Staffer Retro Act 5 Walkthrough: Hideout and Moonlight

Staffer Retro sunset investigation scene connected to the Act 5 Moonlight route

Act 5 has one verified source conflict worth knowing about. Two readable launch-era walkthroughs swap the second and third footprint coordinates, and they also disagree on the order of the two mana-release slots. Team Tetrapod later confirmed that v1.1.4 corrected one Act 5 location coordinate. To avoid a bad guess, stick to the small set of candidates below, follow the current client’s trail markers and landmark names, and swap only the paired fields when the game rejects an answer.

Complete the witness loop before opening the trace map

Visit the locations in the order the objective enables them: Portia Accounting, Henry Shipping, Torlen’s lab, the Professor’s residence, Bucciferro Residence, then Portia Accounting again. These visits update the trace and shipping documents. Opening the map after only the first Portia visit produces missing fields that look like a coordinate puzzle but are actually an evidence gap.

After the second visit to Portia, discuss the trace map with Brian. All three footprint fields should now be available. The launch references agree on the three candidate squares—E3, D3, and B2—but disagree on whether D3 or B2 belongs in Footprint 2.

Resolve the footprint conflict without restarting the act

Use a constrained test instead of guessing across the whole map:

  1. Place E3 in Footprint 1; both references agree on this field.
  2. For Footprints 2 and 3, follow the current client’s visible trail order. The only disputed pair is D3 versus B2.
  3. If the document rejects one paired placement, exchange those two values. Do not change E3 and do not introduce a fourth coordinate.
  4. Accept the set only when the objective advances to the observation deck.

This method still works after the documented coordinate correction. It does not claim to know which launch-era field Team Tetrapod changed, and it keeps you from replacing three well-supported candidates with unrelated squares.

Use named landmarks around the observation deck

Explore the observation deck and discuss traces of mana with Wotan. For the three directional fields, work from landmark identity first:

Direction Stable landmark Launch-reference grid label
South Port / pier C5 in the English launch guide
East The east-side trace D3 in both readable references
West Train station A2 in the English launch guide

If the current map text presents the landmark and coordinate differently, select the landmark that matches the direction. Version 1.1.4 is explicit that one location coordinate was corrected; a named port or train station is a safer invariant than a launch-week cell label.

Fill the two past-release slots as a pair

Discuss past mana releases. The two evidence items are stable even though the slot order conflicts between references:

  • Today’s Newspaper: the passenger cruise / ferry event.
  • Henry Shipping Routes: the D4 location.

Insert both items. If the task labels the fields Incident 1 and Incident 2 and rejects one placement, swap the two sources between them. Do not search for another newspaper event. Submit Blueprints: Fabric only after both answers are accepted.

Turn six visits into one trace commonality

Explore Verita’s room, then open Trace commonality. Choose Route B from Henry Shipping Routes. Route B is the common link between the separate traces; the chapter is not asking which witness visited the most locations.

Build RESTORY as a survival chain:

  1. Idel’s Fabric reaches the Mafia.
  2. During Public Order and Civility Day, the Bureau destroys the Mafia.
  3. The Shylock family survives.
  4. They survive by using a hideout.
  5. That hideout is Henry Shipping.

The order matters because the later Dark Side challenges the hideout’s special use. If Henry Shipping is inserted before the surviving family is established, the story names a building without explaining why anyone needed it.

Challenge the drawer file, then rebuild Route B as a mechanism

In Retro, oppose the hideout’s special usage field with the drawer Bureau file’s pheno-mana description. Discuss Trucker Daddy and his current location, then choose the urgency option equivalent to There is no time.

In the revised story, make the hideout Route B. The hideout document then needs a method, not another location list:

  • How to enter: B2 on the Saint Agatha trace map.
  • How to exit: Fabric blueprint, Rule: Aggregate.
  • Rule to break the trap: Rule: Destruction.
  • Final document to submit: The Dark Side of the Moon.

Aggregate and Destruction solve different parts of the problem. Aggregate explains how the Fabric layers create an exit; Destruction explains how to end the current situation. Reversing them can make the document look complete while Retro still refuses the conclusion.

Confirm the clear state before moving to the epilogue

RETRO SOLVED followed by Moonlight verifies the Act 5 true ending. New beginnings unlocks when the Epilogue becomes available. If Moonlight appears but New beginnings does not, check that the first three acts were solved on the retail save and that Act 4 reached Idel’s apartment.

If a prerequisite is missing, work through the Act 4 Vano and Idel walkthrough. Once New beginnings appears, use the Epilogue and missable-achievement route before making the final deductions.

How to use this route on the current patch

Part 14 of the supplied local recording visually confirms the Act 5 document flow, hideout chain, and Moonlight transition, but it predates official v1.1.4. The two readable community guides remain separate because their evidence conflicts. Team Tetrapod’s v1.1.4 note confirms that one coordinate changed, but the corrected field is not publicly identified, so the current client’s landmarks and in-game result remain the final check.
