Do not treat the Genesis Configuration as a fourth weapon. In Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival, the box answers different problems in different ways: it spends Suffering on combat powers, changes the shape of hostile architecture, and becomes a key only after a puzzle has supplied the right state. If Aidan is trapped, the first decision is not which power looks strongest. It is whether the room wants a kill, a route, a missing object, or a change in perspective.
This is a pre-release gameplay guide checked on September 2, 2026. The game is scheduled for October 8, so it does not promise final costs, cooldowns, map order, boss health, or achievement conditions. It turns the official Genesis Configuration rules, the developer’s puzzle demonstration, and a verified 14-minute gameplay segment into a decision method that can be checked again in the launch client.
Name the kind of obstruction before acting
The game deliberately lets supernatural geometry resemble a locked door and an enemy encounter resemble a chase. Watch what happens when an attempt fails to tell them apart. Repeating the same action with a different gun will not solve a room that is waiting for the world to change.
- The same rooms repeat, but small details move or distort
- Treat this as a reality loop. Stop pushing forward and test the direction you have been refusing to take.
- Chatterer repeatedly appears in front of the escape line
- Treat this as route discovery. The useful information is which corridor he does not intercept, not how much damage a weapon might deal.
- A wheel, walkway, or piece of impossible architecture reacts to the box
- Treat the Genesis Configuration as a geometry control. Watch the entire route move before stepping onto it.
- A statue or gate accepts an object but still refuses to open
- Treat it as a two-part key: restore the missing object, then put the box into the configuration that completes that gate.
- A safe, lock, or picture mechanism has a nearby diagram
- Treat it as optional survival-horror loot unless the journal says otherwise. The reward can fund the mandatory room without being the mandatory room.
- Cultists or Unworthy block a route and react to ordinary attacks
- Treat it as combat. Earthly weapons create the opening; executions create Suffering; the box converts that resource into a chosen power.
That classification also tells you when to stop. If a reversed path changes the house, do not keep inventory-scanning the old loop. If a missing hand returns a statue to a complete state, inspect the box and gate rather than searching for a fourth body part. If an enemy falls but the exit remains sealed, search for the room’s actual mechanism before spending another magazine.
Build Suffering with the hand that is not holding the box
The official combat rule has an order: banish enemies with executions to gather Suffering, then spend that resource through Genesis Configuration abilities. That makes the pistol, shotgun, and melee weapon more than parallel damage choices. They are the tools that create an execution opportunity while the box occupies the other hand.
On the documented PS5 layout, ordinary attacks and Genesis powers are dual-wielded on R2 and L1. Do not turn those platform labels into a universal PC or Xbox mapping; use them to understand the simultaneous design. The current HUD, tutorial reminder, and control menu should decide the button. The durable relationship is weapon in one hand, configuration in the other.
Run each normal engagement as a four-readback loop:
- Identify the body and the room. Note armor, exposed areas, usable fire, hanging or mounted hazards, cover, and the retreat door before attacking.
- Use the cheapest suitable earthly tool. Preserve the rare resource for the part of the encounter that cannot be solved by a controlled melee strike or a clean firearm shot.
- Confirm the execution, not merely the knockdown. The official announcement ties Suffering to executions. A staggered or fallen enemy is not enough evidence that the box has been funded.
- Spend on the room that remains. Choose the power whose required anchor is actually present, then check whether the target, hazard, or route changed.

If a Genesis ability is unavailable, do not assume the control failed. First ask whether the last enemy was actually executed and whether the current ability has something to act upon. Pre-release footage shows a resource-sensitive box, but it does not establish final costs or a permanent meter rate. Learn the cause-and-effect readback instead of memorizing a preview number.
Telekinesis needs a projectile the room already owns
The official examples for Telekinesis are saw blades and rail spikes. That is a targeting instruction disguised as a power description. Scan beyond the enemy model and locate the heavy, sharp, or mounted object that can be pulled into the attack. If the crosshair finds only furniture and bare walls, conserve Suffering or reposition until the intended hazard is visible.
Use the environment in this order: locate the object, clear its flight line, draw the enemy into that line, then trigger the power. Pulling too early can waste the best angle. Standing directly between the hazard and the target can also turn the setup into a panic dodge. The launch build may alter which props are valid, so require a live highlight, prompt, or visible reaction before betting the encounter on a decorative blade.
Pyrokinesis starts at the flame, not at the victim
Pyrokinesis absorbs incandescent fire and redirects it against foes or the environment. Before choosing it, find the source. A torch, open flame, or other clearly responsive fire is the first half of the action; the enemy or burnable obstruction is the second. If only the target is visible, keep looking rather than treating the ability as a free fireball.
The environmental use matters because a burning object may be the route answer rather than bonus damage. After releasing the power, watch two places: the enemy’s state and the space behind or beside it. If the enemy burns but the path stays unchanged, you solved combat. If material blocking the route ignites or clears, the room was also a puzzle. That distinction prevents an unnecessary second cast.
Hell Chains are the direct answer when no prop is trustworthy
Hell Chains do not depend on a named saw blade, rail spike, or flame source in the official description. That makes them the cleanest documented target-first power, but not automatically the most efficient one. Use them when a dangerous target must be removed and the room offers no reliable external anchor, or when taking time to line up a prop would expose Aidan to another attack.
Do not infer a launch-day tier list from a short trailer. No official source used here gives final damage, Suffering cost, unlock order, invulnerability window, or boss interaction for the three powers. The safe comparison is functional: Telekinesis converts a valid object, Pyrokinesis converts a fire source, and Hell Chains attack the chosen opponent directly.

Buy for the failure waiting beyond the gate
The verified IGN segment begins in a courtyard where Zora offers Pistol Ammo, Shotgun Ammo, weapon upgrades, Bandages, and a Medkit. It later shows a Bolt Cutters key item, separate Key Items, Crafting, Inventory, Map, and Journal tabs, and an on-screen reminder that food and drink restore a small amount of health slowly. Those details establish separate budgets and recovery speeds; they do not establish final shop prices.
Use the last failed attempt to shop:
- If a distant enemy survives because the gun empties, buy the ammunition for the weapon you actually carry. A shotgun shell does not repair a pistol route.
- If Aidan reaches the last phase but a damage spike ends the attempt, add a fast recovery item rather than another offensive upgrade.
- If ordinary enemies consume too many hits, compare the upgrade tied to that weapon before buying a second pile of ammunition.
- If exploration, not combat, is blocked, keep currency for the next proven need. The Bolt Cutters belong in Key Items and should be tested on metal obstructions, not treated as melee loot.
- If health is low but the room is quiet, use slow food or drink recovery before spending the stronger emergency option you may need under pressure.
The same footage’s Bruno encounter makes the risk visible without proving a final boss formula. The player rotates between pistol fire, a blunt melee weapon, movement around worktables, and healing while the enemy keeps closing space. The lesson is not a fixed ammunition count. It is to enter a sealed-looking room with one ranged plan, one close plan, and recovery that can be reached without rebuilding the inventory in front of the threat.
Complete the courtyard gate as an object-and-shape pair
The official puzzle demonstration places three main gates around one hub courtyard. Each gate is associated with a statue missing an item, including examples such as a tongue or a hand. Recovering the object is only the first confirmation. The Genesis Configuration must then be transformed into the correct shape to serve as that gate’s key.
Keep one short record for each branch:
- Name the gate by its statue and note the visibly absent object.
- Search the branch for an object prompt that matches the absence, not merely for a grotesque prop.
- Return the item and confirm the statue visibly accepts it.
- Manipulate the box only after that state changes.
- Watch the gate itself. A new box shape without a gate response means the pair is incomplete.
This keeps three branches from turning into one confused inventory search. A hand collected for one statue does not mean another gate is ready. A shape that opened the first gate is not a master key. If the launch client changes the branch order, matching each object and configuration to the gate still gives you a clear check whenever you return.

Let moving architecture finish before stepping onto it
One demonstrated Labyrinth puzzle makes the Genesis Configuration turn an enormous wheel, realigning narrow walkways inside a spike-filled chamber. The dangerous mistake is to watch only the nearest platform. A correct local rotation can still leave the far landing disconnected or point the return route into the hazard.
Stand on stable ground, trigger one transformation, and trace the result from Aidan’s feet to the destination. Check the near edge, the middle joint, the far landing, and a way back if the route does not auto-lock. Only cross after the whole chain is readable. If another rotation is needed, make it from the last stable platform rather than while balancing on a moving section.
Some later puzzles have multiple solutions, according to the developer, but the alternatives were intentionally not disclosed. Do not turn a single preview configuration into the only correct answer. Preserve the method: isolate one movable system, change it once, and read the complete path before committing.
Break a reality loop by contradicting its instruction
Near the start of the game, Aidan’s home begins repeating while photographs and other details become crooked or distorted. Continuing forward merely proves that the loop works. The demonstrated answer is to turn back, which changes the setting. When a familiar doorway returns you to a familiar room, stop counting laps and test the direction the environment has trained you to ignore.
Use three observations instead of trying every object:
- Choose one stable landmark, such as a photograph group or piece of furniture.
- State what changed after the loop, including orientation rather than only presence.
- Reverse course at the first repeated threshold and verify that the next room is materially different.
If the reversed path produces no change in the launch build, inspect the current tutorial reminder and journal before assuming the preview solution is bugged. A different chapter may reuse the visual language without reusing the exact trigger.
Read Chatterer as a corridor test, not a damage race
The demonstrated Chatterer sequence repeatedly places him ahead of Aidan in a burst of electricity. The solution is to find the corridor where he does not teleport in front of the player. Each failed turn rules out one route. Note the interception, reverse quickly, and try another corridor rather than sprinting into the same apparition again.
The official PS5 description gives two escape tools: turn off the Flashlight with R3 and perform a quick 180-degree turn with Left Stick plus L3. Those are PS5 labels, not a promise for every platform. Their tactical meaning is portable: remove a revealing light when hiding is allowed, and use the dedicated reversal instead of dragging the camera through a slow arc while a Cenobite closes the distance.

Open optional locks when their reward repairs the route
Traditional locks sit beside the supernatural puzzles. The developer specifically describes lock-picking mechanisms and safe combinations, with clues such as a diagram on a desk. Rewards can include crafting resources, ammunition, upgrades, or a new weapon. That makes the lock valuable when it addresses a named shortage, not simply because it exists.
Before forcing progress, compare the blocked room with the inventory. Low ammunition, no emergency heal, or a badly matched weapon justifies searching the nearby desk and walls for the safe clue. A healthy, supplied Aidan facing a clear mandatory gate may be better served by marking the lock on the Map or Journal and returning later. The official demonstration compares inventory management to Resident Evil; leave room for the reward before solving the container.
The PS5 store lists adjustable difficulty, tutorial reminders, pausing, and manual saving. Use a manual save, where the current build permits one, as an experiment boundary before a costly gate or configuration test. That listing does not define slot count, combat restrictions, or identical PC and Xbox behavior, so verify the save readback instead of assuming that opening the menu created one.
Watch the box rule, then the uncut preview encounter
The first video is PlayStation’s 91-second Genesis Configuration trailer from May 20, 2026. Its identity, channel, date, and duration were checked against the public player and Steam’s official announcement. It is the concise visual reference for transforming routes, gathering Suffering, and using Telekinesis, Pyrokinesis, and Hell Chains.
The second video is IGN’s 14 Minutes Exclusive Hellraiser: Revival Gameplay, uploaded August 10, 2026. The supplied local file is 866.871 seconds at 854×480, matching the public 867-second player record. It was checked across the full duration for the courtyard, Zora shop, inventory tabs, Bolt Cutters, recovery prompts, Bruno fight, and return to the hub. Use it as a preview-build action sample, not a promise of final prices or encounter balance.
The October build gets the final word
Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival is Steam App 1551980, developed and published by Saber Interactive, and scheduled for October 8, 2026 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. The article remains deliberately narrower than a walkthrough: it does not claim a complete gate order, every Genesis shape, final power values, all bosses, collectibles, endings, or achievements.
At launch, compare the live tutorial, control menu, journal, inventory labels, box feedback, and save confirmation with this preview method. If a power’s cost, an item location, or a corridor trigger changes, keep the verified relationship and discard the old number: executions fund Suffering, the chosen power needs a valid target or environmental anchor, puzzle objects must match their gate, and a changed world must be read before Aidan commits to it.
