Divine Light is not a normal projectile, and firing as soon as the column appears is the fastest way to waste it. Give every cast one job before you press the attack input: seal an exit, catch a locked interaction, or turn a survivor into a Heretic you can pressure later. The Judgment becomes much easier to read when the cast, Heresy, Exile, and Zealous states form one deliberate sequence instead of four unrelated mechanics.
This guide uses the August 25, 2026 Chorus of Sin release as its boundary. Dead by Daylight changes quickly, and the public 10.1.0 notes were written for the test build. Use the installed Power Showcase, match-details panel, and perk descriptions as the final readback for later balance changes. The decisions below do not depend on a permanent tier ranking, an add-on list, or a single launch-day number.
Read Divine Light as a steering problem with a commitment point
Holding the Power input starts a controlled column that travels away from The Judgment and follows horizontal camera movement. That visible control phase does not injure anyone. The damaging event happens only when you commit with the attack input, after a short delay. If you cancel or let the control window expire, the power enters cooldown without doing the job you intended.
That distinction creates a useful mental model:
- Choose the survivor’s required lane. A window approach, the outside edge of a pallet, a doorway, and the gap between two rocks are lanes. Open ground with three equal exits is not.
- Steer the harmless preview onto that lane. Watch the survivor and the terrain together. If the column is following their current body instead of their next mandatory space, it is probably late already.
- Commit after their alternative disappears. The clean moment is when a vault, corner, dropped pallet, heal, rescue, or generator touch has reduced their choices.
- Abandon a dead cast. If the survivor reaches hard cover with two new exits, cancel the idea and keep chase distance. Spending more camera movement cannot repair a lane that no longer exists.
The launch build also introduced control settings dedicated to The Judgment. Before judging the power itself, open the current General or Beta control section and check its sensitivity. Run the same camera correction in a quiet first chase. If the column repeatedly passes the same side of the target, change sensitivity once and retest; do not change sensitivity, add-ons, and camera technique in the same match.
Put the column on the exit, not on the survivor
A survivor can react to the bright preview. Your answer is not to steer faster; it is to make their reaction expensive. Approach a tile so that your body threatens one route and Divine Light occupies the other. At a doorway, place the column just beyond the threshold rather than across the survivor’s current feet. At a pallet, decide if the job is punishing the drop animation or denying the continuation beyond it. Trying to do both usually places the beam between two useful locations.
| Situation | Useful cast job | Abort signal |
|---|---|---|
| Survivor runs toward a single window | Place the column beyond the landing side and commit when the vault begins | They leave the approach early and gain a second route |
| Pallet is still standing | Cover the continuation they need after dropping it | Your body no longer threatens the other side |
| Generator or Shrine interaction | Use the locked animation as the commitment point | You cannot see the exit lane around nearby cover |
| Open ground | Delay the cast until pathing compresses near terrain | The target retains several equal changes of direction |
After a miss, name the error precisely. “Aim was bad” is not a diagnosis. Was the preview behind the route, did the survivor leave before commitment, did a wall break line of sight, or did you press attack before the column reached the lane? Each answer points to a different correction.
Heresy matters only when it changes your next decision
A Divine Light hit both damages the survivor and applies Heresy. The launch rules also allow survivors to acquire Heresy by taunting. A Heretic receives special generator Skill Checks; a merely Good result can cost progress, so the affliction creates pressure even after the chase ends. It also unlocks The Judgment’s real fork: a downed Heretic may be sent to Exile instead of handled as an ordinary hook.
Do not turn the Heretic icon into tunnel vision. The useful question is: what can this state buy before it is cleansed? If the marked survivor reaches a very strong tile while another survivor is displaced from a nearly finished generator, the generator is often the better target. If the Heretic is injured, entering a constrained route, and still far from a Shrine, the state is ready to convert.
When you do Exile someone, the release rules briefly reveal other full Heretics through Killer Instinct. Read that information before moving. It can tell you whether to defend the damaged generator, interrupt a repentance attempt, or start a fresh chase. Chasing the closest icon automatically throws away the strategic value of the reveal.
Choose Exile for tempo rather than spectacle
Exile advances the survivor’s hook state, but it is not an ordinary hook. The official test-build notes explicitly separate it from hook-related perk triggers. If your loadout needs a normal hook event, confirm the current perk interaction before giving that event up. The correct choice depends on the match, not on whether Exile is available.
Exile is strongest when it forces two separate survivor jobs. The prisoner must navigate Seeds of Punishment while using the Searcher’s Pendant to collect Exiled Souls. Outside, teammates must reach an active Shrine of Judgment to liberate them. The two Shrines closest to The Judgment activate at the moment of Exile, so your position influences where the rescue problem appears.
Before pressing the Exile input, read three things:
- Objective state: if two survivors are already repairing a critical generator, sending one player away may create more pressure than carrying to a distant hook.
- Your build contract: a perk that requires a hook state may still work, while one that requires an actual hook interaction may not. Read the installed wording and verify the icon.
- Your next route: know which generator, Heretic reveal, or tile you will contest after the animation. Remaining beside a Shrine wastes the global split you just created.
A survivor on the final hook stage can be killed through the Heretic interaction under the release rules. Treat that as a verified state check, not a reason to guess at hook history. The split hook timer and survivor portrait are the readbacks that matter.
Spend Zealous on the next chase, not on Shrine camping
Sending a survivor to Exile activates Zealous and strengthens Divine Light. The public release descriptions promise a more powerful cast; the test-build notes describe a wider column, a shorter cooldown, and retained steering after commitment. Exact timings have already differed between public references, so the current HUD and Power Showcase outrank any frozen launch number.
The practical route is stable even if those values change:
- Read the Killer Instinct reveal produced by Exile.
- Select one reachable target or objective before moving.
- Use the first enhanced cast at a constrained route instead of throwing it across open ground.
- If the survivor breaks toward an inactive side of the map, protect the more valuable generator and let Zealous improve your next cast there.
Camping an active Shrine asks the other survivors to stay on generators. Leaving with a clear destination asks them to choose between repairing, cleansing Heresy, and rescuing. The second problem is harder, even though you are farther from the prisoner.
Give each of The Judgment’s perks one measurable job
The three character perks do not form a mandatory “best build.” They answer different problems and should be tested separately before you combine them.
- Celestial Witness is remote information. Its Obsession check rewards knowing what you will do with a distant aura. Use it to choose a patrol lane or abandon a low-value chase; an aura that does not change movement is not value.
- Hex: Under Your Thumb is Haste control. It activates through the first hook-state event and constrains running survivors who gain Haste while the Hex survives. Watch for the perk icon and the relevant movement burst instead of assuming every fast survivor triggered it.
- Lay Waste is a regression decision. It rewards damaging a generator with meaningful stored progress. Kicking an almost empty generator because the perk is ready spends the cooldown on very little. Compare the generator’s visible progress, the nearby survivor route, and whether you can defend the regression.
If a trial fails, keep the diagnosis tied to the job. No useful Celestial Witness read means your patrol decision was late. A cleansed Hex means you need a plan that survives its loss. Low Lay Waste value means the kicks were poorly selected, not necessarily that every regression build is wrong.
Run the first four trials as controlled exercises
Trial one is a lane test. Ignore elaborate add-on combinations. Record whether your misses pass ahead of or behind the required exit. Trial two is a Heresy conversion test. After the first hit, decide in advance whether you will disengage, continue to a down, or protect an objective. Trial three is an Exile route test. Name your next destination before sending the survivor away, then see whether the reveal changes that destination. Trial four is a Zealous test. Spend the first empowered cast only at a window, pallet continuation, doorway, or locked interaction.
One repeated mistake is more useful than four unrelated successes. If every miss happens after too much preview steering, shorten the control phase. If hits occur but no objective pressure follows, work on the decision after Heresy. If Exile produces rescues with no cost, your post-Exile route is the weak link.
See the power inside Chorus of Sin’s story
Pixel Bush’s release-day video is a lore-led deep dive, not a frame-data source. The supplied local file was independently matched through YouTube ID imIEpxADhGM; Pixel Bush published it as Chorus of Sin: The Fear of God. The match footage is useful for seeing Divine Light, Exile imagery, and the relationship between The Judgment and Aurora; current in-game descriptions remain the authority for mechanics.
Keep the two roles separate when you study the matchup
This article is the Killer-side control loop. The survivor-side task has different inputs: reading the harmless preview, deciding when Heresy is urgent, using the Pendant inside Exile, and timing an active Shrine rescue. Use the The Judgment counter guide when you want to rehearse those responses without mixing them into Killer execution.
The chapter identity, August 25 release, high-level power, character perks, and official screenshots were checked against the official Steam DLC page and Behaviour’s The Judgment profile. Detailed release-day state transitions were cross-checked against the official 10.1.0 test-build notes and the current wiki revision dated August 25. Any later installed description wins over a number recorded at launch.
Your clean proof of improvement is not a four-kill result. It is one cast placed on a required lane, one Heresy state converted without tunnel vision, and one Exile followed by a named destination. When all three happen in the same trial, The Judgment’s systems have become one plan.
