A statue route fails before the first throw if you have not chosen the hardest target. Each hit lights one socket for only a short window, so walking around the statue in catalogue order wastes the timer. Find all three boards, place a return flag, hit the remote board first, teleport, then close the two local shots and interact before leaving.
This guide covers the supported launch-era character branches: six three-target statues, five repeat-action skins, the fishing-hole seal, and the Supporter Pack frog. A May guide calls the resulting roster 16 characters including three starters, while the August Steam listing deliberately says only “12+ playable characters.” The article therefore names verified unlock branches without claiming that 16 is a permanent current cap.
Any one new skin should also satisfy New Look. The achievement route explains how to prove that Steam tracked it; this page stays on the character trigger and chest readback.
Read a target statue as a timed circuit
The relevant statue has three empty sockets on its front. Hitting a linked snowball target lights one socket for roughly 15 seconds in the launch references. A later hit refreshes the practical window for the next shot, but a light can expire before the circuit is complete. When all three remain lit together, approach the statue and use the interaction prompt to claim the skin.
- Walk a full circle around the statue without throwing.
- Locate all three targets and decide which is farthest, below a ledge, or hidden by an arch.
- Place a flag beside the statue, not beside the first target.
- Move to the hardest target and rehearse the aim once without starting the chain if possible.
- Hit the hard target, teleport to the flag, then take the two short shots.
- Require three lit sockets and the interaction prompt.
- Open a cosmetics chest after the popup; the owned skin is the persistence proof.
With friends, assign one target to each thrower and let the player at the statue call the lights. Without friends, flag routing is more reliable than sprinting. If a target will not register, close distance and require the public bullseye or hit feedback before blaming the timer.
Polar Bear starts at the southwest lift
Take the ski lift in the lower-left or southwestern part of the map to its top. Turn right and descend toward the rectangular stone scene showing a bear and frog reaching toward each other. This distinctive two-figure sculpture is a better landmark than compass language.
One target is far across a gulley to the northwest, one is uphill near the lift end, and one is downhill to the northeast. Community routes agree that the cross-gulley shot should go first. Stand on the sculpture edge, fully charge the throw, and aim high enough to compensate for distance. After it registers, use the statue flag and close the nearer right and upper targets.
If full-power attempts miss repeatedly, do not start the timed chain. Adjust the aim in small steps around the tree-height reference until the distant board visibly reacts. Only then reset at the statue and perform the three-hit sequence.
Black Bear is the ridge-drop circuit
Ride the upper ridge lift and watch below around the middle of its route for a bear statue on a hill. Set a flag before dropping; one launch guide notes that a bad fall can return the player to the lodge. The three targets sit near the statue, downhill to the north, and uphill to the south or southwest.
These targets are all within useful throwing range, so order is flexible. Use the one that requires the largest elevation change first, return to the hilltop flag, then take the visible local board and the remaining uphill or downhill board. If the statue has two lights but the third seems missing, scan the slope faces rather than the skyline; a target can blend into snow when viewed edge-on.
Fox teaches the flag-first method
Leave the lodge on the far-right lift toward the freestyle or skate-park slope. Near the top, a target appears on the right. Walk past it, continuing uphill into the trees, to find the fox statue. That first board is the downhill target; a second sits left or west from the statue, and the third is immediately beside it.
Plant the flag at the statue. Return to the downhill target and hit it first, teleport back, then take the west board and the point-blank board. The exact numbering differs between sources, but the decision does not: remote first, local last. After all three sockets glow, interact and verify the normal Fox in a chest.
The Arctic Fox branch uses this normal Fox later, so do not judge success only from New Look. Equip the claimed Fox and confirm its name before starting the repetition counter.
Panda uses the arch as both landmark and obstacle
Take the upper central lift from near the toad area. Near its end, look right for the bear statue positioned on a stone arch. One target sits below the lift path, another underneath the arch, and a third is uphill to the south or southeast. This is the statue most improved by a second player because the arch separates lines of sight.
For solo play, place a flag beside the uphill target if that position lets you hit it reliably, then scout the under-arch route before starting. A readable route instead places the return point at the statue and closes the remote target first. Either can work; choose the flag that removes the longest travel from the timed section.
A safe sequence is far hillside, teleport, under-arch board, then the board near the lift. If the final light appears but the statue cannot be reached in time, reverse the last two so the final throw finishes closest to the interaction point.
Light Seal requires vertical recovery
From the tallest peak, descend the eastern slope and look for a seal statue raised like a monument on a tall plinth. Reaching the top consumes more time than the throws, so bring a trampoline, climb before starting, and leave a flag at the statue.
The supported layout has one board behind the statue, one higher on a southern rock wall, and one far down the northern hill or cliff. Drop to the low target first, hit it, teleport back, then take the rock-wall and behind-statue targets. If the low board can be seen from the plinth in your build, test the shot before descending; do not assume the visual line is within snowball range.
Community sources call the result Light Seal or Pale Seal. Use the live chest name. The later race-count branch starts from Dark Seal, not this statue reward.
Dark Toad sits west of the central cannon
Ride the lower central lift from the lodge. At the top, find the Cannon of Peril on the left, then look one hill west for the toad statue. The three boards are far down the western hill toward another lift, downhill to the north on the side of a stone arch, and back toward the lift you used.
The far-west board is the timing risk. Hit it first and teleport to a statue flag. The arch-side target is the next awkward angle; take it second, then finish with the board toward the lift. Interact as soon as all sockets stay lit. Do not confuse this with the frog statue inside the lodge, whose three targets are scattered across the map and unlock a cosmetic rather than this character branch.
Four repeat skins are equipment-specific counters
| Equipped base | Supported action | Launch-reference count | Readback |
|---|---|---|---|
| Base green Frog | Bounce repeatedly on a trampoline. | References conflict: 50 in one guide, 100 in another. | Check after 50; continue to 100 only if absent. |
| Base green Frog | Hit another player with snowballs. | 100 hits. | Poison Frog skin in the chest. |
| Normal Fox | Land upside down or fall off the sled repeatedly. | 50 counted falls. | Arctic Fox skin in the chest. |
| Dark Seal | Win races with another player present. | 20 wins. | Mixed or Duotone Seal in the chest. |
| Dark Toad | Board and immediately leave a ski lift. | 30 cycles. | Light, White, or Orange Toad name in the current chest. |
Equip the required base before the first repetition and do not switch skins midway. The frog conflict is a reason to use staged readback, not to invent a compromise such as 75. A tent or igloo over the trampoline keeps the frog from bouncing away; count landings, not button presses. For snowballs, have a consenting player stand where impacts do not launch them down the slope.
For Arctic Fox, place a flag above a small controlled lip, mount while pulling back, flip, dismount, teleport, and repeat. Count only clear upside-down contacts. For the seal races, a second participant must be present; altered speed settings may advance the cosmetic counter without awarding points, so return to a normal lobby for any achievement finish. For the toad, use the shortest lodge lift and count successful board-and-leave cycles, not attempts where the prompt failed.
Dark Seal is hidden in a fishing hole
Climb to the high central mountain near the red race start. North of the red arch are two fishing holes; use the one closest to the rock wall. Jump into it and press the interaction control while inside. One reference uses the name Black Seal and another Dark Seal. The location and the follow-up race branch align, so the current chest name is the deciding evidence.
If interaction does not appear, exit the hole, rotate the camera toward its inner wall, and re-enter on foot. Verify that you are at the high-mountain pair rather than the three starter holes near the lodge. After claiming the seal, equip it before beginning the 20-win branch.
Golden Frog is a purchase, not a hidden route
Golden Frog is tied to the official Sledding Game Supporter Pack. Do not describe it as a world secret or promise that ordinary play unlocks it. Players who own the pack should verify the entitlement in Steam, restart the game, and check the chest. Players who do not own it can still complete the exploration and repeat-action branches above.
This paid branch is intentionally separate from the 13 launch-era unlock descriptions. A product entitlement can change availability, regional store behavior, or bundle packaging without changing the mountain routes.
Diagnose a missing skin from the last observable state
- No statue lights: the board is unrelated, out of range, or the snowball did not register.
- One or two lights expire: reorder the hardest target first or add a return flag.
- Three lights, no prompt: move to the front socket panel and aim at the statue, not the target.
- Popup, no chest entry: change chest, return to the lodge, then restart and check again before repeating the puzzle.
- Repeat count does nothing: confirm the required base skin remained equipped and the action produced its normal feedback.
- Guide name is absent: compare appearance and prerequisite chain; launch sources disagree on several display names.
Early Access boundary: the official store promises additional cosmetics and says existing elements may expand before full release. Preserve the location, prerequisite, visible light, and chest readback as the durable route. Treat exact roster totals, color names, and repetition counts as live-client checks when sources conflict.
