A damaged parcel is a blocked job, not rubbish and not ordinary mail. Quarantine it, identify what caused the damage, clear enough of the main backlog to expose the Repair Workshop, then spend one of the three daily repairs on a parcel you can actually route safely afterward.
This guide is bounded to the August 24, 2026 client. Patch Note #5 fixed returned parcels becoming invisible or changing position, while Patch Notes #2 and #3 addressed old-demo pile and room-key progression problems. The save-editing workaround in one supplied Steam guide is therefore excluded from the normal repair route.
Confirm damage before spending a repair
A damaged package looks darker, rougher, wetter, or more dented than its clean model. Inspect every side under good light. Decorative scratches or bite marks mentioned in customer descriptions can resemble damage, so also check whether the box still handles normally and whether it was recently exposed to a known source of damage.
The high-confidence causes are observable:
- the parcel fell into the water;
- a heavy parcel remained above other mail through the next shift;
- another parcel remained on top of a fragile one;
- a cold, hot, dark, or light parcel missed its required room at the relevant shift boundary;
- a returned parcel came back visibly rough and needs a condition check before resending.
If the box merely has the customer’s described claw or crocodile mark and otherwise behaves normally, do not repair it just to make the mark disappear. That marking may be the clue that identifies its recipient.
Build a quarantine lane before the workshop exists
Put damaged parcels in one visible holding area with their destinations and constraints facing outward. Do not mix them with the outgoing boat load, where a rushed loader might resend them. Do not bury them in the main pile either, because they will interfere with the backlog work that unlocks the solution.
If a customer requests a damaged package before repair is available, decline the handoff rather than knowingly delivering it. A readable repair guide reports that the request cycles back later. Use the intervening shifts to keep reducing the main parcel pile and to prevent the quarantine lane from expanding.
The workshop door is a pile checkpoint
The Repair Workshop is behind the large parcel pile near the scanner. Pull and sort the available parcels from that pile across successive shifts. The pile recedes in stages and eventually reveals the doorway; there is no verified purchase, code, or exact recipient count that bypasses that progression.
A box can remain hidden inside the pile even when its model is difficult to see. Move the cursor across every reachable surface and watch for the pickup prompt before deciding that no parcels remain. Continue making normal departures as you work, because pile progression and postal progression are linked; do not wait beside the wall for a key that your current progress has not earned.
Old demo saves had documented pile and dark/light key faults around launch. Official Patch Notes #2 and #3 say the main-pile spawn and old-demo key cases were fixed. If a current save still shows no pile change across multiple successful shifts, back up the save and verify the patch before considering debug tools. This article does not instruct database editing or deleting progression rows.
Repair one parcel at the workbench
- Carry a confirmed damaged parcel into the workshop.
- Place it in the empty work area on the repair bench.
- Click one of the unfolded cardboard boxes beside the work area.
- Wait for the damaged model to be replaced by a clean box.
- Inspect the new parcel before returning it to storage.
The clean model is the repair proof. Do not count placing the parcel on the bench, hearing the interaction, or entering the room as success. The first completed repair should also unlock As good as new; verify the Steam popup or achievement page if that is the reason for the repair.
Three repairs per shift makes priority matter
The workshop has three unfolded replacement boxes per shift, so you can repair at most three parcels before the next reset. Prioritize them by how soon they can be delivered rather than by which box is closest:
| Priority | Repair now | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Damaged parcel for the captain’s current destinations | It can leave immediately after a successful re-check |
| 2 | Requested Cats Island pickup | It can complete an active delivery and advance the shift |
| 3 | Damaged special-room parcel at risk of repeat damage | It needs enough time to return to safe storage |
| Hold | Parcel for an absent route or an unclear job | A scarce repair would not make it actionable yet |
When capacity is exhausted, stop clicking and leave remaining mail in quarantine. The workshop is a limited recovery system, not permission to throw parcels into water or ignore room constraints.
A repaired box must re-enter every unsolved rule
Repair removes the damaged condition; it does not prove the parcel’s destination, postage, partner, curse, or storage requirement. After the model changes:
- read the destination and existing stamps again;
- re-scan when the parcel’s constraint state is unclear;
- return cold, hot, dark, or light mail to its room;
- restore heavy-low or fragile-clear placement;
- reunite a lover parcel with its partner before loading;
- move it to destination staging only after every condition is satisfied.
If the same parcel returns damaged again, compare its path before spending a second repair. Repeat water damage points to handling. Repeat room damage points to storage timing. Repeat stack damage points to shelf geometry. A wrong-route return with a clean model is a routing failure, not another workshop job.
A repair is complete only when the parcel is safe again
The process is complete when the workshop produces a clean replacement, the parcel passes its constraint and destination checks, it is placed in the correct safe zone, and the repair count stays within the shift’s three-box limit. Anything less has merely moved the problem elsewhere.
Cat Mail Co. on Steam is the official AppID 4380490 identity and media record. The unlock path, workbench interaction, and three-per-shift limit are independently consistent across a dedicated editorial repair guide and a current Steam mechanics guide. The package constraint guide covers the cold, hot, dark, light, heavy, fragile, lover, and cursed rules that prevent a clean replacement from being damaged again.
