Tremori hides a shrine card before the escape, and Famiglia punishes wandering away from a companion; Palio asks you to control speed rather than hold it; Pizzu closes an impound yard behind you; and Il Barone changes from driving to pursuit to a long camp assault. Treat this stretch as a series of handoffs, not one extended tutorial.
Tremori: count the shrine before the escape
The mine route is linear, but the first Saints’ Card is easy to walk past because the collection system has not yet been framed as a long-term task. After Enzo reaches daylight and follows Gaetano through the crowd, inspect the shrine on the right before entering the bunkhouse. That is the Santa Barbara card. If you reach the food-storehouse plan without it, finish the prologue and mark the card for replay rather than assuming open exploration will return you to the same mine state.
The storehouse is an observation test. Let the first guard move, squeeze through the marked gap, crawl under the cart, and use Gaetano’s distraction before entering. The knife on the table opens the lock; the surrounding rooms hold notes, but notes are not part of the 143-item collection tracked for the base-game collection achievement. Keeping those categories separate prevents a long cleanup based on the wrong counter.
During the gas search, the blocked door sends you left over an obstacle. Once the mine ignites, stop searching: the route becomes a forward sprint with small vaults. The Il Merlo encounter is still a guided duel. Use it to learn the difference between ordinary attacks and the prompts the game requires, but do not build later duel timing around this scripted version.
Famiglia has one safe window for the vineyard sweep
The opening escape introduces a durable rhythm for stealth: Instinct locates guards through walls, choking preserves knife sharpness, and a Whetstone restores the blade before a forced lock. At the vineyard, however, Enzo is on a leash during the chores. Straying too far while carrying crates, the pig, or following Cesare can fail the objective, so collect only what is inside the rooms the job already visits.
Collect each item before reporting the task complete. In the butcher room, take A Gift from Gulotta before lifting the pig. In the kitchen, check the nearby tables while Valentina and Cesare talk. At the stables, take Cosimo’s Care before reporting the job complete. The real free search window begins at Prepare for Dinner: climb the stairs behind the men by the green car for the Opera Season newspaper, then enter Enzo’s room and collect the Sant’Agata Charm from the desk before using the tub.
Enzo’s room is also the first reliable loadout checkpoint. If a chosen outfit refuses to appear during the campaign, the problem may be the story-outfit setting rather than a failed unlock. That cosmetic switch has no bearing on route progress, so do not reload the chapter to solve it.
Palio: buy for the route you are about to run
Pasquale gives Enzo his first Dinari and introduces Trinacria coins as exchangeable finds. The glowing Mystery Fox in the lower shop is not a free pickup; it costs 5,000 Dinari and is better recorded for later than treated as an early-game blocker. With only 200 Dinari for the first knife, choose by special action and durability, not by a permanent ranking:
- Scannaturi supports ranged knife takedowns.
- Rasolu supports takedowns during combat.
- Stiletto emphasizes durability, which is useful when the next chapters contain multiple lockboxes.
Luca’s lesson establishes the duel read. A normal attack can be parried; a red-marked heavy strike must be dodged; a blocking opponent can be opened with your own heavy strike. Against Luca and then L’Ombra, waiting for a readable attack is safer than beginning a long combo. L’Ombra becomes more willing to use unblockable strikes in the second phase, so watch the hands rather than the health bar.
Before reporting to the Torrisi tent, collect the Fortunato Charm on the left side of the tent area and the Floods in Europe newspaper nearby. The Palio itself is two laps against eight other riders. Do not spend every spur charge at the start. Use bursts on straight sections or immediately after a clean corner, let the horse’s pace build, and avoid clipping riders in a crowded turn. The race is won by maintaining a usable line, not by maximizing the speed indicator every second.
Pizzu: protect the optional meeting and both safe rooms
Chapter 3 opens with the easiest story achievement to miss. The white secondary objective sends Enzo to Isabella in the garden before he meets Luca at the stables. Complete that meeting for Garden Rendezvous, then inspect the fireplace area for the Astuzia Charm. Leaving with Luca closes this opportunity until replay.
The citrus farm is the first safe check. After the intimidation sequence, the combination document and safe are in the next room; the verified combination is 10-20-30. At the Royal Customs impound yard, stealth is an instant-fail condition. Wait for paired guards to separate, use Instinct before crossing a gap, and prefer chokes where a later lockbox matters. The side office before the whisky yard contains a second safe, verified as 21-10-08.
Inside the crate maze, the whisky is on the truck at the far end. The important detour is the back-left corner, where the first numbered Mystery Fox sits. Open the exit only after that search: the chapter page explicitly warns that this mission state cannot be re-entered without Chapter Replay. Once outside, the next ride may be skipped after the dialogue if the prompt is enabled, but the Italian Explorer newspaper at Fichera’s farm should be taken before the bandit job begins.
The farm fight teaches the gun cadence used for the rest of the campaign. Let the reticle settle instead of firing a long inaccurate string. Take the rifle, shoot the padlock rather than spending knife durability, heal and reload before opening the barn, then read the ambush in waves: front, right, left. Bandits will try to flank a static cover position, so the safe response is a short reposition after each wave, not an unsupported charge.
Il Barone changes the correct range three times
The ride with Isabella contains two low-stakes tests. Winning her off-road race changes dialogue but grants no reward, so a loss is not a reason to reload. At the overlook, align the shrinking rings until the cursor confirms the subject and take The Temple Complex photograph; this is where the camera becomes available for later landscape targets.
On the Circuit of the Gods, release the accelerator before a corner and brake before the car starts sliding. The vehicle is heavy, and wall contact costs more time than coasting. That same restraint matters in the kidnapping chase: fire at the trailing riders, not the invulnerable carriage, and take the alternate branch when a burning projectile blocks one side of the split road.
Messina’s camp is a different problem. At the entrance, collect the Fantasma Charm before choosing stealth or gunfire. The outer patrols are isolated enough for takedowns, while clustered enemies at campfires justify grenades. Inside the cave, take the Russo-Japanese War newspaper; before the next covered position, collect Mystery Fox 2. Higher on the route, use the available precision rifle against the elevated shooters and a pistol or shotgun against rushers below.
Before untying Gennaro, collect the San Giuda Charm and the ransom note. Messina is aggressive but readable: parry ordinary pressure, dodge the red strike, and counter only after he commits. He seldom holds a guard long enough to make repeated heavy attacks worthwhile.
Carry this state into Chapter 5
By the end of Il Barone, the run should have a working knife-maintenance habit, a dependable medium- or long-range gun option, the Garden Rendezvous event, the early mission-only foxes, and the camera. A useful manual check is:
- Santa Barbara card from Tremori;
- Opera Season newspaper and Sant’Agata Charm from Famiglia;
- Fortunato and Floods in Europe from Palio;
- Astuzia, both Chapter 3 safes, Mystery Fox 1, and Italian Explorer from Pizzu;
- The Temple Complex photo, Fantasma, Russo-Japanese War, Mystery Fox 2, and San Giuda from Il Barone.
Check these mission interiors before continuing; leave the countryside sweep for Free Ride. The base-game collectibles roadmap separates mission interiors from the items better left for Free Ride. Continue with the Chapters 5 to 9 walkthrough when the villa operation begins.
Check the edition and chapter route
For later chapter changes, compare the current Steam product record. Hangar 13 developed the game and 2K published it; the base game released in August 2025. The current store also includes the Man of Honor expansion released on August 14, 2026. That expansion adds two later chapters and separate Free Ride content, but it does not change the base Prologue through Chapter 4 route covered here. When a current checkpoint or interface differs from a launch-era guide, use the live objective and collection menus as the final readback.
