To reach your first Water Dragon in Dragon Shelter, repair Grandpa’s bed, take the four opening requests in town, grow Leah’s wheat, and build the kitchen Wilhelm supplies. The cooking task then leads from the bubbling pond to a dragon you can feed, befriend with the flute, and bring back to the townspeople. The order of the first recipes differs between the launch week walkthrough and the recorded game: one starts with bread, while the other starts with jam. Follow the quest title on your screen at that point; both routes are explained below.
Repair the bed and find the road into town
After character creation, collect three berries from the tall grass with red fruit and eat one when the opening objective asks for it. Walk north to Grandpa’s house and open the chest inside. Take the axe and hammer before trying to fix anything. The bed is broken, and you need it to end the day and restore the energy shown by the yellow bar. Outside, cut one of the cherry blossom trees for wood, return to the bedroom, and repair the bed. Sleep when the repair is complete. If you use all your energy clearing the property before doing this, the basic overnight recovery point is still unavailable.

The pond beside the farm is bubbling, but the first trip is to Mayor Augustine. With no map yet, retrace the path used in the arrival scene until it takes you into town. Augustine stands to the left as you enter. Ask about the pond; he cannot identify what is under the water and sends you to meet the other residents. That conversation changes the task from investigating the pond to helping the town. You will return to the water later, after the kitchen work draws out its occupant.

Take every resident’s request before gathering materials
Speak to Merchant Rufus, Blacksmith Hugh, Gardener Leah, and Carpenter Wilhelm. Their requests supply the next tools, crops, and construction unlock. Starting all four before returning to the farm lets you gather wood for more than one errand. After each delivery or repair, speak to that resident again. The request may still be open until you have that second conversation.
Rufus asks you to sell him five berries. Pick them around Grandpa’s garden, return to his shop, sell them, and buy the shovel for 25 coins. Speak to Rufus once more to finish his request. The shovel matters immediately because Leah’s seeds need dug beds. Keep later berries instead of selling every bush bare; the kitchen chain and the dragon both use them.
Hugh wants six sticks and four logs. Small branches give sticks; trees supply logs when cut with the axe. Bring the requested stacks back to the blacksmith and finish the conversation that unlocks his crafting services. Wilhelm’s separate cart job needs four logs. Repair the cart at his work area, then return to Wilhelm so his request registers as done. If you arrive with four logs and Hugh or Wilhelm still shows an unfinished objective, check whether the logs were spent on the other task or whether you have yet to speak to that resident after the repair.

Grow Leah’s wheat while the town jobs are moving
Leah gives you four wheat seeds. Once Rufus has sold you the shovel, dig four beds near the house, plant a seed in each, and water them with the watering can. The wheat takes two days in the prologue route. Sleep and water the beds on the following day; sparkles over the mature plants mark the harvest. Bring the wheat back to Leah and speak to her to complete the request. Keep the wheat for the kitchen. If your first recipe is bread, you will need it there.
Place the beds near the house while leaving the berry bushes intact. Rufus buys their fruit, and the kitchen later needs berries for jam or pie. Memory Nut bushes are rarer and only grow on the farm, so leave those standing too when you make space for the kitchen. Once the beds are watered and the next task must wait until morning, sleep rather than spend the rest of your energy cutting down plants you still need.
Place Wilhelm’s kitchen, then read the first recipe objective
Once all four residents have been helped, return to Augustine. He sends you back to Wilhelm for the kitchen starter set. Take the foundation from Wilhelm, then speak to the mayor for the initial recipe. At the farm, clear enough ground for the foundation and place it. Keep the berry and Memory Nut bushes outside its footprint. The kitchen has separate baskets, preparation stations, and an oven. Put the requested supplies into the baskets before working through the recipe.
If your task asks for bread, put wheat and logs into the kitchen baskets. Grind the wheat into flour, add water, work the dough on the table, and move it to the bakery. Put a log into the oven and light it with the matches. When baking finishes, remove the loaf, set it on the table, and take the finished bread from storage for Augustine. Delivering the loaf leads to Rufus’s request for jam. Wilhelm provides the jars after you clear the debris in the south of town with the pickaxe and bring him the logs he asks for. Collect the items he deposits in his chest before returning to the kitchen.
For jam, crush berries for juice, combine the berry preparation with sugar and water in the cauldron, and fuel the stove with wood. Once it has cooked, put the jam into a jar and take the completed item to the person named by the active quest. If a station will not accept an ingredient, check the kitchen basket and the current order before trying the next station; flour, raw berries, and a finished jar are different items. The launch week bread route sends you to the mayor first and then moves to Rufus’s jam request.
If the quest panel instead reads The First Jam immediately after the foundation is ready, follow that objective first. In the recorded route, the mayor gives the jam recipe; the kitchen setup asks for wheat and firewood in baskets, and the finished jam goes back to Augustine. Rufus then needs a berry pie. Return to Wilhelm for the extra oven equipment. At the expanded kitchen, crush the berries and mill the wheat separately, combine the filling and dough on a plate, then bake the assembled pie. Baking the dough alone produces bread and leaves the berry pie request unfinished. This route brings out the Water Dragon after the pie is made.

Feed the dragon at the pond and use the flute
The blue creature appears around the cooking area and heads toward the bubbling pond. Follow it. In the bread then jam route, pet it, offer berries, make another jar of jam, and give it the prepared food. Equip the flute when the friendship task calls for it. In the recorded jam then pie route, it first eats jam near the kitchen, then runs to the pond. Offer berries there, make another berry pie, and use the flute when the friendship objective appears. The quest tells you which food to cook again; follow that item name before returning to the kitchen with your new companion.

Prepare the next food order with the dragon helping at the kitchen stations, then deliver it to Rufus. In the recorded pie route, that delivery persuades Rufus to put nails back on sale. Return to Augustine after Rufus agrees. If the dragon seems to vanish between the pond and the kitchen, use its portrait and the flute command, then check the current friendship objective. You still need to complete the shared cooking task even if the dragon is already following you.

Introduce the Water Dragon around town
Augustine asks you to show the Water Dragon to the residents. Bring it with you rather than just talking to each person alone. Hugh gives you a practical demonstration: equip the flute and target the barrel at the forge so the Water Dragon fills it. When that request is complete, his shop offers improved stone tools. Rufus asks you to keep the dragon fed and cared for. Open the dragon portrait to see its needs and preferred food, cook a suitable meal, feed it, and use the care interaction. A fed, content dragon can produce Joy, which is a restorative item for dragons rather than a product to sell.
Wilhelm’s request is play equipment. Ask him to make a trampoline, gather the wood, branches, and ore shown in his workshop recipe, then take the finished item from his storage after it is made. Place it back at the farm where the dragon can reach it; the dragon’s use of the trampoline advances his introduction. Copper ore for this early construction can be mined near the house after you have the stronger pickaxe. If Wilhelm’s objective remains open, check the workshop queue and collection chest before gathering a second set of materials.

Leah follows with Water Flower seeds. Dig four beds and use the flute to have the Water Dragon prepare the plots for water crops. Plant the four seeds, then let the dragon water them. The flowers take two days in the prologue walkthrough. Once they bloom, feed one to the dragon and take the remaining flowers to Leah. Speak to Augustine after the residents have met your companion. In the recorded route, his next objective is to earn the townspeople’s trust by bringing them food.

Keep the first farm working after the introductions
From here, town progress comes through resident quests and the order board. Those orders give money and strengthen relationships; later relationship steps open further requests, equipment, residents, and dragons. Choose an order you can fill with the crops and kitchen stations you already have, then use spare energy to water and gather for the next one. Giving a resident more than one gift in a day does not increase the daily relationship reward again, so keep extra food for orders or your dragon instead of spending it all on repeat gifts.
The Water Dragon has separate hunger, mood, energy, and Element Force needs. When it is hungry enough to lie down, feed it cooked food before assigning another job. It can rest after its energy is spent; Element Force fuels its water work and is restored by ending the day, Joy, or appropriate elemental food such as a Water Flower. Look at the portrait before asking it to water a field: a tired or unfed dragon cannot carry the whole farm. Once the essential beds are treated, cooking is another productive job it can handle at the kitchen.
Start with the four beds Leah needs and add more when the dragon can maintain them alongside cooking and town errands. If your own energy reaches zero, tools stop working; food or sleep restores it. In the launch version, the clock stops at 23:00 rather than forcing you to pass out. You can finish a nearby kitchen job before bed, but chopping, digging, and other tool work still stop when the energy bar runs dry.
