Mode player who cannot see the Ambition.

Audit a missing Captain before repeating events

Missing recruit First readback Likely boundary
Enrique, Raven, Timothy, or Charlie First quest in the matching Principle Generic events and Deeds do not award the Captain
Jonah Current map and General Ambition list Ship Graveyard moves him into From the Wreckage
Akua Wildfire Isles access or both required buildings The alternative is a construction gate, not a free dialogue
Chen Map-specific Ambition and Brains over Brawn answers Devil’s Basin uses a different route
Audenzia A Strange Offer choice The vendor betrayal closes the normal recruitment chain
Amara Prison conversation or Blackwater route Story Mode requires the offer before the Spy Ship rescue
Rupert Ship Graveyard, Uncharted Mode, From the Wreckage He is unavailable through the normal Skull Rock story

The useful roster is not always the largest one. It is the set of Captains whose perks and actions can be assigned to the fleet’s actual objectives without sacrificing a map choice the player intended to keep.

Steam identifies Corsair Cove as App 1368140 and credits Limbic Entertainment for development and Hooded Horse for publishing. Check the official store record, then use its official news hub for later Captain or event changes. The 14-Captain roster, Ambition routes, choice locks, and objective checks were reconciled from readable references updated through August 14, 2026. Duplicate pages, the removed/incompatible Steam guide, and a derivative walkthrough were not used to invent missing route steps.
