Spiritstead Spirits Guide: All 35 Unlocks and a Risk-Safe Order

The Spiritstead journal showing Wooly and the spirit collection

Most Spiritstead spirits are not found by searching for a glowing pickup. They are state checks: the right creature at the right building, a precise group of objects, a portal or tower brought online, or a collection completed in one save. If an attempt fails, repeating it faster rarely helps. Rebuild the required state, perform one clean interaction, and read the spirit journal before changing anything else.

This guide covers all 35 full-release spirits. It was checked on August 23, 2026, with official v1.0.5 as the newest named patch found. That patch added Summon Rain, which materially improves one weather-dependent unlock. Old demo saves are not reliable test beds for this roster; Turbo Dog Games says they are incompatible with the retail build.

Protect three unlocks before the town becomes expensive to change

Old Kasper requires three homes to become abandoned after residents leave. It is much easier while the settlement is small. A late attempt can require dismantling the happiness and food network that keeps dozens of villagers working.

Mizzrick needs a Market built during rain at night. Patch v1.0.5 makes rain controllable after the relevant Wizard power is available, but you still need an open building footprint and the correct time window. Reserve one Market purchase instead of placing every available Market early.

Lozento depends on the Snow decoration collection. Do not treat the Winter minigame as optional cleanup: finish its collection and keep room to place the required snowy decorations.

Make a manual save before any test that lowers happiness, sacrifices an animal, removes a border bush, or spends a one-time Sanctuary contribution. Then use this four-step protocol:

  1. Open the journal and identify the still-locked silhouette.
  2. Confirm that the needed biome, object, animal, or God Power is currently available.
  3. Arrange the state once and perform one deliberate interaction.
  4. Wait for the journal/achievement response. If nothing changes, restore the setup before trying a different position.

The nine one-star spirits teach the interaction language

These are not all equally early, despite sharing the first journal tier. Snapkin needs Swamp decorations, while the sheep interactions wait for livestock. The star tab describes unlock grouping, not a promise that every entry belongs to the tutorial.

Spirit Required state and action What proves it worked
Nibbin Reach the first Spirit Temple and activate its portal with the opener introduced by the tutorial. The first area-spirit entry appears after the portal becomes active.
Peppok Pick up a chicken and hold it directly over a lit Bonfire for roughly three seconds. Do not release at the edge of the heat. Wait for the Peppok entry before moving the chicken away.
Wispur Man Lift a villager toward the upper map edge and release so the villager is thrown into the air. The villager returns safely and Wispur Man registers. A short drop inside town may not count as a throw.
Styx Jr. Place a villager into an already active Spirit Portal. The portal accepts the interaction and the new spirit replaces the missing journal silhouette.
Snapkin After Swamp decorations unlock, group eight Jack-o’-lanterns in the same compact area. Count the placed objects, not the shop quantity. The eighth valid placement should trigger the entry.
Wooly Carry a sheep to an active Spirit Portal and drop it into the portal target. Wooly appears in the journal; placing the sheep beside the structure is not enough.
Flumbo Throw a sheep upward using the same high-edge technique used for Wispur Man. Look for Flumbo after the airborne release rather than repeatedly dropping the sheep at ground level.
Blazer Hold a sheep over a burning Bonfire until the interaction resolves. Keep the animal centered over the flame and wait for the journal response.
Yolkos Carry a chicken to the Food Warehouse and drop it onto the building’s interaction target. The warehouse must accept the animal as the target; a chicken dropped beside its footprint will not satisfy the check.

The common failure across this tier is an imprecise target. When the game means “inside the portal” or “on the warehouse,” adjacency is not equivalent. Zoom in, place the held creature at the structure’s interactive center, then wait for the readback.

Build combinations before testing creature interactions

Several two-star spirits watch a layout rather than a single click. Clear a small test pad, remove unrelated props that make spacing ambiguous, and place the required pieces together. If it fails, move one object at a time; bulldozing the entire arrangement removes the comparison that could identify the bad tile.

A Spiritstead village placement grid with fields, animals, and buildings
A clear placement pad makes adjacency visible. Decorative overlap can hide the one gap that prevents a combination from registering.
Spirit Combination Failure check
Mr. Scrook Place one Wheat Crop, a Windmill, and a Scarecrow so all three belong to the same adjacent cluster. If no unlock appears, close the gap between the three footprints instead of adding extra wheat.
Blumby Make one touching group from three different flower varieties. Three copies of the same flower do not meet the variety condition.
Plop Place three Swamp Reliefs in one straight, uninterrupted row. A triangle or a staggered line fails even when the three toilets are close.
Beezly Surround a single tree with a complete ring of flowers. Inspect the back side of the tree; foliage can hide an empty ring position.
Bluji Plant five Grim Trees next to one another as a connected group. Use a tight row if an irregular cluster does not register, then check the journal before adding a sixth.
Polabory At night in the Snow biome, place a Roasting Fire directly beside a Picnic Table. All three conditions matter: correct biome, night state, and adjacency.
Tumblo Arrange eight flowers as a full circle around one Gravestone. Count eight valid placements and look for a missing rear tile obscured by the stone.

Portal and tower spirits follow Adventure progression

Do not spend time inventing an interaction for an area spirit. Three entries are the readback for bringing a portal online, and one arrives with the snowy Wizard Tower. If a silhouette remains empty, inspect the structure state rather than the surrounding animals.

  • Glintin: reveal the Winter Spirit Portal, attach the ice-family opener, and confirm the portal is active.
  • Mushin: discover the Swamp Spirit Portal and complete its opener requirement.
  • Wizon: restore/unlock the Wizard Tower in the Snow lands as the Adventure quest chain demands.
  • Nibbin: if the first portal entry is still missing, return to the tutorial Spirit Temple and verify that its opener was attached to the actual portal.

The Spiritstead Adventure walkthrough keeps these gates in their quest order. The important diagnostic is local: a visible ruin is not yet an unlocked tower, and a placed opener is not necessarily connected to its portal.

Use held animals and villagers as exact inputs

These two-star spirits all require a target that can be mistaken for background scenery. Pause the town, center the target, complete one interaction, and put the creature or villager back before the next test.

Spirit Action Important distinction
Dr. Barker Carry a dog into the Hospital. A fox, sheep, or deer is not a dog. If no dog is available, advance the dog-related settlement unlocks before retesting.
Aligato Give a chicken to a crocodile in the Swamp. The crocodile must receive the chicken; dropping it merely near the habitat can leave the condition unresolved.
Gato Put a fox into Bucket Fishing. Use the bucket-style fishing structure, not the collection minigame screen.
Mammoblu Hold a mammoth over a lit Bonfire. Keep the mammoth centered long enough for the state check, as with the earlier fire interactions.
Pottwinsies Wait until one villager is using an Outhouse, then place a second villager into that occupied building. An empty Outhouse plus two villagers standing outside does not create the occupied state.
Funtommy After unlocking Plop, hold Plop over a Bonfire. This is a spirit-on-fire interaction, not another farm-animal test.

God Powers unlock five weather and wildlife checks

The main Wizard Tower opens God Powers in the late Adventure route. If Lightning Strike or Heart Power is unavailable, no amount of repositioning the target can work. Finish the tower chain first, then perform the actions on a clear screen.

  • Lurpin: wait for night and use Lightning Strike on a dog.
  • Toward: use Lightning Strike on a villager.
  • Moonrin: apply Heart Power to three deer. Confirm each target rather than clicking the same deer repeatedly.
  • Barkbecue Louie: use Lightning Strike on a tree. Steam’s achievement list currently renders the associated name as “Barkbecue Lovie,” but the roster/guides identify the spirit as Barkbecue Louie.
  • Mizzrick: construct a Market while it is both raining and night. On v1.0.5, Summon Rain can create the missing weather after the power is unlocked; trigger rain at night, verify the rainfall, then place the reserved Market.

For Mizzrick, an already-built Market does not prove the construction event occurred inside the required window. Keep the purchase unplaced until night, save, summon rain, and build once. If the spirit fails to register, reload the clean setup instead of waiting through another uncontrolled cycle.

Scruffern is a map-object search, not a decoration recipe

Scruffern is triggered by removing a particular bush near the outer map horizon. Use the bulldozer, not a placement move. Sweep the current border in a consistent direction and inspect natural bushes at the edge of purchased land. Remove one suspect bush, check the journal, and continue only if it fails.

Do not erase every tree and shrub in the settlement while searching. That makes it impossible to know which removal mattered and can interfere with the separate Creative achievement for clearing pre-placed vegetation. If the currently exposed border produces no result, buy the next intended territory and extend the sweep along the new horizon.

Finish the three collection spirits with visible counters

Collection spirits should be solved from the minigame or unlock counter, not memory. A caught item that never entered the collection grid is not proof of completion.

The Spiritstead fishing minigame and collection panel
Use the collection panel to identify the missing species. Repeating a favorite fish does not advance a ten-species requirement.
  • Oscar the Fish: complete the fishing collection by catching all ten species. Use the grid to choose the missing target and confirm 100% rather than counting total catches.
  • Lozento: unlock the complete Snow decoration set. The verified community route ties this to 100% completion of the Winter decoration minigame and then placing every required Snow decoration in the snowy region. If the journal remains empty, compare the build menu and placed set one item at a time.
  • Mr. Bellyup: catch all four frogs in the Swamp froggy minigame. The full four-entry collection, not a high score or repeated frog, is the trigger.

Old Kasper requires controlled abandonment

Old Kasper appears after villagers move out and leave three abandoned houses. Empty housing that was never occupied does not establish that history. The condition is about residents leaving.

The low-cost route is early in Adventure:

  1. Reach at least three occupied homes while the settlement is still small.
  2. Make a separate save so this experiment cannot destroy the main route.
  3. Remove or disable the food and happiness support needed to hold the settlement at zero happiness.
  4. Wait for three residents to move out and verify that their former houses show the abandoned state.
  5. Check for Old Kasper, then immediately restore food, work assignments, and happiness before rebuilding population.

A late-game attempt is possible but costly. Roads, lights, decorations, food, healthcare, toilets, Markets, Cafes, and Bonfires can all keep happiness above zero. Removing them simultaneously creates a town where unhappy workers no longer produce the food needed for recovery. If you must do it late, preserve a healthy manual save, store resources first, and remove one support category at a time until the live happiness readback reaches zero.

Do not confuse Old Towers with abandoned houses. The three buildings must be former homes whose residents actually left.

The 35-spirit checklist in dependency order

Use this as the final roster audit. The order minimizes waiting and flags the entries that cannot be finished until a later biome.

  1. First portal: Nibbin.
  2. First chickens and Bonfire: Peppok, Yolkos, plus the early Devil Thoughts achievement check if desired.
  3. Early population: Wispur Man, Styx Jr., and the controlled Old Kasper attempt.
  4. Basic layouts: Blumby, Mr. Scrook, and Beezly.
  5. Sheep available: Wooly, Flumbo, and Blazer.
  6. Map-edge sweep: Scruffern.
  7. Winter portal/tower: Glintin and Wizon.
  8. Winter objects and wildlife: Gato, Polabory, Mammoblu, Oscar the Fish, and Lozento.
  9. Main Wizard Powers: Lurpin, Toward, Moonrin, Barkbecue Louie, and Mizzrick.
  10. Swamp portal and builds: Mushin, Plop, Snapkin, Bluji, Aligato, Tumblo, and Mr. Bellyup.
  11. Any-biome held targets: Dr. Barker, Pottwinsies, and Funtommy.

That audit totals 35: nine one-star entries, 20 two-star entries, and six three-star entries. If the journal count is short, compare the missing silhouette’s tab and dependency group before repeating completed interactions.

When the journal does not update

The object arrangement looks correct: separate different varieties from duplicate copies, remove hidden gaps, and ensure the group is in the required biome. Re-place one object, then read the journal.

A held creature bounces away: zoom in and target the building’s interactive center. Pause other work so the animal is not walking through a crowded footprint.

A lightning or heart interaction does nothing: verify the main Wizard Tower and the exact God Power. Weather, time, target species, and power are separate conditions.

A portal spirit is missing: confirm the opener is attached to the region’s real portal and that the portal has entered its active state. A nearby decorative placement is not activation.

The collection reads 100% but the spirit is absent: save, return to the map, and reopen the journal. If it still fails on v1.0.5 or later, record the version, collection screen, and missing spirit before reporting it; do not erase the save or restart the collection blindly.

You continued a demo save: move the test to a clean retail save. Official launch guidance warns that demo saves may still appear but can cause bugs in the full game.
