Dune: Awakening’s material ladder is geographical. When a recipe is blocked, the answer is usually not to farm the current zone longer; it is to prove the next Cutteray, refinery, region, or component source. This route follows the stable progression from Copper to Plastanium while avoiding launch-era claims that the Deep Desert is always PvP. In the current game, you choose a PvE or PvP Deep Desert instance, with the PvP choice offering higher yield.
Read every recipe as four separate supply problems
Before leaving base, split the missing ingredients into:
- Mined raw material: Copper, Iron, Carbon, Aluminum, Jasmium, Titanium, Basalt, Erythrite, or another visible node.
- Processed material: ingots, Steel, Duraluminum, Plastanium, Cobalt Paste, Silicone Blocks, or Stravidium Fiber.
- Location component: machinery, servoks, capacitors, pumps, regulators, plates, fibers, compressors, or coolers from a ruin, wreck, station, camp, or vendor.
- Permission or schematic: Research unlock, Trial reward, Imperial Permit, Unique schematic, or specialization gate.
Having the ore does not solve the processed tier, and finding a schematic does not supply its components. This separation prevents the common failure of returning from a long mining run with more of the one ingredient that was never blocking fabrication.
Survey before choosing a farming circuit
A region survey turns the map into the route planner. Climb high enough for the Survey Probe Launcher to accept the shot, reveal the region, then hover over nodes and location types. The map shows resource presence and relative abundance; it does not guarantee that another player has not just cleared the site.
For ore, carry the best Cutteray your current tier can replace. A weak Cutteray may fail to cut the node or return less material. For wrecks and testing stations, reserve inventory for components and schematic chests rather than filling every slot with common ore on the way in.
Use this region-to-material ladder
| Progress tier | Primary region/source | Conversion | What proves readiness |
|---|---|---|---|
| Copper | Hagga Basin South | Copper Ore → Copper Ingot | Cutteray, Small Ore Refinery, basic water and storage |
| Iron | Eastern and Western Vermillius Gap | Iron Ore → Iron Ingot | Iron-capable Cutteray, shield, Sandbike, surveyed safe rocks |
| Steel | Carbon in Jabal Eifrit/Hagga Rift plus Iron | Iron Ingot + Carbon Ore + Water → Steel Ingot | Cutteray Mk2 class, dependable water, powered specialized fabricators |
| Aluminum | Shield Wall, O’odham, and northern routes | Aluminum Ore → Aluminum Ingot | Radiation preparation, stronger Cutteray, component route |
| Duraluminum | Jasmium in irradiated Sheol plus Aluminum | Aluminum Ingot + Jasmium Crystal + Water → Duraluminum | Medium refinery, radiation suit/pills, Ornithopter extraction plan |
| Plastanium | Titanium and Stravidium in the Deep Desert | Titanium Ore + processed Stravidium Fiber + Water → Plastanium | Chosen PvE/PvP instance, Deep Desert survey kit, return capacity, Tier 6 stations |
Recipe quantities and workstation labels can change with balance updates. Read the live Fabricator and refinery panel before committing a cargo run; the source and dependency route matter more than a frozen launch-day number.
Copper should buy mobility, not a warehouse of starter gear
Copper nodes in Hagga Basin South are dark rock with blue veins. The tutorial Cutteray can cut them, and the Small Ore Refinery turns the ore into ingots. Use the first reliable batch for the objects that multiply later collection: refinery capacity, a Cutteray upgrade, water containers, the Sandbike chain, and the basic tools required by A New Beginning.
Shipwrecks solve a different early bottleneck. The Wreck of the Alcyon contains Plasteel Microflora Fiber and other fabrication components in fixed chest locations. Bring the Cutteray, open the structural path, and mark any high-value chest you can safely revisit. Do not mistake this fiber for a plant you can harvest in the open world.
Iron only becomes useful when Flour Sand and water keep pace
Iron veins spread across Vermillius Gap and look silver rather than blue. Survey both halves of the region and build a circuit that returns to safe rock before the worm warning becomes critical. Process the ore promptly; carrying raw Iron to a Fabricator does not substitute for ingots.
The same tier needs Flour Sand. Search the pale, smoking patches beyond Hagga Basin South. You can gather manually, but completing the Second Trial of Aql unlocks the Static Compactor schematic and makes bulk extraction safer. Process Flour Sand at the Chemical Refinery into Silicone Blocks. If Iron equipment is stalled on Silicone, another ore lap is wasted time.
Move water production beyond blood alone. Harvest dew-bearing plants at night with the Dew Reaper and store the result in a Cistern. A refinery that can consume a full ore haul without emptying drinking water is the real Iron-tier checkpoint.
Steel is a three-input production test
Carbon Ore appears in Jabal Eifrit and Hagga Rift. Mine it with an appropriate Cutteray, then combine it with Iron and water in the refinery. The route is inefficient if the base is far from both Carbon and water, so establish a northern outpost or schedule water collection before the Carbon run.
Erythrite Crystal glows red in the lower Hagga Rift and processes with water into Cobalt Paste. Enter and exit the Rift through the western opening when possible; a cargo full of crystal is not worth a risky vertical climb. Complex Machinery comes from Ironworks, stations, loot, or merchants, not from Carbon nodes. Steel plus these components opens the specialized fabricators and Buggy tier.
Aluminum runs are won by the component route
Once the Shield Wall and O’odham become practical, Aluminum replaces Steel as the base metal but does not eliminate lower-tier inputs. Carry the radiation protection and Cutteray tier required by your live route, then combine mining with targeted component stops:
- Enemy outposts in the Shield Wall supply weapon components such as Light and Heavy Caliber Compressors.
- Mysa Tarill and other high-level chests can supply Diamondine Dust.
- Wreckage and salvaged ornithopters supply Holtzman Actuators and mechanical parts.
- Testing Stations supply Particle Capacitors, Advanced Servoks, and tier-appropriate chest loot.
- Spice refineries and Spice Fields supply the chain that becomes Spice Melange and Spice Residue.
When a route depends on a chest, record when you personally looted it and rotate to another site. Community testing has reported separate chest and world-resource respawns, but servers, instances, and patches can alter the observed timing. The reliable signal is the live container state, not waiting beside one empty box for a quoted minute count.
Make Duraluminum as an extraction chain
Jasmium Crystal is found in irradiated parts of The Sheol. This is not a casual extension of an Aluminum circuit. Equip the current radiation gear, carry Iodine mitigation, repair the Ornithopter, and choose a landing point with a clear return path. Mine only what the refinery and water supply can process.
At the Medium Ore Refinery, combine Aluminum, Jasmium, and water for Duraluminum. Before spending the first ingots on luxury gear, fund the tools that reduce the next expedition’s failure chance: better survival equipment, vehicle reliability, and Deep Desert access. If a Duraluminum recipe still shows red, inspect unique parts such as Industrial Pumps or coolers; those require targeted locations, not more Jasmium.
Choose the Deep Desert instance before planning Plastanium
Older guides describe the Deep Desert as universally PvP. That is no longer correct. The current game offers separate PvE and PvP choices; official notes state that the PvP instance pays 2.5 times the resource yield. Make the decision before loading cargo:
- PvE: use it for learning the current layout, station mechanics, and extraction route without player attack.
- PvP: take the higher yield only when the expected cargo justifies the extra loss and combat exposure.
The Coriolis cycle changes the Deep Desert layout, so yesterday’s coordinates are a hint rather than a route. Bring survey equipment and search the current map for Titanium nodes, Stravidium sources, shipwrecks, and Testing Stations. Stravidium Mass becomes Stravidium Fiber in the Chemical Refinery; Titanium, that processed fiber, and water form Plastanium at the proper refinery.
Do not count the expedition successful at the first node. A valid Plastanium loop includes extraction, enough cargo space, a safe return, processing capacity, and a plan for the Tier 6 schematic or Augmentation that will consume the ingots. The 1.4.10 endgame route covers Landsraad missions, Specialization XP, repeatable Testing Stations, and Augments after this material loop is stable.
Recover a blocked recipe without guessing
| Red ingredient | Wrong response | Useful next action |
|---|---|---|
| Processed ingot | Mine more of only one input | Open the refinery recipe and check secondary ore, water, and workstation tier |
| Named machine component | Search random ore fields | Hover location types, then route a station, wreck, outpost, vendor, or Exchange listing |
| Spice-infused dust or Unique part | Open ordinary small chests | Find the matching Unique schematic/large chest or current endgame reward source |
| Schematic unavailable | Stockpile recipe materials indefinitely | Check Research, Trial rewards, Journeys, Landsraad, and Specialization gates |
| Cutteray cannot scan/cut | Keep firing until power is empty | Upgrade the Cutteray tier and carry a compatible Power Pack |
For the story gates that introduce each refinery and region, use the region progression guide. This article ends when the material loop is reproducible; it does not prescribe a combat build or a Landsraad track.
