Bills Must Be Paid Achievement Roadmap: 27 Unlocks in a Safe Order

Bills Must Be Paid hammer destroying three piggy banks in one crowded swing

The dangerous achievement is not the luck-based one. It is the one you try after erasing the build that could afford it. Bills Must Be Paid has 27 Steam achievements, but only a few need deliberate execution. Most bill, income, and smash milestones arrive during normal progression. The route can go wrong when a player declares bankruptcy before finishing the temporary Skill Tree and Shop, gambles with bill money, or leaves the post-credits save before checking the Collection book.

This roadmap is checked against the retail achievement list and Patch 1.1, posted August 16, 2026. The supplied 3:16:50 full-game recording was used to verify menu order, three completed cycles, the all-bills credits, continued play on the same save, and the final jewellery purchase after another bankruptcy. Its cycle count is an example, not a requirement. Income luck and permanent jewellery can move the same checkpoints into an earlier or later cycle.

If your current problem is surviving the first debt cycle rather than organizing the 27 unlocks, use the existing first-bankruptcy guide. This page starts at the achievement layer: what to isolate early, what to leave for natural progression, and what must be read back before a reset.

Build the roadmap around what bankruptcy removes

Do not force all 27 names into one chronological checklist. Sort them by persistence and failure cost:

Bucket Achievements Route decision
Clean execution Not a Single Miss; Twice as Precise; Strong Start; Multismasher Attempt these before speed, target health, and screen effects make the test harder to read.
Natural progression Rookie Smasher; Serial Smasher; Bills Must Be Paid; One Step at a Time; Making Progress; Keeping Up; Better than Nothing; High Roller; Five Figures; The Richest Broke Person; Fresh Start Track them, but do not distort a healthy build to farm them.
Side systems 50/50; All or Nothing; Super Jackpot; Take a Loan; Pay Back a Loan; Eyes on the Piggy Use disposable cash and finish any debt transaction before resetting.
Completion locks Piggy Bank Collector; Coin Collector; Freedom; Bought It All; Prestige Jewelry; Maxed Out Audit these around the last bill, post-credits play, and the final planned bankruptcy.

That table accounts for every current Steam achievement. It also exposes the real dependency chain: Freedom opens the end-of-bills state; that profitable state is the safe place to finish Bought It All and Maxed Out; a later bankruptcy opens the jewellery screen needed for Prestige Jewelry. Reversing those last two steps destroys temporary earning power before it has paid for the temporary completion checks.

Reserve two accurate runs before the desk becomes noisy

Not a Single Miss requires one run at 100% accuracy. Twice as Precise extends that test across two runs in a row. Treat them as one uninterrupted appointment:

  1. Start with a slow, familiar hammer and a small group of weak piggies.
  2. Place every swing through a visible target. If a piggy moves out of line, wait; time pressure is less dangerous than an empty swing.
  3. At the Tired Hand screen, require an explicit 100% readback. Do not assume that a clean-looking run counted.
  4. Press Continue without changing to a faster or wider build, then repeat the same discipline once.
  5. Only after the second result screen should you resume ordinary speed, spawning, or active-effect upgrades.

A miss in the first run means restart the pair. A miss in the second means the first result may still have awarded Not a Single Miss, but the two-run chain must begin again. The achievement text does not demand Cycle 1; early placement is simply safer because fewer targets, lower speed, and fewer automatic effects make the accuracy number easier to control.

Use opening-hit achievements as a separate damage test

Strong Start asks the first hit of a run to destroy two piggies. Multismasher asks one action to destroy three at once. They can share a setup, but they measure simultaneous kills rather than accuracy over a full run.

Choose a common piggy your current hammer can finish in one hit. Allow two or three of those weak targets to occupy the same arc, keep the cursor off the table until the group settles, and make the first committed swing cross the whole cluster. If only one breaks, damage or overlap is short. If two break and one survives, Strong Start can succeed while Multismasher still needs a better cluster or a slightly stronger hit. If an automatic rock, shockwave, or other effect fires first, the result is harder to attribute; return to a simpler opening rather than guessing which hit the game counted.

Do not buy a permanent-looking damage chain solely for this checkpoint. The useful signal is the break count on a known weak target. Once both achievements register, the normal build can prioritize income and bill depth again.

Let eleven milestone achievements follow the main economy

The natural group is a progress meter, not a set of side quests:

  • Rookie Smasher and Serial Smasher arrive at 10 and 100 destroyed piggies.
  • Bills Must Be Paid, One Step at a Time, Making Progress, and Keeping Up track the first, fifth, tenth, and twentieth paid bills.
  • Better than Nothing, High Roller, and Five Figures require a single run to reach $100, $1,000, and $10,000.
  • The Richest Broke Person checks that the wallet holds $1,000,000 at one time.
  • Fresh Start arrives when you declare bankruptcy and enter a new cycle.

Do not spend down the wallet at $990,000 merely to buy an upgrade that can wait one result screen. Conversely, do not preserve a weak build for hours because the one-million checkpoint is still far away. The run-income achievements and the million-dollar wallet are products of the same stronger economy needed for late Skill Tree and Shop purchases. A route that pays bills and reaches new piggy tiers will generate those thresholds without a special farming cycle.

Gambling achievements use disposable cash, not a rescue fund

The three gambling checks have different success conditions:

  • 50/50 needs a winning coin flip.
  • All or Nothing records an all-in gamble; the public achievement text does not say that the all-in bet must win.
  • Super Jackpot needs the named jackpot event once.

Patch 1.1 changed Double or Nothing: right-click, or R1 on a controller, can turn the coin before the toss. The developer also states that this cannot make the underlying chance fair in a deterministic sense. The same patch clarifies that Luck affects piggy loot quality, not gambling odds. Turning the coin is therefore an input choice, not a prediction method; buying Luck is not a way to guarantee 50/50.

Set a stop line before entering the gamble. Cash already assigned to the next bill, a same-cycle loan repayment, or a known final Shop purchase is unavailable. Use only the remainder. For All or Nothing, clear urgent bills first and accept that a loss can erase the stake. For Super Jackpot, keep taking ordinary profitable runs and attempt the event when its cost cannot collapse the cycle. No fixed number of attempts is promised.

Piggy Shuffle must be tracked without the old wobble tell

Bills Must Be Paid Piggy Shuffle screen with three green piggies and the wager control
Eyes on the Piggy requires a correct pick. Start with a stake the cycle can lose and track one shell through the whole shuffle.

Eyes on the Piggy is the one Piggy Shuffle checkpoint: select the piggy that hides the prize after the movement ends. A launch-version shortcut based on idle wobble is obsolete. Patch 1.1 explicitly removes the tell.

Reduce the problem to one visual task. Center the three piggies, select the smallest practical wager, lock attention on the marked target before motion begins, and follow that single position instead of trying to memorize every swap. Do not click until all movement stops. If the animation becomes hard to follow, reduce motion clutter in the current settings and lower the wager; do not convert a visibility problem into an expensive guess.

A wrong selection costs money but does not invalidate other achievements. Return when the stake is disposable. The supplied completion recording reaches Piggy Shuffle during a stronger middle cycle, which is a useful readiness signal, not a mandatory unlock time.

Make Big Toni one closed transaction inside a strong cycle

Take a Loan triggers when you accept Big Toni’s offer. Pay Back a Loan requires the money to be returned. Treat the pair as one transaction with a readback, not two unrelated achievements.

  1. Open the current bill and phone interface and read the live offer, due state, and repayment control.
  2. Accept only when the existing build can continue producing after the borrowed cash is spent.
  3. Use the loan on a breakpoint with a visible return, not on Piggy Shuffle or Double or Nothing.
  4. Repay as soon as the control allows it and verify that the loan state disappears before declaring bankruptcy.

The full-run reference shows Big Toni during a high-income later cycle, but its displayed amount is not promoted into a universal rule. The current phone and bill are the authority. If repayment is still open, the cycle is not ready to reset, even if Fresh Start and other bankruptcy achievements have already unlocked.

Use three menus as the late-game audit board

The completion group is easier when each menu answers one yes-or-no question:

Menu Achievement Required readback before the final reset
Piggies Piggy Bank Collector Every piggy is unlocked. The achievement does not require every piggy to reach a maximum level.
Collection Coin Collector Every coin slot in the book is filled. Select missing effects after bills instead of repeatedly taking a familiar duplicate.
Shop Bought It All Every listed hammer and gadget shows Owned rather than a price.
Skill Tree Maxed Out Every upgrade node in the current tree is purchased; no connected branch remains dark or priced.
Bills Must Be Paid Collection book with filled and empty coin slots
The Collection book is a better cleanup list than memory. Empty sockets identify the remaining coin effects without inventing a fixed drop order.

Coin offers can depend on bill progress and the choices already taken, so this guide does not publish a guaranteed offer sequence. Read the book, note the empty sockets, and choose a missing coin when the bill reward presents one. Similarly, Piggy Bank Collector is about unlocks. Leveling every piggy is extra progress, not part of the current achievement requirement.

Pay the final bill, then keep the profitable save alive

Freedom unlocks when every bill has been paid. In the verified full-run recording, paying the last bill starts the completion dialogue and credits, then returns to the same developed save where smashing and menu cleanup can continue. That is the safest point to resolve expensive temporary objectives.

Before signing another bankruptcy form, run this audit:

  • Steam shows Freedom and every earlier execution, loan, gamble, and Piggy Shuffle achievement.
  • The Piggies menu has no locked silhouette.
  • The Collection book has no empty coin socket.
  • The Shop has no remaining price.
  • The Skill Tree has no unbought upgrade.
Bills Must Be Paid Shop with owned items and remaining priced hammers and gadgets
Buy every priced Shop item while the post-credits build can still earn. Bankruptcy removes the temporary economy that makes this cleanup cheap.

If Bought It All or Maxed Out is missing, keep earning after the credits and buy the remaining entries now. Declaring bankruptcy first turns an easy post-game purchase into another rebuild. This is the most important route boundary in the entire achievement set.

Prestige Jewelry is the last planned bankruptcy checkpoint

Prestige Jewelry asks for every ring and bracelet. Those permanent pieces are bought on the jewellery screen reached after bankruptcy. That places the achievement after the temporary Shop and Skill Tree audit, not before it.

When all other readbacks are clean, declare bankruptcy, open the jewellery case, and purchase every remaining ring and bracelet. Do not infer completion from having unused Prestige Points; require every slot to show its owned state and confirm the Steam achievement. The supplied recording follows this sequence after the all-bills credits, then reaches a Start Cycle 4 button. That button proves the example used three completed cycles before the final jewellery screen. It does not mean every player must begin a fourth cycle or finish within exactly three.

If Prestige Jewelry remains locked, the failure is now narrow: either a case slot is still unowned, the achievement client has not synchronized, or the current save needs to return to the jewellery screen. Do not erase another cycle until the case and Steam list have both been read back.

The 27-achievement finish state

A reliable 100% file ends with four kinds of proof: both accuracy runs were recorded, every deliberate side-system action was closed, the four completion menus were cleared while the strong build still existed, and the final jewellery case was completed after the planned bankruptcy. The number printed beside Cycle is not part of that proof.

Current-version boundary: Patch 1.1 adds three save slots, changes Double or Nothing input, removes the Piggy Shuffle wobble tell, clarifies Luck, and raises the prices of two late Skill Tree nodes. Use the current client for prices, node layout, offer text, and button labels. The roadmap fixes dependencies and readbacks; it does not freeze volatile costs, odds, or an exact cycle count.
