Riddle Master requires three separate solutions: the book tables, the colored torches, and the four-item pillar. Simply reaching the room completes none of them; each must produce its own in-game success state before the Steam achievement can unlock.
The solutions below were checked on August 24, 2026, against two readable Steam Community records, corroborating player discussions, and the legal state of the book puzzle. The newest named official update found was v1.1.0. Its notes do not list a riddle change, but the current client remains authoritative if a later patch changes an interaction.
Check the board before committing an item
Bring the required pillar items with you, but do not discard the rest of your inventory to make room. At each puzzle, identify the interactable slots and record the starting layout. If the object does not accept an input, confirm that you are using the puzzle’s interaction point rather than dropping an item beside it.
A safe completion pass looks like this:
- Solve the Pillar Riddle and wait for its response.
- Set all five colored torches, then recheck their positions as a single pattern.
- Move the five books without violating size order.
- Open the achievement or journal panel only after all three world states have registered.
This order is for convenience, not a documented missable rule. The important point is that no single solution grants the achievement by itself.
Place four offerings on the Pillar Riddle
The pillar near the right side of the Ancient Lab has four sockets arranged as a square. Use this exact layout:

Do not swap raw gold ore for the processed ingot. If all four graphics appear but no completion response occurs, remove the last input and verify its item name before replacing it. The same pillar also awards one Ghost Essence, so collect the result rather than leaving immediately. That reward belongs to the separate blessings and Ghost Essence route.
Make the torch pattern match the five biome colors
The torch puzzle uses five positions: one at the top, two in the middle, and two at the bottom. The verified arrangement is:
- Top: dark blue.
- Middle left: orange-red.
- Middle right: yellow-green.
- Bottom left: light blue or cyan.
- Bottom right: white.
Read the pattern by position, not by the order in which the torches were lit. The community description says the colors correspond to biome colors; the positional record removes the ambiguity that remains when two cold-looking blues are present. Dark blue belongs at the single top point, while the brighter cyan belongs at bottom left.
If the puzzle does not respond, stand far enough back to see all five flames at once. The most common visual mistake is swapping the two blues. Also distinguish the orange-red flame from the yellow-green one; brightness alone can be misleading against the surrounding environment.
Move the books from Table 1 to Table 3
The book riddle is a five-piece Tower of Hanoi. The starting stack is on the left table, the middle table is temporary space, and the destination is the right table. From smallest to largest, the pieces are Blue, Red, Green, Pink, Orange.
Only the top book of a stack can move. A larger book may never be placed on a smaller one. With five pieces, the shortest valid solve takes 31 moves; the following sequence was independently replayed as a legal Hanoi solution and ends with the full stack on Table 3.

Recover from a wrong book move without guessing
If your board no longer matches the row you are reading, stop. Identify the top book on every table and compare it with the expected state after the previous move. Do not continue from a different state while following the next numbered instruction.
If the puzzle permits reversing moves, retrace to the last known state. Otherwise leave and re-enter or reload only after preserving the save. Start again with Blue moving from Table 1 to Table 3. At move 16, Orange should move directly from the starting table to the destination; that midpoint is a useful audit. After move 31, Table 1 and Table 2 must both be empty, and Table 3 must show Orange at the bottom with Blue on top.
Confirm three solves, not one Steam popup
Riddle Master is defined on Steam as solving the book, torch, and pillar riddles. If the popup is delayed, inspect each world state before repeating actions:
- The pillar has accepted Magma Shard, Gold Ingot, Glass, and Grapes in their four verified sockets.
- The torch board shows the dark-blue top, orange-red middle-left, yellow-green middle-right, cyan bottom-left, and white bottom-right pattern.
- The books form one correctly ordered stack on the right table.
Do not rely on an old global completion percentage or assume a puzzle is broken because the Steam overlay is slow. Save after the in-game state changes, then reopen the achievement panel. If one riddle has reset after loading, solve that specific board again instead of disturbing the other completed layouts.
