The first chickens arrive before the ranch is ready for livestock. That is the point of the chapter: the cages, letter, feeder, water, overnight wait, eggs, predator damage, animal-market trip, and barn restoration are one readiness test. Buying extra animals before the original birds have food, water, a closed enclosure, and a confirmed egg cycle multiplies every failure.
This route uses the visible chicken and barn task chains from verified episodes 5–7, including the official August 21, 2026 update posted at 20:50 UTC. It stops at early livestock setup. It does not claim that cows, horses, breeding, milk equipment, feed consumption, animal prices, or growth time remain fixed throughout Early Access.
Do not leave the delivered birds in their cages
The chicken chapter begins with a letter left on the chicken cages. Expand the chapter on the tablet instead of relying on the top-right summary. In the inspected retail route, the visible sequence is: read the letter, move every chicken into the coop, fill the feeder, provide fresh water, let them spend a night in the new home, then collect two eggs.
Read and act in that order. The letter is a trigger, not decoration. Moving one bird proves the interaction, but the next line should not be assumed complete until all delivered birds are out of their cages and the tablet checks the step. Close the coop gate after the transfer; an open gate is a route for animals and a source of ambiguity when the next check fails.
- Read the letter on or beside the cages.
- Carry each delivered chicken to the coop and release it inside.
- Count the visible birds and compare the tablet line before discarding or moving the cages.
- Close the gate and inspect the enclosure for a damaged section.
- Only then load feed and water.
Feed and water are two containers with two proofs
The footage places chicken feed near the delivered cages and directs it into the coop feeder. Fresh water comes from a ranch water source and is poured into the appropriate container. Do not scatter feed on the ground because the birds animate near it; use the labeled feeder and watch the chapter line change.
For water, take a bucket or other accepted container to the tap or well, fill it, return to the coop, and pour into the drinking point identified by the interaction prompt. A carried full container is not proof that the drinker received it. Reinspect the coop and tablet after pouring.
If either task refuses to complete, reduce the problem:
- Confirm the held item is chicken feed rather than dog, cat, or large-animal feed.
- Approach the labeled feeder or water point without another bulky item equipped.
- Use one fill and reopen the tablet instead of emptying every sack.
- Check that every original bird is physically inside the enclosure.
The first night is a checkpoint, not dead time
The chapter explicitly asks the player to let the chickens spend a night in their new home before collecting two eggs. Before sleeping, verify all four preconditions: birds inside, gate closed, feed accepted, and fresh water accepted. Save from that stable state.
After waking, return directly to the chicken house and look for the eggs before starting a market trip or barn repair. Pick up the requested eggs and wait for the tablet readback. Store-bought eggs are not a safe substitute for a chicken-production objective; an earlier official demo patch explicitly prevented store eggs from satisfying a chicken quest, and the retail route visibly asks for eggs from the coop.
Patch 2026-08-21 changed the egg quantity in the fried-eggs-with-bacon recipe. That is a cooking balance fact, not a reason to rewrite the chicken chapter’s live objective. Let the current task and current recipe show their own quantities.
Repair a predator breach before adding market animals
The verified run later reports a chicken killed and opens a fence-repair response. Treat a predator event as an enclosure failure first. Inspect the coop perimeter, find the damaged or interactable section, and use the repair prompt’s current material/tool list. Do not buy replacement birds into an open enclosure.
The dog is a warning layer, not an automatic invulnerability buff. The episode explains that the dog alerts the player when wildlife threatens livestock; the player still has to respond. Keep a lawful, in-game weapon accessible only if that chapter has introduced it, identify the threat before firing, and avoid aiming through the enclosure where a domestic animal occupies the same line.
There is no evidence here for a permanent predator timer, guaranteed dog interception, or exact loss probability. The actionable signal is the alert plus visible fence/animal state.
Use the animal market as a transport transaction
The next early livestock task sends the player to the animal market to buy a dog, a hen, and a rooster. The market interface displays individual animals with sex, age, and health-style attributes, then places selected animals into the vehicle cargo area. Do not copy an observed price or breed as mandatory; choose the required animal type and confirm its identity in the transaction panel.
- Pin the animal-market task and travel with an empty vehicle cargo area.
- Select the dog, hen, and rooster required by your current tablet lines.
- Review the transaction before finalizing; animal icons are more reliable than a quick color comparison.
- Confirm all purchased animals appear under the vehicle’s cargo tab.
- Travel home and unload at the correct enclosure.
- Release chickens inside the coop; release the dog where it can remain on the ranch without blocking a gate.
Patch 2026-08-21 added double-click support for putting held items or animals into a vehicle. Use it as a convenience, then inspect the cargo panel. A double-click animation without the animal icon in cargo is not a completed load.
Restore the barn in four visible passes
Barn repair is large enough to become confusing if walls, roof, paint, and interior provisioning are mixed. The inspected route exposes them as sequential passes. Preserve that separation even if the game lets you carry supplies for later stages.
Pass 1: exterior wall sections
Walk one direction around the barn and repair every highlighted wall section. The launch-week tablet displayed a finite wall counter; treat your current counter as authoritative. Recheck corners, door frames, and panels partly hidden by plants before assuming the chapter is stuck.
Pass 2: roof sections and sheet material
The roof line uses a separate counter and asks for corrugated sheet material. Use the visible scaffold or ladder route, keep the required sheet and tool available, and finish one highlighted roof section before carrying a large stack upward. Patch history includes scaffolding improvements, and the current client should be used for climbing behavior.
Pass 3: acquire paint, then cover the accepted panels
Once structural counters are complete, the barn asks for paint and then tracks painted surfaces. Fill the correct tray, load the roller, and use a perimeter sweep. A panel that remains dark can be unpainted, out of paint range, structurally incomplete, or simply shadowed; rely on the counter and highlight rather than color alone.
Pass 4: prepare the interior for feed and future stock
After restoration, the inspected task list advances to mowing/gathering hay and placing feed or fertilizer sacks in the barn. Keep these supplies in their labeled storage area instead of mixing them with chicken feed. The service tablet also exposes farm-building plans, including cow-shed options, but purchasing a plan is outside this early guide and does not prove that the barn care loop is ready.
Patch-first checks for animals that vanish, refuse food, or age incorrectly
Launch-week animal state changed across several official fixes:
- August 9 fixed dog and cat bowls saving incorrectly and spawning extra objects after load.
- August 11 addressed some disappearing-animal cases and made dog/cat bowls packable.
- August 13 addressed animals not growing properly and chickens refusing food when there were too many.
- August 21 addressed some chickens disappearing when they grow into juveniles, made chicks visible in the animal registry, and added a working cow-shed trough tap.
Update before replacing a missing animal. Save, reload once, check the physical enclosure, vehicle cargo, and animal registry, then compare the tablet. If the bird vanished during a juvenile transition on an older build, buying another bird does not establish what happened to the original. Record the patch date and state first.
The expansion decision comes after three readbacks
Add more animals only when the first chickens produce eggs, a market animal survives the transport/unload cycle, and the barn’s structural counters are complete. Those three proofs cover care, logistics, and shelter. They are more useful than a theoretical “best animal” list in an actively patched simulation.
The embedded episode 5 was independently matched to Einfach Ray and the supplied local MP4. It shows continued watering, the chicken letter and care chain, the overnight egg step, predator/fence trouble, the animal-market interface, vehicle cargo, and release at home. Episode 6 was separately checked for the barn walls, roof, sheet material, paint, and interior transition.
If your current job is still soil and cucumber moisture, use the garden guide. If the barn is stable and the tablet points to the lake, the first-catch route covers the float and reel minigame without repeating livestock setup.
