Retro Rewind SKU Codes: New Release List and Black Market Checks

Retro Rewind office computer showing New Release movies and the Market tab

A valid SKU does not make the order efficient. The Black Market computer route lets you target a title, but that precision normally costs more than ordinary stock. Use it to replace a particular loss, chase a collection gap, or unlock Off The Books. Do not type hundreds of codes to build a starter library.

This guide is bounded to Steam App 3552140 on August 16, 2026. The 27-code New Release list below was checked against a community guide updated after the June VHS-player content update. The developer does not publish an official SKU database, so every code still needs a current-client result check. The announced fall video-game update is not included.

Separate the computer Black Market from the Tape Dealer

Retro Rewind uses two purchasing routes that are easy to conflate:

  • Black Market tab: enter a numeric SKU on the office computer to request one exact movie record.
  • Tape Dealer: visit the seller behind the store on Tuesday and Thursday nights and choose from the small stock he brought that visit.

The dealer is useful for cheap opportunistic stock, including adult titles. The computer is useful when the title matters more than the acquisition price. A note near the loading area signals a dealer visit; a code does not summon or change his inventory.

Read a code from a tape before searching elsewhere

  1. Pick up a tape that you already own.
  2. Use the current Inspect control. On the default PC layout documented by the readable guides, this is F.
  3. Read the SKU in the information panel near the owned-copy and review fields.
  4. Write down the title, genre, edition, and code together. A number without its tape state is easy to misuse.
  5. Open the office computer, select Black Market, enter the number, and inspect the returned title and price before confirming.

If controls were rebound, follow the on-screen Inspect prompt rather than assuming F. The returned title is the decisive check. Cancel when the result, edition, or cost does not match the reason for the order.

Diagnose a rejected or surprising code

Result Likely cause Next check
No result Digit error, stale community entry, or an unmet title unlock Reinspect an owned copy, remove spaces, and check the current unlock board
Correct title, ordinary cover The code identifies the title but does not force a foil roll for that release Do not repeat-buy unless the live preview explicitly changes edition
Correct title, very high price Targeted Black Market pricing is the cost of precision Compare against bundles, the normal Market, the Tape Dealer, and repair
Different title Mistyped code or outdated list Cancel; never assume the community title is more current than the PC result
Known New Release still unavailable The save may not have unlocked or owned that release Advance the release calendar and verify the title in Data before ordering

Four entries in the current table arrived after launch: Lovely Lady, Beaver Week, The Man with The Bat, and Jasper the Happy Mummy. That is why a list can be accurate for its date and still miss later additions.

A foil cover is not one universal code rule

Community evidence describes two relevant cases:

  • For the named New Releases above, the ordinary and holographic version share the title code, while the edition obtained is not guaranteed by entering a different New Release number.
  • The broader procedurally named catalog has community-maintained limited-edition SKU records. A recovered list updated August 1 reported 284 limited tapes, but those hundreds of entries are not an official fixed database.

Use the current PC preview to settle the result. If the goal is the Holographic Showcase achievement, normal New Release and bundle purchases can also produce foil tapes. Repeated high-price SKU orders are a poor substitute for checking stock you already receive.

Choose repair, replacement, or liquidation deliberately

The Repair Desk changed the old replacement calculation. When a tape comes back broken:

  1. check whether it is a named release, foil, strong renter, or reservation bottleneck;
  2. compare the available repair path with the Black Market price;
  3. check ordinary Market stock and the next Tape Dealer visit;
  4. replace by SKU only if the exact title is worth the premium;
  5. if the tape is common and the shelf already has depth, do not let collector anxiety consume expansion cash.

A SKU order fixes specificity. It does not fix a store that has too few genres, too little shelf space, or too much money tied up in duplicates. The store strategy guide gives the cashflow and shelf-capacity checks that should happen before a large code order.

Use one inexpensive order for Off The Books

The achievement requires ordering a movie by SKU through the Black Market. It does not require a rare title or a foil. Inspect a tape you own, enter its verified code, confirm that the returned item is affordable, and complete one purchase. Then return to cheaper supply routes unless a later collection gap justifies another targeted order.

If the unlock does not appear, verify that the purchase completed rather than stopping at the preview, then check the calendar task and Steam achievement state. The all-18 route places this order early so it also contributes one owned tape toward the inventory milestones.

Update boundary for fall 2026

The August developer announcement says the free fall update will add console and video-game rentals, thousands of game titles, dedicated shelving, New Releases, and Tech Shed Electronics. It also says there will be no smaller updates before that release. None of those future game-cartridge identifiers are VHS SKU codes in the current article. Recheck the in-game Data and Black Market screens after that update before treating this table as the whole collectible system.

Official game record

The code table was transcribed from a current readable Steam community reference and checked against the game’s post-launch timeline. Blocked Casual Game Guides pages, unsupported code guessing, trainer pages, and exact-profit promises were not used.
