At the Gateway, refusing Narinder begins more than an isolated boss encounter. The choice locks the Lamb into a four-fight health check: Baal, Aym, Narinder’s mobile form, and the three-eye finale. There is no cult break between them, so the winning plan is to preserve health through the two disciples, spend damage only in clear recovery windows, and enter the eye phase with enough room for one mistake.
This route was checked on August 15, 2026. Steam identifies the base game as Cult of the Lamb, App 1313140. Steam also uses Cult of the Lamb: The One Who Waits as an official bundle title rather than a separate campaign executable. The official PC announcement list currently shows patch 1.5.25. The fight itself belongs to the base campaign, while Woolhaven is separate paid content for version 1.5.x and later.
The Gateway tests your roster, then strips your build
Break all four chains by defeating Leshy, Heket, Kallamar, and Shamura. The door will open after the Bishops are gone, but the summoning circle still checks for 20 living Followers. If the circle will not activate, count the current flock rather than the lifetime recruitment total. Rescue or buy replacements before committing to the ritual.
Inside, the game offers three random weapons and three random Curses. This is not a normal Crusade loadout: do not build the plan around a Fleece bonus, collected Tarot Cards, or Resurrection saving a failed run. Prepare effects that exist before the transition, then choose from the six pedestals on their practical value in this arena.
- Fill red health first. A Shield Heart from The Hunger is useful if that Crown ability is unlocked before entry.
- Bring Demons if the current cult can support them. A healing Demon protects the shared health budget; damage Demons keep working while Narinder teleports.
- Prefer a weapon you can stop swinging. A fast or medium-speed weapon makes two-hit punish windows safer. A heavy option is viable only if its recovery timing is already familiar.
- Take an easy-to-aim ranged Curse. Baal can be approached, but Aym and Narinder repeatedly relocate. Reach and reliable targeting matter more than a theoretical damage peak.
- Protect the cult from failed attempts. If repeated deaths are draining Faith at home, Brainwashing before the ritual prevents the boss practice loop from creating a second emergency.
The weapon roll is a constraint, not a reason to demand one named build. Judge the available choices by swing recovery, reach, and whether the Curse can hit a moving or partially exposed target.
Budget one life bar across all four fights
Baal and Aym each leave a Heart, but the gauntlet does not otherwise reset health. Do not automatically collect a full heal for half a missing Heart. Leave it on the floor while the arena remains accessible, then take it before the fight moves to Narinder’s underground eye room. A clean disciple phase is worth more than trying to race the first health bar.
Use the same rule for Fervour: spend it to shorten a dangerous pattern or hit a teleporting target, not because the meter is full. The mobile Narinder phase is where ranged pressure solves the largest access problem. The last phase then asks for patience rather than a damage race.
Let Baal finish the staff chain
Baal is the melee test. His staff sequence commits him to three close attacks, while the prayer animation announces spikes or chains emerging from red ground markers. One variant forms lines or a cross around him; another follows the Lamb for several seconds.
- Stay just outside staff range and let the final thrust finish.
- Return for one short combo, then disengage before the next prayer or swing.
- When the ground markers chase, keep moving in one broad arc. Reversing through the fresh line is more dangerous than finishing the arc.
- Clear summoned cultists only when they occupy the escape lane or hide a red marker. Chasing every add gives Baal time to start another pattern.
If Baal is taking health without an obvious opening, the usual error is attacking between the second and third staff hits. Wait for the entire chain. This first fight should teach the rhythm used for the rest of the gauntlet: telegraph, evade, brief punish, reset.
Do not chase Aym’s teleports
Aym replaces Baal’s pressure with relocation and projectile rings. A teleport is not an invitation to sprint across the room; it is the setup for the next attack. Turn toward the new position, preserve distance, and read whether the follow-up is a ring volley or a prayed spike line.
The ring volley normally arrives in a short sequence. Move through the available gaps while closing only as far as the pattern allows. After the last ring, Aym drops into a brief exhausted or kneeling state. That is the safe damage window. The tracking spike pattern uses the same answer as Baal’s: continue around the arena instead of doubling back over the path it just drew.
Once Aym falls, pause before advancing. Collect whichever disciple Hearts are now efficient, check remaining health and Fervour, and only then trigger Narinder. The room change after his first form removes the opportunity to recover those drops.
Make Narinder come out of his own patterns
Narinder’s first form combines teleports, targeted spike lines, projectile rings, and a rotating cross. Running directly at each reappearance turns his mobility into free damage against the Lamb. Hold a lane near the outer half of the arena, watch the first projectiles establish their path, and move across the gaps rather than following the boss.
- Targeted spikes: keep lateral movement until the final red line is committed, then turn back for a short punish.
- Consecutive rings: create distance and travel around the arena in one direction. A last-second reversal is likely to meet the next ring.
- Rotating cross: either remain beyond its useful radius or roll through one arm and stay in the new sector. Do not repeatedly cross the center.
- Collapsed or stuck state: this is the longest uncontested window. Spend the saved Curse and a full weapon sequence here, then leave before he recovers.
The phase is slow when played safely, but it should not consume the health reserved for the eyes. If every teleport causes a chase, stop attacking until Narinder has completed one full pattern; the next recovery window will be more valuable than a single running hit.
Turn three eyes into one safe half of the room
The final form changes the target from Narinder’s body to three mobile eyes. They share the boss health bar, emerge from different positions, and combine aimed shots, expanding circles, falling projectiles, and screen-crossing walls. The dangerous state is three eyes attacking from three angles. The objective is therefore control, not equal damage.
- Choose one eye, but keep looking at all three. Attack the chosen eye after its volley or while it is closed and settled. If it opens or starts a telegraph, leave immediately even if one more hit would be convenient.
- Remove one source of projectiles quickly. Once an eye retreats, the open half of the arena becomes the recovery lane. Use that space to read the other two instead of crossing back through them.
- Meet projectile walls head-on. Roll through the narrow line as it reaches the Lamb. Running parallel keeps the character inside the hit area and blocks the view of the next wall.
- Reset after every body-wide sequence. Narinder interrupts the eye waves with sweeping projectile formations. Survive the entire formation before reacquiring an eye.
- Do not force contact with the final eye. Its patterns accelerate as the health bar falls. One post-volley punish at a time is enough.
When the remaining health is reduced to a sliver, Narinder’s head slumps into the arena. The eyes are no longer the target; run to the exposed head and finish the fight with the weapon. If an eye remains permanently invulnerable instead of cycling through attacks and retreating, stop repeating the run. Massive Monster’s official 1.5.23 notes specifically fixed invincible TOWW eyes. Update the client to a current build—1.5.25 is the latest numbered PC patch shown in the captured official list—and use the in-game bug report if the state persists.
Read the two ending choices before clicking
There are two decisions, and they happen at different times.
| Decision | Immediate result | Practical consequence |
|---|---|---|
| Kneel / accept before combat | The Lamb is sacrificed and the credits roll | The save returns to the pre-confrontation state; approach again and refuse to fight |
| Refuse before combat | Baal begins the four-fight gauntlet | This is the route to defeat Narinder and continue the world |
| Spare after victory | Narinder can be indoctrinated immediately | He joins with the Immortal trait, which prevents death from old age rather than making him immune to every cause of death |
| Murder after victory | The One Who Waits Trophy blueprint is awarded | The Relics of the Old Faith post-game can later return Narinder as a Follower, so this is not necessarily a permanent follower lockout on a current save |
Spare is the direct choice when the priority is using Narinder at the cult immediately. Murder is the direct choice when the trophy blueprint matters now. The later post-game recovery route means the choice changes reward timing more than it changes the long-term roster.
Use the symptom to diagnose a stalled run
| Symptom | What it means | Next check |
|---|---|---|
| The central door still has a chain | A base-game Bishop remains undefeated | Leshy, Heket, Kallamar, and Shamura completion states |
| The door opens but the circle does not | The living flock is below 20 | Current Follower count, not lifetime recruits |
| Accepting leads to credits | This is the intended sacrifice ending | Reload the save, return to the Gateway, and refuse |
| Health collapses before Narinder | Too many trades in the disciple fights | Wait for Baal’s full combo and Aym’s post-ring recovery |
| The eye room becomes unreadable | Damage is spread across too many active targets | Force one eye to retreat, then use the opened half as the dodge lane |
| An eye never becomes damageable | Known older-build bug or a current regression | Install 1.5.23 or later; on the current build, submit an in-game bug report |
| No post-game rematch quest appears | The base ending or Gateway handoff did not register | Confirm the victory save, leave the cult toward the Crusade doors, and speak to the new figure there |
Do not confuse post-game access with Woolhaven
Defeating Narinder opens the Relics of the Old Faith post-game route: the lands refresh, the Bishop rematches become the new progression spine, and the mysterious figure at the Gateway exchanges God Tears. That route is also the safety net for a save that murdered Narinder and later wants him in the cult.
Woolhaven follows a different gate. The paid expansion can begin after the four base Bishops are defeated and its deity offerings are completed; it does not require this boss victory as the universal trigger. If the goal is only to start Woolhaven, check DLC ownership, base version 1.5.x or later, Yngya’s statue, and the four Bishop states instead of repeating The One Who Waits.
