Free Ride now has two ownership layers. The November 2025 update replaced the old Explore mode for every base-game owner and added races, combat challenges, rewards, Classic difficulty, Photo Mode, and first-person driving. Man of Honor released on August 14, 2026 as paid DLC and adds Salieri jobs, extreme challenges, and separate discoverables. Check which contact or icon is asking for the expansion before treating a missing activity as a progression bug.
Read the map as a progression screen
The free update’s activities do not all appear at once. Official material says combat challenges unlock as the main story advances, and corresponding locations become available after their story chapters. Free Ride uses the world as a hub: unlock Hitching Posts, travel to contacts, and enter an instanced combat location or special race state from there. A player who has finished the story starts with the broadest base set, while a mid-story save should expect gaps.
Before troubleshooting an icon, check four things in order:
- Is the base game updated past the November 20, 2025 Free Ride release?
- Has the related story area and chapter been completed?
- Does the challenge chain require an earlier event from the same type?
- Is the contact Salieri or the map item labeled as Man of Honor content?
If the fourth answer is yes, base ownership alone is not enough. The current Steam DLC page explicitly marks Salieri’s Free Ride missions and new discoverables as expansion content.
The free challenge board has 24 events
Readable update coverage and official descriptions establish the base Free Ride board as 15 races and 9 combat events:
| Type | Count | Win condition to practice first |
|---|---|---|
| Circuit races | 3 | Repeatable laps; preserve speed through known corners |
| Road sprints | 3 | Point-to-point traffic and opponent management |
| Time trials | 6 | Clean checkpoint or freeform route execution |
| Horse races | 3 | Spur timing and an inside line without collisions |
| Standoffs | 5 | Open combat, resource control, and survivable positioning |
| Assassinations | 4 | Undetected approach, target removal, and escape |
Challenges can be replayed and award Dinari used at Pasquale’s store; progress also unlocks new outfits, weapons, vehicles, and Charms. The efficient first pass is breadth, not perfect times: clear each available activity at a qualifying result, buy only an upgrade that changes the next weak category, then return for higher tiers after the full chain is visible.
Open with time trials, then test traffic
A solo time trial removes opponent contact and reveals whether the problem is the route, the car, or the player’s braking. Use third-person view for the first read because it exposes the rear of the car and road edges. First-person driving is a fully supported option and can be more immersive, but dust, smoke, and the narrower view can hide a turn; it is not automatically the fastest camera.
For any car event, brake before the steering input becomes severe. The campaign’s Chapter 7 race teaches the underlying handling correctly: accelerate on straights, release or feather the brake before the corner, take a tighter stable line than opponents, then commit to acceleration only after the car is pointed out of the bend. A small early slowdown loses less time than a wall strike or spin.
Move from time trials to circuit races once several corners can be repeated without contact. Road sprints come next because they add opponents to a route that does not loop. Use the first run to identify blind crests, choke points, and sections where an overtake would force two cars into the same line. A pass postponed to the next straight is usually cheaper than a collision.
Horse races are an energy schedule
Do not hold the spur input as if it were a permanent throttle. Save a burst for the exit of a turn or a clear straight, maintain the lane while other riders bunch up, and avoid spending the entire reserve just to lead the first sector. The Palio and Isabella race establish the same rule: the horse can regain ground after a controlled turn, but a collision destroys both line and momentum.
If a result is repeatedly close, change one variable. First test spur timing with the same horse; then test the line; only then spend Dinari or switch mounts. Simultaneously changing horse, route, and input timing makes the improvement impossible to diagnose.
Build a Standoff loadout around the arena’s bad angle
Standoffs are open combat rather than infiltration puzzles. Enter the first attempt to locate long sightlines, close flanking lanes, supply points, and cover that becomes exposed when a second group arrives. Then choose one gun for the arena’s dominant range and a secondary for the angle that broke the run. A rifle plus shotgun is stronger than two similar weapons when enemies can both pin and rush.
During a run, finish the immediate flanker before chasing a distant target. Loot only when the firing lane is controlled; an ammunition pickup is not worth leaving hard cover while another group has an angle. Instinct helps identify an attacker who stopped calling out or moved behind the current cover. If the position becomes surrounded, relocate during an enemy reload rather than after health is already critical.
Use Charms to solve a measured weakness. Faster reload, more ammunition, improved recovery, quieter movement, and steadier aim answer different failures. “Highest damage” is not a universal Standoff choice when the lost run came from empty reserves or a slow bandage.
Assassinations reward a repeatable route
Official developer commentary describes Assassinations as events to experiment with until the approach is clean. On attempt one, find the target, an entry that avoids paired guards, a body-hide or low-visibility zone, and the nearest escape direction. On attempt two, remove only guards that block that route. Clearing an entire location adds takedowns and discovery risks without necessarily improving the result.
Carry a distraction object before crossing the last exposed section. If two guards share vision, turn one with a thrown object and pass behind the other rather than forcing two takedowns. A Scannaturi supports a ranged knife solution; a quieter or more durable blade supports another. Preserve knife sharpness if a lock or optional safe may still matter on the route.
The supplied individual assassination walkthroughs returned 403 challenge pages, so this guide does not invent target patrols or safe positions for Bandit Camp, Villa Ludovici, San Celeste Town Hall, or Fiumansa Tannery. Use the event’s first run as a current-client reconnaissance pass rather than trusting a fixed patrol route that the available evidence could not verify.
Playing with Fire begins with the apartment, not a map icon
The official PlayStation developer interview points players toward notes in Enzo’s apartment for the update’s hidden investigation. Check the apartment table and Journal before roaming for a marker. The supplied full treasure-hunt page was blocked by a security challenge, so this article stops at the independently readable starting checkpoint and does not fabricate the subsequent clue locations.
That boundary is deliberate: completing an incomplete breadcrumb list wastes more time than admitting where direct evidence ends. If the note is missing, verify update state and story progress before searching the world.
Classic difficulty belongs on its own save plan
Classic is not merely a higher enemy-health preset. The free update describes stricter health and ammunition management, less assistance, and a more demanding combat and driving experience. Finish a normal run first if the objective is efficient story and collection cleanup; use that save to learn duel tells, sniper reload windows, race corners, and mission-only pickups.
For a Classic story run, avoid changing difficulty mid-campaign if the achievement is the goal. Keep a ranged option whenever a chapter fixes the rest of the loadout, loot only after a lane is safe, and repair the knife before a long stealth interior. Cinema Siciliano, Photo Mode, and first-person driving are presentation choices, not proof that Classic’s completion condition has been met.
Man of Honor is a paid second board
The current Steam appdetails marks Man of Honor released on August 14, 2026. Its two story chapters are accompanied by Salieri’s exclusive Free Ride content:
- harder combat encounters, assassinations, and car races;
- jobs to locate hidden caches;
- high-value vehicle deliveries;
- fragile-goods truck thefts;
- Wanted Poster targets, dedicated stunt-jump locations, and enemy sulfur vehicles meant to be destroyed;
- new guns, knives, Charms, vehicles, horses, outfits, hats, and achievements.
Those items should not be merged into the free board’s 24-event audit. If Salieri is absent, confirm DLC installation and reach the expansion’s required story state; do not grind the original Standoffs expecting a paid job to appear.
Use three readbacks before calling Free Ride complete
First, inspect the map and contacts for an unplayed base challenge chain. Second, inspect Pasquale’s inventory for an unlock whose prerequisite is still named. Third, inspect the live platform achievement list. Steam currently shows 62 achievements, while launch guides describe 50; the difference reflects post-launch content, not necessarily a damaged save.
The base collectibles roadmap handles the 143 original collection items and explains why DLC discoverables need a separate ledger. The opening walkthrough, mid-game walkthrough, and finale walkthrough cover the story gates that feed this mode.
Sources and current date
The free-mode behavior was checked against the 2K Free Ride announcement, a readable PlayStation Blog interview with Hangar 13, current Steam data, and readable update coverage. Man of Honor ownership, release date, jobs, discoverables, and item types come from the live Steam DLC appdetails and the 2K expansion announcement. The time boundary is August 17, 2026. No blocked Neoseeker or 2K Support challenge shell was used to supply an activity route.
